Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) like IOCL, NTPC, BHEL, Coal India, Power Grid, SAIl, GAIL, HAL etc are one of the most
sough after companies in India. Attractive pay scale, high cadre, quality of work, job security are some of the factors
that make a PSU job almost irresistible. Hence, there are a lot of students and working professionals who eagerly wait
for PSU job notifications every year.
For engineers, these PSUs come up with recruitment notifications every year, for the posts of
Exceutive Trainees/ Graduate Trainees/ Management Trainees etc. As a part of the selection process,
each PSU used to have its own selection exam comprising of subject questions and aptitude.
With the introduction of Aptitude in GATE from 2010, the syllabus as well as the target audience
for PSU exams have become almost similar to GATE. Hence, the PSUs are slowly phasing away their selection exams,
and substituting it with GATE score as the merit criterion.
GATE 2011 score was used by IOCL for recruitment. Powergrid, NTPC, BHEL and IOCL have announced that GATE 2012 score will
be used for merit listing of candidates during 2012 recruitment. This has resulted in a huge surge in the number of GATE applicants.
