Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), PUNE


The Armed Forces Medical College was formed at Pune on 01 May 1948 by the amalgamation of Army Medical Training Centre, the Army School of Hygiene, the Central Military Pathology Laboratory, the School of Blood Transfusion and Army School of Radiology. The college was initially housed in Eve’s Estate and later shifted to Connaught Barracks, the present location. The AFMC is affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Science, Nashik and is recognized by the Medical Council of India. Admission to MBBS course is based on written examination and interview

Eligibility- Academic Criteria

  • Must have passed Class XII or it’s equivalent in all subjects opted for in the first attempt
  • You should have taken subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English.
  • You must have an aggregate of 60% in all science subjects taken together and 50% in each of the science subjects and English
  • You must have passed an examination in Mathematics at the Matriculation level
  • If you are a BSc degree holder, you must have at least two subjects i.e. Physics, Chemistry or Biology (Botany or Zoology). At the Plus 2/XII level with an aggregate of 60% in all science subjects taken together and 50% in each of the science subjects and English
Other Eligibility Conditions

  • You should be medically fit and unmarried
  • Marriage during the course is not permitted
  • Candidates admitted to AFMC should serve as Commissioned Officers in Armed Forces Medical Services on graduation and tenure of the service will be seven years
  • All candidates admitted to the course must execute a bond to this effect for Rs 15lakhs at the time of joining the college.
  • Students removed from the service liability for any reason will have to pay the bond money as per the service conditions laid down by the Government of India
  • Age limit- between 17 and 22

Who cannot apply?

  • Candidates who have passed in Domestic Science, Domestic Arithmetic, Lower Mathematics separately or in combination with other subjects like General Science, Social Studies in their High school/Higher Secondary Multipurpose ( or an equivalent examination)
  • Candidates who have passed Pre-degree /pre-professional (one year) or pre-professional in Veterinary/ Dental/ Agriculture examination
  • Candidates who have passed pre-professional or it’s equivalent exam as a private candidate.

Part I Biology- 50 questions

Part II Chemistry- 50 questions

Part III Physics- 50 questions

Part IV General Knowledge, Intelligence, Logic& Reasoning- 25 questions

English Language & Comprehension- 25 questions

Exam duration- 2 hours, Negative marking 4:1
