National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur
National Institute of Technology at Jamshedpur which was originally started as
Regional Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur, was established by the Government
of India and the Government of Bihar as a joint venture in 1960 with the aim to
generate technical graduates of highest standards who could provide
technological leadership to the region. The foundation stone of this institute
was laid on 15th August, 1960 at Adityapur.
RIT was upgraded to National Institute of Technology on 27th December, 2002,
with the status of a deemed university. It is now totally under the control of
the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India, New Delhi
since 1st April, 2003.

Facilities
The Campus is located in 289 acre campus.
Central Computer Facility
One of the attractions of this campus is the OVAL structure, the Computer
Center, which accommodates central computing facilities. There are mainly three
types of services viz. computational services, laboratory services and network
services. The network services are limited to the center, but it is to be
extended to the whole academic and residential campus shortly. The floor space
of the center is being augmented in order to accommodate a Multimedia
Laboratory, a CAD Laboratory, a Smart Seminar Room and a Computer Museum.
Other Facilities
There are 10 hostels in all with furnished rooms and amenities. The institute
maintains courts for basketball, volleyball, badminton and tennis. Apart from
this, it also has cricket, hockey and football grounds along with a gymnasium.
