Cochin City Regional Finals

The first Regional Finals of Aqua Regia – The Science Quiz 2007 was conducted in Cochin on the 17th October 2007. The winners of the City Finals of Trivandrum, Cochin, Kollam and Kozhikode competed in this heavily competed event. The winning team would represent Cochin Region in the National Finals in Hyderabad on 3rd December 2007.

There were two teams from Cochin and Kozhikode and one team each from Trivandrum and Kollam. The competition was much more intense at the Regional Finals as each team was now very familiar with the format of the quiz and had come prepared with some strategies to maximize their points. Aggressive bidding and counter-bidding was witnessed in the first three rounds. In addition to the chance to represent Cochin in the National Finals, the prizes on offer – worth Rs. 50,000/ - also made the occasion worthwhile for severe competition. The prizes included video iPods, iPods, Mobile Phones, Wrist Watches, Travel Bags and Bicycles.

Bhavans Varuna Vidyalaya had lost the title of Cochin City Winners to Jyothi Nivas, Aluva. But they more than made up for that by wining the Regional Finals with a margin of 14 points.

St. Thomas Trivandrum and Navajyothi, Kozhikode was tied for the third position after the finals. Three rounds of tie-breakers could not diffuse the tie as both teams were too overwhelmed by the occasion to hit the buzzer. So the Quiz Master Mr. Ajay Antony had to resort the final option – a coin toss. St. Thomas called correctly secured the third position.

Ms. Sreelekha IPS, Inspector General of Police was the Chief Guest for the Closing Ceremony and she distributed the prizes sponsored by Veegaland and T.I.M.E. Mr. Pramod Kumar, Director, T.I.M.E. was also present.
