daksh : TIPS FOR PREPARATION OF VARC AND LR
govindrajan : Start with classroom handouts followed by online foundation tests and then exercise (a) of each chapter. After covering a few topics you may start attempting online intermediate tests. Simultaneously solve questions from Self administered AIMCATs. You may start solving exercise (b) and online advanced tests. After a couple of months you start practicing questions from lot 2 material.

siddu : DOES IT HELP READING BOOKS IN READING COMPREHENSION ?
gurdeepgill : It does help by way of enhancing the reading habit on various subjects. In addition, ensure you expose yourself to articles, features, editorials etc. that appear in opinion based newspapers viz. The Hindu, The Indian Express, The Guardian, The Economist etc.

lakshay : HOW TO PREPARE FOR RC IN 5 MONTHS
lakshmymenon : Read a couple of articles daily, and ensure that you cover a wide range of topics. You can choose sources such as Aeon Essays (these are long articles - you can read a few paragraphs), Economist, Guardian, BBC, Wired, Scroll, National Geographic etc. Aim for a reading speed of 250-300 words per minute. You can set a timer after doing a word count and finish reading the article within this time. After that, try to sum up the essence of the article in 1 sentence. You can then look up the meanings of difficult words and note them in a book. Revise this from time to time. Apart from this, practice our sectional tests and study materials. Take AIMCATs regularly and analyse your mistakes by listening to the video explanations.

hocc4z012 : HOW TO GET STARTED WITH DILR AS IT HAS NO SYLLABUS
govindrajan : Once you read the initial few lines of a puzzle/DI set, you will get to know what kind of puzzle/DI set we are going to solve. This does not take more than 30 to 40 seconds. Give a quick read to the given data spending about a minute time. Do not try to analyse the information at this stage. Spend a couple of minutes to read the questions and the type of answer choices. In case the questions have "If" conditions, it indicates that we get more than one possible solution. The questions let us know how to use the given information. All these should happen in about 3 minutes. Then start going through the information carefully. While doing this decide which statement to be picked up first and the order in which the other pieces of information are to be used. This way we can have a smooth flow of thought process and take less time to solve.

hocd4a160 : HOW TO ASK THE FACULTY FOR DOUBTS ?
govindrajan : Post you dates at catdoubt.hyd@time4education.com

ishaan : SHOULD I REFER TO ANY OTHER MATERIAL APART FROM TIMES MATERIAL FOR LR?
govindrajan : The material contains basic study material and practice exercises, LRPEs, LWHOs, LATs, online foundation, intermediate, advanced tests, AIMCAT-SAs. You may think of practicing from other material after completing the T.I.M.E. material.

das : PROPER WAY TO DO RC
gurdeepgill : Read 2 - 3 articles on a diversity of subjects on a daily basis. Read slowly and comprehensively - pay attention to the subject, the central idea, the flow of thought, the language and logic as well the style / structure used by the author. Mentally be prepared to answer questions that follow.

ayush : I'M READING A BOOK DAILY, WILL IT HELP IMPROVE MY COMPREHENSION?
gurdeepgill : Yes, but ensure you read with a clear mindset of comprehending all the literary elements that the author uses to create content. In addition, add articles and editorials from newspapers and magazines to your reading habit.

das : TIPS FOR DOING RC
gurdeepgill : Already answered

dl4ca : FROM WHERE TO READ SPECIALLY WHEN I HAVE NO HABIT OF READING
lakshmymenon : For RC preparation, read a variety of articles from newspapers and other sources such as Aeon Essays ( these are long articles - read 3-4 paragraphs from an article), Guardian, Economist, Wired, Scroll etc. Try to expose yourself to topics you are not familiar with. CAT often has passages from sociology, psychology, economics, science and technology, philosophy, politics, linguistics, literature etc.

lakshya : IN VARC SECTION, WHICH PART SHOULD I ATTEMPT FIRST VA OR RC ?
gurdeepgill : It is based on one's own proficiency and the subsequent result. Both the strategies can deliver equal reward - use each approach multiple times till you arrive at a decision based on superior accuracy.

mo : HOW TO INCREASE FOCUS WHILE SOLVING LR
govindrajan : Once you read the initial few lines of a puzzle/DI set, you will get to know what kind of puzzle/DI set we are going to solve. This way we can have a smooth flow of thought process and take less time to solve.

hocn4q108 : FOR VARC CURRENTLY I AM ABLE TO ATTEND 2 PASSAGES AND MAX PART OF VERBAL QUESTIONS. BUT MY ACCURACY IN RC PART IS NOT THAT GOOD, SHOULD I GO FOR A 3 RD PASSAGE AND LEAVE OUT SOME OF THE NON TITA VERBAL QUESTIONS? SHOULD I FOCUS TO MAXIMISE MY ATTEMPT RATE IN INITIAL MOCKS AND AND FOCUS ON ACCURACY IN LATER PART OF PREP ?
shashidar : Logically, the amount of info you need to process in VA Qs is much less than the info in RC Qs. I suggest you attempt ALL the VA Qs. I would suggest you first maximize accuracy. 2 RC passages & 8 VA Qs is a very good attempt for CAT itself. I suggest you reduce your Qs answered to 13/14 & spend quality time with these first. Once you are consistently at 80% + accuracy, THEN incrementally increase your attempts

issh : WHAT SHOULD I DO TO BE CONFIDENT WITH VOCABULARY
gurdeepgill : Ability to recall the meaning of the word every time you encounter it is the ultimate test of confidence. Hence, read a lot, read a diversity of subjects, note the words, extensively use a dictionary, spend time to retain the meaning. Repeat this cycle till the day of the exam.

mo : IS IT POSSIBLE FOR SOMEONE TO CRACK WHOLE SYLLABUS OF RC AND LR IN 5 MONTHS
lakshmymenon : Yes. There is no syllabus for RC - you just need a lot of practice. For LR too, practice is more important than just learning the methods. You can start taking sectional tests and AIMCATs regularly and analyse them. 5 months is enough.

lakshya : IS VOCAB IMPORTANT ?
shashidar : Of course it is. Not only to navigate the RC passages but also to acquit yourself creditably in the MBA program itself because communication skills ranks right at the top to be a good MBA

ishaan : I CAN COMPLETE ONE RC PASSAGE IN 8 MINUTES, SHOULD I ATTEMPT ALL RC PASSAGE AND GIVE REMAINING TIME TO VA?
lakshmymenon : Since your reading speed is good, you can try to attempt all passages. However, DO NOT blindly attempt all questions. Read each question and try to eliminate 2 options straight away. Then, if you're confused between the remaining 2 options, revisit the relevant parts of the passage and compare each option. If you're still confused, quickly drop the question! Attempting all questions will definitely get you negative marks - so try to work out a strategy.

abcd : WHICH PAPERS, EDITORIALS AND NEWS SOURCES TO REFER FOR INCREASING GENERAL KNOWLEDGE FOR RC?
shashidar : Please read the articles in your SHP. It covers all the genres featuring in CAT. That'll help you to acquaint yourself with the relevant topics

kcxa4a159 : RECOMMEND SOME MATERIALS FOR GETTING A BRAODER IDEA ON FORMULATING IDEAS FROM A PASSAGE APART FROM TIME MATERIAL.PLEASE DO NOT ONLY RECOMMEND TIME MATERIAL BECAUSE I HAVE ALREADY GOT THE RECOMMENDATION SEVERAL TIMES
lakshmymenon : Read articles on a wide range of topics. Sources include Aeon Essays (read 3-4 paras, since these are lengthy articles), Scroll, Guardian, BBC, wired, National Geographic etc. Try to read with a timer (do a word count, and set the timer at a speed of 250 words per minute). After you finish reading, cover the article and try to write down the essence in exactly once sentence. Later, read it again slowly to see if you got the central idea right.

lakshya : I GET A LOT OF DIFFICULT WITH RC'S RELATED TO PSYCHOLOGY AND PHILOSOPHY. HOW TO CAN I IMPROVE IN IT ?
shashidar : These are alien topics to you since you don't read such topics in your daily life. There are a number of articles in your SHP, read articles on these topics to familiarize yourself with this genre. You'll get comfortable over time

drca4a106 : FROM WHERE WE GET AEON ESSAYS
lakshmymenon : https://aeon.co/essays

hocd4a160 : IN RC PASSAGES EVEN AFTER READING THE SAME PASSAGE FOR 2-3 TIMES, AFTER FINDING THE DIFFICULT MEANINGS TOO, I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE PASSAGE WELL. HOW TO IMPROVE
lakshmymenon : You need to practice focused reading. Read passages on a variety of topics. After every 3-4 sentences, pause and ask yourself what you read so far (make a mental summary). Then read on further. This will help you to focus, and comprehend the passage. If you're not able to make mental summaries, you may note down 2-3 keywords (in short form) of each para. After a while, when you're more confident, you can start reading articles with a timer, at a reading speed of 200-250 words per minute.

mo : IS TIME MATERIAL ENOUGH TO CRACK LR
govindrajan : Yes it is. The material contains basic study material and practice exercises, LRPEs, LWHOs, LATs, online foundation, intermediate, advanced tests, AIMCAT-SAs.

rushi : HOW SHOULD I FOCUS PREPARATION FOR LR? ARE THE STUDY MATERIALS GIVEN ENOUGH?
govindrajan : Yes the material comprehensively covers the syllabus. Once you read the initial few lines of a puzzle/DI set, you will get to know what kind of puzzle/DI set we are going to solve. This way we can have a smooth flow of thought process and take less time to solve.

lakshay : HOW TO UNDERSTAND THE QUESTION AND ANSWER IT IN ONE MINUTE ?
lakshmymenon : In which subject?

dl4ca : HOW TO MANAGE CAT PREP WHILE INTERNSHIP AND COLLEGE
gurdeepgill : To begin with, it would involve utmost clarity wrt your strong and weak subjects. Thereafter, isolate clear time available during various parts of the day. Effective time management is critical. From this, devise a robust timetable by apportioning available time wisely across all the subjects.

lakshya : IN RC PASSAGE, MANY TIME I AM ABLE TO ELIMINATE 2 OPTIONS AND THE REMAINING 2 ARE THE MOST CONFUSING ONES. HOW TO DEAL WITH SUCH PROBLEM ?
lakshmymenon : Yes, that's the whole challenge. When you're stuck with 2 options, go back to the relevant parts of the passage and compare each option with what's written in the passage. Look for distortions, far fetched or out of context options etc. If you're still confused, quickly drop the question since you're not required to answer every question. Even 60 per cent attempts with high accuracy will give you 99+ per centile, so try to avoid negative marks by being selective with your attempts.

bhcn4q735 : WHAT ARE THE TOPICS I SHOULD MAINILY FOCUS ON IN VA RCAND LR TO GET A DESCENT SCORE IN CAT ?
lakshmymenon : There are no topics in VARC. You can try to read articles on a variety of subjects such as sociology, psychology, philosophy, history, politics, linguistics, literature, science and technology since these topics often appear in CAT. You can also practice all the paragraph-based VA question types since they too appear in CAT.

sheetal : I JUST STARTED MY PREPARATION. IS IT POSSIBLE TO SCORE 99 PERCENTILE WITH 6 MONTHS OF PREPARATION?
shashidar : Absolutely! See, 99%le is around 90 marks. Work backwards, it means 30 correct answers out of 66 Qs. You need to answer around 10 Qs in DILR, another 12 Qs in Q & around 15/16 in VARC. Approach your mocks systematically.

sheetal : TIPS FOR PREPARATION OF VARC AND LR
govindrajan : Start with classroom handouts followed by online foundation tests and then exercise (a) of each chapter. After covering a few topics you may start attempting online intermediate tests. Simultaneously solve questions from Self administered AIMCATs. You may start solving exercise (b) and online advanced tests. After a couple of months you start practicing questions from lot 2 material.

pk : I'M A REPEATER LEFT MY JOB FOR PREPRATION, FEELING OK WITH MY CONCEPTS IN QUANT AND DILR I'M NOT AT ALL ABLE TO SCORE IN VARC. CAH YOU SUGGEST A WEEKLY SCHEDULE FOR MY SELF PREPRATION
gurdeepgill : Read a diverse set of subjects on a daily basis with a conscious mind and deep engagement. Have absolute clarity on the fundamental concepts wrt writing. Solve 3 RC passages and 3 questions in each VA area - Para Jumbles, Summaries and Completion on alternate days. Attempt and analyze Online sectional tests / AIMCATs regularly and thoroughly. Focus on strengths and weaknesses; keep fine tuning your strategy as you acquire desirable expertise.

ishaan : IS READING A NOVEL BETTER DAILY TO IMPROVE ENGLISH OR AEON/OTHER COMPLEX ESSAYS?
sunildua : Both reading novels and essays can help you improve your vocab as well as your ability to read but when you read essays like Aeon, you are actually reading the Cat material.

mih : TIPS FOR LR PREP
govindrajan : Start with classroom handouts followed by online foundation tests and then exercise (a) of each chapter. After covering a few topics you may start attempting online intermediate tests. Simultaneously solve questions from Self administered AIMCATs. You may start solving exercise (b) and online advanced tests. After a couple of months you start practicing questions from lot 2 material.

poornima : WHAT IS THE PLAN TO BE DEVISED FOR LR ? SHOULD WE SEE PAST QUESTION PAPERS ?
govindrajan : Start with classroom handouts followed by online foundation tests and then exercise (a) of each chapter. After covering a few topics you may start attempting online intermediate tests. Simultaneously solve questions from Self administered AIMCATs. You may start solving exercise (b) and online advanced tests. After a couple of months you start practicing questions from lot 2 material. AIMCAT-SAs have questions in the pattern of previous year question papers.

drca4a911 : WHAT ARE THE MAIN WHICH SHOULD BE COVER BY THE STUDENTS ANYHOW? LIKE THEIR QUESTIONS ARE FOR SURE TO COME IN EXAMS AS WELL AS IN INTERVIEW
sunildua : It seems that you want to do selective study only. How can anyone predict what questions will be asked from you. Remember using shortcuts will not take you anywhere. Please do detailed preparation for the exams. Stay focussed and you will succeed.

hocd4a160 : HOW TO SOLVE PARA JUMBLES. I AM ABLE TO CONNECT 2 STATEMENTS BUT NOT MORE. AND FACE DIFFICULTY TO FORM A COHERENT PARAGRAPH
shashidar : There are two ways to approach PJs. First, read all the sentences & get an idea of the topic. Search for the introduction sentence & then sequence the rest. Remember the opening sentence is never elaborate, it's likely to be cryptic or sketchy. The next sentence is elaborate. The second approach is to form a mandatory pair, once you do that there are only 6 permutations

dl4ca : HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD I GIVE TO VA AND RC PER DAY ESPECIALLY WHEN I AM VERY WEAK IN THIS SECTION ?
lakshmymenon : The quality of preparation is more important than quantity. Read a couple of articles daily on a wide range of topics. Look up tough words in a dictionary and note down the meanings - revise this from time to time. Attempt sectional tests and AIMCATs and analyse your mistakes thoroughly. If you do this much regularly, you will see a lot of improvement.

shubhra : HOW TO REVISE THE LR SETS? THOSE SETS WHICH WE WEREN'T ABLE TO DO IN THE 1ST ATTEMPT SHALL I REDO THOSE IN SOME INTERVAL OF TIME AGAIN?
govindrajan : Those sets should be solved once in a short interval of time (say a day or two) and again a second time after a week. Whern you solve the set the second time, the focus will be why a particular approach is taken. This would give you a better logical thinking ability.

hyca4a641 : SHOULD WE FOLLOW OTHER MATERIALS FOR PREPARING FOR LRDI OR IF T.I.M.E. MATERIAL ENOUGH?
govindrajan : The material contains basic study material and practice exercises, LRPEs, LWHOs, LATs, online foundation, intermediate, advanced tests, AIMCAT-SAs. You may think of practicing from other material after completing the T.I.M.E. material.

shivalik : HOW TO READ PARAGRAPH LIKE GO THROUGH ALL OR JUST THE KEY AND MAIN IDEA
lakshmymenon : In order to understand the key idea, you will have to skim through the whole passage. Read everything, but do not linger for too long on details.

kxcb4a135 : HOW SHOULD I IMPROVE MY SPOKEN SKILL?
shashidar : See if there's a Toastmasters Club in your city & join it. It'll help a lot in shedding stage fear & also help you in structuring a speech

ishaan : WHEN I START A NEW TOPIC IN DI/LR I AM UNABLE TO SOLVE VERY EASY QUESTIONS TOO, HOW SHOULD I APPROACH A NEW TOPIC?
govindrajan : Once you read the initial few lines of a puzzle/DI set, you will get to know what kind of puzzle/DI set we are going to solve. This way we can have a smooth flow of thought process and take less time to solve.

ak : I AM READING EDITORIAL'S OF THE HINDU FOR THE PAST FEW DAYS , WHAT ARE THE OTHER WAYS TO READ WHICH CAN HELP ME IN BOTH VOCABULARY AND RC AS WELL KEEP MYSELF UPDATED IN CURRENT AFFAIRS.
lakshmymenon : While reading, look up the the meanings of new words and note them in a book. Revise this from time to time. You can also read some foreign journals like Economist, Guardian, New York Times etc.

poornima : ANY ADDITIONAL RESOURCES SHOULD WE REFER TO FOR DILR ? ALSO TO SOLVE PAST QUESTION PAPERS IS THERE ANY RESOURCE WHICH WE CAN REFER TO ?
govindrajan : The material contains basic study material and practice exercises, LRPEs, LWHOs, LATs, online foundation, intermediate, advanced tests, AIMCAT-SAs. You may think of practicing from other material after completing the T.I.M.E. material. AIMCAT-SAs have questions on the pattern of previous year questions.

lnca4a444 : GOOD EVNG SIR,I HAVE SOLVE LOD 1 OF DILR FROM TIME MATERIAL EASILY.BUT I FOUND THAT WHILE SOLVING FROM LOD 2,IT TAKES MORE TIME TO SOLVE DILR SETS,KINDLY GUIDE WHAT TO DO TO SOLVE THE SAME IN LESS THAN 17 TO 20 MINS.
govindrajan : Once you read the initial few lines of a puzzle/DI set, you will get to know what kind of puzzle/DI set we are going to solve. This way we can have a smooth flow of thought process and take less time to solve.

hocd4w093 : I AM QUITE SLOW IN READING AND MY VOCABULARY IS ALSO NOT STRONG HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR CAT 2024 WHAT TYPES OF EDITORIALS AND BOOKS SHOULD I READ
lakshmymenon : Read a couple of articles daily, and ensure that you cover a wide range of topics. You can choose sources such as Aeon Essays (these are long articles - you can read a few paragraphs), The Hindu Editorial, Economist, Guardian, BBC, Wired, Scroll, National Geographic etc. Take AIMCATs regularly and analyse your mistakes by listening to the video explanations.

bhcn4q735 : I TAKES A LOT OF TIME FOR ME TO DO ONE PASSAGE OF RC AROUND 15-20 MINS . HOW CAN I IMPROVE IT?
shashidar : Keep practicing at least 3/4 passages a day, you'll increase your speed eventually

ishaan : WHICH NEWSPAPER WOULD YOU RECOMMEND FOR DAILY READING?
gurdeepgill : The Indian Express, The Hindu, The Guardian, The Economist should suffice.

ramdarshan : I TAKES A LOT OF TIME FOR ME TO DO ONE PASSAGE OF RC AROUND 15-20 MINS . HOW CAN I IMPROVE IT?
lakshmymenon : Read articles on a wide range of topics. Sources include Aeon Essays (read 3-4 paras, since these are lengthy articles), Scroll, Guardian, BBC, wired, National Geographic etc. Try to read with a timer (do a word count, and set the timer at a speed of 250 words per minute). You have to push yourself to finish the article before the timer goes off. After you finish reading, cover the article and try to write down the essence in exactly once sentence. Later, read it again slowly to see if you got the central idea right. You may nit comprehend much initially, but you will definitely see improvement in a few weeks.

hocd4a160 : HOW MANY QUESTIONS SHOULD WE ATTEMPT IN RC AND VA FOR CAT
lakshmymenon : 15-16 attempts with very high accuracy will get you above 99 percentile; so even 50 per cent questions is a good target. Work on your accuracy.

dl4ca : HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD WE GIVE TO ALL SUBJECTS EVERY DAY
gurdeepgill : This would depend on your familiarity and proficiency wrt all the subjects. So, first clearly establish your strong and weak areas. Go deep and plot across all the sub subjects. Given the time available, spend more time on weak areas and enhance your capability while periodically keeping in touch with your strong areas. Daily and effective time management is the key to performance.

ramdarshan : HOW TO PREPARE FOR RC IN 5 MONTHS
lakshmymenon : Read a couple of articles daily, and ensure that you cover a wide range of topics. You can choose sources such as Aeon Essays (these are long articles - you can read a few paragraphs), Economist, Guardian, BBC, Wired, Scroll, National Geographic etc. Aim for a reading speed of 250-300 words per minute. You can then look up the meanings of difficult words and note them in a book. Revise this from time to time. Apart from this, practice our sectional tests and study materials. Take AIMCATs regularly and analyse your mistakes by listening to the video explanations.

drca4a106 : AEON ESSAYS ENOUGH
lakshmymenon : It is a good resource, but try to read articles from a wide range of sources.

vjcb4a019 : WHEN SHOULD WE START GIVING MOCKS?
gurdeepgill : As soon as possible - the initial few to understand the format and to identify your strengths and weaknesses. Even if your accuracy is currently limited, an AIMCAT allows you to understand both yourself and the competition.

poornima : WHAT IS THE ATTEMPT AND ACCURACY RATE NO. OF QUESTIONS TO GET 99 % ABOVE ?
shashidar : Around 40 Qs with an 80% + accuracy

hocd4a160 : HOW MANY RC PASSAGE IS ENOUGH FOR CAT?
lakshmymenon : Try to attempt 3, but be selective with the questions.

kanish : HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD I ALLOT EVERYDAY TO EACH SUBJECT. JUST A APPROXIMATE HOURS FOR MOTIVATION
sunildua : It all depends on how much time you need to devote to be able to do a good preparation. The duration of Time varies from person to person. Don't count time, Worry about a good preparation and whatever that takes.

shubhra : IN RC IF I DON'T STOP AFTER A PARAGRAPH TO PROCESS WHAT I READ, BY THE END OF THE PASSAGE IT JUST FEELS I KEPT ON READING THOSE WORDS WITH NO CLARITY. HENCE TO SUMMARIZE EACH PARA, WHAT DETAILS SHOULD I PERSIST IN MY HEAD SO AS TO MOVE TO THE NEXT PARA? JUST THE KEYWORD AROUND WHICH THAT PARA IS ABOUT OR AUTHOR'S VERDICT OR FRAMEWORK OF THE PARA? SO MANY SENTENCES ARE THERE IN 1 PARA WHICH HAVE SUBJ-VERB COMBINATION(GIVING US IDEA). WHAT TO REMEMBER?
shashidar : First, read each para & understand it the way you would've written it. Note down key words of each para on your scrap sheet & your understanding will be further reinforced by the simple act of writing it down. Once you are done with the passage, read the key words to recall the content of each para

kanish : CAN I GET BLACKI IIM PROVIDED ONLY 6 MONTHS ARE LEFT, IS THE TARGET ACHIEVABLE??
sunildua : Target is certainly achievable. The chances are directly proportional to the efforts that you put in.

bhcn4q735 : IT TAKES A LOT OF TIME FOR ME TO SOLVE ONE LR.. HOW CAN I IMPROVE IT?
govindrajan : Once you read the initial few lines of a puzzle/DI set, you will get to know what kind of puzzle/DI set we are going to solve. This way we can have a smooth flow of thought process and take less time to solve.

muca4a099 : WHERE TO START FOR LOGICAL REASONING AND HOW TO BUILD THE ANALYTICAL SKILLS REQUIRED FOR SOLVING LR QUESTIONS
govindrajan : Start with classroom handouts followed by online foundation tests and then exercise (a) of each chapter. After covering a few topics you may start attempting online intermediate tests. Simultaneously solve questions from Self administered AIMCATs. You may start solving exercise (b) and online advanced tests. After a couple of months you start practicing questions from lot 2 material. Once you read the initial few lines of a puzzle/DI set, you will get to know what kind of puzzle/DI set we are going to solve. This way we can have a smooth flow of thought process and take less time to solve.

vjcb4a019 : BY WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO COMPLETE THE SYLLABUS AND WHEN SHOULD WE START PRACTICING?
sunildua : Preparation for Cat is a never-ending process. There is actually no defined syllabus in Cat. So don't worry about finishing the syllabus. Make sure that you revise and consolidate every thing that you study each day.

lnca4a444 : IN LOD 2 OF DILR,IS IT NECCESSARY TO SOLVE EVERY SET AS SOMETIME I STUCK IN BETWEEN LENGTHY AND MULTIPLE CASE SET,SO JUST WANT TO KNOW. IS IT OKAY TO LEAVE SOME SETS OR SOLVE EVERY SETS OF DILR OF LOD 2
govindrajan : DILR as such dowes not have a defined framewwork. The more you practice the better will be readyness to face any kind of logical questions. Have patrience and solve every set completely.

chinmay : I FEEL THAT THE DILR MATERIAL GIVEN TO US HAS VERY BASIC QUESTIONS, TOPIC WISE. SHOULD I START WITH CAT PYQS OR SHOULD I FIRST FINISH MY DILR MATERIAL AND THEN GO FOR IT? WHAT SHOULD BE MY PREP STRATEGY AS I AM WELL ACQUAINTED WITH DATA INTERPRETATION BEFORE.
govindrajan : Please have a look at the entire material provided to you. There are basic study material and practice exercises (advance level). Among the worksheets, there are Basic level Handouts, and advance level handouts (LRPES, LWHOs, DWHOs, LATs, DATs). In online material also there are foundation level, intermediate level, and advance level tests. AIMCAT-SAs have questions that are on the lines of previous year CAT papers.

hyca4a165 : GOOD EVENING SIR WHEN THE MOCK TEST ARE CONDUCTED IN TIME INSTITUTE?
govindrajan : Schedule is provided on student home page.

yogesh : HLO SIR,I HAVE HEARD LOT 0F THE BOOK (WORD POWER MADE ESSAY) TO IMPROVE VARC,BUT SIR IT IS WORTH TO STUDY NOW AS ONLY 6 MONTH IS LEFT.. WHAT IS YOUR OPINON SHOULD I STUDY FROM THAT BOOK OR NOT? AND IF NOT SO WHICH THING I SHOULD REFER OR DO TO IMPROVE MY VARC SECTION
sunildua : This book will help you improve your vocab. You must ensure that you read this book and do all the exercises within 2-3 weeks.

shubhra : NOT ABLE TO UNDERSTAND WHEN WILL I BE ABLE TO COVER EVERYTHING. VIDEOS, SECTIONAL TESTS, STUDY MATERIAL, SELF ADMIN AIMCATS, SO MUCH TO COVER. IT FEELS THERE'S A PRESSURE OF COMPLETING 1 CHP IN 2-3 DAYS OTHERWISE WON'T BE ABLE TO FINISH EVERYTHING.
gurdeepgill : There is enough time to prepare for CAT and do very well. Please do not be overwhelmed and disheartened. The course material is clearly designed for exposure and regular improvement in a sequential manner. Follow the structure and routine - clarity of concepts, practise, testing, mocks i.e. classroom handouts, practise exercises, online sectional tests and the AIMCATs / SAMCATs.

muca4a099 : IN VARC ONE MUST FIRST GO THEOUGH THE QUESTIONS AND THEN TO THE PARAGRAPH OR FIRST READ THE PARA AND THEN ATTEMPT THE QUESTIONS.
gurdeepgill : It is based on one's own proficiency and the subsequent result. Both the strategies are known to deliver equal reward - use each approach multiple times till you arrive at a decision based on superior accuracy. Consistency of accuracy and time taken are the important parameters.

apurb : SIR , I AM FACING PROBLEM IN THE PARA JUMBLE PORTION , AS WHILE ARRANGING , MY CONCEPT OF ARRANGING IN A PARTICULAR MANNER IS FOUND TO BE LOGICAL ACCORDING TO ME BUT THE ANSWER IS DIFFERENT, YES QUITE SIMILAR TO IT , ONLY MAY BE 2-3 OPTIONS ARE INTERCHANGED AND IT HAD CAME WITH DIFFERENT LOGIC ,
gurdeepgill : Para jumbles are a slippery category and require detailed analysis and trend management. Analyze the solution thoroughly and compare it with your answer to avoid future mistakes. While practising, do not rush the answer - spend time freely to arrive at the correct sequence. This will allow clarity wrt to the culprit - lack of expertise / inability to understand the structure or time constraints. Accordingly, apply solutions based on the logic and language used by the author.

lnca4a444 : APART FROM TIME MATERIAL,HOW IS ARUN SHARMA FOR DILR,
govindrajan : TIME material provides comprehensive exposure to various difficulty levels of LRDI questions. You may think of other material only after completing TIME material. Keeping too many books around leads to stress. You may end up going through each material partially.

shivalik : HEY THERE. FOR LRDI HOW TO RETAIN SO MUCH INFO. LIKE I START DOING TILL END COUPLE OF POINTS FALL OFF MY MIND HOW TO REATIN THAT AND ALL
govindrajan : Once you read the initial few lines of a puzzle/DI set, you will get to know what kind of puzzle/DI set we are going to solve. This way we can have a smooth flow of thought process and take less time to solve.

gk : FOR THE LRDI SECTION IN AIMCATS HOW DO WE KNOW WHEN TO ABANDON A SET BECAUSE USUALLY I AM NOT ABLE TO FIGURE IT OUT,I FEEL IF I SPEND 5 MORE MINS I CAN CRACK IT BUT SOME HOW I CAN'T AND I LOSE OUT ON TIME,LATER WHEN I SEE SEE THE SOLUTIONS I SEE THAT THERE WERE EASIER ONES,IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO ABOUT IT WHILE PREPARING FOR THE SECTION?
govindrajan : The situation of abandoning does not arise if you take up a standard approach. You may take a little more time while solving a puzzle, but need not drop half a through. Once you read the initial few lines of a puzzle/DI set, you will get to know what kind of puzzle/DI set we are going to solve. This does not take more than 30 to 40 seconds. Give a quick read to the given data spending about a minute time. Do not try to analyse the information at this stage. Spend a couple of minutes to read the questions and the type of answer choices. a : ON WHAT BASIS SHOULD I CHOOSE THE STREAM IN MBA, WHETHER FINANCE, MARKETING OR BUSINESS ANALYST?
shashidar : Don't jump the gun, yet! The first year is common to all the students & you'll be able to figure out your comfort level/passion for certain subjects...That should guide you on your specialization

a : HOW TO IMPROVE MY GRAMMER AND VOCABULARY?
lakshmymenon : Attend our classes, study from our grammar and vocabulary study materials. When you read any article, look up the meanings of tough words and note them down in a notebook. Revise this regularly.

rajkalyan : I COULD UNDERSTAND CONCEPTS WHILE ATTENDING CLASSES BUT WHILE PRACTICING I FEEL COMPLETELY BLANK....WHAT SHALL I DO? HOW TO PREPARE
govindrajan : You need to practice more from basic study material, and classroom material one more time after the class.

a : IS READING NEWSPAPER IS MUST TO DO FOR PURSUING MBA?
lakshmymenon : whether you get the news from the newspaper or some other source does not matter, but you should definitely have a good grip over current affairs. Classroom discussions will often involve references to current news.

a : WHAT IS THE APPROXIMATE TIME TO COMPLETE ONE QUESTION?
sunildua : As long as it takes to do it correctly. Focus on accuracy more than the speed.

hocd4a160 : SINCE TIME IS LESS CAN I GO FOR SECTIONAL TEXT DIRECTLY AFTER ATTENDING CLASSES
gurdeepgill : Preferably solve a few practise exercises from the TIME study material - it allows to cement concepts learnt in class. Thereafter, if so desired, you may jump to the intermediate sectional tests. However, there is enough time available to follow the course structure if a robust time table is planned and adhered to.

yogesh : HOW MANY LRDI SET SHOULD I DO DAILY TO IMPROVE MY LRDI SECTION AND WHAT OTHER THAN THAT I CAN DO TO IMPROVE LRDI
govindrajan : You need to build a standard approach. Once you build such approach, you will be able to understand the given data faster. Once you read the initial few lines of a puzzle/DI set, you will get to know what kind of puzzle/DI set we are going to solve. This does not take more than 30 to 40 seconds. anusha : HOW MANY RC SHOULD BE SOLVED A DAY ?
shashidar : Mimic the CAT. Pick up 4 RCs, set a time limit of 30 minutes, start with the easiest passage, answer all the Qs, do the same with the next easiest, then try to answer the direct Qs in the other two passages. Do what all you can in those 30 minutes. Check your performance. THEN, attempt the left out Qs with a 3/4 minute time limit for each Q to see how good/bad was your choice of Qs you attempted

khushi : TELL THE TIME TALBE IN EXAM TIME THAT SHOULD BE FOLLOWED? ALSO, I FEEL THAT MY TIME IS GETTING WASTED IN THE OFFLINE COACHING. DO YOU FEEL THE FACULTY AT TIMES ONLINE IS GOOD?
shashidar : Why do you feel the offline mode is a waste? Face to face interactions are always more effective. In any case, our tutors who take online sessions are the same who teach offline

a : WHAT ARE THE TOP B SCHOOLS WITH GOOD PLACEMENTS IN CHENNAI?
shashidar : In Chennai city...IIT Madras, GLIM, LIBA, IFMR

a : AFTER COMPLETING THE EXAM, I CALCULATE THE SCORE AND IF I GET A GOOD SCORE THEN DOES THAT MEAN I'LL GET GOOD PERCENTILE TOO FOR SURE?
sunildua : Yes, if it is coming with consistency.

a : I FEEL LIKE I'M NOT GOOD AT SIMPLE CALCULATIONS, SO CAN I MAKE USE OF THE CALCULATOR FOR ALL THE QUESTIONS AND STILL HAVE TIME EFFICIENCY?
sunildua : No please. Make sure you are comfortable doing mental calculations of the tables upto 30.

pm : WHEN I AM ATTEMPTING ANY PASSAGE . I COULD NOT RETAIN THE DATA WHICH I HAVE READ. AND THE FOR THE QUESTION I AGAIN HAVE TO GO BACK TO THE PASSAGE. MY ACCURACY IS COMING VERY LOW. LIKE IF THERE ARE 5 QUESTION IN A PASSAGE . I AM ONLY ABLE TO SOLVE APPROAX 1-2 QUESTIONS AND REST ALL GETS WRONG. WHAT SHOULD I DO
lakshmymenon : First of all, it is the right approach to go back to the passage and verify specific details before answering. This will help with accuracy. Read each option carefully, then compare with what is written in the passage. Try to eliminate one option by looking for distortions, out of context references etc. If you're still confused, just leave the question. Even 2 attempts out of 4 with perfect accuracy can get you very high percentiles.

bhca4a382 : WHILE ATTEMPTING A RC PARAGRAPH I USUALLY GET ONLY 2-3 QUESTIONS OUT OF 5 WITH 50% ACCUARACY WHAT CAN I DO BEST TO MAKE ALL ANSWERS CORRECT OR ATTEMPT ONLY QUESTIONS WITH CORRECT ANSWERS TO IMPROVE MY EFFICIENCY?
gurdeepgill : 3 correct answers out of 5 questions at this juncture is a reasonably good performance. To enhance your accuracy, analyze the incorrect answers and identify the reasons that contributed. Avoid making that mistake next time. Attempt all the questions during practise to ensure exposure and confidence while committing only to 'correct answers' during tests to ensure accuracy and performance.

bhca4a382 : AND IN DILR SECTION IN SOME SETS THERE ARE USUALLY MANY NUMBER OF CASES WHICH I COME ACROSS AND IN THOSE SETS USUALLY I SPEND TIME IN THINKING HOW TO SOLVE AND EVENTUALLY I WONT BE ABLE TO PROCEED IN THAT SET , HOW TO OVERCOME THIS PROBLEM?
govindrajan : Before solving a set have a look at the questions. Incase the questions have 'if' conditions (like, If A is the tallest, then who will be the second richest person?) it is an indication that from the given data you will get multiple caes. In such sets, take the given data and arrive at the partial solution. Then answer each question independently by applying the additional information given in the question. Some questions may not have 'if' conditions, but there may be multiple cases. In such situations, go to questions with partial solution instead of spending time in writing down all possible cases.

gk : IN VA QUESTIONS WHERE WE HAVE TO FILL IN A GIVEIN SENTENCE IN A PARAGRAPH,I FEEL LIKE I CAN'T SOLVE SUCH QUESTIONS,EITHER I FEEL THAT THE SENTENCE FITS IN ALL THE BLANKS POSSIBLE OR I JUST CAN'T FIGURE ANYTHING OUT,SHOULD I SOLVE THESE KIND OF QUESTIONS BY ELIMINATING THE OPTIONS OR CHECK THE LOGIC OF WHERE IT FITS ?
lakshmymenon : Start reading the para. Then, try fitting the sentence in each blank and read on, seeing if it makes sense. Try to eliminate 2 blanks, and then compare the remaining two by placing the sentence in each of them and reading it together. Look for patterns of idea flow such as general-specific, cause-effect etc. Also do not miss any connectives, pronouns etc. which may give you clues.

harii : HI THERE! I STARTED TO GIVE SECTIONAL TESTS, BUT THE RESULTS ARE KINDA FLUCTUATING AND IT'S AFFECTING MY CONFIDENCE A LOT. COULD YOU GIVE ME SOME VALUABLE SUGGESTIONS SO THAT I CAN ACE IT WELL IN THE UPCOMING TESTS?
sunildua : Don't worry too much about the score. Make sure you can handle different types questions with ease. Read the solutions carefully. Questions answered wrongly teach us many lessions.

kcxa4a159 : AS A STUDENT OF BCOM HONOURS IN SEN 4 GAVING TO CONCENTRATE BOTH ON MY GRADUATION COURSE AND CAT PREPARATION, PLEAESE CHART OUT A TIME TABLE!
sunildua : The timetable is to be designed by you according to your needs and priorities. This is the era of multitasking and most of the MBA aspirants are studying or working along with preparing for the entrance exams.

rishita : I NEED A RESOURCE WHICH GIVES ME 3 RCS AND 4 LRDI QUESTIONS EVERYDAY , IS THERE ANYTHING AS SUCH WHICH CAN HELP ME?
sunildua : Don't practise RC questions everyday. Maybe twice or thrice a week. Focus on building your vocab, reading ability without getting distracted and basics of grammar.

gk : WHEN WILL THE REST OF THE AIMCATS START,I CAN'T SEE THE SCHEDULE ON MY SHP ?
gurdeepgill : Please get in touch with your TIME centre. They will help you with information wrt the AIMCAT schedule.

a : IN THE CLASS, THEY SUGGESTED TO KNOW ROOT WORDS. SO CAN I ONLY FOCUS ON THIS INSTEAD OF KNOWING NEW WORDS, IS THAT HELPFUL?
gurdeepgill : No - root words are a supplementary tool and do not replace learning of new words as a substitute. Both contribute substantially to an enhanced vocabulary.

a : IMMEDIATELY AFTER COMPLETING CAT EXAM, WHERE CAN I GET THE SOLUTIONS TO CHECK MY ANSWERS?
gurdeepgill : The solutions / correct answers are available only after CAT releases the official answer key shortly after the CAT.

prashanth : IS THE TIME ENOUGH FROM NOW FOR CAT PREPARATION?
gurdeepgill : Yes, there is enough time to perform very well provided you bring to bear your best efforts on all counts.
