SIDDHA COURSES
Siddha, one of the oldest systems of medicine in
India was originated in Tamilnadu. It is practiced in Tamil speaking parts of
India. The literature of Siddha is in Tamil. The Siddha System is unique and is
therapeutic in nature. The treatment given is both forbody and mind and thereby
cures the root cause of the disease. Siddha medicine is preferred due to the
affordable cost, easy availability and it’s non-toxicity. Like Ayurveda, this
system believes that all objects in the universe including human body are
composed of five basic elements namely, earth, water, fire, air and sky.
The Central council of Indian Medicine regulates the education of Siddha
system in the country.
Courses and Duration
The Courses in Siddha medicine are offered only by Colleges in Tamilnadu and
Kerala. At present, there are seven Siddha institutions Offering UG/PG courses
in the country. Out of the seven, one Siddha Medical College is in the State of
Kerala,affiliated to the Kerala University and the rest are in Tamilnadu
affiliated to the Tamilnadu M.G.R University. Admissions are purely on the
basis of common entrance test conducted by the respective State Governments.

Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery (BSMS)
Eligibility for Colleges in Tamilnadu
A pass in the H S E / the Indian School Certificate examination /equivalent to
10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology.The candidate should have studied in
Tamil medium up to 10th /HSE/studied Tamil as a subject up to 10th
.Pass in English 60% for Biology,60% for Physics & Chemistry.Aggregate
should not be less than 140/200
Eligibility for Admission in Kerala:
Candidates must have passed Higher Secondary Examination (10+2 Course) or its
equivalent of the Board of Higher Secondary Education of the State or
Examinations recognized equivalent there to with 50% marks in Biology
separately and 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology put together.
Duration of the Course:
The Course is of 4'/2 years duration and one year Compulsory Rotatory Resident
Internship (CRRI)
