VETERINARY SCIENCE
Veterinary Science deals with the diagnosis, treatment and curing of diseases in
birds and animals of all kinds. It involves Animal husbandry, breed
improvement, livestock conservation, and poultry care etc. Though the course of
study of Veterinary science is quite similar to that of human medical sciences
the job of a Veterinarian is tougher than the job of a General medical
practioner.
A Veterinary doctor has to administer timely vaccination of pets and farm
animals thereby preventing diseases which are transmitted from animals to human
beings. At times Veterinary doctor has to conduct surgery also. The activities
of a Veterinarian indirectly affect the growth of agricultural sector of the
country. There is immense scope for research in this field which makes the
Vet’s profession more challenging.
The Veterinary Council of India regulates the Veterinary education and
practice in India. The VCI can recommend or withdraw recognition of veterinary
qualifications granted by veterinary institutions in India.
Admission to the courses run by Universities/Institutes is made through common
entrance tests, mostly along with other medical entrance examinations, set as
