kranthi: IT IS NOT YET CLEAR WHETHER It is computrer based or computer adaptive we have to wait till iims come up with further notification.however the basic preparation will be more or less same from your side except the fact that u will be taking sufficient number of on line tests provided by us.

krish: if 3 lakh guys are gonna take the exam in a span of 10 days, it would mean 30,000 a day. But, ETS has only 15 testing centres in india and none of them has a capacity of more than 100 systems. how is this gonna happen???

sai: CAT will not repeat Qs from the database as it will be advantageous for students taking the CAT test in the latter part of the 10 day window.

sai: 1. AIMCATs will begin in the last week of May for all full course students of TIME 2. It will be a mix of Paper-pencil and Online tests. With a major focus on Online testing 3. It looks unlikely that the IIMs will go with an Adaptive test this year but knowing the IIMs a surprise on this front is not ruled out

neelam: what is the best way to practice to save time
kranthi: get good grip on fundamentals and practice with time limit .once ur basics are in place efficiency will follow automatically.

manju: i got 94.6percentile in cat 2008 but i hadn't applied for any other colleges thinking that i can make into iim's this year but i am losing confidence on cat 2009.is there going to be lot of difference in test pattern and scoring methodology?
kranthi: do not worry your capabilities can be reflected in this format also.

sai: Yes in the first attempt.....Got 99.69%ile...Yes I was a T.I.M.E. student and took the AIMCATs very seriously.

catcracker: Only for regular students in the last week of may? What about old timers who want to take only AIMCATs? :)

ajay: right now am doing my b.e 3rd year and i have avery low aggregate below 65% ..so would tis percentage reflects in admission process...
kranthi: it is not very low u can always come with a good performance in the written to compensate that.

sai: Looks to be the case from the notification. The IIMs would like to use this extra time to set their logistics and fine tune plans

catcracker: doesn't taking cat online bring in the luck factor more? especially if it's adaptive, isn't the classification of a question as easy or difficult subjectivE?
sai: You seem to have made up your mind that CAT2009 will be an ADAPTIVE test!! assuming that it is adaptive even then there is no element of luck as experts will determine whether a Qs is difficukt or not and they will be consistent in their assessment.

naren: need any preparation change for CAT online ?
kranthi: take suffiecint number of online tests provided by t.i.m.e.

sushma: Hi Sir, I have joined TIME year last year. CAT 2008 was not good for me. I thought of joining AIMCATs only as because of my ofc i can not join regular classes.but now, CAT 2009 has become online and i am getting confuse whether only AIMCATs will be beneficial or i have to join classes.
sai: Sushma if you have a weakness in any area and have scored less than 85%ile then you need to join a full course rather than the AIMCAT series alone.

neelam: should i practice on line from the very starting
kranthi: as and when we provide u with those.try reading passages online.

geek: wht are likely chnages in the test bcos of this shift - Can the questions come down? Wht abt possibility of pattern change in DI and RC
sai: Too early to speculate. Let us wait for the bulletin and see what changeswill be wrought in the test pattern. In any case you need to be prepared for all eventualities. We will prepare our students for all possibilities. i hope you are one of our students!!

cataspirant: sir i got 99.4 in cat 08 and still missed out..i really want to get into an iim this time, and i have really been taken aback by this announcement..how can percentiles be calculated with scores people make in so many different tests? would it still be fair to all?
kranthi: there are many statistical tools and methods do not worry with adequate preparation you can better ur performance.

manju: how is it possible to set the same difficulty level question papers for all the test days? does it really so(same difficulty level for all)?
sai: Please give some credit to the profs at the IIMs. They will try and ensure that it is fair for every one. Though there are bound to be challenges in this as well.

sai: Generally as soon as you mark the answer in the e-OMR the answer gets saved. Wait for the notification from the IIMs to know the exact details of how the online test is going to look like.
