  1. Can you tell me something about TISS Mumbai?

  2. The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was established in 1936 as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work. In 1944, it was renamed as the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. The year 1964 was an important landmark in the history of the Institute, when it was declared Deemed to be a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act (UGC), 1956.

    Since its inception, the Vision of the TISS has been to be an institution of excellence in higher education that continually responds to changing social realities through the development and application of knowledge, towards creating a people-centred, ecologically sustainable and just society that promotes and protects dignity, equality, social justice and human rights for all.

  3. As we want to pursue MBA program and make a career in management, can you tell me which program of TISS Mumbai should we apply to ?

  4. TISS Mumbai's MA in HRM and LR is the only program, which industry teats as equivalent of a MBA ( HR ) program. The other programs are also good, but they are unlike the MBA programs and must be opted only if you are interested in making a career in that domain.

  5. How good is TISS Mumbai's MA in HRM and LR program?

  6. T.I.M.E. counts it among the AAA grade B-schools. It is one of the best HRM programs in India.

  7. What is the eligibility criteria for applying for TISS-NET 2017?

    1. Candidates having a bachelor's degree with minimum of 3 years duration or its equivalent ( under the 10+2+3 or 10+2+4 or 10+2+2+1 year bridge course pattern of study or any other pattern fulfilling the mandatory requirements of 15 years formal education) from a recognized university are eligible to apply

    2. At the time of applying candidates studying in 3 year degree program should have passed in all the subjects from the 1st to 4th semesters and candidates studying in 4 year degree program should have passed in all the subjects from 1st to 6th semester.

    3. Only those Candidates who will be able to complete all the requirements of their final year Bachelor's Degree examinations by Monday, June 10, 2017 are eligible to apply.

    Note- Apart from this, it would be advisable for an applicant to check program specific eligibility criteria before applying to any program.

  8. When is TISS NET 2017 examination scheduled to be conducted ? When is the last date for applying for it?

  9. TISS NET examination will be conducted on Jan 7, 2017.

  10. What is the cost of application form?

    • The application fees is Rs.1030 (if being payed by Credit card/ Debit card/ Net Banking) or Rs.1000 + bank charges (if being payed through bank by cash). Candidate has to pay this amount for every programme he/she applies for.

    • Unemployed candidates, whose parent’s/guardian’s annual income from all the sources for the Financial Year 2015-16 is less than Rs.2.5 Lakhs for SC/ST and Rs.1 lakh for OBC(NC) are required to pay Rs.250/- as Concessional Application Fee for each programme. However they should upload the necessary certificates.

    Date- Jan 7, 2017 ( Saturday )

    Time- 2 pm to 3.40 pm

    Duration - 100 minutes

    Type of Examination - Objective type

    TISS-NET 2017 Pattern

    Section Weightage
    Maths and Logical Reasoning 30 marks
    English Proficiency 30 marks
    General Awareness 40 marks
    Total 100 marks

    TISS-NET 2017 will not have negative marking.

  13. What is the selection criteria for admission into MA programs of TISS?

  14. The selection of candidates for different programmes happens in two stages and has three components of assessment. All candidates appear for the National entrance test (TISS NET). Based on the performance in the TISS NET examination, only short listed candidates are called for the Pre Interview Test and Personal Interview.(PIT/PI)

    The final selection is based on the following parameters

  15. In cities will PIT/PI rounds be conducted?

  16. Pre-Interview Test (PIT) / Personal Interview (PI) will be held in Mumbai, Hyderabad and Guwahati.

  17. What is intake of MA in HRM and LR program?

  18. 60 seats at Mumbai and 30 seats at Hyderabad.

  19. Does TISS follow policy of reservation?

  20. Yes, is provides 15%, 7.5% and 27% reservation to Scheduled Caste, Schedule Tribe and Other Backward Classes (non-creamy layer) for each of the programmes. In addition, supernumerary seats are allocated to Persons With Disabilities (PWD) {3%} , Kashmiri migrants {1%} and children of the Armed Forces Employees {5%}.
