Eligibility for JEE (Advanced) - 2016

Eligibility for JEE (Advanced) - 2016

There are five important criteria listed below, failing in any one of them will disqualify the aspirant from procuring a seat in the colleges under JEE (Advanced) 2016.

JEE Main 2016: Candidates have to appear for Paper - I of JEE (Main) - 2016. Only top 2,00,000 candidates (including all categories) out of the qualifying candidates in Paper - I of JEE (Main) - 2016 will be eligible to appear for JEE (Advanced) - 2016. Distribution of top 2,00,000 candidates across various categories is as follows:
    Top 1,01,000 (50.5 %) Common Merit List
Top 54,000 (27%) Other Backward Classes-Non creamy layer OBC (NCL)
    Top 30,000 (15 %) Scheduled Caste (SC)
    Top 15,000 (7.5 %) Scheduled Tribe (ST)
3% of the total candidates in each category are reserved for PD candidates as per GoI norms

Age Limit: Candidates of GE and OBC categories must have been born on or after October 01, 1991 and those of SC, ST and PwD categories must have been born on or after October 01, 1986.

Number of attempts at JEE (Advanced) - 2016: An aspirant can attempt JEE (Advanced) maximum twice in consecutive years. So students who have appeared for the JEE (Advanced) 2015 for the first time are also eligible to appear for JEE (Advanced) 2016.

Appearance in Qualifying examination (QE - Class-XII or equivalent)
Aspirants who have written their QE in the year 2015 or appearing for QE in the year 2016 ONLY are eligible to appear for JEE (Advanced) - 2016.

    • Aspirants who had attempted their QE in 2015 and are reappearing in 2016 (either because they want to improve in or because they failed in some subjects), have to reappear for ALL subjects.
    • Aspirants who had attempted for their QE in the year 2014 or earlier CANNOT appear in JEE (Advanced) - 2016, even if they qualify in Paper - I of JEE (Main) - 2016. However, if the results of these students were declared by the respective board after June 2014, they are eligible to appear for JEE (Advanced) 2016.

Aspirants who have taken admission earlier

Aspirants who have taken admission at any of the IITs or ISM Dhanbad, (irrespective of whether or not they are continuing in the respective programmes) or accepted the admission by reporting at any of the reporting centres in the past, are NOT ELIGIBLE to appear in JEE (Advanced) - 2016. The aspirants whose admission at IITs or ISM was cancelled are also NOT eligible.

    • Students who have been admitted to a preparatory course in any of the IITs for the first time in 2015 can appear in JEE (Advanced) 2016.
    • Likewise, the aspirants who have paid seat acceptance fee, but not accepted the seat by reporting at the reporting centre during joint seat allocation in 2015 are also eligible.
