About MAT

About MAT

MAT is conducted by Centre for Management Services (CMS) which is the specialized division of AIMA undertaking testing and other management services. Graduate or Final year degree course students in any discipline from a recognized university in India can write MAT. MAT scores are considered by a wide range of B-schools including some good B-schools. While some of the B-Schools using MAT scores for admission also accept CAT scores, the competition levels in MAT may be lower than those in CAT.

A large number of colleges (around 400 colleges) base their admission through MAT. While a few good B-Schools under MAT are listed below, students are advised to take expert guidance in the matter of selecting / applying to B-Schools that take MAT.

  • Great Lakes Institute of Management, Chennai
  • XIME, Bangalore
  • ITM, Navi Mumbai
  • AMITY-Noida
  • CHRIST, Bangalore
  • BIMM, Pune
  • BIMTECH-Noida ( some programs )
  • SIES, Mumbai
  • IPE, Hyderabad
  • VJIM, Hyderabad
  • XISS, Ranchi
  • SSIM, Hyderabad

Other than these, there are a few other colleges in each region which would have a good placement track record.

You can refer to the TIME B-school categorization list for the relative grading of these B-schools.

Latest Test Pattern of MAT

The following is the test pattern of the MAT examination to be held in May 2017

  • No. of Sections - 5
  • No. of questions - 200
  • No. of questions for each section - 40
  • Time - 150 minutes

The consolidated score is evaluated by taking only four areas into account. Indian and global environment (gk) is not the part of the consolidated score. Hence, the scoring is done out of a maximum possible score of 160 marks (@1 mark for 160 qs). However, the score card (by AIMA) doesnot give the net marks. It gives the scaled score and the percentile in each and every section. It also gives the overall composite score and the overall percentile

Section No. Section Name No. of Questions Time Suggested(Minutes)
I Language Comprehension 40 30
II Mathematical Skills 40 40
III Data Analysis & Sufficiency 40 35
IV Intelligence & Critical Reasoning 40 30
V Indian & Global Environment 40 15
  Total 200 150

Negative marking of 0.25 marks per each incorrect response.
