There was no change in the overall pattern of PGCET 2014 when compared to that of PGCET 2012. In 2013, PGCET MBA was not conducted and students were admitted on the basis of CMAT scores. In the PGCET 2014 MBA test paper, 100 questions were grouped into 4 sections A,B,C and D, with each section having 25 questions. The surprising element is the overlap of questions in the sections C and D i.e. Mathematical and Reasoning sections. Out of 50 questions in these two sections together, around 38 questions are on Mathematics.
Test of Proficiency in English Language (Section A):
The English section had 25 questions. Seventeen of these twenty five questions are based on vocabulary clearly indicating that the focus in the English section of this paper is on vocab.
There are five questions on Synonyms, five on Antonyms and seven questions are based on Proverbs/Idioms. Out of the five synonym based questions three are pretty simple and two are moderately difficult. Four out of five questions on Antonyms can be categorized as moderately difficult, while one was fairly simple. The remaining seven questions based on vocabulary are based on idioms/proverbs which are slightly tough; it should not be difficult for a reasonably well prepared student to arrive at the correct answers for these questions.
The paper had four questions on Sentence Completion. The candidate has to fill the blanks with the correct option, thereby making the sentence meaningfully complete. A student with a knowledge of Grammar and its usage would not find it difficult to answer these questions. (Question nos: 11 to 15 were probably intended to be on sentence completion, but there was one question which asked the expansion for the word 'Sensex', this question is not based on English.) The last three questions were based on functional grammar and were reasonably simple.
On the whole the English section can be called moderately difficult for a student with an average preparation. It calls for sound knowledge of Grammar and Vocabulary and a well prepared student would easily come up with a reasonably good score in this paper.

General Knowledge (Section B) :
More than fifteen questions in this section were from Economics, Science and Technology and History. Two questions each were given on Current Affairs and Polity. An average student can easily answer atleast 16 questions. The level of difficulty of questions in this section varies from easy to difficult. However, more than half of the questions were easy. The topic wise break-up of the questions is given below:

Reasoning (Section C) : Very surprisingly , seventeen questions of the twenty questions in this section were from Arithmetic. Out of the eight questions given three were on 'Odd Man Out' and five questions were based on a puzzle(Comparisons); the remaining questions are on Data Interpretation and Arithmetic. The puzzle is of moderate difficulty level and the remaining questions are easy to moderate. For question no.70, the answer has to be Rs,111.60; it is not given in any choice.

Test of Mathematical Skills(Section D): In this section a puzzle( Distribution) which pertains to Reasoning section was given. The puzzle is easy to solve. Ten questions on Data Interpretation were given. There were five questions on 'Ratio and Proportion', which is on the higher side. Except one question which was difficult, the remaining questions were equally distributed between easy and moderate difficulty levels. The answers for question no.100 must be 17.65%, but it is not given in any choice.
