Medical Laboratory Technology is a health profession which involves the diagnosis of diseases through the use of clinical laboratory tests. With accurate results doctors can detect, diagnose and treat diseases.
In a medical laboratory there are both Technicians and Technologists.
Medical technologists have more training and job responsibilities. They are often responsible for the accuracy of the tests conducted. They also conduct research work under the guidance of medical researchers.
Medical technicians work under Technologists or supervisors .They usually do routine laboratory testing manually according to instructions. Technicians set up, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment, basic preparations for use in the lab etc.

1. Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT)
2. Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Technology (BMLT)
3. M.Sc in Medical Laboratory Technology
During BMLT course for Medical Lab Technologists the students are trained for clinical Laboratory analysis of blood, urine, feces, cerebrospinal fluid, synovial fluid, ascetic fluid etc There are also Diploma / Certificate courses for lab technicians / assistants in general and in different specialties such as Diplomas in EEG Lab Technician, Histopathology Lab Technician etc. The Medical lab technology in India is regulated by the All India Institute of Medial Technologists and All India Medical laboratory Technologists Association.
