(Chat Transcript)

misha : HELLO SIR, I AM NOT ABLE TO IMPROVE ON RCS. PLEASE SUGGEST SOMETHING. MY VERBAL SCORE IS VERY LOW.
ramachandran : Good reading will definitely help you. PLease read regularly. The Hindu, The Indian Express are just 2 examples of good reading material you can get on a daily basis

kshitij : SIR, I'VE BEEN PRACTICING RCS FOR A MONTH BUT MY ACCURACY IS STILL POOR. SUGGEST.
shivabhaskaran : Practise the RC passages in the homepage, it will help u to do questions with time line

kriti : HELLO SIR! FROM NOW ONWARDS HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD BE DEVOTED TO VA-RC PREPARATION ON A DAILY BASIS?
ramachandran : As much time as you possibly can without impacting your preparation in the other sections

r12 : HEY..TILL NOW I HAVE GIVEN 6 AIMCAT'S ND IN ALL OF THEM EM ABLE TO SOLVE LESS THAN 10 QA QUES.....PLEASE ADVICE ME WHAT I CAN DO
revanth : Hi R12. Wrong Chat. This is for VA RC.

madhusmita : GOOD EVENING,MY QUESTION IS MY INTERPRETATION OF THE RC PASSAGES IS NOT PROPER I M ALWAYS CONFUSED ..HEP ME SIR
gouri : hi.. what is it that you find confusing? the content or the questions?

neelima : MY SCORES IN VARC IS ALWAYS LESS THAN 35, COULDN'T IMPROVE. PLEASE ADVICE.
prajnanray : Talk personally with your VA FM at the centre and determine your specific course of action. Basically how to develop your basics and what to practise.

sambit : HELLO ESTEEMED FACULTY,
ramachandran : Hello. Please go ahead

san : HOW DO I APPROACH JUMBLED SENTENCES? I DO DECENT AMOUNT OF READING BUT WITHOUT OPTIONS CRACKING IT IS BECOMING INCREASINGLY DIFFICULT.
vikrant : Treat it as a Reasoning, Liner arrangement question. the only difference is that the clues are not mentioned, they need to be identified. So focus on looking for those words or ideas that help you connect two sentences together. Once you have identified enough such relationships, it should become easy.

hany1704 : MY AVERAGE SCORE ACROSS ALL AIMCAT'S HAS BEEN AROUND 100. I NEED TO CROSS THE 150 MILESTONE ASAP. PLEASE SUGGEST WHAT DO THE TOPPERS DO DIFFERENTLY THAT I'M MISSING OUT ON.
asim : Analyze your performance and figure out which areas are troubling you and work a lot on those areas. This kind of analysis and then follow up work is what toppers do.

student : IF ONE GOES THROUGH THE STUDY MATERIAL ( BOTH BASIC AND ADVANCED ) AND WORD POWER MADE EASY, IS THERE ANY NEED TO STUDY LEARN THE CUE CARDS FOR VA SECTION? PLEASE ANSWER THIS IN CONTEXT TO BOTH CAT AND OTHER EXAMS SUCH AS XAT, IIFT, NMAT ETC.
gouri : Cue cards are helpful in building Vocabulary... should at least give them a try.

neelima : WHICH BOOKS TO PRACTICE TO SCORE WELL IN VARC?
vikrant : Start with the TIME SM Booklets. Follow it with the section tests particularly the intermediate and advanced ones.

neelima : WHICH BOOKS TO PRACTICE TO SCORE WELL IN VARC?
gouri : Please practise from the study material

amrit : SIR, AIMCAT 1718 SCORE WAS 122 WITH ONLY 8 MARKS IN ENGLISH....PLEASE ANALYZE AND GUIDE
ramachandran : Please have a good look at your paper and ask yourself if the attempts were based on your knowledge and a good and judicious selection of questions. Work towards improving both.

acca6o068 : HI SIR, PLEASE GUIDE AS HOW TO DISTRIBUTE OUR TIME BETWEEN THE THREE AREAS. AS WE HAVE QT,LR,DI,VA. HOW SHOULD WE MANAGE?
prajnanray : For what or which test?

abhi : SIR WHAT SHOULD BE A PERFECT TIMETABLE FOR VA&RC NOW ONWARDS ?
revanth : Hi Abhi. This will be dependent on your AIMCAT Scores & Percentiles. It's always good to do two RCs on alternative days & questions related to VA & VR daily.

nit : HELLO SIR IN ALL AIMCATS CONDUCTED TILL NOW I AM NOT ABLE TO SCORE ATLEAST 50%ILE IN ANY SECTION SIR MY ACCURACY IS LOW ND DUE TO DAT I M LOW WID CONFIDENCE HOW CAN I IMPROVE SO DAT I CAN ATLEAST GET 80%ILE ND JUMP UP THE CUT OFF BARRIER TO GAIN SOME CONFIDENCE PLEASE SUGGEST SOMETHING AND PLEASE EHLP SIR
bharat : I think what's missing is the lack of sufficient practice. Please put in the required hard work, a great deal of practice and sustain both. A good performance will boost your confidence. Please take online sectional tests and AIMCATs.

r12 : CAN YOU STILL ANSWER MY QUES?
prajnanray : Practise more and more mock tests between AIMCATs

rb : SIR PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO TACKLE RC ON ARTS, CULTURE, LITERATURE AND PHILOSOPHY? WHAT NEED TO READ AND PRACTICE FOR THOSE?
ramachandran : Our material gives you an excellent collection of passages on these.

kxcc6y011 : HOW MANY NUMBER OF QUESTIONS IN VA AND RC SEPERSTELY NEEDS TO BE ANSWERED FOR A STANDARD SCORE?
vikrant : The answer depends on the difficulty level of the questions and thus varies from AimCAT to AimCAT and CAT to CAT.

kriti : SIR WHAT PERCENTILE SHOULD ONE AIM FOR IF ONE IS AIMING IIM-A?
shivabhaskaran : 99 plus, if u r in open category

kj : HELLO SIR IS NEWSPAPER ENOUGH FOR OUR VIA/RC SECTION ON DAILY BASIS?
swapnila : Not really.Apart from reading newspapers you also need to read on diverse topics. You could use the RC links uploaded on your homepage for the same.

sambit : HELLO SIR, I HAVE APPEARED AIMCAT TWO TIMES AND IN VERBAL ABILITY AND READING COPREHENSION SESSION, I ALWAYS ATTEMPT MORE NUMBER OF QUESTIONS BUT UNFORTUNATELY, THE RATIO BETWEEN CORRRECT ANSWERS TO WRONG ANSWERS BECOME 13/18 OR 11/15 ETC. HOW CAN I IMPROVE ON IT TO MAKE LESS WRONG ATTEMPTS IN COMPARISON TO CORRECT ATTEMPTS IN AIMCAT?
revanth : Hi Sambit. Initially pick lesser & easier questions. This will help you increase the accuracy. Once you gain your skills in differentiating between the options & your confidence, you can increase the number of attempts.

nit : SIR COMING TO READING HABITS I CONSISTENTLY RAD HINDU NEWSPAPERS EDITORIAL COLUMN FOR 7 MONTHS BUT IT DIDNT HELP MUCH SIR
gouri : It will help... you must read the News... Editorials will help to build your vocabulary also.

ananthi : HI SIR
ramachandran : Hello. Please go ahead

kxcc6s020 : HI..I AM FACING PROBLEM IN TITA PJ AND SENTENCE CORRECTION..HOW TO IMPROVE ON THAT
revanth : Hi. When you're looking at Para Jumbles in TITA, try & form the logical links. Noun Pronoun link is also useful. For Sentence Correction, please go through the Study Material for Grammar.

rahul : HELLO SIR, HOW TO IMPROVE ACCURACY IN RCS?
swapnila : This would depend on analysis of your RC performance. There could be multiple factors that could lead to a poor performance in RCs.These include : wrong choice of passages , difficulty in comprehending the passage, not being able to tackle a particular question type in RC.Based on the reason an appropriate suggestion can be made.

malay : SIR, PLEASE GIVE SOME TIPS TO IMPROVE ON PARA JUMBLES AS MOST OF MY PARAJUMBLES ARE ALWAYS WRONG
charlton : There are no choices provided, please make your own choices on the rough paper and solve. The remaining strategies include: Finding intro sentence, conclusion sentence, mandatory pairs based on keywords etc.

aimandacheive : HI, MY PERCENTILESIN THE LAST 3 AIMCATS WERE (98.11, 95.6 AND 85). I SCORED VERY BADLY IN THE LAST TEST. CAN I JUST TREAT IT AS AN ABERRATION OR IS THIS SOMETHING I NEED TO SERIOUSLY WORRY ABOUT?
revanth : Hi. Please review the AIMCAT properly & do the Question Wise & Sub Area wise Performance review properly. Don't lose motivation towards CAT due to one AIMCAT score. All the Best for the next one. I'm sure you'll do much better.

sim : HI I TAKE A LOT OF TIME IN READING THE PASSAGE AND ANSWERING THE QUESTIONS..WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM TIME I SHOULD GIVE PER PASSAGE IN AIMCATS? I TAKE ABOUT 10MINUTES PER PASSAGE TO READ AND ANSWER THEM.
revanth : Hi Sim. You should start Skimming & Scanning the passage instead of going through it for a long time. Give maximum time to differentiating between the options & slightly lesser time to reading the passage.

madhusmita : QUESTIONS CONFUSES ME
ramachandran : What questions?

rohan : SIR, MY RC SCORE IN THE FIRST AIMCAT WAS AROUND 18-20.BUT SUBSEQUENTLY,I HAVE MADE A HABIT OF SOLVING 5 RCS EVERYDAY.NOW IT HAS IMPROVED TO 45-50(IN THE RC PART OF VERBALSECTION).SIR,COULD U SUGGEST SOME WAYS TO TAKE THAT SCORE TO 60+ AS IMPROVEMENT RATE HAS NOW SLOWED DOWN.AND MY SECOND CONCERN IS PARAJUMPLES.HOW TO WORK ON THAT?
charlton : For RCs, read online from the Economist, New York Times, The Guardian, The Huffington Post, Frontline etc. For parajumbles, There are no choices provided, please make your own choices on the rough paper and solve. The remaining strategies include: Finding intro sentence, conclusion sentence, mandatory pairs based on keywords. Practice all question types in Verbal from TIME Material, Online sectional tests and AIMCATs.

san : IT IS OFTEN ASKED NOT TO INTERPRET A PASSAGE IF INFO IS UNAVAILABLE, BUT AS I REVIEW MY RC AIMCAT I FIND THAT INTERPRETATIONS HAVE BEEN MADE.
ramachandran : How the interpretations are made is very subtle. Please get a better "hold" of language by reading more and more

sijoy : HOW IMPORTANTN IS IT TO IMPROVE ON MY VOCABULARY AS THERE WERE MINIMAL QUESTIONS BASED ON VOCAB IN THE AIMCATS?
ramachandran : Vocab is like the backbone of any language and will need to be given importance accordingly.

kshitij : SIR WHAT IS THE KEY TO SHORTLIST THE RC IN THE AIMCATS. WHICH ONE IS TO BE DONE AT FIRST AND SO ON.
gouri : Attempt the ones you are confident of first...

r12 : HEY...IN SOME AIMCAT EM ABLE TO SOLVE ONLY TWO RC'S ND IN OTHERS NONE...WHAT U THINK...WHERE EM LACKING BEHIND?
prajnanray : Practice

rahul : SIR SHOULD WE ATTEMPT ALL THE RCS AND SHOULD WE ATTEMPT ALL QUESTIONS OF A RC?
charlton : You can first aim to attempt 4 out of the 5 RCs in about 40 min and keep 20 min for the 10 VA questions. Later on if your speed and accuracy both improve, you can do all 5 RCs. You may leave a question if you are not able to eliminate two wrong options at least.

chintoo : SIR , IM FACING A LOT OF DIFFICULTY WITH YOUR PARAKUMBLES AND ODD ONE OUT , HOW DO I IMPROVE IN THIS AREA
prajnanray : Practise more and more and more if you want to improve

chintoo : SIR , IM FACING A LOT OF DIFFICULTY WITH YOUR PARAKUMBLES AND ODD ONE OUT , HOW DO I IMPROVE IN THIS AREA
ramachandran : Please practise as much as you can. You will definitely see a significant inprovement

khushboo : SIR?MADAM,
prajnanray : Hi, what's your query?

a_man : SIR,SOMETIMES COMPARING BETWEEN TWO OPTIONS BECOMES A VERY TEDIOUS JOB IN RC AND ALSO CONFUSING ..HOW TO TACKLE THE SAME?
prajnanray : Find out the difference of the options and see it's impact on the question. Practise more and more.

monika : SIR, I THINK I HAVEN'T STARTED MY PREPARATION TILL NOW,SO FROM WHICH TOPIC I SHOULD START ? AND HOW MUCH TIME I SHOULD GIVE DAILY TO VA AND RC?
gouri : Please start immediately... you will figure out on your own how much time you need to devote to each section.

khushboo : I
prajnanray : Hi, what's your query?

sambit : I AM OF SC CATEGORY, HOW MUCH WEIGHTAGE I HAVE TO GIVE FOR RC AND VA AND HOW MANY SUCCESSFUL ATTEMPTS IN THIS SECTION WILL LEAD ME TO IIM CALLS? I HAVE SCORED 83% IN XTH AND 75% IN XIITH AND HAVE A GRADUATION CGPA OF 7.67
prajnanray : 10 corrects, 0 wrong

kj : WHAT IS THE CRITERIA FOR VA/RC
gouri : Criteria? as in?

don : WHAT NEWSPAPERS SHOULD I READ TO IMPROVE MY VOCABULARY?
charlton : For RCs, read online from the Economist, New York Times, The Guardian, The Huffington Post, Frontline etc. Word Power Made Easy - Norman Lewis - is also good for vocab building.

prateek : HELLO SIR/MA'AM , I STARTED READING NOVELS ... I CAN SEE MY RC'S GETTING BETTER .. 1) DO I NEED TO READ NEWSPAPER ?
gouri : Yes , please do...

bhanu : HELLO SIR, I HAVE SCORING GOOD IN ALL THE QUANT AND DI-LR SECTION BUT I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO CLEAR CUTOFF OF VA SECTION EVEN ONCE, PLEASE GUIDE ME HOW SHOULD ISTUDY IN COMING TIME
ramachandran : You are good in the other sections simply because of your accumulated knowledge in those areas. Would you not like the same thing to happen in this area too?

monika : SIR SHOULD I DO GRAMMAR BOOK FIRST OR THE VA BOOK OR DO BOTH SIMULTANEOUSLY, AS VERY LESS TIME IS LEFT.
revanth : Please give enough time to RCs as well. If the last year's pattern continues, RCs will be vital. Grammar & VA are also important but do keep a specified time for these two.

student : ARE CUE CARDS AND WORD POWER MADE EASY BOTH REQUIRED FOR VOCAB. IS WORD POWER MADE EASY AND STUDY MATERIAL PROVIDED ( EXCLUDING CUE CARDS) NOT ENOUGH?
gouri : Access as many sources as possible...

sambit : HI SIR , HOW TO EFFECTIVELY READ THE HINDU NEWSPAPER? ITS COMPOSED OF NEW AND DIFFICULT WORDS EVERYDAY. AND HOW TO REMEMBER THE DIFFICULT WORDS SO AS TO BOOST MY VOCABULARY SECTION AND HOW WILL IT HELP ME IN EXAMS IF I HAVE LESS MEMORY POWER?
swapnila : You could continue doing the above. But apart from the above it would help if you could use the root prefix suffix method to learn more words.Apart from this , going through a list of homophones and phrasal verbs would also help solve the word based questions in CAT.

don : WHICH NEWSPAERS SHOULD ONE READ TO IMPROVE VOCABULARY ?
gouri : any newspaper is fine.. try The Hindu

prateek : COULD YOU PLEASE SUGGEST SOME GOOD PRACTICE PLACES FOR PARAJUMBLES
charlton : For practice, read online from the Economist, New York Times, The Guardian, The Huffington Post, Frontline etc. and concentrate on the first paragraph. You can practise parajumbles from TIME Books, Online sectional tests, AIMCATs and past CAT PaPers available on your SHP.

swaraj : WHAT IS BETTER APPROCAH FOR RC'S FIRST READ QUESTION THEN ANSWER OR THE OTHER WAY AROUND?
swapnila : That would depend on your comfort zone and what works the best for you.

swaraj : WHAT IS BETTER APPROCAH FOR RC'S FIRST READ QUESTION THEN ANSWER OR THE OTHER WAY AROUND?
charlton : WHen you are practising for the CAT, you will read the passage first and then the questions. In the exam hall on CAT Day, go through the questions first and then read the passage.

khushboo : 1.I HAVE SOLVED SM BOOKLET OF VA BUT STILL NOT GAINING CONFIDENCE IN JUMBLED SENTENCES AND SO THE RESULTS ARE NOT GOOD IN AIMCAT.NEED SUGGESTION ON THIS.2.HOW TO DIVIDE TIME SLOT BETWEEN RC AND VA WHILE ATTEMPTING AIMCATS?
charlton : This query has been answered elsewhere in this chat. Please have a look.

prajnanray : 13-15 corrects and 0 wrong for general candidates

rudra : PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO TACKLE PASSAGES ON ARTS, PHILOSOPHY,CULTURE , LITERATURE.. CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME WHAT SHOULD I READ TO INCREASE MY SPEED AND ALSO UNDERSTANDING OF PASSAGE MORE QUICKLY.. I USED TO READ INDIAN EXPRESS..I AM JUST AIMCAT SERIES STUDENT THOUGH MY OVERALL PERCENTILE IS IN THE RANGE OF 96-98 BUT MY VA PERCENTILE IS NOT GETTING ABOVE 70..
prajnanray : Practise more and more questions of these subject areas. Talk to a VA FM personally

jonu : SIR, WHAT MATERIAL IS PREFERRABLE TO IMPROVE THE READING POTENTIAL UP TO THE BEST.
revanth : Hi Jonu. Please go through the Study Material of TIME.

naynika : RESPECTED SIR/MAM HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD I PRACTICE VA AND RC DAILY TO GET SOME GOOOD SCORES ? ARE THE TIME MATERIALS ENOUGH FOR CAT OR IS THERE ANY OTHER BOOK YOU WILL SUGGEST? AND SHALL I DO MY GRAMMER WITH WARN N MARTIN AND VOCAB WITH WORD POWER MADE EASY, WILL THEY HELP ?
ramachandran : RESPECTED SIR/MAM HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD I PRACTICE VA AND RC DAILY TO GET SOME GOOOD SCORES ? as much time as you possibly can

mayank : HELLO SIR,
prajnanray : Hi, What's your query?

wait_for_it : HI, DO WE NEED TO READ THE WHOLE PASSAGE IN RC OR ARE THERE ANY SPECIFIC LOCATIONS TO LOOK IN THE FIRST READING ?
revanth : Hi. Please use Skimming & Scanning rather than going through the entire passage in detail.

megha : SIR I THINK MY READING SPEED IS NOT UP TO THE MARK, I TAKE FAIRLY LONG TIME TO READ A PASSAGE. EVEN IF I HAVE STARTED READING A BIT,I CANNOT SEE ANY IMPROVEMENT. KINDLY HELP
prajnanray : Only practising more can help you

abhi : ANY GOOD MATERIAL OR WEBSITE FOR ESAAY PREPARTION ?

khushboo : HOW MUCH TIME DO WE NEED TO DEVOTE ON ONE PASSAGE?IF I READ PASSAGE IN LESS TIME THEN I AM NOT ABLE TO SOLVE THE QUESTIONS AND AFFECTS THE ACCURACY OF ANSWERS.
charlton : For now, upto 10 min for a passage with 6 questions and 6 min for a passage with 3 questions. Gradually reduce the time taken to solve.

r12 : PLEASE ANSWER MY QUERY
prajnanray : Answered

neel01 : IN AIMCAT1718, MY ACCURACY IN VERBAL WAS 61%. HOW CAN I TAKE IT TO 90%?
ramachandran : More knowledge , for one. Better selection of questions , for another.

sim : SIR, FOR OBC HOW MUCH MARKS SHOULD I GET IN VA & RC TO CLEAR THE CUTOFF?
ramachandran : Getting the maximum possible marks is always a good idea. Aim for the sky

prateek : COULD YOU PLEASE SUGGEST SOME GOOD NOVELS THAT I MUST READ TO BROADEN MY SCOPE FOR DIFFERENT TYPES OF RCS
shivabhaskaran : Editorials, articles on social events and causes, national and international level issues

nitin : SIR ON WHAT BASIS CUTOFFS ARE DECIDED? DOES EVERY COLLEGE HAS ITS OWN CUTOFF OR ISTHERE A COMMON CUTOFF ACROSS ALL THE COLLEGES?
shivabhaskaran : its different for different b schools

ajain : HELLO SIR...SHOULD I STUDY WORD POWER MADE EASY OR READING NEWSPAPER IS SUFFICIENT?
bharat : You could add these to the study material, including handouts.

san : DO OTHER ENTRANCE EXAMS REQUIRE BETTER KNOWLEDGE OF VOCAB AS AGAINST CAT?
ramachandran : Vocab is important in itself. Please work on it

kshitij : SIR, WHAT IS THE IDEAL NO. OF CORRECTS REQUIRED TO SCORE 85+ %ILE?
prajnanray : 13-15 corrects and 0 wrong

rahul : HOW MANY RC ONE SHOULD PRACTICE ON A DAILY BASIS IF ONE IS AVERAGE IN VARC SECTION??

rahul : HOW MANY RC ONE SHOULD PRACTICE ON A DAILY BASIS IF ONE IS AVERAGE IN VARC SECTION??
ramachandran : Maximum possible, really.

swaraj : SIR, I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW MUCH ONE IDEALLY SCORE TO GET MORE THAN 99 PERCENTILE IN THIS SECTION?
vikrant : We can ruminate on the numbers of the previous years - last year a score of 54% led to a 99%ile - But is that useful for us ? After all it all depends on the difficulty level of the paper and thus the number can vary. We should remain focused on attempting all those questions that we can within the allotted time limit.

don : TIPS TO IMPROVE GRAMMAR?
prajnanray : Go through the basics and practise as many questions as you can

rash : WHAT SHOULD BE MY DAILY ROUTINE TO IMPROVE MY VARC ..AS MY SCORES COULDNT CROSS 30..AND I ALWAYS DO GUESS WORK..PLS HELP
vikrant : Move from guess work to reasoning. Go through Deductions, Logical Connectives and especially CR and master these areas. Alongside, work on Grammar and Vocabulary every day. Remain focused on becoming better at Retention and Comprehension to develop your RC skills further.

aakriti : AIMCAT 1719 42PERCENTILR....AIMCAT 1718 63 PERCENTILE....HOW TO IMPROVE....
prajnanray : Talk personally with your VA FM at the centre and determine your specific course of action. Basically how to develop your basics and what to practise. Practise more and more mocks between AIMCATs.

namans : HELLO SIR/MAM , GENERALLY IN PARAJUMBLES THE MAIN PROBLEM I FACE IS THAT ONLY MY ONE SENTENCE IS SEQUENCED WRONGLY. SO WHAT CAN BE DONE TO IMPROVE IT?
gouri : look for links..

apurvasisodiya : With everyone there are certain topics that are difficult. what you can do is read up some books on those topics. get acquainted with the topic. you can also read economic times.

ramachandran : Perhaps the examination atmosphere is getting the better of you. Please do not worry. PLease simply work hard with immense self-belief.

keyan : IN THE SENTENCE CORRECTION AND CLOZE PASSAGE I THINK I NEED LOT OF PRACTICE ON IT AND IF I GO THROUGH THE CUE CARDS IS IT ENOUGH FOR ME TO ANSWER THE QUESTIONS FOR SYNONYMS TYPE AND HOW ONE SHOULD GO THROUGH THE CUE CARDS
charlton : These question types may not even appear on the CAT. Practice RCs and para-based questions which have appeared in your AIMCATs.

sambit : WHILE STARTING READING THE PASSAGES, I HAVE A HABIT OF MURMURING AND TAKING LONG TIME TO READ IT. HOW CAN I INCREASE MY READING SPEED AND READ BY MIND RATHER THAN BY TONGUE? I HAVE ATTEMPTED MANY TIMES BUT FAILED. PLEASE HELP
gouri : consciously refrain from vocalizing... Read extensively

r12 : ???????????????
prajnanray : Answered, check

aditya : HELLO TEACHERS, IF ONE KEEPS ON LEARNING 10 RANDOM WORDS ON A DAILY BASIS FROM VARIED SOURCES LIKE THE HINDU, NEWYORK TIMES, ECONOMIST, ETC.. IS THERE STILL ANY NEED OF BOOKS LIKE WORD POWER MADE EASY??
ramachandran : There still might be. More knowledge is always useful

aakriti : SIR MY BATCH STARTED IN JANUARY END....I HAVEN'T STARTED WITH ANYTHING...NO MATERIAL DONE NOTHING....PLS HELP AND GUIDE ME HOW TO START...AIMCAT 1718...63 PERCENTILE
gouri : Please start asap

megha : SIR,HOW TO IMPROVE THE ACCURACY LEVEL IN RC/

naynika : SIR/ MAM ARE THE TIME MATERIALS ENOUGH FOR CAT OR IS THERE ANY OTHER BOOK YOU WILL SUGGEST? AND SHALL I DO MY GRAMMER WITH WARN N MARTIN AND VOCAB WITH WORD POWER MADE EASY, WILL THEY HELP ?
gouri : study Material is sufficient... you could, however, supplement with a few other books...

vivekrathod : SIR IN PARA FORMATION MANY TIMES IT HAPPENS THAT I HAVE IDENTIFIED THE FOUR CORRECT OPTIONS, BUT WHEN WRITING THE CORRECT ORDERS AMONG THOSE FIRST TWO ARE CORRECT AND LAST TWO GETS INTERCHANGED, SO IT BECOMES DIFFICULT TO IDENTIFY THE THIN LINE BETWEEN THAT TWO OPTIONS, HOW TO TACKLE IT.
revanth : Hi Vivek. Please try & identify the logical links.

harsha : I HAVE DONE 12 QUESTIONS IN RC OUT OF 24 BUT ALL CORRECT ...DOES NEED TO DO MORE QUESTIONS OR QUESTIONS WITH MORE ACCURACY ...BECAUSE IN RCS NOT VERY SURE ABOUT THE RIGHT OPTION.ALSO READING SPEED IS NOT GUD..NOT ABLE TO ATTEMPT MORE THAN THREE RC
prajnanray : Only practising more can help you

mad : SIR I HAVE BEEN READING THE HINDU FOR THE PAST 7 MONTHS ON REGULAR BASIS BUT I HAVEN'T STARTED READING A BOOK YET. AM I TOO LATE??
apurvasisodiya : It's never too late. Start reading.

hades : WHICH APPROACH IS MORE SUITABLE WHILE SOLVING RCS? TO READ THE PASSAGE FIRST AND THEN TACKLE QUESTIONS OR TO READ THE QUESTIONS FIRST SO TO OBTAIN THE KEY POINTS TO LOOK IN THE PASSAGE?
ramachandran : Try both and see what works better for you. Both methods have proven to be good and effective.

yashgadhia : HOW MANY RC SHOULD A STUDENT PRACTISE DAILY..??
ramachandran : As many as s/he possibly can

hanu : IT TAKES LOT OF TIME TO COMPLETE EXERCISES IN MATERIAL.IS IT SUFFICIENT TO COMPLETE ONLY EXERCISE 1 FROM TIME MATERIAL FOR CAT?
apurvasisodiya : No it is not sufficient. solve all the exercises from the material. also give the sectional tests.

neel01 : SIR,
prajnanray : Yeah, what's your query?

frcc6z001 : SIR, I'M TAKING AROUND 10-12 MINUTES FOR ONE RC. AND THE THING IS WHEN I TRY TO KEEP THE TIME AS LOW AS POSSIBLE, I COMMIT A LOT OF MISTAKES WHICH I REALIZE DURING THE ANALYSIS. WHAT SHOULD BE MY STRATEGY THEN?
ramachandran : Reading regularly will do magic for you. Improved speed and understanding

rits16 : SIR, WHAT ARE THE IDEAL CRITERIA THAT SHOULD BE TO COMPAIR AND SELECT EASIER RC'S IN AIMCAT
vikrant : Familiarity, the ratio of length/marks (questions) and question types are the three parameters that one may use to decide.

ms : SIR I WANT TO INCREASE MY RC SPEED. WHAT I MUST DO
prajnanray : Practise

akhil : MY QUESTION WAS NOT YET ANSWERED
ramachandran : It is just possible that you did not clear your cut-off. This does not mean that there has been a failure. We wish you good luck

abhi : WHICH NEWSPAPER SHOULD I PREFER
apurvasisodiya : The Hindu has good articles and good language. i would suggest you start with that

tarun : EXCEPT READING WHAT ONE CAN DO TO BE COMFORTABLE IN UNKNOWN TOPICS (LIKE PHILOSOPHY FOR ME)IN RC AND OTHER EXERCISES IN VERBAL SECTION?

revanth : Hi Mad. With around 4 months left for CAT, please concentrate on AIMCATs rather than on books.

rash : HOW TO IMPROVE MY RC SKILLS..I AM TOTTALY WORSE AT READING.
swapnila : It could help work on your reading habits. You could begin with something you like reading and then move onto reading the RC links uploaded on your SHP.

hanu : CAN I EXCEL IN RC AND VA IN 3 MONTHS IF I WORK HARD?
apurvasisodiya : Definitely. Start working.

sambit : I HAVE 4 MONTHS IN HAND WITH NO PREPARATION STARTED IN VA/RC YET. WHICH PARTS ARE IMPORTANT TO START OVER WITH AND HOW CAN I IMPROVE MYSELF IN THESE SECTIONS IN SUCH A SHORT TIME? CAN I CRACK CAT?
apurvasisodiya : You can. but you need to start now. Start with RC and Parajumbles. practice them everyday. them move on to other topics.

mad : EVEN AFTER SO MANY VOCAB CLASSES I COULDN'T USE RPS METHOD . HOW SHOULD I LEARN MORE & MORE WORDS
swapnila : You could try the word families method for learning more words. You could also check the E-book on vocabulary uploaded on your SHP.

vivekrathod : SIR CAN YOU PLEASE SUGGEST ME BOOK FOR PRACTICING RC, AS I HAVE OPTED ONLY FOR THE ONLINE TEST SERIES?
prajnanray : Old TIME material

nikhil : SIR I GAVE CAT 2015 IT WAS DISASTER SCORE 74.6 IN VERBAL SECTION...2ND SECTION WAS DISASTER OVERALL 73.62 PERCENTILE. TILL NOW I HAVENT STARTED FULL FLEDGEDLY AND PREPARING SELF. PLEASE PROVIDE SOME INSIGHT HOW TO PREPARE FROM NOW. I AM GOOD AT RC BUT BAD AT OTHER VERBAL QUESTIONS

In case a student does not meet it, the college may not shortlist the student for the subsequent rounds of the selection process although the student may have an excellent overall percentile otherwise.

prajnanray : Finish off the basics by end of August and practise as many mock tests as possible post that

tarun : TARUN: EXCEPT READING WHAT ONE CAN DO TO BE COMFORTABLE IN UNKNOWN TOPICS (LIKE PHILOSOPHY FOR ME)IN RC AND OTHER EXERCISES IN VERBAL SECTION? REVANTH: HI TARUN. PLEASE GO THROUGH THE NEWS PAPER ARTICLES OF VARIOUS TOPICS WHICH ARE OF THE LENGTH 600 - 800 WORDS. REFERRING TO THIS I WANTED TO ASK IF THERE ARE ANY TIPS TO WORK ON EXCEPT READING AS I AM NOT GOOD AT READING?
revanth : Hi Tarun. Please do understand that you'll have to read tons of information during the MBA. So don't neglect developing good reading habits.

akhil : IS IT REQUIRED TO GET ABOVE CUTOFF MARKS IN ALL SECTIONS OR TOTALLY IS ENOUGH?
bharat : For top schools, like the IIMs, there will be overall and sectional cutoffs.

subha : IS THERE ANY TIME MANAGINIG FOR QUESTIONS ?
prajnanray : Lots

riya : SIR, I CANNOT PERFORM WELL UNDER PRESSURE IN RCS BUT THE SAME RC IF I DO IT AT HOME MY ACCURACY IS BETTER? PLEASE RECOMMEND WHAT SHOULD I DO?
vikrant : Pressure is a real phenomenon. So is our ability to handle the pressure. Look at your self-talk, and try to figure out what goes on in your mind when you attempt the passage during the AimCAT. One of the frequent reasons is our desire to do more in the test, thus we go faster than the ability we have and thus end up making mistakes.

keyan : SIR IF I GO THROUGH THE CUE CARDS IS IT ENOUGH FOR ME TO TACKLE THE SYNONYMS TYPES QUESTIONS IF IT IS SO HOW ONE SHOULD APPROACH THE CUE CARDS
asim : Its a good source for preparation, but do not limit yourself only to them, use the rest of the T.I.M.E. material effectively. Also, while reading, make sure you keep learning new words as and when you come across them.

megha : PLEASE ANSER1
prajnanray : Answered, check

ms : SIR I GOT MORE THAN 30 BY SOLVING RC IN LAST THREE AIMCAT BUT DUE TO SLOW SPEED I WAS UNABLE TO SOLVE VA HOW I CAN IMPROVE THIS SPEED
revanth : Hi MS. Please allot 45 minutes for RC & 15 minutes for VA. if that doesn't work, 40 min for RC & 20 min for VA.

abhi : SHOULD ONE START WITH VA QUESTIONS FIRST, THEN ATTEMPT THE RCS OR VICE-VERSA?
asim : Only thing you can keep in mind is not to attempt set based questions ( like RC ) at the end ( in the last few minutes ), the rest of the order can be decided based on once competence and based on the difficulty level of test.

hanu : I WANT ANSWERS FOR HANDOUTS. WHERE CAN I FIND? ARE THEY UPLOADED IN TIME WEBSITE AND WHERE?
bharat : Available in the solutions booklets.

harsha : PLEASE ANSWER MY QUESTION
prajnanray : Answered, check

prajnanray : Time is fixed for them

sowmya : SIR,THE MARKS I GET IN AIMCATS ARE NOT STABLE SOME TIMES IT IS INCREASING AND OTHERS DECREASING.WHAT SHOULD I DO FOR IT?
vikrant : The higher the number of areas of English you have mastered, the higher your score would be.

ms : I DOT 94+ PERCENTILE IN AIMCAT 1718 IS IT GOOD CORRESPONDING TO CAT
revanth : Hi. It's a good start but you need to keep performing & keep practicing.

sim94 : HELLO SIR I VE BEEN READING THE NEWSPAPER THE HINDU ON A REGULAR BASIS COVERING THE EDITORIAL SECTION. AND HAVE DONE HALF OF WORDPOWER MADE EASY FOR VOCAB BUT AM STILL NOT ABLE TO DO THE VA PART VERY WELL(PARAJUMBLES AND ODD MAN OUT).
vikrant : your efforts so far have been oriented on becoming better at a specific type of RC passages (through editorials) and vocabulary. You should also work on CR and the individual VA question types.

revanth : Yes. SM BOOKLET IS SUFFICIENT FOR GRAMMAR.

roy121 : IS IT ADVISED TO READ A COMPREHENSION PASSAGE TWICE BEFORE ATTEMPTING THE QUESTIONS? OR SHOULD I TRY TO GET THE WORK DONE IN A SINGLE SHOT?
apurvasisodiya : Read it the first time and then for each question you can come back to the passage and read the specific paragraph or paragraphs related to that question. see if that works for you.

sambit : IS IT NECESSARY TO ATTEMPT ALL THE QUESTIONS TO CRACK CAT FOR IIM CALLS?
thomas : Not at all,you need attempt only as much as you can get a cut off which has always been between 60 to65% of the total score

aditya : SIR, I HAVE BEEN DEVOTING ATLEAST AN HOUR FOR READING DAILY SINCE 5-6 MONTHS.MY SOURCES ARE- THE HINDU, NEWYORKTIMES, ECONOMIST ,ETC. STILL I AM NOT SATISFIED WITH MY READING SPEED. HOW DO I ENHANCE IT, BY NOT COMPROMISING WITH THE COMPREHENSION?
apurvasisodiya : You can practice Rcs with a timer. allot a specific time to the RC and try to complete it in the allotted time.

lovson1 : SIR.WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO IMPROVE THE SCORE IN VA?
ramachandran : Read. Read extensively.

revanth : Hi Swetha. Please take out the time to review AIMCATs if you want to crack CAT.

kriti : SIR I HAVE A LOT OF HOPES RIDING ON ME AND THE UNSTABLE PERCENTILES ARE DEMOTIVATING ME....PLS HELP??
revanth : Hi Kirti. AIMCATs are designed in such a way that you will go through varying levels. So please don't lose hope.

prateek : IS IT A GOOD STRATEGY TO ATTEMPT ALL THE
bharat : No and yes. Yes, if you know the answers to the questions. And for why no, you already know the answer. As you know, it is easier to pick a low hanging fruit (meaning solve easy questions).

anukruti92 : HOW TO SOLVE RC IN LESS DURATION.RC IS MESSING UP EVERYTHING
gouri : concentrate primarily on accuracy...then look at speed

nitin : SIR IS IT A BETTER IDEA TO GO WITH THE PASSAGES THAT I AM FAMILIAR WITH THAN TO GO SEQUENTIALLY THROUGH EVERY PASSAGE WITHOUT ANALYSING ITS DIFFICULTY LEVEL?
vikrant : Familiarity with the subject matter is one of the ways in which we determine the difficulty level. If we are suing one parameter, we might as well use the other parameters too and decide on a sequence before we attempt the paper.

kshitij : SIR IS IT ADVISABLE TO READ THE QUESTIONS FIRST AND THEN THE PASSAGE? OR I SHOULD READ THE PASSAGE THOROUGHLY AT FIRST AND THEN GO THROUGH THE QUESTIONS
vikrant : It depends. There are certain question types - main idea, suitable title etc. - that can't be answered unless you have read the passage. On the whole, getting an overview before going to the questions equips you to better answer all the varieties.

akash : GRAMMER IS NECESSARY FOR CAT ....AS IN AIMCATS NO GRAMMER QUESTION WERE PLACED..
gouri : Yes Grammar is necessary...

gita : SIR/MADAM, COULD U PLEASE SUGGEST SOME SOURCES TO IMPROVE IN PASSAGES RELATED TO PHILOSOPHY AND LITERATURE ?

bharat : No no no no! But reading anything is good... improves language ability, including vocabulary.

ms : SIR I SOLVED VA MATERIAL BUT NOT ABLE TO SCORE WELL IN VA SECTIONALS SHOULD I SOLVE THIS MATERIAL ONCE AGAIN OR ITRY ANOTHER REFERENCE
vikrant : Learn from the mistakes. Try to diagnose what is leading to the errors and working on which all areas is likely to fix that. A good diagnosis should lead to the right strategy culminating in great scores.

007 : SIR, IS READING A NOVEL COMPULSORY ? OR CAN I JUST GO FOR ARTICLES FROM DIFFERENT MAGAZINES?
revanth : Hi. As of now, start concentrating on AIMCATs.

sim94 : @VIKRANT SIR(VOCABULARY DOUBT) SIR AS CAT IS AN OBJECTIVE PAPER IN WHICH IT DOESNT REQUIRES US TO MAKE SENTENCES OUT OF A PARTICULAR WORD. SO MY QUESTION TO YOU IS THAT IS IT JUST SUFFICIENT TO KNOW AND RETAIN THE MEANING OF WORDS??? AND HOW CAN THE LEARNT DIFFICULT WORDS BE USED IN DAILY WRITING AND SPEAKING? BECAUSE A BETTER VOCAB IS NEEDED IN GD AND PI AS WELL ???
vikrant : Even if you are not able to retain one-hundred percent of the meaning of a given word, chances are you may still deal with it successfully during the exam. Using words - A word is an image or an idea. if you atart talking about different images and ideas, and look for greater precision on your day to day speech, you may get opportunities to use all those words.

rudra : @ PRAJNANRAY SIR I DIDN'T GET YOU CAN YOU PLEASE CLEARLY TELL ME WHAT TO DO?

vikrant : look for two things - Length and the number of cluesdis discernible at a glance and prioritise

pleasereply : WHICH BOOK I CAN REFER FOR BASICS I DONT UNDERSTAND TUF WORDS
prajnanray : Word Power Made Easy

vishal : DO ACTUAL CATS REFER TO THE LINE AND PARA NO. WHEN A QUESTION QUOTES A LINE FROM A COMPREHENSION? IT IS ALWAYS NOT THE SAME IN AIMCATS. I HAVE WASTED A MINUTE OR MORE SOMETIMES IN THE AIMCATS JUST TO FIND THE LINE. THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR THE RESPONSE.
apurvasisodiya : Some questions do refer to the line number. But they are very few.

roy121 : @APURVASISODIYA SIR ONE OF MY FRIENDS GOT SELECTED TO FMS DELHI LAST YEAR. HE SUGGESTED ME TO GO FOR VA FIRST, FOLLOWED BY RC. WHEN ASKED ABOUT THE REASON BEHIND THIS TRICK, HE SAID, AS VA CONSUMES LESSER TIME THAN RC, SO IF I ATTEMPT VA FIRST, I WOULD BE ABLE TO ATTEMPT MORE QUESTIONS. WHAT DO U THINK ABOUT THIS SUGGESTION? IS IT WORTH TAKING?
apurvasisodiya : Every person has a different way of solving questions comfortably. that was your friend's way to get maximum score. figure out yours. use a different strategy in every Aimcat. See what works best for you.

iyla : HELLO SIR/MA'AM.. I DID VERBAL QUESTIONS QUITE WELL THIS TIME AND I EXPECTED GOOD SCORES BUT,I GOT ONLY 2 RIGHT WHICH WAS HIGHLY DISAPPOINTING..HOW TO SCORE MARKS IN THIS SECTION? FOR PARA JUMBLE I GO WITH LOGICAL LINKS ..

ramachandran : You should do both simulatenously

rudra : @ PRAJNANRAY SIR CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME AND MAY I TALK TO YOU PERSONALLY ANYHOW?
prajnanray : prajnan.ray@time4education.com

iyla : CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME THE TIME THAT I SHOULD ALLOCATE FOR VA AND RC?
prajnanray : 60 minutes are fixed

sambit : HOW CAN I BALANCE BETWEEN VA AND RC? IF I START RC FIRST I RUN SHORT OF VA. IF I START WITH VA, IT CONSUMES A LOT OF TIME AND I RUN SHORT OF ATTEMPTING AS MUCH RC QUESTIONS. WHAT IS THE TIME MANAGEMENT SCHEME
apurvasisodiya : allot 45 minutes to RC. and 15 to VA. do not give more than the allotted time to the sections.

rhl : I HAVE GIVEN CAT 2 TIMES.. BOTH TIMES I HAD 95 PLUS... I GAVE 1719 ,IT WAS MY FIRST MOCK OF THE SEASON... I GOT 150.... IS THIS A GOOD SCORE CONSIDERING I HAVE ALREADY PREPARED INTENSIVELY TWICE... WHAT SHUD I GENUINELY DO TO IMPROVE MY SCORE AND CHANCES?

ramachandran : Suspend it for ever so short a time and get resume with a vengeance.

pleasereply : I CANT EVEN READ SENTENCES PROPERLY UNDERSTANDING THEM IS ALTOGETHER A DIFFERETNT ISSUE
ramachandran : Start from a suitable starting point. And keep working hard. You will positively get better.

keyan : SIR NOW MY SEMESTER ARE GOING TO BE STARTED WHAT SHOULD I WANT TO DO WITH MY CAT PREPARATION

ms : SIR I AM NOT ABLE TO SOLVE PARA COMPLETION AND BEST SUMMARY QUESTIONS IN PARA COMPLETION ALMOST ALL OPTIONS LOOK SAME WHAT I SHOULD DO
revanth : Hi. Please ask for an appointment with the Verbal faculty at your centre. We cannot solve this without detailed analysis of how you answer.

lovson1 : CAN U TELL ME THE MINIMUM TIME I SHOULD ALLOCATE FOR RC DAILY?
apurvasisodiya : At least an hour. more than that would be better.

ria : I HAVE ALREADY FINISHED WITH ARUN SHARMA FOR VARC. MY PERECNTILE FLUCTUATES BETWEEN 80-90. FROM WHERE ELSE CAN I PRACTICE RC'S. I AM ONLY AN AIMCAT STUDENT,NOT A REGULAR TIME STUDENT.SHOULD I GO THROUGH THE SAME RC'S AGAIN
vikrant : Instead of going through the same passages, it is better to go through the mistakes made and try to figure out the reason for the mistakes. Fix the reason, and you shall see an improvement.

sim94 : AND HOW MANY RC MUST BE DONE AT THIS POINT OF PREPARATION????
ramachandran : As many as you possibly can. More efforts will only bear better fruit.

book_worm : HOW CAN I TAKE MY VA RC PERCENTILE BEYOND 95? MY CURRENT HIGHEST IS 92
cherian : Try reading questions before the passage as it will help you pinpoint answers quickly. Also do proper aimcat analysis to figure out your weaknesses and iron them out

nitin : SIR SOME QUESTIONS THAT REQUIRE TO SEARCH FOR A PHRASE IN A PASSAGE TO DETERMINE THE ACCURACY OF ANSWERING TAKE MORE THAN 2 TO 3 MINUTES IF PASSAGE IS LONG. SOMETIMES I HAVE TO RESCAN THE PASSAGE 2 TO 3 TIMES TO FIND IT. IS IT BETTER TO LEAVE OFF THOSE QUESTIONS AFTER CROSSING THE TIME LIMIT?
vikrant : Work on becoming better at 'scanning'. For the time being, it appears that leaving them for later should be a better option for you.

kshitij : SIR, WHAT IS AN IDEAL % REQUIRED IN UNDER GRADUATION TO AIM FOR IIMS
ramachandran : The maximum possible at this stage for the student

kk : HOW MUCH DO YOU IMPROVE ON YOUR AIMCAT PERCENTILE IN FINAL CAT APPROX?
ramachandran : Anything between 5 and 50 percentile

ksmbharat : SIR/MADAM...HOW TO SEPARATE HARD QUESTIONS IN RC?
thomas : Questions that require you to do an interpretation of data like:tone, structure, central idea etc would be the tough ones.

vikrant : Not necessarily every day but DU attempt a few every week

buttercup : SIR, MY SCORES IN THE AIMCAT HAVE BECOME STAGNANT.IT IS VERY DEMOTIVATING. PLEASE HELP.
thomas : Stagnation occurs when you have not improved on your knowledge , so skip the next 2 AIMCATS gain more knowledge and then come back and attempt the remaining AIMCATs

sim94 : HOW TO COPE WITH QUESTIONS THAT HAVE TWO VERY CLOSELY RELATED CHOICES??
gouri : compare the choices and see how one is different from the other...

anukruti92 : LIKE THE TIME TILL CAT EXAMINATION,IDEALLY HOW MUCH NOVELS ONE SHOULD READ IN A MONTH
cherian : Novels don't have good grammar. So depends on Hindu newspaper and good biographies

sanjeev : SIR, I HAVE ISSUE WITH MY ACCURACY, VARYING FROM 44 TO 90 IN VA-RC FOR THE 8 AIMCATS THAT I HAVE APPEARED. HOW CAN I IMPROVE MY ACCURACY IN VA RC?
cherian : See if your accuracy drops when you are attempting passages based on unfamiliar topics. Also read the questions first before the passage so you know what to look for

sambit : IF I AM GIVEN 5 PASSAGES AND AM TO CHOOSE FROM THEM, AND ALL ARE EQUALLY UNKNOWN TO ME( ON THE BASIS OF TOPIC) HOW DO I CHOOSE WHICH PASSAGE/S TO ATTEMPT?
cherian : Choose RCs which has content that is familiar to you. Then read the questions first and then the passage to get better accuracy

revanth : Hi. Good going as of now. Please concentrate on improving your Percentiles by reviewing your AIMCATs. Too early to predict percentile in CAT.

rr : THE OPTIONS GIVEN IN RC'S TURN OUT TO BE EASY TO ELIMINATE I FEAR THE QUESTION BUT THE OPTIONS GIVEN; 2 OUT OF THE FOUR ARE VERY EASY TO ELIMINATE. IS THE DIFFICULTY LEVEL GOING TO BE THE SAME IN REAL CAT BECAUSE LAST AIMCAT I MANAGED TO GET 97.17 IN VA/RD
thomas : As your preparation goes on you will find that your knowledge and skills are improving and enabling you to achieve good scores in the AIMCATs

sambit : HOW TO KNOW THE CENTRAL IDEA AND KEY IDEA OF PASSAGE AND HOW TO DISTINGUISH BETWEEN THEM?
gouri : start off with summarising... helps to gather the main idea..

pragya : HOW MANY QUESTIONS ARE SUFFICIENT TO ATTEMT CORRECT IN VA RC TO GET CALL FROM IIMS?
cherian : There is no safe no of questions to get a call. The level of the paper determines safe attempts. For an easy paper you need to maximize attempts and for a difficult paper you need to maximize accuracy

sim94 : THANKYOU TO ALL THE TEACHERS FOR SUGGESTIONS:)
prajnanray : Welcome and all the best

aditya : GIVEN THE CAT IS IN NOVEMBER, SHOULD I TRY HOW TO READ BETTER AND FASTER BY NORMAN AS MY READING SPEED IS SLOW AND RC ARE GOING BAD.
vikrant : A. We do not know that the CAT will be in November. B. Norman Lewis is for general readers. For the CAT follow the techniques shared in the RC classes.

emma : HOW TO IMPROVE CRITICAL REASONING?
apurvasisodiya : Practice. read the solution carefully and try to get the logic then practice again.

emma : HOW TO IMPROVE CRITICAL REASONING?
revanth : Hi. Please go through the SM & Basic CR questions in SHP.

flora : SIR, SUGGEST ME A UNIVERSAL STANDARD RULE TO SOLVE THE RC PASSAGES AS DIFFERENT FACULTIES ADOPT DIFFERENT METHODS TO SOLVE. ITS CONFUSING
thomas : You have to adopt different methods depending on length of passage , for short passages-passage first ,for long passages para or section reading

sankalp : SIR, MY 10TH, 12TH AND COLG PERCENTILE ARE 88, 83,AND 7.3 RESPECTIVELY. BUT I AM CONFIDENT OF SCORING 99.6+ IN CAT. DO I STAND A GOOD CHANCE IN TOP 3 IIMS?
cherian : Yes. About 80 to 90% weightage is for CAT score and WAT/PI performance

abhi : AFTER FINISHING THE TIME BOOKS, SHOULD I OPT FOR ARUN SHARMA'S BOOKS FOR FURTHER PRACTICE?
revanth : Please go through AIMCATs & SAMCATS.

sambit : HOW TO COPE UP WITH QUESTIONS WHICH REQUIRE OBJECTIVE OF THE AUTHOR OR INFERENCE OF A CERTAIN TOPIC? EVERY MIND IS DIFFERENT IN JUDGING AND INFERRING, HOW CAN ANSWERS BE ONE OF A KIND?
apurvasisodiya : The aim of CAT Rcs is to make you see the author's point of view. not you own. the answers where you do not have to make any assumptions of your own are generally correct.

ab : @APURVASISODIYA MY OVERALL ATTEMPTS IN VA/RC SECTION NEVER CROSSES 20 QUESTIONS. MOREOVER, THE ACCURACY ALWAYS HOVERS AROUND 55-60%. WHAT WILL BE THE BEST WAY FORWARD TO IMPROVE SPEED AND ACCURACY BOTH ? I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHERE DO I GO WRONG EVEN WHEN I SPEND A CONSIDERABLE TIME ON ANY QUESTION ANALYSIS.
apurvasisodiya : Sitting and analysing Aimcat solutions with a faculty would help. try that. also to improve speed practice with a timer. accuracy would increase as soon as you realise where you go wrong while solving.

book_worm : PLEASE SUGGEST HOW CAN I IMPROVE IN VA+RC. I AM WILLING TO WORK HARD
cherian : Read Hindu newspaper daily. Time yourself when you read the editorials and after you read it, jot down 5-6 points about the article in a book. You will develop the skill to pick out the answers and also develop you general awareness

sambit : SIR, WHY ARE WE FOCUSED ON ATTEMPTING MANY NUMBER OF QUESTIONS IN LESS TIME RATHER THAN ATTEMPTING LESS BUT CORRECT QUESTIONS? WHICH OF THE TWO IS BETTER?
thomas : It is a combination of both because at the end of the day it is relative merit in the form of percentile scores

prateek : DEAR SIR/MAAM,IS IT BTR TO LEAVE THE RCS HALFWAY N SWITCH TO THE VA SECTION TO IMPROVE THE SCORING ?SIR PLZ REPLY

apurvasisodiya : For verbal ability, practice is your best bet. start with 10 parajumbles on the daily basis

sambit : THANKS A LOT FACULTIES FOR THE HELP! GOD BLESS AND I WILL START PREPARING AND CRACKING CAT SURELY :)
gouri : All the Best

shiv : I AM READING THE HINDU REGULARLY...MY AIMCAT SCORE IS JUST 60% NOW...I CANT CONTROL MY NEGATIVE MARKING

ab : @APURVA @CHERIAN FOR OMETS LIKE SYMBIOSIS AND NMAT. HOW DOES ONE IMPROVE BEING ACCURATE AND QUICK IN VA/RC ? THIS SECTION HAPERS MY OVERALL CHANCE OF GETTING A CALL.. PLEASE HELP
cherian : I believe that when does is of the essence you start relying on your instinct rather than basic rules. So get your instincts sorted out by reading proper English like in Hindu and business line and start relying on your instinct after you are confident
