time gandalf: Sir when will the complete schedule of aim-cats will be available..Can we take the missed aim-cats if we have genuine reasons...I am having JOB test on this 7th...
kranthi: since u cannot miss the actual cat for whatever reason so is the case with aimcats.


erudite: Sir many a times i face a lot of discrepancies with the FIJs how do i overcome..and understand the difference beetween judgement and inference
kranthi: inference is knowing the underlying reasons.judgement is to express your approval or dis approval of things.


abhi: HI sir , what should good amount of time one should devote for cat 09 now onwards daily
sai: About 3-4 hrs per day.


erudite: is the actual CAT postponed to december last week or is it just a rumour
sai: The actual dates of CAT are not yet known but it is quite possible that it will be in December. The bulletin which is expected to come in July will clarify this.

sai: They will be starting from around the first week of July. the schedule will be available next week on the SHP for our Full course students


erudite: by what month i should be completing my entire course atleast once

time gandalf: sir. I am doing Speed Maths, revising all basics in quant, throughly preparing wren n martin and Norman Lewis and reading all editorials From Hindu and ET................. Apart from this i am doing one exercise each from Quant, DI......... I am doing this since 45 days..yet I made very less score of 56 in this AIM-CAT..Can you suggest me some tips how to improve my scores......
kranthi: have to get idea about things like strategy u are using and things like that it would be better if u discuss this issue one to one with faculty members.


maverick: gud evening sir !! will cue cards suffice for cat vocabulary ..or is it a must to learn the etymology stuff from norman lewis ?!
sai: Norman Lewis is a good addition if one wants to have a great vocabulary


aks: sir m non maths student doin my engg. from VELLORE..... kindly tell me that wl d TIME correspondence material be sufficient enough to prepare for CAT'2009.... it wouldnt be possible fr me to attend the regular CLASSROOM SESSIONS....
kranthi: correspondence is comprehensive.


erudite: i started preparation seriously in march

napster: sir...I have enrolled for the test series in Hyderabad... I will not be in hyderabad for few days, so can i take a couple of tests in a different city?
kranthi: drop in and talk to the counsellors in the nearest time office


aks: if i start preparimg frm june..... wl i b able to cmplete my entire course on time....
kranthi: yes provided the required rigor is there in your prep.


aks: wl i also get d CUE CARDS wd d correspondence course.

sai: Work on the SMs, analyse the AIMCATs and keep working on your vocab. This is the key to improving in AIMCAts and getting a call from the IIMs.


sumeshrnair: sir,tell me some good book in di??i mean i solved the first book in di...didnt do the second book??but the questions asked in mockcat are very hard compared to the level of the first book...please help!
kranthi: the time material is more than sufficient for di.solve all the material we issue .


maverick: sir , wat percentage of total students appearing for CAT r called for the GD/PI 's ...and wat % of them get finally selected .?!
sai: at the IIMs around 1-2 % are called and around 0.5% finally make it


aks: what is d strategy fr preparin fr d vocubalary part
kranthi: add at least 20 words to ur vocab everyday and revise them till you make it apart of ur long term memory.focus on the usage.read newspaper regularly.


erudite: sir..i am attempting the previous year aimcats and my score is not crossing 110 100 at max 120.i have developed a lot of fear as on when i compare it with my friends score..hw do i overcome this
kranthi: learn to trust your instincts identify your problem zones and address them.


aks: wl my non maths bckgrnd prove to be a major drawbck in my way of gettin thru CAT
sai: not at all.....a good effort will easily see u thru


sumeshrnair: sir,will doing speed mathematics test improve my calculation speed??i mean for 20 years im used to set pattern of solving maths,and adopting speed maths techniques while doing a problem seems impossible or less habitual!is there enough time for me to sharpen my skills to get the extra advantage....
kranthi: calculation speeds get better by practice.some amou nt of unlearning and relearning is inevitable.


sumeshrnair: sir,i got just 81 for this mockcat..this is my first mockcat...do i stand a good chance to improve myselves n get into the mecca of mba??
sai: 81 is a great first score and u have very bright chances of improving on it


napster: Sir... When are the online tests going to start?
sai: Around the first week of July


sumeshrnair: time is giving huge stress on clearing the first part...but sir,what about the second part??will my public speaking and my first hand experiences in (trading in markets),job consultancies give me a good advantage being a fresher???do iim interviewers ask for certificates as proof??
sai: Your experience will give you an advantage as long as u can get a call from the IIMs. Certificates are required for everything that you write on the form


sumeshrnair: sir,can i get permission to cat aim cat bound volumes photostat from my time centre,trivandrum??is it possible??time centre is a bit far from my home..
sai: Please contact your center at Trivandrum for this


erudite: this aimcat i got only 78 percentile..do i stand any chance to get into any good b schools?
kranthi: yes provided u improve .


rips: WATS STANDARD GOING TO BE IN CAT 09?IS IT GOING TO DECREASE?
kranthi: the standards may not be diluted.

erudite: the AIMCATS are not being discussed at our centre..is it that theres any special class meant for it or they wont be discussed at all
sai: Please contact your center and clarify this with them. Which centre are you from


gandalf: sir, I am a 2008 pass out and still a fresher..I am preparing for CAT 09 and also going for job trails....In the mean time, I am also preparing for N.C.F.M. exams...I would be taking the tests in august. Will they be of any use to me in the selection process of B-schools if I remained a fresher till '09 due this recession period.? P.S. Till Date, I have worked for 2 U.S. based projects (Part time) under a professor for 2 months...
kranthi: better intensify ur job hunt and prepare.

sai: The AIMCATs will certainly be discussed in Hyderabad center and definitely at ECIL center. BTW the discussions will start in the next 2 weeks so wait till then

maverick: Sir , as far as RC's r concerned ,wat content wud u recommend as a must-read to improve on it ?!
sai: Read a daily newspaper, some magazines like Frontline, India Today etc and obviously the RC links given on the Student Home Page on www.time4education.com


vivek: i have not joined any classes. what should i do
kranthi: join them or opt for a test series or correspondence course.


rips: what do i need to do for VA?is NORMAN LEWIS sufficient?
sai: TIME study Material alongwith Norman lewis and a good dictionary


rahul: i have one year gap after engg will this be disadvantage for me for admission in top 20 college
kranthi: u can undo the damage by putting up a spirited performance.


erudite: how do we understand the different usages of a word..those box like questions which appear in the test.sometimes the usages are completely new..
kranthi: focus on verbal phrases and idioms read extensively.


vivek: i scored 99 & 90 percentile in math &DI last year.but22 only in english. on the changed pattern by iim, on which thing i should focus
sai: Obviously work a lot more on Verbal and DI


sonal: Sir,regarding vocab do we have to be a master of words list and how do i improve myself in di?
sai: Having a good vocabulary is important but one needn't be a master of the word list

kranthi: 2to3 hours of quality effort can work wonders.


sumeshrnair: sir,reading articles as such,will it improve our reading speed n vocabulary,or should we sit with a pen,and underline the words and study them and keep on practising regulary these words.
sai: Reading articles is a good way to increase vocabulary and reading speed. Underlining helps us to recollect the words to remember


vivek: on which thing regarding english should i focus
sai: On whatever you are weak in to start with. Important areas are RC, Grammar and vocabulary


jp_chennai: when will the exact aim cat schedule be available for students who registered only for aimcats
sai: by next week


rahul: what will be difficulty level of cat 09
kranthi: there are going to be around 30 papers for cat09.they are unlikely to depart a big way from their traditions.


vivek: RC took a lot of time. is there another way to achieve good marks inenglish section
sai: No easy way...u need to work on u r weak areas as it is not possible to manage with a weak area in CAT


jp_chennai: i am working for a electrical core company in project management. will this be an advantage to me compared to students in R&D or programming back ground
kranthi: possible.

nomita: sir,i have started taking tests every day but i have many doubts regarding solutions in english..will u upload the solutions as well??
kranthi: yes.

sai: A good vocabulary is essential to do well in CAT verbal section


rahul: what is weightage given to work exp from small company in top 20 non-iim institute
sai: around 5-10%


sumeshrnair: sir,is it necessary to do all questions in the study material??i mean,will i be able to finish it off??i have done first book in di,and a few chapters in quant and very few in logical ability..will i be able to finish it in 2 months time???
sai: If u finish all the SMs then it will be a good way to start u r 2009 CAT campaign


sonal: IN VERBAL SECTION IS IT BETTER THAT I ATTEMPT MORE GRAMMAR BASED AND OTHER MISCELLANEOUS QUES THAN COMPREHENSION

vivek: books for DI contain only numerical based questions.but CAT has different format. how can i prepare
sai: The TIME material has a good mix of both logical and calculation intensive Qs. The AIMCATs will also be a good source of high quality Qs

sai: Anything above 85 shows promise and a good percentile is around 95+


sumeshrnair: its been two weeks since the test started,i have done every single test ,around 10 papers but cant analyse myself due to unavailability of solutions,its would be voluminous to analyse 9 at a stretchplease do something about this...when will solutions be uploadeD??
sai: It will be uploaded by next week. till such time work out the Qs and try to figure out different ways of working out the Qs

erudite: sir,i got a pre placement offer at a core company with a good package of 12 lakhs per annum.its often distracting to leave the preparation and just join the job how do i overcome this
kranthi: join the job and prepare.

sai: If you work around 4 hrs a day then cracking CAT would be quite possible. The time is more than sufficient
