Wardha-Admission to MBBS course

Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Sevagram is in the state of Maharashtra and is about 80 kilometers away from Nagpur. The district headquarter, Wardha is ten kilometers from Sevagram. The Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (MGIMS) and the Kasturba Hospital is run by the Kasturba Health Society. MGIMS is affiliated to the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nasik. The institute admits 65 medical students yearly on the basis of an all India entrance test conducted at Delhi, Nagpur, Hyderabad and Mumbai centers. Post-graduation courses in all major clinical and basic science disciplines are offered at MGIMS.

Eligibility

  • The candidate must be an Indian national.
  • Minimum age should be 17 years on or before 31st December of the year of admission.
  • He/She should have passed 12th standard examination under 10+2 system of Maharashtra State Higher Secondary Education Board or an equivalent examination of any recognized Indian Board/University with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English individually as subjects with a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology.He/she should have passed Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English all in one & the same attempt.
  • Candidates belonging to Scheduled castes, Scheduled Tribes including V.J., N.T. and O.B.C should have obtained not less than 40% of total aggregate marks in Physics. Chemistry and Biology taken together in the qualifying examination. He/she must have passed Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English in one and the same attempt.
  • No rounding off of the marks obtained by the candidate in qualifying examination will be done.

Entrance Examination

A competitive entrance examination shall be conducted by the Institute at Delhi, Nagpur, Hyderabad and Mumbai centers generally on third Sunday of April

Pattern of Entrance Examination

The competitive Entrance Examination consists of two papers:

Paper 1
  • Multiple choice, single response questions on Physics, Chemistry & Biology.
  • Number of questions -60 per each subject.
  • OMR sheet valuation.
  • Each correct answer will fetch one mark.
  • No negative marking for wrong answers.
  • Duration of paper will be of 180 minutes.
Paper 2 (The Gandhian thoughts)
  • Carry 60 marks
  • Duration three hours.
  • The questions will be of essay type and/or short answer questions and the paper may be answered either in English or Hindi
Syllabus
  • The general standard of the examination will be that of 12th standard examination for Physics, Chemistry and Biology as per CBSE and Maharashtra Board.
  • Gandhian Thought Paper will be on the topics as per the syllabus

Merit assessment

Merit shall be determined on the basis of aggregate marks obtained by the Candidate in the Entrance Examination in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Gandhian Thought.

Gandhian Thought

The candidates should obtain at least 40% marks in paper II

Competitive entrance Examination

The candidate must secure not less than 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together for general Category and 40% for Reserved Category

There is no payment seat.

Duration of course

5 ½ years including Internship.

Code of Conduct

Students admitted to the Institute are expected to:

(i) lead simple life (ii) wear khadi clothes (iii) take vegetarian meals (iv) eschew smoking, drinking alcohol and taking any other intoxicants (v) participate in community prayer, shramdan (voluntary labour) and such other activities as may be prescribed from time to time.

Residing in the hostels of the Institute is compulsory for all students.
