Last Day Tips!

Questions and Answers

batty: Sir, can we be sure that we would be clearing the sectional cutoffs if we just get the doable (according to TIME standards, from their analysis of AIMCATs) right
Sai: It would definitely go a long way in clearing the cut-offs.

raj: i hv analyze that approx 1/3rd ques correct will make clear cut off .is that correct???
Sai: If this was CAT2006 then it certainly would have been true provided you did not get more than 10-12 Qs incorrect

badd: If I feel that i am not clearing the minimum cutoff requirements set by some IIM's in a particular section during the test, should i resort to some guessing in that section?
Sai: Absolutely no guessing. Its very possible that you might end up with a negative score overall!!

yogesh: i am very afraid of verbal section as i see in the cat 2006
Sai: No one is going to harm you if you get a few Qs incorrect in the Verbal section of CAT2007!! You are not alone in your fears....everyone feels the same. Conquer your fears and give it your best shot.

hd_catter: Are we allowd to carry a digital watch... which has a stopwatch in examination hall??
Sai: Examiners ask students to deposit digital watches with stopwatches etc on the table. Better carry the normal watch without a digital display.

Rahul: Hello Sir ! Can I take a pencil box with me in the exam hall ?? Or should I keep all the pencils , erasers etc in my pocket ?
Sai: Pencil box is allowed. if there is no pieces of paper inside it with formulas written on it!!

ARCHUK_LEO: PLS TELL ME WCH CHAPTERS SHUD I REVISE IN MATHS???
Sai: No more revising today. Just try to relax and cool off. Have a good nap and sufficient rest.

cat_assault: ideally, what should be the order of attempting sections?
Sai: What you have been doing in your MOCKS and you are comfortable with.

feline: Sir as my accuracy in Eng less than 50% shud I attempt large no of ques in it, which wud result is spending lot of time(>55 mins) in 1 section .
Sai: Use the buffer time of 15-20 mins for this section.

yogesh: what i should today for verbal section ?
Arkss: today is an off day. So relax. Read some good book or articles from the newspaper (anything but CAT articles). All the best.

badd: If I feel that i am not clearing the minimum cutoff requirements set by some IIM's in a particular section during the test, should i resort to some guessing in that section?
Sai: No guessing whatsoever as you might lose the marks that you had gained by working out some questions. CAT has never been lucky towards gamblers!!

cathunter: me a 3 yr bba stud started pre in jan07 but have not performed well in aimcats 30-40%ile average because of less efforts. what should i do now as i have decided to give my all eforts fr 08 cat also i have not fill up any other frm accept iift
Sai: Give your best shot at CAT2006 since there is nothing to lose from your perspective.

bond: good morning sir. what is the percentile requirement for IIM A, L AGRI BUISNESS MANAGEMENT
Sai: Will be around 95-97%ile.

ravi: what is ur opinion on obc will it be allowed at the time of admissions
Sai: Just watch the political developments. Looks unlikely with the NDA not being in power.

hd_catter: If we get differential marks in different sections...eg. Va-40, di-60, qa-50 , how shud we allocate time to different sections?
Arkss: Obviously more time to DI and less time to VA in probably similar proportions.

hd_catter: I have abt 90% accuracy in DI & <50% in VA, should i allot more time to VA?
Arkss: As long as you get 50% accuracy and attempt almost all questions then it is fine, you don't have to give more time

Naveed: As I can read from the chat transcripts, you have advised for zero preparation today, 17th...I think this would bring down the heat in me a bit(strange but I suppose). What should I do?
Sai: A brain that has had rest and is fresh performs 87% better than one that has been preparing till the last minute (Acc to the WHO statistics!!)

tubby: really appreciate u guys for coming out wid this....last year i scored 97.35 verbal 99 quant 93 DI 89...didnt get any calls...my question is what wud have better ...to maiximize the score say 99+ with DI arnd 89...or clearing DI..and losing on maximazing the score...and when u say of cut-off is it 90%ile or more than that...thanks
Arkss: 99+ will help you getting some calls atleast but getting less than 98 overall and crossing cutoffs in all may still not help.

little: sir can we trust cut off's given by iim's,if not then does it fluctuate too much?
Arkss: ofcourse you can. but the cutoffs given are the minimum. The actuals can be more.

MFI: hi sir... My Questions left unanswered yesterday also... Please tell me what a percentile 65 , 75, 85 and 90 % in AIMCAT usually translates into CAT... As Most of the serious ppl take TIME aimcat
Sai: Anyone getting a percentile of 70 or more in the AIMCATs should fancy their chances in CAT

anu: Hi Sir, I'm not focussing on IIM's. My %ile in Aimcats has been 80, on an average. So, i'm aiming for institutes with lesser %ile. So, during attempting CAT, shd i focus mainly on my strongest area? I mean it it advisable that i spend more than 1.5 hr's on VA section?
Arkss: If this is true, then maybe yes. Still you should give atleast 40 min to each section.

Mayuresh: Sir! May i know please what can be the cutoff for MDI (HR)(and sectional if any) ??
Sai: Should be around 95 %ile this year.

look: sir what will u think that this is which section will be difficult or moderate
Arkss: does it really matter friend? Anyways, I think it will be depending on your ability in each of these sections.

ravi: should i just revision 1 oues from aimcat on di from each area just to keep myself calm
Sai: Revise if you think it is absolutely essential.

alokmba: hi sir, 1st of all i like 2 thanks u sir. and dis is 4 arks sir, i am a student 4m thane. i met u 3 2 4 times, really u r my role model sir. i like ur style n personality. lets c whether i can b like u or nt.
Arkss: Hey Alok, Thanks. Wish you all the best for CAT 2007.

Aditya: Sir, What is the approx percentile required in each section to clear the sectional Cut offs. Also I would like to thank TIME for organizing these chat sessions.
Sai: Around 85+ in each section and an overall of around 98.5+ for atleast one call.

chintu: sir.....what should be done today....?
Arkss: Hey Chintu, Just enjoy the day. See a movie if you must. But don't think too much about CAT for the day. Keep all the pencils, erasers, halltickets, watch etc ready

raj: i am nt good in english....also ihv nt scored more than 50% in aimcats bt in maths di ,,i was consistent with 90+ .what should i do??
Arkss: Maximise your score in DI and QUANT and give around 40 min to English so that you may just get the cutoff or thereabouts.

feline: sir if i get say 95%ile in each DI and QA , and around 80 in VA wat wud b my overall %ile?
Sai: If it is a paper like CAT2006 then this should be around 95 percentile

ramashristi: i'm confident about my prep, all the same what is the success mantra for 2morrow
Arkss: Confidence about the exam too.,

yogesh: what should be done if we unable to attempt question guess/leave?
Sai: LEAVE and search for the next easy Q

hd_catter: Where is ARKS sir.... waiting 4 ur replies sir??
Arkss: am here friend

MFI: Sir i meant 65,75,85 and 90%tile in Verbal of aimcat(not overall)
Arkss: sorry didn't understand. write the entire question again.

raj: should i guess 4 the ques in eng ...coz im confident wid my di & maths bt nt in english.....(to get call frm iim)
Arkss: general guessing is not advisable at all.

batty: Sir, from your experience what would be percentage (say 40% of questions in DI) which would surely take us past the sectional cutoffs
Sai: It all depends on the kind of paper one gets. If it is a very difficult paper maybe 20% would be enough however if it is an easy section it might go upto 50% as well!!

ashwinrulz: SIR, what should be done at this point of time,i mean how to revise and what all should be done in di and verbal
Arkss: revision date is over. Now over to the exam mode. Relax for the day and be ready for tomorrow.

alokmba: sir tel me should i go through d special booklet set given on mock2 now? is it that much important?
Arkss: a little for sure. go thru the questions without fail.

cat_assault: Sir i have a gud speed in VA/RC but an average accuracy so what should be the ideal strategy for this?
Arkss: maxmimise attemts

feline: is there any chance of getting word based ques in VA , wats the probability ?
Sai: A very good probability.

hd_catter: My total attempt has been very less throughout mock cats..... what should i do increase them??
Arkss: do not waste time on each question, automatically the speed will increase.

badd: What are the minimum sectional percentages for a call for various IIM's?
Arkss: it can range from 85%ile to 95%ile.

Rakesh: hi sir...am pretty confident with the DI n Qa section..but verbal stil sucks aftr a long term preps..wat i do spnd more with RC tan vocabs?
Arkss: depends on what you are more comfortable with.

little: sir is D.I section going to be tougher than our aimcats?if yes then cut off should be in negative.
Sai: You have prepared with the best possible set of Qs in the AIMCATs - CAT2007 should look easy in comparison!!!

yogesh: today i am revising the geometry section from time like formula and solve the question ,is it ok
Arkss: YES

medhavi: although i feel really calm and composed ,but there is anxiety within, what should i do.
Arkss: perfectly normal. see a good movie.

akki: rigth now i am scoring 98 - 99 percentile in natiomal level test series . what r my chances.
Arkss: excellent. all the best.

Naveed: Sir, can our overall AIMCAT scores in anyway predict the approximate score we would get in CAT? What can the possible deviation be?
Arkss: your CAT score can be atleast 2 percentile to 20 percentile higher depending on what range you are at in the AIMCATs.

tubby: Hi Sai...analyzing last 10 years CAT papers I have found that every year in both QA and DI there are some absolute doable questions no matter however difficult the paper is...can we expect a questions where there are no sitters ...for Eg: all the DI sets are too tough!..they say expect the unexpected!!
Sai: If there are only "Very Difficult" kind of sets in DI then the cutoff is going to plummet. In such a scenario doing 2 sets should be enough to sail through. Remember that at the end of the day it is only the relative performance that matters.

chintu: sir..im very weak in quants..although i solve 3-4 questions in every paper but nt getting cut off...what shoulb be done tommorow?
Arkss: read all questions and spend 2 minutes only on those questions which are familiar to you.

sab: What is the best strategy to tackle a paper with -ves for unanswered q's?
Sai: Check the transcript of yesterday's chat.

batty: Sir, roughly how many people are called for GDPI (in number of persons, not calls) in all IIMs put together?
Sai: Around 2500-3000

average_prep: sir, except in a couple of AIMCATS i have never crossed 80%ile .65-70%ile is the average you can say. I am decent in VA , improved than before in Quant and miserable in DI.In these final moments any tips , boosters ,strategy for tomorrow, etc. would really be of great help
Arkss: I guess, if you have been getting 70%ile in AIMCATs (last few), that can convert into a 85%ile. Do the same and you may just get the 90%ile mark. That would be good to get into quite a lot of good colleges. Don;t guess unnessarily by panicking.

nikhil: Hi Sir, I am writting this cat as exposure for CAT 2008, how should be my approach for tomorrow?
Sai: Look around and notice what others are doing or should not be doing and avoid those mistakes next year.

arijit: sir, which section should i attemp as my english section is little bit weak in comparison to other sections
Arkss: u mean first? start with whatever is comfortable.

ravi: what is ur opinion what is iims looking to do with different no of questioin and marks to each ques are they trying to take out the cream or what are they looking for
Arkss: just fill the 1500 odd seats :)

ashwinrulz: wht should be done at this pointof time for revising data intepretation and verbal???
Arkss: hi ashwin, you can't do much today anyway. relax.

Dol: Sir, as TIME website says that a detailed analysis will be available on 18th evening, can we expect the reduced cutoffs for the PWD category seperately as well.
Sai: The cutoffs for the PWD category depend on the applicants from that pool. If a PWD candidate gets 99.90 %ile in CAT then the seat in one of the IIMs will be taken by that individual. It has been noticed that a pecentile in the range of 90-95 should be good enough to get a call from this category.

hyc7p235: Hello Sir, i have 2 questions... 1. Will we be allowed to carry an examination pad into the hall, so that we can get a uniform surface under the OMR sheet? Many of the schools and colleges have their benches with gaps!!!! 2. Can we have a chewing gum during the examination? That actually helps me concentrate better... Would anyone object to the chewing gum?
Arkss: 1. No 2. Yes.

vijay: sir, what is the best strategy to follow in case there is 2 or more sub section in a section...
Arkss: Divide time between sections and subsections too.

Rahul: Sir how much percentile one should score to get a call from IISWBM (Kolkata) .. Could you just predict any suitable score from your past experience ? thank u :)
Sai: Around 85-88 %ile.

sab: What is the best strategy to tackle a paper with -ves for unanswered q's?
Arkss: if the negative for unasnwered is more than for the wrong answer then do not attempt, but if the negative for unanswered is less than for the wrong answer then GUESS.

prasad: i was little bit tensed about quant section what should i do
Sai: Watch a movie and relax.

Aman: Sir, what have been the cut-offs for IIM C PGDCM
Sai: Not very differnet from that of the regular program. Around 98.5%ile plus is required.

abhi: sir , What to study on last day ?
Arkss: hi abhi, nothing much, revise formulae. read some passages and just gather yourself together.

rish: hi.... should i read any rc passages from the aimcat
Arkss: u mean today? go ahead if you like.

chintu: should i go for shopping and freaking out,as a means to relax?
Arkss: absolutely if that helps!

cat_assault: considering CAT 2007 to be of an average difficulty level, what should be the percentage of questions one should aim to attempt?
Arkss: as many as you can.

alokmba: sir am an arts graduate bt very gud in quant n always did well in quant n di. bt my academic is nt tat much gud its just 60%. so ll it affect in selection?
Sai: CAT is the criteria for selection. If you do not have a good CAT score then nothing else would matter!! Try and get a fundoo percentile and the IIMs would certainly call you.

catie: I am not sure whether the selected answer is a correct one for any of the verbal ques.. wat should i do??
Arkss: i don't think any one writing the CAT paper will ever be sure of his/her answer. SO answer and go to the next one.

look: yes what we have to do today?
Sai: Chat with us. Watch the program on CNN-IBN at 330PM otitled "Success at CAT' for last day tips.

Ram: Hello Sir IS IT Advisable to attempt max no of questions in VA when Paper is tough or If My accuarcy is Very Low (say 30-40 %) ?
Sai: If it is very tough go slow and try and maximise your accuracy as well.

STAR: wat should be the accuracy to b maintained in 75 q papers, 15o q paper, 120 q paper, 225 q paper
Arkss: ideally 100% accuracy. But then, do the best you can. I guess it would not be in your hands anyways. Just do what you can friend. It is the best strategy.

little: cut off OF FORE WILL BE AROUND?
Sai: 85-88%ile

Dol: This is an excellent idea to have an online chat just one day before cat. I would like to congratulate the team behind this initiative.
Arkss: Hey, thanks Dol.

hd_catter: On which news channel will u be analysing CAT07 paper??
Sai: Every major channel will carry expert opinions on CAT

bike: sir i hitted >99.5 %ile in 11 aim cats.but in some aimcats i scored only 70 t0 80 %ile. how to rectify this disparity
Arkss: hi bike, tomorrow will be your day. Go ahead and crack the exam. See you in the IIMs. All the best.

priyam: is there sectional cutt of for mica???
Sai: No just an overal of around 90-91%ile

ravi: sir what things to remember at the time of exam if i am not getting a good score in 1 hour how to keep myself calm
Arkss: regroup your thoughts, allot time once again and use the next 90 min intelligently.

pavanpadekal: sir i have fever and cold right now :-) do u know of cases where ppl have cracked it despite being unwell ?
Sai: I know of medicines that work in 6-10 hours!! Get a good cough syrup and take some medication for Cold!!

pratcat: sir in the most aimcats i hav adopted a strategy of attempting atleast 1/3rd ques in each section(after scanning) irrespective of the sequence and strength in the particular section. is this strategy ok to b taken tomorrow?
Arkss: do as many as you can in the given time.

ravi: what if am able to eleminate two options shouldi mark one ans or leave that
Sai: If you are able to zero in on 2 choices then go ahead and guess.

hd_catter: hd_catter: If we get differential marks in different sections...eg. Va-40, di-60, qa-50 , how shud we allocate time to different sections? Arkss: Obviously more time to DI and less time to VA in probably similar proportions. ------ what is others allot equal time to all sections.... cutoffs for section with least marks can go high
Arkss: very unlikely hd_catter. People will still do what is the most likely thing to do.

ravi: what i should eat befor i go for cat exam
Arkss: you have got to be awake during the exam :) so i suggest nothing too heavy!

ravi: what if i am not good in geometry will i be able clear cut off
Sai: There will be questions from other areas as well. So chill and relax.

sleepysentinel: sir, what is the correlation you have seen between AIMCAT and CAT percentiles that you have seen in past years?
Arkss: pretty close relation. Infact your actual cat scores will be a bit higher than your aimcat scores

Dol: Sir, could you please tell me what would be an ideal percentile score for a PWD candidate to get into IIM-A ?
Arkss: depends...80-90%ile

iimasandeep: Sir i've got 99.42%ile with an AIR of 170 and another with 97.32 with an AIR-533 with all cut-off's cleared and a lot more in 96+%ile range but in the last 3 mocks i've been around 90%ile mark. any advice for me?
Sai: Sandeep your grit and determination has been an inspiration to many. At this rate you should bein line for atleast a couple of calls if you keep the momentum going. Keep up the good work. Go ahead and 'phodofy' the exam tomorrow. See you in full swing on Talktime tomorrow. Best of Luck

joe: sir iam very weak in quants and normal in verbal and good in di. shall i still clear my cut and get into iim? and what stratergy do i have to follow.
Arkss: ofcourse you should devote appropriate time in the exam for each of these sections. depending on the first one hour, you can choose whether to maxamise ur scores or to clear the cutoffs

tonc41b: Sir my Aimcats had not been so good...Actually I'm realising my areas of strength & weakness...I have dedided to take this cat as another aimcat & instead focus more on SNAP. IS my approach right?
Arkss: absolutely. the more importance you give to your fears, the more badly you would do in the exam. so just continue ahead as if this is just another mock!

Nani: Sir,How was(level of tackling) the DI in last year cat?
Sai: Very easy compared to our AIMCATs.

sudip: i m not getting answers right in maths section and DI
Arkss: hey sudip, don't worry about all those things today. Tomorrow will be different. Just choose the ones that you can sovle and you would get a great score.

pratcat: do you think i can get a call from any IIM or atleast NITIE,MDI,IMT even if i dont clear th cuttoffs by a small margin in any one section with really phenomenal scores in the other two??
Sai: Very much possible.

AnirbanDas: Hi , I have done pretty well throughout the mock season (>98 always). But the memory of a failure in CAT 2006 is my biggest problem. Any suggestions on how to overcome it?
Sai: Think of the best moments of your life and that will be enough to crowd out the memories of 2006

medhavi: sir my verbal scores vary alot, because i attempt nearly 70%,my scores really stay on my verbal section ,if it goes fine i fare well.auuracy of va 30 to 70
Arkss: hi medhavi, don't worry about the past. tomorrow is another day.

cat_lover: i have not fill up any frm accept cat because i am getting percentile in 30,s now i wnt to prep fr 08 shuld i fill any other frm as i think i have potential to do better next time
Arkss: wait for the exam to get over and once you know your scores and possible percentiles, you can decide.

abhilasha: sir wat shld b done today canb i resort to jus marking da options,,4 clearing da cutoff.
Arkss: hi abhilasha, your question is not clear.

Aman: How would you rate MDI's PGPIM, can it be considered a as a good option. N wat would b the likely cut-offs for this program
Arkss: good. 95

KOOLSAGAR: THANK U FOR ALL UR HELP AND MOTIVATION SIR SIR I USED TO BE A CONSISTENT 94TO 97.8 IN MY EARLY AIMCATS BUT IN MY LAST FEW I DID BAD IN QUANT AND MISSED OUT A GUD PERCENTILE SIR DOES THAT INDICATE THAT MY QUANT NEED MORE ATTENTION
Arkss: hi koolsagar, forget the last few mocks. tomorrow will be your day.

Naveed: By what time will the transcript of 17.11.07 be available on the website?
Arkss: evening.

chandu_velamati: Would you advise us to go thru the basics at this time or just keep off from books?
Arkss: do what pleases you. either way is OK.

priyam: i knw this sounds crazy...will i be allowed to carry a peice of chocolate wid me in the exam?
Arkss: Yes. even a whole chocolate!

vijay: sir..which ll do more good.. more attempts or more accuracy..?
Arkss: ideally both.

ravi: sir what if i fdind some ques is wrong should i enquire or leave that and stay calm abt it
Sai: LEAVE it

rakesh23: sir,how much is the sectional cut off revealed by IIMs in various sections
Arkss: IIMA - 25% in each section. IIMC - 20% in DI and QA; 10% in VA. IIMB - 85%ile in each section. Others have not given.

nikhilonline17: Is the aimcat a true reflection of the performance on THE day. or is it just a confidence booster?
Sai: It is an indicator of one's potential. And as such it is a very good pointer as to how well you will do on that day.

ravi: is there any relief given to obc as compared to general i mean if any like 2percent
Sai: None as of now.

iimasandeep: Sai Sir and ARKss Sir just wish all of us Best Of Wishes and Luck watched CHAK DE today morning and was really an Amazing Movie. Had kept it for today so didn't see it earlier. Planning for anther movie. Can you suggest one?
Arkss: Jab WE met. Hilarious one!

arijit: sir, which section should i attemp first as my english section is little bit weak in comparison to other section!
Arkss: better to start with DI or QA if your VA is weak.

KP: Dear sir , Are there any chances for Multiple answers type of questions.
Arkss: unlikely.

iimasandeep: Sai Sir, i have a very important question for you. i havean't been doing that Buffer Time stuff, so should i do it tomorrow and what are the pros if i do it and does it really help coz i think 45 mins is not enough for certain sections and there might be no coming back if one is carried away in the heat. suggestions?
Sai: Sandeep the buffer helps one tide over any difficult section and helps one fight the vicissitudes of the exam. Do keep atleast a 15 minute buffer.

joy: respected sir, am eagerly waiting for 2mrw cat. i am very confident that i will demolish the paper 2mrw. i managed to get above 99.6 percentile in all the 20 aim cats. am now going to a film with my friends. is this attitude ok..
Arkss: GREAT. All the best.

GoGetter: Hi Sir, What would you recommend for RC questions. Traditional, elimination and clue finding based method or instinctive method based on our comprehension of passage
Arkss: latter.

var: wat is NITIES cut off last year
Sai: 97.5%ile +

NM: i m weak in VA , so if the VA section gets tough should i go for maximising my score in other two section for other colleges? or i need to score equally good in all the sections for colleges like MDI, NITIE...
Arkss: if VA is tough, it would be for everyone. So do what gives the best score.

sukhoi: uptil nw i was nt feeling tensed n nervous ,listenin 2 qts of othrs i feel realy tensed ..
Arkss: don't read this. see chak de or Jab we met. relax.

feline: sir wud getting a 0 in one section still fetch me calls 4m schools without cutoffs
Sai: That would be dicey. A positive score atleast in every section even for schools without sectional cutoffs would be a safe idea.

priyam: sir, wud there be sessions like this for iift, snap or xat. it is very very helpful.
Arkss: we would do that.

akaknksha: respected sir, ideally which section should be attempted first?
Arkss: your strong section.

sri: what is the best way to start the paper?
Sai: With a prayer on your lips and hope in your heart!!

yogesh_cat: i have also solve the paper from the PT and carrer launcher and good marks as compare to time so what i should considered?
Arkss: as long as your CAT scores are good, nothing to worry.

subha: Hi there...i had fluctuatin scores in aimcats(70 to 92)..can i make a decent score tmrw??..
Arkss: Absolutely.

ravi: is icfai hyderabad good for mba finance
Sai: It is a very decent school.

parvi: i ve been regularly gettin 88- 89 percentile in ma aimcats with a few in d early nighties as wel, hw much can i expect tom?
Arkss: if you reach the same performance, then easily 95%ile +

abhishek: i have done almost barron's word list...is there a chance...of vocab finding place
Sai: Pray that CAt07 does as you have practiced quite a lot.

pratcat: has it ever happened that an 80% iler (in aimcats) has scored a %ile above 97 in real cat (from past time students)
Sai: Many a time. you have a very decent chance. Give the exam all that you have got.

priyam: i wud also like to knw approx cut offs for BIM, KJ somaiya and wellingkar...
Arkss: 85%ile, 89%ile, 80%ile respectively,

jhgjhg: sir i hav a 100 percentile in 19 aimcats..... sir wat r my chances?
Sai: Getting a call - 99.99% Not getting a call - Very less!!

iwillwinin2007: sir, do you expect the number of questions to go down further? what about variable marking?
Sai: Anything is possible. Whatever it will be tomorrow atleast you would have thought about it and would have made some plans for it. So dont worry about it.

sri: can i collect my duplicate hall ticket bfore exam
Sai: It has to be done today if you havent already got it.

rocks: hi sir. i scored only 52 % in bachelors degree BA.BL . But we can get only that much marks in law. do i have a chance to get in to the iims. what is the best iim for HR
Sai: Do well in CAT...That alone matters

Nani: If at all in a particular section answers r not solvable or time taking..then is it better to leave that section?
Sai: Not at all. One needs to clear sectional cutoffs to get a call - so dont leave any section at all.

GoGetter: Should we go IN with a demolition attitude or is it better to be on defensive, initially.
Sai: Demolition attitude.....

raj: hello sir.i have the following doubt.say i am in the di saection and the time i had allotted to it is over but i'm stuck in a particular set.............should i go ahead and give it 5-8 more mins if i think i'll be able to solve it completely ...within that time and will be able to clear the cutoff in that section?
Sai: Take a call based on your previous experience in the AIMCATs

cat_assault: sir, i was out of country for my office work for the past one month.,this is my second attempt and i feel out of touch wid cat. what do you suggest me to do today. should i take a mock??
Sai: Not required. Nothing much can be accomplished in a few hours time.

vicisitude: sir please tell me if institutes like ubs(chandigarh) and imi(delhi) has sectional cut offs?if not should i target for scoring max %ile instead f worrnyng about cut offs if i am targeting these colleges?
Sai: UBS - around 90-91 and IMI around 94-95. No sectional cutoffs stressed last year but one never knows for sure what is going to happen this year. So try to get a decent score in all sections.

karthik: wat is the minimum percentile reqd in cat for IIM-Bangalore . I belong to OC category. I have good weightage in other categories.I hav got 90% in B.E and 96% in 12th
Sai: Already answered.

NM: where you have seen the minimum criteria as 10% for each section for
Sai: CAT bulletin
