CRICKET

Australia-Pakistan Test Series in UAE

Pakistan thrashed Australia 2-0 to win the two-test series. Pakistan’s Misbah-ul-Haq scored the fastest 50 in Test cricket and equalled the record for quickest century. He reached 50 in 21 balls on the fourth day of the second Test against Australia, eclipsing Jacques Kallis of South Africa who took 24 balls in 2005. The Pakistan captain went on to match the 56-ball century mark set by West Indies legend Vivian Richards in 1986.

Advani is World Billiards Champion

King of Indian cue sports Pankaj Advani added yet another jewel to his glowing crown, outplaying former champion Peter Gilchrist in the 150 up points format World Billiards Championship final and pocket his 11th world title at Leeds, England. Currently, he is the holder of three different world titles in 2014 – the IBSF World 6-Red Snooker title, the World Team Billiards title and now the World Billiards Championship (point format), an unprecedented record in itself.

Para-swimmer Sharath Gayakwad scripted history at the Asian Para-Games in Incheon, South Korea, by winning six medals to go past sprint legend P. T. Usha’s record of most medals (5 medals at the 1986 Asian Games) by an Indian in a multi-discipline event.

Sharath began his campaign by winning a silver medal in the 200m Individual Medley event. He followed it up by winning bronze medals in 100m butterfly, 100m breaststroke, 100m backstroke, and the 50m freestyle.

Finally, Sharath, along with teammates Prasanta Karmakar, Swapnil Patil and Niranjan Mukundan, won another bronze medal in the 4x100m Medley Relay.
