IIM Indore Admission Criteria (2013-15)

Selection Procedure for admission to PGP 2013-15 Batch

1. Eligibility conditions for CAT 2012 Applicants

The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA [45% in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Differently Abled (DA)categories], awarded by any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.

The percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in the bachelor’s degree would be calculated based on the practice followed by the university/institution from where the candidate has obtained the degree. In case the candidates are awarded grades/CGPA instead of marks, the conversion of grades/CGPA to percentage of marks would be based on the procedure certified by the university/ institution from where they have obtained the bachelor's degree. In case the university/ institution does not have any scheme for converting CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by dividing the candidate’s CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the result with 100.

Candidates appearing for the final year of bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply. IIMs may verify eligibility at various stages of the selection process, the details of which are provided at Selection Process of IIMs.

2. Selection Process

Candidates seeking admission to the two-year PGP of IIM Indore have to appear in the Common Admission Test [CAT] as described in the CAT advertisement, which has been published in leading news papers on 22 July 2012. CAT 2012 shall be conducted during October 11 – November 6, 2012. Candidates can purchase the CAT 2012 vouchers from the nearest designated Axis Bank branch and register themselves on the www.catiim.in website during the period 30 July – 17 September, 2012. While registering for CAT 2012, candidates can apply to IIM Indore by selecting the option available in the online registration and there is no additional cost for the same.

Note: Any candidate who is interested in applying for IIM Indore needs to exercise their option to apply while registering for CAT 2012. Only those candidates who will be applying for IIM Indore’s PGP and satisfying the minimum eligibility conditions (given in Table 1) will be considered for admission process at IIM Indore

IIM Indore will adopt two stages for the process of shortlisting for Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI). The details are given below:

Stage 1: Initial Screening

Those candidates who apply for two-year PGP at IIM Indore and satisfying the following sectional minimum percentile and overall percentile scores in CAT 2012 (given in Table 1) will be considered for further shortlisting process. This is the first step of shortlisting meant to arrive at a consideration pool.

Table 1: CAT 2012 Sectional and Overall Percentile Cutoffs
Category Section 1 Section 2 Overall
General 85.00 85.00 90
NC-OBC 75.00 75.00 80
SC, ST, PWD 50.00 50.00 55

Note: The above cut-offs are tentative and IIM Indore can modify, if required, at the time of shortlisting.

Stage 2: Final Short list for WAT and PI

The candidates satisfying the minimum eligibility criteria mentioned in Table 1 will be considered for further shortlisting for WAT and PI. A merit list of candidates will be prepared, category-wise, based on the academic performance which includes performances in SSC (Class X), HSC (Class XII) and BD (Bachelors Degree). Composite Score (CS) will be calculated for each candidate which will be the sum of the weighted academic performances as mentioned in Table 2.

Table 2: Weightages used for calculating CS
Academic Performance Weightages
10th Standard / SSC 35.00%
12th Standard / HSC 35.00%
Bachelors’ Degree (BD) 30.00%

Composite Score (100%) = SSC (35%) + HSC (35%) + Bachelor’s Degree (30%).

Note: A normalization scheme will be used to normalize the academic scores across Boards, Universities and Institutions prevalent.

As per the recommendations of admissions committee, category-wise number of candidates to be shortlisted for WAT and PI will be in 1:10 ratio as given in Table 3.

Table 3: Category-wise intake versus shortlisted
Category Planned Intake To be Shortlisted
General 213 2130
NCOBC 122 1220
SC 68 680
ST 34 340
PWD/DA 14 140
TOTAL 451 4510

Note: In the case wherein the number of candidates available itself is less than the proposed ten times to intake then all the candidates who are satisfying the minimum CAT percentiles (as given in Table 1) will be short listed for WAT and PI.

Candidates short-listed for written ability test and/or interview will be intimated by the end of January 2013. Individual regret letters will not be sent to applicants who are not called for written ability test and interview. IIM Indore conducts admission interviews in Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Indore, Kolkata, Mumbai, and New Delhi only.

However, IIM Indore reserves the right to change the centers at any time if the situation so warrants.

Final Selection: A merit list of candidates who have attended WAT and PI will be prepared based on the following criteria and admission offers will be made considering reservation norms. Final Composite Score (FCS) will be calculated for each candidate which will be the sum of the weighted performances in academics, personal interview and written ability test as mentioned in Table 4.

Table 4: Weightages used for calculating FCS
Academic Performance Weightages
10th Standard / SSC 17.00%
12th Standard / HSC 17.00%
Bachelors’ Degree (BD) 16.00%
Personal Interview (PI) 35.00%
Written Ability Test (WAT) 15.00%

Final Composite Score (FCS): SSC (17%) + HSC (17%) + BD (16%) + PI (35%) + WAT (15%)
