ramratnam : In extempore speaking they ask you to speak on a topic without prior preparation(however, usually they give a minute or more to think). In a psychometry test they give you a random set of questions that test you on your 'enthusiasm and initiative', focus, gregariousness, honesty, leadership, teamwork, planning, patience, maturity, etc. Take care while answering.

viveknair : In a 20 minute GD with 8 candidates, avg time is 2.5 mins per person. That translates to about 4 entries of 40 to 50 secs per entry. But you must make sure that you bring a new perspective or additional info. For all candidates with less than 2 yrs of work ex, tech questions are quite likely.

tssmurty : Mayank, it depends on how many calls you received. If you received call from all IIMs, you will try to convert at least one of the older ones. If you got a mix also it is the same case. If you got only for the new ones, you stand a chance only for the newer ones. So it all depends on the calls you received.

This means that you have to write what is rational, acceptable, logical and balanced. Often what we accept may not necessarily be sensible. sunil : IF anyone was trying to ignore another candidate or not let anyone speak then it is a very negative thing in a GD, so others would have been considered negatively in this case. However, you may need to raise your voice a little to intervene in such cases, but remember to be polite and professional.

For your English preparation(assuming that you are a T.I.M.E. student): - start going through the grammar book (V102) - a little a day. try to understand. look at the examples. Things understood - look for applications of these in the reading done daily. Mark off things that are not clear or that leave you in doubt - so as to seek clarifications in the relevant classes. Try the exercises in the SMs, a few pages each week, even if relevant classes haven't happened yet. Mark answers in pencil, so as to erase later. The ones you get right will spur your interest. What you get wrong will cause you to listen carefully and raise doubts in class. As relevant classes are taken, erase earlier marks and try again. Make a plan for each week. This will give your prep focus and direction. Evaluate at the end of the week to see if there's anything left undone in that plan. Build the unfinished into the plan for the ensuing week. Classes - Don't miss any classes. In class, pay attention, attempt the tasks set, raise doubts if any, participate in discussions. viveknair : Sure you can. But opinions must be backed with facts. They should have a rational basis. Try to say so in a mock PI and see the response. Also, you should be able to handle a stress interview if it comes to that.

asim : My dear, average means some have more than that amount of work ex and some have less that also. A sizeable number of students who make it to IIMs have "0" work ex.

tssmurty : Try Welingkar, TAPMI -- Around 50 percentile(a huge number of people were shortlisted for the GDPI stage, where in GD was an elimination stage, almost 40% were eliminated at this stage, IFMR -- Around 80 Percentile(Few profile based calls have been given to people with lesser percentile)

asim : Yes, you can apply with XAT scores also.

viveknair : You should avoid naming people without permission. But your company alone is not representative enough of the entire IT industry. Are you sure this happens everywhere? You will have to justify that in order for the argument to be accepted

deepak : The fact that you got a call suggests that your profile was ok for the iims to shortlist. It now depends on you to give them reasons to select you in way of good gd essay and pi performance
