Tamilnadu Engineering Admissions


Tamilnadu Engineering and medical admissions were made on the basis of Tamilnadu Professional Courses Entrance Examination (TNPCEE) conducted by Anna university on behalf of the Government of Tamilnadu till the year 2006. The performance in the TNPCEE was combined with the performance in the Class 12 Board Examination to arrive at a "cut-off" which was used to determine the rank of the students. But from 2007 onwards the admission to the Engineering courses are made purely based on marks of qualifying examinations recognized by Government of Tamilnadu, under the unified Single Window Admission System. As the admission process is a sole discretion of the Government of Tamilnadu, it is subject to change every year.

2. Engineering colleges under Directorate of Technical Education, Tamilnadu.
    A) Category I:-
    • Government/Government aided engineering Colleges
    B) Category II:-
    • Self supporting courses in Government aided engineering Colleges
    • Seats surrendered by Self financing Engineering colleges
3. Bharatidasan Institute of Technology, Trichy
4. Central Electrochemical Research Institute, Karaikudi

A candidate under open categoryneeds to put in a single application form for all the above courses.

Courses and Duration

BE/B.Tech - 4 Academic years
BE (Sandwich) - 5 Academic years (Industrial training is included)

ELIGIBILITY RULES

I.Nativity

(a) Candidate belonging to TAMILNADU

  • Tamilnadu candidates with schooling in Tamilnadu from VIII onwards
  • Tamilnadu candidates with schooling outside Tamilnadu from VIII onwards provided they produce valid Nativity certificate.
  • Other state candidates with schooling in Tamilnadu from VIII onwards-Eligible under open quota
  • Children of Central government employees/private or public,Government recognized institutions ,not domicile of Tamilnadu but working in Tamilnadu continuously for the past 5 years at the time of submission of application- Eligible under open quota.
(b) Other state candidates (Admitted by Anna University)

Candidate should be an Indian citizen, but not belonging to Tamilnadu.

II. Qualifying Examinations
  • A Pass in HSC or its equivalent.
  • A pass in HSC (vocational Stream) with Engineering/Technology vocational subjects and one of related subjects like Physics, Chemistry/Mathematics.
  • Any other equivalent qualification approved by the Higher Secondary Board of Tamilnadu/AnnaUniversity.
III. Minimum Eligible marks

    (a) For Tamilnadu candidates

   As prescribed for Tamilnadu candidates under SC/ST for SC/ST Categories and other communities for all other candidates.

IV.Admission to Marine Engineering Branch
  • A pass in 10+2 or equivalent with 60% mark for P,C,M and 50% mark for English at 10th or 12th standard for all communities.
  • Age maximum 20 years
  • Admission only for unmarried Indian male candidates.
V. Admission to Mining Engineering Branch
  • Female candidates are not eligible
ALLOCATON OF SEATS
  1. The candidates belonging to Tamilnadu only will be considered for communal reservation
  2. A few seats in BE/B Tech in Anna University ,Chennai are reserved for other state candidates (52 seats as per 2007 admission notification)- one seat is specially reserved for Kashmiri migrant.
  3. There are seats allocated under special categories like physically challenged/Handicapped, Children of Ex servicemen/Freedom fighter etc.
MODE OF SELECTION
  1. Admission to General Category

    • Based on marks of prescribed subjects in qualifying examination.
    • Marks will be reduced to a base of 200 (mathematics -100,Physics+Chemistry -100)
    • Normalization of marks and inter-Se merit

      Marks obtained by each candidate of various qualifying examinations /Boards are equated with that of Tamilnadu State Board by adopting the method of normalization.

      In case where more than one candidate have got the same mark in common list inter se-merit will be determined as per

      1. Percentage of mark in mathematics
      2. Percentage of mark in Physics,
      3. Percentage of mark in fourth optional subject
      4. Date of Birth.
      5. Random number assigned.

  2. Admission to vocational Stream candidates

    • No seats in Anna University
    • Total 700 seats in colleges under DOTE
    • Ranking will be done similar to general category. The academic marks in the prescribed subjects will be reduced to a base of 200 (Related subject 100 marks, vocational subject including theory and practical 100 marks)
    • Separate ranking & counseling

  3. Admission to Sandwich courses

    The sandwich courses are offered by PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore under self financing scheme.
    Branches - Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics & Production Engineering.
Counseling of candidates

Candidates will be called for counseling in the order of their merit.
