ankur : The brave aspirants who gave their CAT on the first day were happy to note that CAT did not spring any surprises at them, as far as the pattern of the paper is concerned. With regards to the composition of the paper itself, many students felt that the paper was doable, in the moderate level of difficulty. We are yet to come across people who said it was way too challenging.

uppasala : Sir AIMCATs (as per every website analysis, and every student who gave his reviews based on his/her slot) are far away from CAT pattern. AIMCATs are about lengthy questions but CAT is about elegant and dicey question. Any comments ?
ankur : do you know what will CAT give you? if yes, then why give AIMCATs? only prepare those questions that CAT will give you! and if you do not know what CAT will give you, then how do you know that AIMCATs are far and away??? even if the AIMCATs are far and away, they are a good way to judge RELATIVE ranking of people....which is what is a percentile all about.

ankur : i suggest that more than worrying about studying without a plan, u give a few mocks and then analyse them. that will give u a study plan. check the SHP for the way to analyse mocks.

ankur : despite this seemingly "low" profile, please remember that a huge weightage is given to CAT score, GD/Essay and PI. so u have a very very good chance, if u focus on CAT studies!

madhu : sir, how many rough sheets are initially provided for doing calculations at actual cat exam..is the size of paper is same which was given to us on our invigilated aimcat exam.. is more sheets are provided if requested at the actual exam.
ankur : they give 4 pages which means 8 sides. no extra provided even if request. u have eraser on the back of the pencils....so u run out of paper u can always erase and start over!

cherian : 95%ile should get you calls from a few good institutes in top 20. you can opt for operations as one of your specializations. NITIE which is an ops focused campus had a cut off of 97+ last year. so try to get closer to the 98%ile mark

gautam : You should apply in Bands. The first Band of schools should be those which seem just out of reach given your current performance. The second Schools which you have a realistic chance in and the third are those below what you can get given your current performance. This way you will be protected whichever side of the average your performance varies on the given day.

kishore : i focused on LR and now i get min of 7 out of 9 in a difficult paper.in the last few aimcats i started attempting RC's .though attempts were less i got them accurate .i got 4 out of 4 in one,5 out of 6 in one.should i continue my effort to focus on RC's .i think that RC +LR will be a min of 15 questions and i'm thinking to get atleast 12 out of them right and focus on other parts.Is this a good strategy to have?

asim : Except for the section on Logical Reasoning, all the other sections of NMAT get well covered with a good preparation for CAT. However, it would be advisable for a student to work on his/her speed mathematics as some of the questions under Data Interpretation tend to be calculation intensive. Also, 120 questions in120 minutes means that the candidate needs to be really quick in solving the questions. The questions in reasoning section of NMAT are: · Series, Analogies, Odd man out, Coding & Decoding, and Symbols & Notations · Analytical puzzles (Linear arrangement, Circular arrangement, Distribution, Comparisons and Selections) · Critical reasoning (Assumptions, Conclusions, Inferences, Strong & Weak arguments, Courses of action, Cause & Effect, Assertions and Reasons, Deductions, Input / Output, and Decision Making). The CAT students have received the reasoning Study Material - SM 1001408 and SM1001417(both with solutions). SM 1001417 covers the topics - Series, Analogies, Odd man out, Coding & Decoding, and Symbols & Notations. These topics were introduced to the CAT students in Logic Basics - 2 (LAHO 1001402). One can quickly get thorough with these topics by solving the exercises from SM 1001417. Particularly the questions based on Coding & Decoding and Symbols & Notations test the speed of the students. SM 1001408 has one exercise for each of the topics in analytical puzzles. There was a thorough discussion of each of these kind of puzzles in Logic Basics - 1 (LAHO 1001401) and in LAPEs and LATs. Among the critical reasoning topics, Assumptions, Conclusions, Inferences, and Strong & Weak arguments were discussed in LR classes for CAT students. For the topics, Courses of Action, Cause & Effect, and Assertions & Reasons, if the students want to refer to some extra material apart from the T.I.M.E. Material, he / she can take the help of Critical Reasoning book authored by M.K. Pandey. The questions based on deductions are different from the deductions questions given in CAT. These questions need to be solved using Venn Diagrams. For these questions and Input / Output & Decision Making questions, students can refer to the reasoning book authored by R.S. Aggarwal. However, these extra materials should be referred to only after the student has exhausted the T.I.M.E. Material. Finally, T.I.M.E.’s OMETs for NMAT are perhaps the best source for preparation.They come very close to the actual NMAT entrance exam paper and one should give maximum importance to these question papers as they give sufficient exam practice to the candidates. The candidates can accustom themselves to the NMAT pattern by taking these mocks.

So, focus on doing well in the test first... you CERTAINLY can make it to a very good school if you sustain this performance. kapilbhandari : For IIMs 99+ percentile means you stand a good chance (if your sectionals are also good). The more consistent the score in sections the better it is (min 95+ would be better) SPJAIN asks for 95+ even for non profile based, so not to worry. Just focus on your prep, relax and give your best.

gautam : Start reading. You have been given enough reading material from T.I.M.E. On your SHP too there are links to reading material. Reading will help you in your RC and will also improve your vocab. When you read try and write down the summary for the same. This will show you if you have understood the article or not and will be beneficial when answering the RC questions. Start out with this and in a few months you will notice the difference yourself.

cherian : typically people from an engineering background and some experience are preferred for operations profiles. you can opt for finance and still go to work for a good logistics company.
