NIT K
National Instiute of Technology Karnataka is a Deemed University. It was
established originally as Karnataka Regional Engineering College in the year
1960.
The campus is called "SRINIVASNAGAR" after Honourable Ullal Srinivasa
Mallya, a great visionary and architect of Dakhshina Kannada District
A competent and professional team of 195 Faculty members are backing up the
steady growth and development of the college. Nearly fifty percent of them
possess Ph.D. degrees from reputed Indian as well as foreign Universities. The
highly qualified and dedicated faculty have created an active teaching-learning
interface. Other activities include research, consultancy, counselling, career
guidance, and similar professional work. The Faculty members have been keeping
abreast with the technological developments taking place in their areas of
specialisation. Many of them are empanelled as Experts in their respective
fields, by the State and National level organisations. Their contribution of
technical papers in reputed national and international journals have been
noteworthy. Majority of the faculty members reside in the campus and have a
record of long tenure of dedicated service in the college. Many of the faculty
also possess rich industrial experience and it is no surprise that a few of
them are also NITK Alumni.

The B Tech / BEL Admissions will be based on AIEEE (All India
Engineering / Pharmacy / Architecture Entrance Examination. Admissions to NIT's
(NITK/Other NITs) will be based on the applications submitted for AIEEE
The institute also offers M.Tech programs in areas like Civil engineering,
Applied Mechanics and Hydraulics, Mechanical engineering, Electronics and
Communication, Electrical and electronics, Metallurgical and Material
Engineering besides doctoral programmes in different departments. It also
offers a MCA program. Master of Computer Applications which is a 3 year(6
semester) programme that is different from M.Tech. This programme is offered by
the department of Mathematical and Computational Sciences.
Facilities
Central Library
The library has a floor area of 2,758 Sq mtrs. And comprises of two wings.
Periodicals, journals and bound volumes are accessible in the Western wing,
while books are housed in the Eastern wing. Three reading halls which can
accommodate a total of 600 students provides the peaceful and friendly
atmosphere for absorbing the knowledge available through books.
A computer terminal provided at the counter near the entrance can be used to
gain information regarding status of availability and particulars of any book.
The in-house activities of the Library have been computerized using the LIBSYS
software. A bar-coded system of issue and return of books is currently in use.
