About NITs

NITs and other related institutions

National Institutes of Technology

There are 31 NITs spread across India, in various states. The NITs at Surathkal, Warangal, Trichirapalli, Calicut are among them. Till 2012 admission to these reputed institutes was through a national entrance examination called All India Engineering Entrance Examination(AIEEE). But later AIEEE is rechristened as JEE MAIN from 2014. It is the first part of the JEE that caters to the admissions into NITs and IIITs. The rank list is put up based on formula - 40% weightage to normalised Class XII board marks(or other qualifying examination) + 60% weightage to the score obtained in the JEE MAIN Examination.

Admissions to IITs,NITs,IIITs and other GFTIs are being conducted on a common platform - Joint Seat Allocating Authority (JoSAA) 2016,set up by Ministry of Human Resources Development - to manage and regulate the joint seat allocation for admissions to 92 institutes for the academic year 2016-17. This includes 23 IITs, ISM, 31 NITs, 20 IIITs and 18 Other-Government Funded Technical Institutes (Other-GFTIs). Admission to all the academic programs offered by these Institutes is being made through a single platform from the year 2015.

For those qualified in both JEE (MAIN) 2016 and JEE (ADVANCED) 2016, all choices are available.For those qualified only in JEE (MAIN) 2016, choices are restricted to programmes available in NITs, IIITs and Other-GFTIs.
