First of all you have to be well versed with basics of each individual topics and then solved handout and questions from the text-book provided to you. If you really want to cultivate the habit of reading, the best way is to walk into a bookstore, look at the best sellers section (non-fiction) and pick the books that interest you. There is no point in reading things that you find boring.

For this, do a word count of the article or excerpt you have chosen. Then set the timer at a reading speed of 200 - 250 words per minute. Finish reading the article by the time the timer goes off - this means you have to keep checking the timer too. gayathri : i would suggest not to byheart the words.Instead you read them twice daily. after a few days you try to recollect them. it will have been registered in your mind. you may improve your comprehension skill by reading more, Find topics that you find interest in. keep reading. write short summaries( neednt be full sentences. noting down the points would be enough). then analyse whether your summary has done justice to the passage/paragraph you have read. make this a practice. gradually your reading and comprehension skill will improve.
