Learn how quickly can you convert from percentages to fractions to degrees ( Pie chart). param : It all depends on how many qns you are getting stuck when you solve. A day or two is too long and 25-30 mins may be too short a time to give up. While there is no standard time that can be defined, if you cannot a clue at all then you should look at the answers in 15-20 mins and analyse why the clue did not strike you. Is it because your concepts are not yet clear or the qn was too tough for you. Toughness is a relative concept and you should check with a few friends if they were able to solve those tough qns. This will give you clue as to where you stand.

No compromise here. Cover especially the areas hitherto not covered and any weak areas/subjects. Also, read that grammar book u'd wanted to read and were supposed to read by now...V102, the Study material...it's now or never. For Vocab, go through all the words in the list(the last ) provided by Norman in his book, Word Power Made Easy and revise the words in the flash cards. Before u take Aimcat , evaluate ur performance so far(do it at least now, please,) and based on that develop that cat-strategy u've always wanted to develop. Start putting it into practice from aimcat and don't forget to evaluate ur performance and make changes in ur strategy accordingly. and the first week of september: Focus on strengthening your weak areas! the second to fourth week of september: Now is the time for tests, tests and tests only. Take timed tests, mocks or whichever tests available as follows: Take one RC test and one VA test every three days, though not necessarily on the same day and not on the aimcat day. That means, 4 tests a week(2 RC and 2 VA) in addition to aimcat. Most importantly, do micro analysis of ur performance sharpen ur cat-strategy and put it into practice in the aimcat. The tests need to be both online and paper and pencil tests... Work separately on areas or question types u identify as weak areas etc. Especially, focus on the Critical Reasoning/Reasoning type of questions. Finally, there should not be a question type u may decide/want to leave untouched in the CAT--that's the final target. the first and second week of October: A revision of all the aimcats and any other full length tests, past or present, and that includes revising the past cat papers. param : It is impossible to answer how many verbal qns you should attempt too get 99%le. I suggest that you do not ignore others verbal qns like Vocab, Grammar, Para jumbles and para jumbles. If you are good in RC then para jumbles and completion should be possible for you. Gramar is only a set of rules. Some rules and a feel and choosing options can help you solve many grammar qns. High 80%le should translate into the 90`s maybe even 95%le. But if you want 99%le then focus on all verbal qns,.

bharat : Unlike last year, this time the importance of application ratings ( academic profile ) has been drastically reduced. Last year 30% of the weightage for shortlisting was for this parameter, where as this time it is merely a minimum eligibility norm. There is "NO" weightage for academic performance of a candidate. Moreover the minimum application rating points requirement has been kept at a pretty moderate level, which would be easily met even by an average student. The min eligibility CAT 2014 cutoffs have been increased by 5 percentile points for everyone except general category students. The shortlisting of candidates ( who meet the min eligibility norms mentioned above ) for the PI round will be based on CAT 2014 performance alone. The weightages during the final selection have changed. This year the candidates will be selected based on their composite score. Composite Score = 0.50 (Normalized PI Score) + 0.10 (Normalized Academic Written Test Score) + 0.40 (Normalized CAT Total Score). Work experience remains absent as a selection parameter this year too.

As you have rightly pointed out, the number of questions have increased(60 to 100) at a higher rate than the increase in time(140 mins to 170 mins). Yet, I believe it will be advantageous to you as with the increase in the number of overall questions, we can hope for the easier questions to increase. Strategy to score high will be solve as many easy questions as possible and if possible stay away from the difficult ones.

param : The difficulty level of DI in aimcats is higher. Stage 1, try and solve the aimcat DI qns at home without any time restriction. If you are able to solve the qns then you are on a good wicket, YR approach is okay but speed has to be brought up. This comes by practice. But if you are not able to solve the qns even with time then you do not understand DI very well. Consult yr DI faculty with a few specific qns and the teacher may be able to spot yr weakness.

govindrajan : The class room hand outs expose you to questions of different difficulty levels. Ex (a) is easier as compared to ex(b). If you observe you will notice that the basic concepts remain the same, but you should look at how to apply them in each question.

param : Yes you have sufficient time. Go through the cue cards given to you. First, go through every card and find out how many words you already know. Then look at words that are familiar to you but did not know the meaning. If you do this ,, it is a big step Next look at the words you never heard of and check the meaning. If in yr judgement you feel that some of these words may be in common use, then only those. You should be okay.

param : YOu seem to be doing all the right things. Whenever yr score varies drastically between two aimcats analyse why. You will definitely get some clues- maybe some type of qns are problematic for you, in some topics concepts may not be clear or it was a silly mistake, Analysis should help you.

In education theory there is something called a learning plateau- the longer you study lower the absorption. You can try and read some books- this will improve yr verbal skills. If you still want to study more I would suggest that you do in two slots once in the morn and once in the eve.

Also, if you are a beginner, finish students' companion first...................................................VOCAB-DEVELOPMENT TIPS: Tip One: ATTEND ALL THE VOCABULARY CLASSES. Do never miss the opportunity to learn new and difficult but very important words under the expert guidance of the faculty. Every vocabulary class should be the starting point of a learning session in your preparation for CAT. Tip two: READ A LOT! Most words can be learned from context. The more you read, the more words you shall get exposed to and the more words you get exposed to the better vocabulary you will have. Hence, read, read and read. Pay especially close attention to unfamiliar words while reading. Look, as to what the context is and try to guess the meaning. (DO NOT, AT THIS POINT, REFER TO THE DICTIONARY.) Go ahead and complete the reading matter and then, you may refer to the dictionary. Well, then, read a LOOOOOOOOT! Tip Three: REFER: Well, I mean, you must refer to the dictionary for the meanings of the new words you came across. Now, if possible make a note of the words, their primary meanings, secondary meanings and especially their contextual usage. Refer to any Advanced Learner’s Dictionary. Tip Four: LEARN: This is a technique that I gathered from my twelve-year experience as an English lecturer. Really, a sincere effort to learn the meanings of the difficult words we made note of along with their usage DOES HELP. Tip Five: REPEAT: Only learning the words, their meanings and usage won't help because there’s the danger of forgetting. Our memory is short-lived, unless, of course, we make efforts to counter this. One method is to repeat the words as many times as possible during the period immediately after learning them. I read about a research which said that if one repeats a word 10 to 15 times, it will never be forgotten. So, repeat by using it general conversations, by writing the word in sentences, by conducting self-memory-tests, by making flash cards of your own. Tip Six: Take the help of Vocabulary development books. There are quite a few vocabulary books in the market. The ones that I recommend are: STUDENTS’ COMPANION by Wilfred D Best or RUPA’S ENGLISH MANUAL by Rupa publications (for those who believe they need to begin at the basics); WORD POWER MADE EASY by Norman Lewis (for those who believe vocabulary is boring and also for those who believe they past the basic stage); ALL ABOUT WORDS by Maxwell Nurnberg, Morris Rosenblum (there are many more books by these two authors) and INSTANT VOCABULARY by Ida Ehrlich (for a very systematic approach to the learning of words). Tip Seven: Play Vocabulary Development Games: Yes, games do help. Browse the net for the games, select the ones that suit your level and enjoy learning words like never before.
