pcr: Hi ! If you are reasonably well prepared - take heart! this is not known to be a difficult paper, except for the odd question. Overall, try and attempt around 32 to 35 questions, and if, on looking at the RCs, you feel confident, try 10 ques or more. Stay focussede. Don't get bogged down on any one question - keep moving! all the best

sai: It is not exhaustive but it along with the IRMA, IIFT and SNAP GK papers, magazine and the classroom handouts would go a long way in clearing the cut-offs. Anyone with a good reading habit of a daily newspaper will do well in this section.

irma: liba or mica
sai: MICA

irma: sir please answer...sir is iift similiar to the tpb's supplied or a bit tougher
sai: IIFT is similar to IIFT OMETs given

itsme: 3. Is there any chance that more than 100 qns are expected in CAT 2009 like CAT 2004 and all ?.
sai: Not possible

itsme: 5. My 10th ,12th and BE scores are 81 , 85 and 76 percentages .....Keeping IIMA's general criterian in mind, and if i score 99 percentile IN CAT 2009 ,How are my chanCes of getting IIMA, GDPI call?.
sai: Good chances

itsme: 6. what is the ideal duration to solve each ,a DI set and a RC ,. ?...iam spending around 15 minutes each...pls suggest me some tips to solver quicker.
pcr: For RCs, 15 minutes may be a bit too long. If you can save 3 or 4 mins that would be great. In your first read, focus on thought-flow, organisation, central idea, style and tone. Depending on the questions, come back to bits that need closer examination. Don't look only at what sentences mean, understand what they DO in the theme. all the best

itsme: 7. if a section is very easy , is it possible that its cut off wud be 50 or plus %,..of max marks ?.
sai: YEs. Quite possible

ilu: sir how to go abt in dis last hour sir....n how to appproach the questions in the exam

sai: Same level as IRMA of previous years

phoenix: what shud be the ideal num of attempts to clear sectional and over all cutoffs in IRMA
sai: Answered

ams: As irma people have said they will ask 200 ques to be solved in 2 hrs, and also have explained no of ques for each section, so is their any chance for us to see some surprises tomorrow?
sai: No surprise in pattern but expect surprises in content.

lalu: what to do for the passage in english section in irma paper
pcr: If you're referring to RC - In your first read, focus on thought-flow, organisation, central idea, style and tone. Depending on the questions, come back to bits that need closer examination. Don't look only at what sentences mean, understand what they DO in the theme. all the best

ams: how many students r called for gd/pi? How many have filled form this yr fo irma?
sai: Around 8:1 ratio with around 20K applicants

metleymotley: Hi sir, I am doing this yrs aimcats, mock cats, crts , original cat papers, 50% of test a days and last yrs aim cats also.Which of the above papers should I revise type wise (considering only one week for revision? )
sai: AIMCATs, Original CAT papers, and last years AIMCATs

nupur: how many correct questions are required to be attempted to xpect a call from irma in social issues?? is there cut off in this paper too??
sai: Last year cutoff was 15 marks in this section.

metleymotley: Can you tell me the approach for para completion question? what techniques do u use? i tend to go by instinct and it is wrong 50% of the times.
pcr: Basically, a paragraph is a set of sentences which, together, express an idea or an idea-set. While there are the occasional exceptions, paragraph structure usually follows a certain thought pattern, depending on content and purpose. Content is not too difficult to determine - ask yourself "what is it the author is speaking of in the para, what is the situation being presented?" To determine purpose ask yourself "what is the author's objective in presenting this info or situation?" With this recognition, identifying the opening sentence (sometimes the closing sentence, sometimes the clear link between 2 sentences) becomes possible. Using these and a combination of recognition of thought flow, recognition of grammatical connectives used (pronouns, relative pronouns, demonstrative adjectives, conjunctions, prepositions) and simultaneous evaluation of choices for elimination, you should be able to arrive at the correct formation of the paragraph.

rohtang: gd evening sir,can you suggest me what can be done now for issues of social concern question and how much time should i spend on it in real paper???
sai: Nothing much. Go through the Who's Who uploaded on the TIME website and the IRMA papers. Spend around 15 min on this section.

metleymotley: I try to attempt all questions in verbal and with a 60% accuracy I get 50% of the total marks, which gets me more than 95%le in verbal alone.. Do the IIMs look at accuracy? With respect to verbal, Will I be at a disadvantage cause the accuracy is only 60% although I get a 95%le +
pcr: It's the percentile you're placed at that matters

ams: in this case hw mch guesses sud i do? ----Sir,i tried the omet papers of TIME for irma, i cud do nearly 15 ques in 1 test papaer and 18 in the other. As this is only near cut-offs, if tommorrow i m able to attempt only 12-13 ques, should i go for some blind guesses? Help me here.
pcr: intelligent guesses, yes, but not BLIND ones please. Some careful reading and thought should help you determine whether you want to try guessing or not. Don't forget the negative marks
