636 teams of two participants each competed in the Cochin City Finals of Aqua Regia – The Science Quiz. These 1272 students were selected from 7152 students who competed in the School Level Preliminary Rounds from various schools in Cochin.

Although the reporting time was mentioned as 09:00 am, the venue – Fine Arts Hall, Cochin, was packed to capacity 08:50 itself.

The event started with the City Preliminary round which consisted of 25 audio visual questions. Teams were given an answer template to record their responses. At the end of the preliminary round, the answer sheets were taken into the Green Room for evaluation and the Quiz Master started discussing the answers of the preliminary rounds. There was no single question that went unanswered. Of course, the collective knowledge of the gathering was something to be showcased. After this the Quiz Master, Mr. Ajay Antony, left the participants with an audience question that would eventually fetch a student an Apple iPod. Apart from this, there were two more exclusive audience questions that would fetch the winners two Titan Fast Track Watches.

The participation form the students was tremendous. The voice levels in the auditorium was so high that it could be heard 100 meters outside. The sponsor of the Event, Veegaland Amusement Park presented lots of prizes like footballs, T shirts, Caps etc to the audience.

Earlier in the day, Mr. Kochuseph Chittilappally, Managing Director of Veegaland inaugurated the event in the presence of Mr. Pramod Kumar, Director.T.I.M.E.

At exactly 12:00 noon, the students gathered back in the auditorium and the quiz Master announced the results – the top 6 teams who would now compete for the top honours in the Cochin City Finals. After 90 minutes of hard quizzing, the final standing of the top 6 teams on stage was as follows. It was a coup of sorts in the Cochin City Finals when a team from the suburb, Aluva beat the more famous schools to win the first position.

Ms. Sreelekha IPS, Inspector General of Police was the Chief Guest during the Prize Distribution function.

The top two position winners got the opportunity to represent Cochin in the Regional Finals that was conducted immediately after the Cochin City Finals
