pcr: You need to start some prep now, along with your work for the exams. Hopefully, you've been doing some newspaper reading for RC preparation, and are reasonably uptodate with current affairs. If not, please spend time on newspapers, journals (including back-numbers), and the internet now. Review key events (national and international) during the year. Arrive at the issues that these events are representative of. Focus on these issues, in terms of information gathering, thinking and analysis, and opinion forming. Pay particular attention to the more recent happenings and issues. This is equally true for GD and for PI.

saikumar: Cannot be predicted

pawan: Is 80 attempts in JMET with 90% accuracy sufficient to get a call from IIT-B. Provided last year difficulty level.

rahulkhanna: What should be the strategy for preparing for GDPI for CAT and for XAT colleges? Do they need to be different?
krishnakumar: Broadly, the same. There are some subtle differences in the approach/level of knowledge required in the case of some institutes. For example, IIFT GD requires well rounded knowledge in areas relating to business and economy

bandhu: sir plz tell about national management school chennai bcoz i vl get atmost 80 in cat,so is it worth joining nms as fee is 10 lakh my academic is gud btech 80%
pcr: it's pretty clear that they have put money and effort into the place and that they've got together impressive names on their board and visiting faculty. But predictions are difficult. krishnakumar: Concentrate on other exams now.

nitin jain: i attempted 26 que. in cat. will i get any iim call?
saikumar: Not possible

mad21: Sir, even if i clear cutoffs of various colleges, i am seriously having a phobia of speaking english in public or say i am a little weak in speaking english. what to do to improve it.
krishnakumar: The best way is to practice. How do babies learn to speak (before going to play school)? They pick up words and start using it. The issue is not that you cannot speak good Engish but that 'you think that' you cannot speak good English. Start using the language and things will improve drastically

anand: what would be the expected cutoff 4 maths(jmet)?

krishnakumar: For every one

sunil: be prepared to answer questions on why your percentage was low. Also because your marks are low, you have to work extra hard on other aspects

moron: Sir, can you please suggest a few good sites, books and magazines for IIFT Essay writing as well as GDPI??
pcr: check the earlier transcript for suggestions on what to do. include the international business pages of the financial newspapers and journals in your reading. Remember that the time-tested form for essays (intro-body-conclusion) still works. The thing is to display good reasoning and analysis, even if your language remains simple

krishnakumar: You should apply to other institutes. Atleast 5-6 under CAT

hello: What is the strategy to be opted for JMET...i am weak at english..

rick: sir on the site they have posted something callled satastical mthods that means clearing no more re-tests...is it so???

jig: Sir still time cant put up the cat09 paper when they have completed all the slots?
sunil: NO

tomhanks: Candidates have reported through various channels the nature of disruptions faced that include pressing of End button prematurely, malfunctioning of computer on which the test was taken by the candidate, missing graphs & charts, etc. We have put in place a process to identify and assess the impact of various types of disruptions noticed and reported during the entire testing period; these are being addressed to ensure fairness in testing.HOW WILL THEY RESOLVE THESE ISSUES?
krishnakumar: Yiur guess is as good as mine. Some news should come through in the next couple of days

saikumar: 95+

arjit: looks lik everyone has rockked cat with min 45 quests!god know wher i stand with 35!
kranthi: focus on doing well in the rest of exams u have applied.

tomhanks: Statistical methods are commonly used to equate difficulty levels across the test papers.....WHAT IS THIS EXACTLY??
saikumar: This is a process called normalisation which could be used to equate the difficulty levels of tests across slots and then based on that either mark up or mark down the score that one gets. It makes the assumption that the test was FAIR which in this case is not true hence the validity of the statistical methods is quite suspect.

blabber: Sir IITS are very good , but many be not as charismatic as lets say NITIE and other top insti ,am i rite?
saikumar: The IITs are very good instis and they have their own charm just like NITIE or some other instis

arjit: sir wat the points to b kept in mind while writing sop's.do they actually read it?
krishnakumar: SOPs are an integral part of the selection process and are extremely important. A poorly/casually written SOP might harm your candidature. Clearly state career goals, how an MBA will help you achieve these goals and the reasons for you to choose that particular institute for your MBA

jai: how good is srcc gbo???

ndc9e029: sir hows ICFAI GURGAON WE SHOULD GO FOR IT OR NOT
krishnakumar: Depends on what level of institutes you are targeting

lavina: Which colleges ask for SOP? Does MDI,IMT,NITIE,SPJain ask for SOP? Or XLRI and XIMB?
krishnakumar: You seem to be bothered about writing SOPs. Apply to institutes which appeal to you. If they ask for an SOP, go ahead.

rink: wats d cutoff for siom??
kranthi: close to 50 last year.

sarayu: sir does doing operations management require prior work experience??? bcoz it deals with industrial set up so when getting finally placed after mba would noexperienced candidates b at disadvantage

krishnakumar: No

tomhanks: avg pkg of IIFM-BHOPAL?
saikumar: Around 5-6 lacs

lavina: Sir i have applied to the colleges i mentioned just now,so was just checking if they ask for SOP i can go ahead and prepare and keep in advance.
krishnakumar: The questions could vary from institute to institute. So, no need to keep SOPs ready in advance

balu: what is SOP?
krishnakumar: Statement of Purpose. have replied to similar query in detail. Pls check transcripts

bz: Sir what would you suggest if I start preparing for GD/PI from now onwards

debapriya: sir can u tell me how much importance iim s give to academic record for selecting for gdpi. i have 83% in 12th and 78% in graduation, can i expect a call from top iim s,say IIm B, with a good enough percentile?
krishnakumar: In CAT 2008, some of the IIMs like B and L gave lot of weightage to accads. IIM A did not consider degree marks. IIM C did not consider accads for giving calls.

tomhanks: IMT or NITIE?
krishnakumar: NITIE

gov: Sir, one of the mock gd's conducted recently at TIME turned into a free for all...Can we expect something similar in the real GD's.I have heard that North Indians can be particularly aggressive(no offence..), and if you try to play civil and nice, the whole thing will be over before u can utter a word...
pcr: aggression exists - everywhere, NSEW. What you need to remember is that there are evaluators who are marking people and so, in such situations, you don't get aggressive - you get smart. Watch for openings, be quick to take them, and MAKE SENSE with what you're saying. That way the participants and evaluators will listen, and your chances of getting again, when you have something to say, are better.

ndc9e029: WHAT is the level of ICFAI GURGAON ITS GOOD OR NOT
krishnakumar: had answeered that. Pls stop spaming

blabber: SIIB is 2nd best in international business after IIFT , My questio is is there a disjoint between a normal pgdm course and international business , or can one get a job profile of our choice as in normal pgdm?

balu: sir how is sitm?and placements?
kranthi: good.

jivu: what should be the right time for starting gd pi preparation for cat as my english is weak and i have hesitation in speaking english?
pcr: Start now. Do relevant reading everyday. do not worry too much about English level. Simple English is fine - you can control errors better that way. Analyse what you read and consider the reasons for your views. If you can express these thoughts reasonably clearly, you'd be fine in GDs, PIs and essays!

wall: plzzz reply.I have posted ny question long back.Few others have got two to three replies.I m still waiting for one.But still Thank you as Transcripts have been useful
krishnakumar: what was yr qn? Lost it in the maze of qns

krishnakumar: If you have appled to NITIE and MDI, you must bne aiming for top B schools. Not sure whether you will be happy with SITM/SIOM. Most of the top B schools offer systems specialisation

dheeru: Sir a question on NMAT ? How is the exam when compared to cat? and is heavily biased in favour of work ex people?
kranthi: easier compared to cat.have not heard of any such biases.

doggie: what is the usual expected cutoffs for SP JAIN?!?!?!?
kranthi: 95 in anormal case.not lower than 85 in any case.

sai: how to start rigorous prep for gd
pcr: Hopefully, you've been doing some newspaper reading for RC preparation, and are reasonably uptodate with current affairs. Build perspective, ie. recognise strengths and limitations your views may have - as well as of possible views other than your own.

tomhanks: MDI or IIM-I?
krishnakumar: Will answer that after you get admissions to both

sai: hi sir, can i apply for IIT-B with cat score?
krishnakumar: No, only JMET

abc: CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME THE CUTOFF FOR IIT THIS YEAR , I WOULD BE RELLY THANKFUL, BECAUSE ACCORDING TO YOUR ANALYSIS I WOULD HAVE GO A CALL , MY SCORE MATHS-8,DI-12,GK-2.54,ENG-7.4 , OVERALL- 29.93
krishnakumar: Depends on the level of the paper.

iift call: TIME has been consistently failing in predicting cutoffs for exams accurately....eg.CAT08....iift09...etc...Dont you need to rethink your method of analysis and data assimilation?
saikumar: The CAT2009 prediction of TIME was the most accurate put up by institutes across the country. Even in IIFT2009 the cutoffs have not yet been given out by the institute. Our prediction was 28 for a call and the calls have come at 30 marks from the inputs we have received from the successful call getters.

sateesh: Sir how should we behave just before the [MOCK's OR Real ones]GD/PI sessions? Can I ask others, who already finished the GD/PI for further clarification or just sit quite and alone.
krishnakumar: You can freely interact with the others

sg: dere is news cumin dat major institutes may give jus 70 % to CAT n remang to profile? Dont you think most of the insti wud follow this approach from this year for GD n PI ?
krishnakumar: Check mandatory disclosure on web sites of B schools to get weightage for calls and selection instead of believing rumours

ravali: sir, what 2 read 4 GD,s? hw 2 prepare 4 PI's?
kranthi: answered already.

ankit: sir how to prepare for snap?? shall we revise the basics or practise papers??
krishnakumar: both

subhayu.nath: sir, for applying to great lakes, they want some recommendation letter. i have dont have any idea about this? Can u please tell me xactly what is required for this?
pcr: reco letters are what you get from profs at college, or from supervisors at work. These provide the writers opinions of you and of the promise that you show

mba: i have got work experience...ll my graduation play a part in my interview??..or its enough dat i concentrate on things related to my work exp

krishnakumar: Definitely

jivu: this year cat was totally unpredictable and because of this i have no idea about my score so on which basis we should fill colleges?

mba: best way to crack GD..any session available for AIMCAT series students at TIME???
pcr: yes, please check with the centre at your place.

sateesh: Sir I feel nervous, when I see others in GD. And in PI I feel like shivering before they ask the questions. What shall I do sir.
krishnakumar: Paractice speaking in front of a mirror, reading aloud and talking to close friends in English. Participate (not be an observer) in maximum number of GDs

ravali: when are gd&pi sessions starting in time?
krishnakumar: answered two similar qns. Pls check transcipts
