Admission Process - CSAB

CBSE will declare the score and rank of Paper-I of JEE (Main) – 2017 for all candidates by 27th April 2017. This score shall comprise of the actual marks obtained in Paper-I of JEE (Main) – 2017 along with the status of those who qualify for appearing in JEE (Advanced) – 2017 provided and subject to other conditions of eligibility being met. The rank shall comprise All India rank and All India category rank.

Only the All India Rank (AIR) is used for admissions through Central Seat Allocation Board to NITs/IIITs/CFTIs/SFIs/Others, while other ranks are for information purposes. All participating institutes that do not use the centralised Seat Allocation Process will prepare their own ranking based on the performance in JEE (Main)-2017 and other criteria as decided by them.

Admission to NITs, IIITs and CFTIs participating though Central Seat Allocation Board will be based on All India Rank subject to the condition that the candidate should have secured at least 75% marks in the 12th class examination, or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th class examination conducted by the respective Boards. For SC/ST candidates the qualifying marks would be 65% in the 12th class examination.

Reservation of seats

As per Government of India rules candidates belonging to certain categories are admitted to seats reserved for them based on relaxed criteria. These categories are:

I. Other Backward Classes (OBC) if they belong to Non Creamy Layer (NCL)

II. Scheduled Castes (SC)

III. Scheduled Tribes (ST)

IV. Persons with Disability (PwD)with 40% or more disability

Eligibility Criteria for Appearing in JEE (Advanced) – 2017:

The minimum academic qualification for appearing in JEE (Advanced) - 2017 is that the candidate must have passed in final examination of Class 12th or equivalent qualifying examination. Those appearing in these examinations in 2017 can also appear in JEE (Advanced) - 2017 provisionally.

All the candidates aspiring to take admission in the undergraduate programmes at IITs and ISM Dhanbad for the year 2017 will have to appear in the Paper 1 (B. E./B. Tech.) of JEE (Main)-2017. Based on the performance in Paper 1 (B. E./B. Tech.) of JEE (Main)-2017, top 220000 candidates (including all categories) will be eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced)-2017.

Admissions to IITs/ISM Dhanbad will be based only on category-wise All India Rank (AIR) in JEE (Advanced), subject to meeting the specified criteria.

A candidate can attempt JEE (Advanced) a maximum of two times in consecutive years irrespective of whether or not he/she passed the Qualifying Examination. The candidates, who have attempted IIT-JEE/JEE(Advanced) in 2015 or earlier, are NOT ELIGIBLE to appear in JEE (Advanced) – 2017.

The candidate who had taken admission in any institute other than IITs & ISM Dhanbad in 2016 is eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced) – 2017 provided that the candidate satisfies other eligibility criteria.
