NIT Trichy
The National Institute of Technology, Trichy (formerly known Regional
Engineering College, Trichy) was established in the year 1964 as a joint
venture between Government of India and Government of Tamilnadu. It was
accorded a deemed university status in 2003 and was renamed National Institute
of Technology. 1975. The Chairman of NITT is Mr.R. Seshasayee (also
Managing Director, Ashok Leyland Ltd.) and the Director of NITT is Prof.M
Chidambaram.

Facilities
The sterling hallmark of this NITT campus is The Octagon computer center.
It maintains a Campus-wide Local Area Network with number of systems to provide
computer training to 1000 students at a time, a CAD/CAM centre, a
Library, 8 Mbps Internet connections through STPI, centralized Printing
facility, Seminar and Conference facilities, apart from an in-house maintenance
facility. This center is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for use by students
and staff. This centre is maintained by the Computer Support Group (CSG).
Laboratories and Workshops with sophisticated and modernized
machineries/equipment are available.
Facilities for extracurricular activities like NCC, NSS, Students
Chapters of IEEE, IE Sports & Games with Modern Gymnasium, Swimming
pool are also available in the campus. The Alumni of this institution have
excelled in various spheres and are positioned very well globally in a number
of leading Government, Public Sector & Private Organizations.
Residential facilities are provided for most of the students and staff in the
spacious college campus of about 800 acres. Essential basic amenities like
Hospital, Post & Telegraph, Telecom Center, fully computerized State Bank
of India branch with ATM facility, Book stall, Reprographic Center, Canteen,
Co-op. Stores etc. are also available in the Campus.
Library
The college has a well equipped central library with more than one lakh
documents consisting of technical books, reports, standards and back volumes of
journals. The library subscribes to 179 periodicals (print) plus 1000+
(e-Journals) besides a holding of 15943 bound volumes of journals (back
numbers). The library also contains 15,000 books in the book bank.
Industry Institute Interaction cell
Apart from the conventional departments the Institute also has a separate cell
for Industry Institute interaction, which acts as a single window for
interaction between industry and the institute. The III cell operates an
industrial service scheme called RECTISS - REC Trichy Industrial Service
Scheme, which is primarily aimed at enhancing the interaction and offering the
REC facilities to the industries.
Training and Placement cell
Besides organizing campus placement programs for its students, it helps provide
expert guidance and counseling to students to shape their career interest. It
maintains an updated database of 1500 companies where the students can be
suitably placed. It also helps improve the curriculum based on the industry
feed back.
