- Always try to follow standard books, stress on understanding things than memorizing them.
- Solve objective type (especially numerical type) questions as much as possible.
- Practice is a must and should be rigorous as well as done side by side with the theory. Practice the problems and see that you understand how the formulas are applied. This is important.
- No need to cover the entire syllabus.Try to prioritize the list of topics with higher weight-age in GATE. Strengthen your concepts & problem solving skills in such topics.
- Try to adopt short-cut techniques to save the time since traditional methods to solve numerical problems may take longer time.
- Keep preparing your personal notes as you cover topics/Try to prepare your own notes after studying a topic. Initially it may appear to be time consuming but it will be useful in revising the topics at final stage.
- Prepare the list of important definitions, equations, derivations, theorems, laws in every subject.
- Do not practice questions in rough. You may need to see the solutions at the time of revision.
- Go through previous year papers (say last 10 years) to check your knowledge and note the distribution of different topics.Always try to solve the papers in given time to get a clear idea about how many questions you are able to solve within the prescribed time limits.
- Revision is one of the most important steps of the preparation process (around 20 days before examination).
- Take a chill-pill on the day before exam. Relax!!!!!!!!!!
- Do not make any guesses in the paper. If possible, try to eliminate the choices by minimum calculation/analysis.
