COCHIN UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY


University of Cochin came into existence in the year 1971 and was later reorganized as Cochin University of Science & Technology in the year 1986. The University is a member of The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi and UGC.Over the three decades it has attained a federal University status by offering a wide range of Undergraduate,Post graduate and Doctoral programs. The 28 departments of CUSAT open windows to areas like Engineering, Environment studies, Marine sciences, Medical science & Technology, Science, Social science & Technology, Humanities, Law & Management.

CUSAT Campuses

There are two separate Engineering colleges under
  1. The main Campus at Thrikkakkara, (15 Km from Cochin city), Kerala
  2. The Pulinkunnu Campus at Kuttanad, Alappuzha, Kerala
Admission to B.Tech Degree Course

For B.Tech Degree courses the candidate has to appear for a Common Admission Test (CAT). Or Lateral Entry test (LET) for engineering diploma holders.

Eligibility

Pass in Plus Two examination of the State of Kerala with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as optional subjects or any other examination accepted as equivalent thereto securing a minimum of 50% marks in Mathematics and 50% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together. Or minimum 60% marks in a three year Engineering diploma recognized by the Board of Technical education of state for Lateral entry.

Age limit

Not more than 20 years on first of October of the year for CAT and Not more than 25 years on first of October of the year for LET

Probable Date of CAT/LET

CAT will be conducted in the month of April and LET in May every year.

Conduct of CAT

CAT comprises Two Papers:

    Paper I -Mathematics
    Paper II -Physics and Chemistry
The entrance exam consists of 125 Objective Type Questions, in a ratio of 5:3:2 among the three subjects.

Mark Scheme

One correct answer gets 3 marks and one wrong answer -1 mark

Conduct of LET

LET has 3 hour duration.Total marks - 100.

The mark distribution among subjects are

English -10, Engineering mechanics-20, Engineering graphics-20, General engineering -25 and mathematics-25

The pattern of exam solely depends on the University decisions.
