sai: The cutoffs keep changing from year to year and it does not make sense to look at the cutoffs of last year and predict for 2009. Just concentrate on GK/Business awareness and it should be fine.

sai: Read a word list and try to actively use those words in a sentence. This will help you retain the words you have learnt. Read a good quality newspaper and this will help increase both your Vocabulary and also your grammar.

sai: The 90 sectional tests will last till about September. You need to take all tests and analyse them to be able to get benefit out of it. The Mock CATs (MCs) and CRTs (CAT Replica tests) will also be provided online.

kk: practise, familiarity with various concepts and the application of short cuts (ie where and how to apply the short cuts)

sai: Work on your vocabulary and grammar to see the best and fastest increase in your scores. After this try to increase the breadth of your reading and read as many difficult passages/aerticles from areas like sociology, religion, philosopy, cultural studies, humanities etc. Once you are able to read such difficult passages your comfort level increases and so does your score.

cat aspirant: if i want about 99 % in cat, what % ile range should i aim for in the aimcats??
kranthi: over 95 atlaest.but we have enough cases of miracles happening every year with people getting 99 percentile in cat though they were nowhere near that figure inAIM CATS.while miracles do happen do not expect them to happen to you.consistency is a more reliable companion.

kk: Take the online Rc tests on yr student page. Use the link to Rc passages, given on the page and read two passages online, daily and summarise in yr mind

kk: Attempt them and look at yr hit ratio. If u get most of these qns correct, try to understand what logic works. If u get most of them wrong, then there is some problem in the way you think. Then, stop attempting such qns for a while and go back to prep mode

kk: You have to attempts qns from all the sections. So, start preparing on other sections also. 20 attempts with a 80 percent accuracy in CAT 2008 would have given you 60 marks which was close to 80 percentile

kk: Very true in theory but many students find RC a problem. RC is one area where all the answers are there in the passage itself. All you need is good skills in comprehension

jet: sir this has been my problem since last cat. The first DI set which i attempt however easy it might takes a lot of time. The time it takes is around 100% more than what i allot for it.Thus the second set which i attempt leaves out a less time for me, but this time i am able to solve in the alloted time(as the going get tougher, tougher get going). Thus even though i am comfartable with around 3 sets in the DI section most of the times(considering there are 5 sets). I end up solving just two.
sai: Solving 2-3 complete DI sets in most cases is enough to clear the cutoffs in the toughest of CAT papers. However be a little more disciplined and ensure that yuou have a cut-off in mind for each set you attempt so that you can prevent wasting time on one single set.

sai: Vocab is very important. Read a word list and try to actively use those words in a sentence. This will help you retain the words you have learnt. Read a good quality newspaper and this will help increase both your Vocabulary and also your grammar.

krish: how will be able to book slots for writing the ON-LINE AIMCAT at test centres. also, is there any option of taking the non-invigilated ONLINE AIMCATS at your centre.
sai: A slot booking system will be provided online on the Student Home Page to book slots. You can take non invigilated Mock CATs at our centres subject to availability of slots.

kk: If yr vocab is pretty basic, start with the book 30 days to vaocab by Wilfred Funk and Norman Lewis

sai: It is true that quite a lot of questions are there which combine two-three concepts but then again there are quite a few Qs that come from a single concept/topic.

sai: Dont prepare for important topics as each topic in CAT is important and there is no specific weightage given to any chapter or set of chapters. Prepare for all topics and dont leave out any topic

sai: The verbal section has changed drastically since 2006 in the form of more difficult passages and tougher choices. You need to read a lot of difficult passages online to get into the groove. Focus on improving in Grammar and beef up your vocabulary by doing regular reading and going through a word list.
