AILET 2016

AILET'16 was quite a surprise in terms of the Legal Aptitude and the Legal GK sections. However, the other 4 sections were relatively easy and conformed to the predicted pattern. Here's an in-depth analysis of the question paper.

Total number of questions: 150

Time; 90 minutes

  1. English : Number of questions: 35
    1. Reading Comprehension- 1 passage comprising of 10 questions (A lengthy passage at about 500 words). The difficulty level was MODERATE. The passage was based on Agricultural Labourers and Indian Economy.
    2. Vocabulary and Odd one out (7 Qs). The difficulty level was EASY.
    3. Fill in the blanks (Grammar - 5 Qs). The difficulty level was EASY.
    4. Identification of Parts of Speech (3 Qs). The difficulty level was EASY.
    5. Cloze Test (10 Qs). Difficulty level - Easy to Moderate

  2. Legal GK and Aptitude : Number of questions: 35
  3. The Legal Aptitude section was the surprise element of AILET-2016.

    1. A majority of the Principle based questions were from Constitutional Law. Article 15, 16, 20 were some of the Principles.
    2. There was one question from Law of Contracts and about three questions from Law of Torts. No questions were asked from Criminal Law.
    3. Legal GK questions were modelled on contemporary scenarios like BCCI's conflict of Interest, Uttarakhand Presidency Rule, SARFESI Act, Bills passed in 2015 etc.
    4. 10 questions were of the assertion/reason type.
    5. The pattern of the Legal Aptitude section was completely overturned. A very dynamic approach, the kind in which a student is well aware of the contemporary Legal Issues and related Laws, was required to be fully prepared for the section.

  4. General Knowledge : Number of questions: 35
  5. A majority of the questions (20-25) were from Current Affairs. Economics had a fair representation too at 8-10 questions. 2-3 questions were from science and technology.

  6. Logical Reasoning : Total number of questions: 35
    1. There were 10 questions from Critical Reasoning. The difficulty level was MODERATE.
    2. There were 4-5 questions on Series and Sequence. The difficulty level was MODERATE.
    3. There were 5 questions on Direction Sense. The difficulty level was EASY.
    4. There was 1 question on Clock and Calendar. The difficulty level was EASY.
    5. There was 1 question on Seating Arrangement. The difficulty level was MODERATE.

    OVERALL DIFFICULTY LEVEL OF THE SECTION: MODERATE

  7. Mathematics : Total number of questions: 10
  8. The Mathematics section was quite a respite for the aspirants. The questions were on predicted lines and were very doable. The topics included:

    1. Speed, Time and Distance
    2. Time and Work
    3. Profit and Loss
    4. Linear Equations
    5. Venn Diagram
    6. Ratio and Proportion
    7. Simple Interest and Compound Interest
    8. Probability

    OVERALL DIFFICULTY LEVEL OF THE SECTION: EASY

    A good student should score about 95-98.

    Number of doable questions in each section:
    English- 25, Legal- 20, GK- 25, Logical- 20, Maths-10
