National Institute of Technology Jalandhar was established in the year 1987 as Regional Engineering College and was given the status of National Institute of Technology (Deemed to be University) by the Government of India under the control of Ministry of Human Resource Development, New Delhi on October 17, 2002. The institute offers Under Graduate programs in the following disciplines

Facilities

Central Library was established in 1988 (the same year this institute was established).Since then this center of learning has been functioning with the aim of encouraging self learning and to supplement academics, boost research and development activities and to promote consultancy activities. At present central library is housed in a multistoried building situated in the midst of all departments and hostels and is easily accessible to all. For smooth functioning of the library it has been divided into different sections and readers have been allowed open access to the library holdings. It also provides services like Internet facilities/access to online resources, Audio visual facilities, reservation of publications, reprographic services etc.

Computer centre

The Main assignments and activities of this centralized facility are to:

• Provide, manage and ensure the satisfactory operation of joint computer and software facilities for the students and departments that require these facilities.
• Provide technical assistance to various users.
• Ensure the monitoring of the computer network at the institute, and the coordination of inter-connections and the management of overall computer facilities for the whole institute.
• Provide computer facilities for the institute administration.

It is proposed to have maximum of 2 Mbps leased line internet connection, servers and nodes. The Common data services for office automation, information systems will be developed in the institute very shortly.

Placement and Training

The department started functioning in the year 1990. it provides three basic types of services

• Placement of outgoing Graduates
• Industrial Practical Training of students during the four-year B.Tech. Programme.
• Industry Institute Partnership activities
