A generic MBA from these Bschools will also offer you more opportunities. If you are very keen on applying your engineering basics in managment, you may want to consider MBA in Operations Management which is offered by many Bschools (especially if you're a Mech engineer).

With your current percentile, you're definitely capable of getting 95+ percentile in CAT. So, do apply to the top colleges (non-IIM) such as MDI, SP Jain, IIFT, IIT etc. Below this level, there are colleges such as IMT Ghaziabad, IMI, TAPMI, XIMB,Great Lakes, IRMA, FORE etc. whose cut-off is 92-85 per centile. You may want to apply to a few colleges in the 80-85 bracket as a backup - Goa Institute, KJ Somaiya, Welingkar,IFMR, Loyola etc. Do your research on each of these before deciding which ones are most suitable for you.

Most major consultancies visit XLRI for placements, and the college has a special wing to promote strategy and consulting.

lakshmymenon : ISB accepts GMAT, as you surely know. Other than that, colleges such as SPJIMR, IMT Ghaziabad, IMI etc. accept GMAT.
