Chat on preparation tips for CAT 2017!
(Chat Transcript)

amit : HELLO SIR!
asim : Hello, what is your query?

rajesh12 : CAN WE WRITE CAT MORE THAN ONCE?
vinnayraj : yes..there is no limit on the number of times one can attempt cat although it is conducted once a year and the score card is also valid for one year..

pramod : WHAT IS THAT CUTOFF GIVEN IN AIMCAT??
bhuvanaganesh : what is your query

rajesh12 : APART FROM CAT WHAT ARE THE OTHER IMPORTANT EXAMS THAT I SHOULD FRO MBA
swapnila : The exams you write should depend on the colleges you plan to apply to.However here are a few apart from CAT that you could write : XAT,IIFT,SNAP (for symbiosis),NMAT

xyz : SIR PLZ GIVE SOME TIPS TO INCREASE VOCABULARY
sumit : Reading newspaper editorials/magazines/novels help a lot,esp in understanding the usage of the word.A fast way to improve vocabulary is the RPS method-root word/prefix/suffix method. If you know the meanings of roots/prefixes/suffixes, you can correctly get the meanings of many related words.

rajesh12 : I AM NOT CONFIDENT CAN I SKIP AIMCATS
vinnayraj : initially you will find it difficult and as you cover more portions and gain experience you will fare better..try not to skip and take as many aimcats as possible..at this stage take the exam for acclimatization and understanding of the test and also to build patience and to learn to focus for three hours..

amit : I HAVE THE MOST OBVIOUS QUESTION...HOW DO I START PREPARING FOR CAT 17 FROM TODAY...I HAVE DONE SOME TOPICS...BUT MANY HAVE BEEN LEFT BEHIND AND I WANT TO RECOVER THEM AS WELL AS DO APPEAR FOR THE TESTS..WHA SHOULD BE THE STRATEGY?
vjs : You need to start preparation well in advance for a decent percentile to ensure the calls. recognise areas you are good at and areas you feel are difficult for you. Prepare a study plan and execute it. Also,go with the classes to cover certain topics.

muca7an12 : HOW DO I BECOME MORE EFFICIENT IN QUANT AND LR?
vjs : Along with the topics completed in class, revise your basics and strengthen your concepts. solve questions from practice papers

raghav : WHAT SHOULD BE PREPARATION PLAN FOR DI? I HAVEN'T STARTED IT YET
bhuvanaganesh : First step is learning speed maths. Analyse the data given in various format and answer to the question asked. You have to practice different kind of Data interpretation sets

rajesh12 : FOR MATHS, WE SHOULD LEARN MULTIPLICATION TABLE TILL WHAT NUMBER
vjs : Normally we recommend till 20 x20 = 400

abc : HI SIR, IS MEMORIZING ALL THE CUE CARDS HELPFUL?
swapnila : Rather than memorizing you could use the RPS method to learn new words. You would find a list of roots on you SHP.

sanya : SIR WHAT SHOULD I INITIALLY START WITH FOR PREPARING FOR CAT?
vinnayraj : to start with learn the fundamentals of all topics and get familiar with different types of questions..divide time more or less equally for all the sections..

bharathvasan : SIR,WHAT ARE THE SHORTCUTS TO BE REMEMBERED FOR QUANTS??
vinnayraj : at this stage more than the shortcuts the focus should be on learning the fundamentals of different topics..once you gain confidence and you have a thorough understanding of concepts the shortcuts can be figured out easily..and they are also specific to questions and cannot be used in all cases..so fundamentals are very important..

rajesh12 : @VJS SIR, I AM WEAK IN MATHS, GOOD IN ENGLISH, ANY TIPS PLEASE
vjs : Knowing Basics or concepts is the first step, then practise. Its ultimately skills that is most important key to the competitive exams. start form basic study material and refresh the concepts

muca7a300 : HOW MUCH MAXIMUM TIME I SHOULD DEVOTE FOR SCORING ABOVE 95PERCENTILE FROM APRIL ONWARDS
govindrajan : It depends on your present preparation levels. You spare enough time to cover one topic a day in each test area and take on line test the next day in those topics. Ideally it should be about 3 to 4 hours a day.

dlca7aja76 : HOW TO PREPARE FOR VOCAB SECTION
bhuvanaganesh : 1. Attend all vocab classes 2. Always learn new words under the guidance of a faculty 3. Read various articles under Science, current affairs, Sociology etc. By reading you will come across various different words and its usage 4. Refer dictionary and Thesaurus 5. WORD POWER MADE EASY by Norman Lewis and ALL ABOUT WORDS BY NURNBERG & Rosenblum are good books for improving vocabulary 6. Play vocabulary development games which are available in the net

raghav : HOW MUCH SHOULD I FOCUS ON VOCAB TO BE PREPARED FOR CAT17?
swapnila : We have already discussed the same in the chat. Please check the chat transcript.

pramod : WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE CUTOFF MENTIONED IN THE AIMCATS??
rajeshsaraf : Cut offs indicate 85 percentile mark. One should try and get at least that level in each of the three sections and overall.

muca7an12 : HOW MANY HOURS OF STUDY/NUMBER OF QUESTIONS OF QUANT SHOULD I DO FOR A GOOD SCORE?
vjs : There are nothing like number of hours. Using the AIMCAT analysis, you must analyse your strengths and weaknesses and plan your preparation accordingly, and You need to keep preparing till you are confident on the topic, and then keep revising regualarly.

sony : HI SIR CAN YOU PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW MANY IDEAL ATTEMPTS AT 99%-100% ACCURACY IN CAT EXAMS ACROSS THE VARIOUS SECTIONS IS REQUIRED TO GET ABOVE 98 PERCENTILE?
vinnayraj : it is very difficult to predict as it depends on the difficulty level and composition of the paper and also on the performance on the other candidates..in a difficult test you are required to solve fewer questions as opposed to a difficult one..

amit : SIR HOW SHOULD I MOVE AHEAD WITH MY PREPARATIONS? AND SHOULD I DO SECTIONAL TESTS RIGHT AFTER COMPLETING A CHAPTER OF QUANT OR FIRST GET THE DOUBTS SOLVED AND THEN TAKE THE TESTS?
rajeshsaraf : Go through the theory part + Solved examples + exercise Problems + get any doubts clarified. Then thereafter, write the tests (under time constraint). Try multiple approaches for different sets of topics. For e.g, for some other topic, go through concepts + solved examples + exercise problems and then straight to tests.

dlca7aja76 : WHAT IS DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COURSE OF BANK PO AND CAT?
govindrajan : The topics and the difficulty levels in each test area is different in the two exams. The test pattern is also different. One need different approach in preparation for different exams. Thus the courses are designed to suit the requirements.

akash123 : SIR WHAT SHOULD BE AN IDEAL SCHEDULE OF A STUDENT FOR CAT 17 WHO IS AVERAGE IN ALL THE THRE SECTIONS
vinnayraj : try to divide time as equally as possible to all the three sections on a regularly basis..try to clock around 4 to 5 hours a day..and maintain a daily reading schedule..

mucc6s035 : IIM SAMBALPUR OR SIMSREE
bhuvanaganesh : IIM Sambalpur has IIM tag

sanya : WHAT ALL SHOULD BE LEARNT FOR QUANTS LIKE SQUARES, CUBES AND ALL UPTO WHAT NUMBER?
vinnayraj : squares till around 32 ..cubes till about 12.. the more the better..but more important are ideas and concepts..

bharathvasan : AS WE START NOW HOW MANY HOURS TO BE SPENT PER DAY??
swapnila : The number of hours to be invested in preparing would depend on your level of preparation as well as strength & weaknesses. However an average of 3- 4 hours spread across subject areas could help.

akash123 : PLEASE TELL ME AN IDEAL WAY TO HANDLE ALL MATERIAL PROVIDED BY TIME IN ONLINE AS WELL AS OFFLINE FORMAT. HOW SHOULD I APPROACH AT THIS POINT OF TIME.
govindrajan : We provide you with basic study material in each test area. Once a topic is covered in the class, practice relevant exercise from the basic SM and also take on line basic test. After completion of two to three topics in a test area, take the relevant on line intermediate test. All the online tests are available on SHP. You may take online advance tests once in a weak.

abc : I AM SCORING ALMOST 60%TILE IN MY AIMCAT'S....IS IT POSSIBLE FOR ME TO CROSS 95%TILE TILL I TAKE THE CAT EXAM...
vinnayraj : yes it is..a lot of students have been in your situation previously and have gone on to score very high in cat(some even above 98 and 99+).continue with your preparation and hard work and you will see your scores improve..moreover some students dont score very well in aimcats initially due to the novelty and scare factor but once they get the hang of taking tests they improve greatly..

xyz : SIR WILL OUR CAT PREP HELP IN BANK PO EXAMS ALSO?
sumit : The exam pattern is v different for the two. The approach towards the exam as well as test taking strategy is completely different. It is not just about having same topics.

santosh : AS YOU MENTIONED RPS METHOD,WHAT ARE METHODS TO BE FOLLOWED FOR THIS
swapnila : Root Prefix Suffix also called as etymology.Going through a list of roots and then practicing guessing the meaning of the word from the roots would help build vocabulary.

bharathvasan : SNAP, XAT, NMAT DOES FOLLOW THE SAME PATTERN AS OF CAT??
bhuvanaganesh : No the exam pattern of SNAP, XAT and NMAT are different. Difficulty levels are different. Please check the previous year papers

sanya : SIR I FIND DI A BIT THOUGH WHAT SHOULD I DO TO IMPROVE IT?
rajeshsaraf : 1) Practice Speed Maths 2) get exposure to different models of qs 3) More than 40% of the qs are related to percentages alone (so you have to be very good in Percentages) 4) Understand different types of charts 5) Solve puzzles. There will be many sets which are of integrated type (Logic + Calculations + plenty of reading to do)

amit : SIR SHOULD WE STUDY ALL THE THREE SUBJECTS IN ONE DAY OR TWO IN ONE DAY?
vjs : Go with class pace of the class.

dks : IMT NAGPUR AND NL DALMIA ARE BOTH IN SAME CATEGORY, PLS ADVICE WHICH IS BETTER
bhuvanaganesh : Intake is more in IMT Nagpur and location Mumbai is better than Nagpur. So NL Dalmia is better

katy : @RAJESH SIR AT MY CMAT SCORE OF 72.3 %ILE, IS IT POSSIBLE TO CONVERT WELINGKAR MUMBAI? IS IT WORTH BUYING THE FORM,NOW? ACADS: 88,78,71. NO WORK EX.
rajeshsaraf : Very unlikely. The chances are remote for conversion

trunks : SIR CONVERTED SDMIMD,PSGIM WISHING TO JOIN ONE AMONG THEM,GIVE ME ORDER AMONG THEM TO JOIN
bhuvanaganesh : PSG Coimbatore

akash123 : SIR PLEASE TELL STRATEGY FOR LRDI IN DETAIL
vinnayraj : first get familiar with different types of questions sets..once you solve more questions of similar type you will get comfortable with solving them in the tests and also you will be able to figure out how much time it takes for a particular set and whether it has to be attempted at all..

abc : DO U SUGGEST LEAVING A JOB FOR CAT PREPARATION?
vinnayraj : not required unless there are compelling professional reasons to do so..many candidates manage both work and preparations efficiently and succeed too..so it is possible to crack without quitting your job..quitting also adds to the pressure..

dks : SIES OR NL DALMIA, PLS ADVICE
swapnila : SIES for both MMS as well as PG

isha : I AM NOT GETTING WHAT TO STUDY AND FROM WHERE TO START?.IN WHICH TOPUC WE CAN SCORE MORE LIKE QUANT LOGIC OR DI
rajeshsaraf : Take one area for e.g, Quant. There are about 27 chapters. Start with any chapter -say Simple Equations or Numbers. Try and complete that thoroughly from the basic booklets provided to you. (I am assuming you are a class room student or if not, get hold of a good book in Quant). Once, you complete a chapter, solve the exercise problems and then write tests. Do the same way for other chapters as well. For RC/Verbals, Reading, Reading and Only Reading matter. The more you read and on variety of topics, it would help. For LR, there are about 8-9 chapters like Arrangement, Selection, Distribution, venn diagram, Cubes etc which are important. Start from any of these topics.

amit : SIR AS I AM LAGGING BEHIND WITH THE CLASS' SCHEDULE CURRENTLY,SO WHAT CORRECT APPROACH SHOULD I FOLLOW IN ORDER TO COME BACK ON TRACK AS WELL AS COMPLETE THE SYLLABUS ON TIME IN ORDER TO START THE MOCKS ASAP?
vjs : First come to the level of class topics. You may plan for doubt clarifying sessions. Once you come to the class pace then maintain the same.

akash123 : I AM A CLASSROOM STUDENT SIR, BUT I LOST THE PACE WITH CLASS. PLEASE TELL ME WHATTO DO NOW AS SYLLABUS IS ALMOST COMPLETED IN CLASS
bhuvanaganesh : consult with your center counsellor, change to a new batch and attend classes from the begining

pramod : I'M FEELING SOME TOPICS DIFFICULT WHILE PRACTISING, SO SHOULD I SKIP PREPARING FOR THOSE TOPICS??
vinnayraj : you may feel so if you have never done those topics before..but with time you are likely to find them manageable..dont skip any topic..atleast learn the fundamentals and try to solve the basic level questions as we never know from what topic the easy questions come in the exam

muca7a300 : I AM AVERAGE STUDENT FROM COMMERCE BACKGROUND 4-5 HOURS IS ENOUGH FOR STUDY AND SCORING GOOD MARKS ?
sumit : Yes,you are talking of per day right? You should chalk out a study plan for yourself. This should include revising the basics done in class & then attempting more questions on the topic from the study material. Then you should go ahead & attempt the sectional tests given on the student homepage.

amit : I TAKE 4-5 MINUTES TO SOLVE A QUESTION IN THE EXERCISES OF OUR QUANT SECTION...AND 15-20 MINS FOR THAT OF AN LR/DI SET..HOW DO I ACHIEVE THE REQUIRED EFFICIENCY AND ACCURACY?
govindrajan : The more you practice you gain speed. Regular practice makes all the difference. During your initial practice period do not bother about the how much time you are taking. You should think about it if you do not find improvement in speed even after a couple of months of practice.

sony : SIR I AM HAVING A LOT OF TROUBLE WITH HIGHER MATHEMATICS CHAPTERS. HOW CAN I DETERMINE WHICH CHAPTERS TO GIVE LESS IMPORTANCE TO GET A GOOD SCORE? CAN I LEAVE BEHIND SOME CHAPTERS I FIND TOO DIFFICULT?
rajeshsaraf : At this stage, it is recommended not to start with the idea that some chapters have to be left out. It's all there in the mind. You have plenty of time. Start with any one chapter. For e.g, try completing 'Numbers" the length and breadth of it. This one chapter alone will boost your confidence like anything.

bharathvasan : DOES UG GRADES ARE IMPORTANT FOR ENTERING IIM?
vinnayraj : different iims have different weightage for previous academic scores including ug grades..it is better to aim for as high a score as possible in ug if you are still studying..iim calcutta doesnt give any weightage to ug score..

jai : OFF THE TOPIC, IS THERE A CHANCE OF 3RD LIST OF TAPMI, MINE SHOWS WAIT FOR THE NEXT ANNOUNCEMENT...THANKS FOR THE REPLY
bhuvanaganesh : please check their site

sony : I HAVE HEARD DOING THE BASIC STUDY MATERIAL OF TIME FOR QA SECTION CAN HELP US GET MAXIMUM QUESTIONS CORRECT IN CAT? IS IT TRUE? WHAT OTHER BOOKS SHOULD WE PRACTICE FROM AND HOW MUCH TIME AND EFFORTS TO BE DEVOTED TOWARDS THAT?
vinnayraj : time material including study material, online sectional tests and aimcats is more than sufficient and it is comprehensive to prepare for cat and ace the test..

bharathvasan : SIR, IS IT ENOUGH IF WE COMPLETE A CHAPTER PER DAY?
rajeshsaraf : Generally it takes time to complete a chapter. May be about 3-4 hrs (doing both the exercises +theory etc everything from any chapter). Try not to force a time limit in the early stage. Even if it takes 1 week for any chapter, that's Ok. Start slow but be steady and make sure you have a firm grip on the concepts

jig2305 : EVEN IF I SOLVE A QUESTION ,THE METHOD THAT I USE TAKE ALOT OF TIME I AM NOT ABLE TO INCULCATE THE EASIER METHOD TAUGHT TO US ,WHAT TO DO?
vjs : It may happen when you initially work on them once you attend the lectures then you will surely develop short cuts.

jig2305 : I AM NOT ABLE TO STUDY ALONG WITH MY OFFICE HOW SHOULD I MANAGE MY TIME?
sumit : Utilise the weekends... extend your day by sleeping an hour late or getting up early. This way you will be able to make time for your CAT preparation.

akash123 : SIR I ATTENDED THE CLASSES AND I KNOW THE COCEPTS BUT I DIDN'T PRACTICED DUE TO COLLEGE SCHEDULE.. ALSO IT WILL BE HELPFUL IF YOU CAN HELP ME WITH A DAILY SCHEDULE.. MY COLLEGE TIMINGS ARE 9:30 AM TO 6PM AND I HAVE CLASSES AT 6:30 IN ALTERNATE DAYS.@BHUVANAGANESH
bhuvanaganesh : you please consult with a faculty member to frame a schedule for your preparation and follow the schedule for CAT 17 preparation

bharathvasan : WHAT IS THE MINIMUM UG SCORE EXPECTED FOR IIMS?
vinnayraj : minimum required is 50 percent for general category..this is the required eligibility to write the test..but in their selection criteria different range of marks are given different weightage..

akash123 : SIR TIME GIVES SUFFICIENT MATERIAL.AT BHOPAL CENTRE, WE ALSO HAVE CAT+ CLASSES WHICH ARE CLASSES BY DIRECTORS. WE APPRECIATE TIME FOR SUPPORTAND GUIDANCE
govindrajan : Thank you.

: I AM AN AVERAGE STUDENT , I NEED TIPS HOW TO PREPARE FOR CAT 2017 AS THERE IS ONLY 7 MONTHS LEFT ??
rajeshsaraf : Two things form the central idea behind preparation - Read as much as you can on variety of topics. 2) DO as much amount of calculations on a daily basis, like addition, subtraction, % calculations, averages, ratio,LCM, HCF. These two points will make a huge difference.

abc : OUR RC/VA FACULTY SUGGESTED READING NOVELS AS A METHOD FOR IMPROVING VOCAB...IS THIS THE ONLY WAY?
vinnayraj : it is one of the effective ways..you can also read newspapers, magazines, blogs, online articles.you can also take the help of cue cards and learn to use words in your own constructed sentences and also try to relate a particular word in your mother tongue..

sony : SIR I AM VERY SCARED FOR THE GD PI SESSIONS. I FUMBLE WHILE SPEAKING DUE TO NERVOUSNESS. EVEN IF I HAVE ALL MY THOUGHTS LINED UP SOMETIMES I JUST GO BLANK AND DON'T FIND WORDS TO EXPRESS MYSELF? HOW DO YOU RECOMMEND I GET BACK MY CONFIDENCE?
bhuvanaganesh : TIME conducts GDPI sessions after the exam results. It will be very helpful to you

akash123 : SIR MOST OF THE TIME I USED TO GET DEPRESSED DUE TO MY 12TH PERCENTAGE WHICH ARE 76.60. ALSO I AM A GEM, SO I USED TO GET DEMOTIVATED SOME OF THE TIME. PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO COPE UP WITH THESE THOUGHTS
bhuvanaganesh : If you get good percentile in CAT then you can get into top B schools

hlca7a008 : IS IT THE IDEAL TIME TO START CAT PREP
vinnayraj : it is good to start asap..the sooner the better..

hlca7a008 : BEING FROM A NON-ENGINEERING BACKGROUND HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR QUANT AND LR
bhuvanaganesh : First step: Revise the basics. Second step: Practice

hlca7a008 : HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD I DEVOTE DAILY FOR CAT PREP
rajeshsaraf : Generally, about 5-6 hrs daily. But again, the quality of time which you put in matters

sony : SIR DO FRESHER STUDENTS NEED TO HAVE A VERY ATTRACTIVE CO CURRICULAR PROFILE ALONG WITH ACADEMICS TO GET INTO IIMS? WHAT ADD ON COURSES DO YOU RECOMMEND DOING FOR SOMEONE HAVING AN AMBITION TO PURSUE MBA IN FIANCE? DO I NEED TO DO MY INTERNSHIP DURING GRADUATION (I'M A B.COM STUDENT)?
vinnayraj : extra curricular involvements and achievements will certainly help during the interview but not in the first stage..so the most important factor is cracking the test..if you can manage certification courses or internship it will be a bonus but it is no mandatory..

jig2305 : HOW TO NOT LET OUR DOUBTS GET ACCUMLATED, INSTEAD GET THEM RESOLVED FROM TIME TO TIME?
vinnayraj : you can talk to your faculty members after the class or meet them at a scheduled time by requesting..

akash123 : PLEASE TELL THE GOOD BOOKS TO READ FROM SCRATCH I MEAN I AM NOT A REGULAR READER BUT I LOVE THE GOOD ONES WITH DECENT CONTENT. IT WILL BE HELPFUL IF YOU CAN MENTION SOME OF YOU FAVOURITES ;)
swapnila : Would you need reading help from CAT perspective or in general to inculcate a reading habit ?

sanya : SIR I HAVE 3 MONTHS HOLIDAY AND I AM PREPARING FOR CAT'17
vjs : 3 months a decent time for preparing for CAT

amit : I GET 2-3 DOUBTS IN A CHAPTER AFTER TAKING THE HELP OF THE SOLUTION BOOKLET....SO SHOULD I APPLY FOR A DOUBT SESSION WITH THOSE THREE DOUBTS ONLY OR SHOULD I COLLECTIVELY ASK DOUBTS OF 2-3 CHAPTERS?
govindrajan : For two or three doubts you can approach faculty member when you attend the classes. If you have more you may request for a doubts session.

hlca7a008 : ARE WEEKEND CLASSES BETTER THAN WEEKDAY CLASSES
rajeshsaraf : Weekend/week day batches are there looking at different set of requirements. The quality of teaching OR the material support provided are all same

sony : SIR YOU MENTIONED ATTENDING GDPI SESSIONS WITH TIME AFTER EXAM RESULTS TO BOOST MY CONFIDENCE. WON'T IT BE A LITTLE TOO LATE FOR MY PREPARATION?
rajeshsaraf : I am assuming you are referring to CAT 2017. Maximum one month of preparation is enough. GDPI will happen in the month of Feb 2018. As of now, the most crucial deciding factor is the written test. if you get 100 percentile, then well...... GDPI not an issue

sanya : WHAT SHOULD BE AN IDEAL STUDY PLAN TAKING ALL THE 3 SECTIONS INTO CONSIDERATION?
revanth : Hi Sanya. Please go through the Study Material & concentrate on classes. Start taking tests that are present in Student Homepage. Please meet the Mentor near your centre for the appropriate Study Plan.

bharathvasan : SIR, COULD YOU SUGGEST SOME WEBSITES/LINKS FOR READING ARTICLES?
swapnila : You could check the RC links uploaded on your SHP.

jig2305 : I REVISE MY NOTES , READ MY STUDY MATERIAL ,AND DO THE HANDOUTS BEFORE CLASS BUT STILL I AM NOT ABLE TO SOLVE THE QUESTIONS IN CLASS I GET DISCOURAGED, WHAT MORE SHOD I DO?
govindrajan : Do not bother about not being able to solve in the class room, since you are able to solve otherwise. Do not come under peer pressure. Your performance in the online tests matter not what happens in the class room.

akash123 : SIR MATERIAL IS SO MUCH AND TIME IS LESS...NEWSPAPER,NOVELS,HANDOUTS,STUDY MATERIAL,CLASSES,ONLINE TESTS,VIDEOS, AND COLLEGE STUDIES TOO. SIR HOW DID EARLIER TOP SCORERSMANAGES ALL THIS PRESSURE?
sumit : If you take up things systematically, your confidence will grow & the pressure will be let off. You can't do everything together.Divide your week into 3 parts- devote 2 days each for VA,DI/LR,QA.Sit with your faculty & chalk out a study plan.

: HOW TO PREPARE FOR QUANTATIVE APITUTUDE ??
vjs : First You finish the materials thoroughly and go for online tests To develop that Comfort level, Focus on quality hours than quantity of time.

bharathvasan : IS IT ENOUGH IF WE USE RC ON SHP?
swapnila : For reading, yes. You would also have to use and practice section test for being able to score in the RC section.

akash123 : @SWAPNILA.. SIR BOTH.. READING HABIT ALONGWITH CAT PERSPECTIVE.. ONE ARROW TWO GOALS ;)
swapnila : You could use the RC links uploaded on the SHP.Apart from that you could try reading semi-fiction books on diverse back grounds like Historical fiction , war fiction , political fiction etc.Hope this helps.

ipsita : CAN YOU RECOMMEND WHAT MAGAZINES, BLOGS AND ONLINE ARTICLES ONE SHOULD LOOK FOR A GOOD QUALITY READ?
revanth : Hi Ipsita. Please focus on study material and classes first. Regarding extra material, please go through the magazine provided by T.I.M.E. every month.

zukhruf : AS MY MAIN AIM IS SIBM PUNE SO WHAT SHOULD I DO OTHER THAN CAT PREPARATION FOR GOOD SCORE IN SNAP?
vinnayraj : it is good to be focused on what you want but it is wise to keep your options open and have back up plans..so prepare for both the exams..

zukhruf : WHEN IS THE RIGHT TIME TO COMPLETE THE SYLLABUS OF DIFFERENT SUBJECTS?
bhuvanaganesh : one month before the exam

zyx : WHATS THE PERCENTILE ONE NEEDS TO SECURE TO GET A CALL UNDER PWD CATEGORY FROM IIM A B C?
vinnayraj : iima sectional cut offs are at 60 60 60 and an overall cutoff of 70 iimc sectional cut offs are at 65 65 65 and an overall cutoff of 70

bunty : SIR ,I'M VERY POOR IN VA.CAN U SUGGEST SOME PORTIONS FROM WHERE I COULD START MY VA PREPARATION
swapnila : You could start working on RC by using the RC links on SHP. Apart from this you could work on PFQ and invest time and efforts on building your vocab.

bharathvasan : SIR I AM DOING A COURSE (DIPLOMA IN BUSINESS AND ADMINISTRATION).. WILL IT BE CONSIDERED DURING PI?
vjs : Yes! do expect questions from your course.

sony : WHAT TO DO TO KEEP OURSELVES MOTIVATED ALL THE TIME AND NOT GET DEPRESSED OR SIDE TRACKED DURING PREPARATION?
bhuvanaganesh : Please dream about your life after getting into TOP B schools. It will motivate you

abc : I AM GOOD IN DI/LR BUT POOR IN RC/VA AND ALSO TAKE ALMOST 3-4 MIN FOR SOLVING QUANTS PROBLEMS....PLZ SUGGEST HOW TO IMPROVE IN THESE 2 SECTIONS
sumit : The RC part of the VA section is important as more than 60% of the questions are from RC.Attempt the exercises given in your study material.Go through the explanations where you are unable to differentiate between options.Reading also gives you a hang of paragraph structures which helps in solving the para jumbles ¶ completions.

gwcb7a003 : 7 MONTHS LEFT HOW TO PREPARE FOR CAT 2017??
bhuvanaganesh : Preapare a plan for CAT 17. Divide the portions month wise and area wise. Work accordingly

megha : WHAT IS THE BEST WAY OF DIVIDING EQUAL
bhuvanaganesh : what is your query

zukhruf : IL GIVE ALL THE EXAMS LIKE NMAT SNAP IIFT XAT BUT OTHER THAN THE CAT LIKE WHAT IS NOT COVER IN CAT
govindrajan : As far as quant and verbal parts are concerned the basic concepts required are covered for CAT are enough for other exams as well. You need to take the relevant mock tests to understand the specific test dynamics and the flavour of the questions. While reasoning requires separate preparation. Most of the reasoning questions in other topics are more of speed test. We provide separate study material for this.

akash123 : SIR PLEASE TELL US ABOUT SAMCATS AND REVISION MODULE. WHEN WILL THEY COME AND BY WHAT TIME SHOULD WE FINSH OUR BASIC MATERIAL. ALSO, DO TIME REMOVES THE TEST AFTER A SPECIFIC PERIOD?
govindrajan : Tests will remain on your SHP till the end of the course. SAMCATS are based on previous CAT exams. Very soon SAMCATS will be uploaded. please check SHP for schedule. Online tests provide you revision at various difficulty levels. Majority of the online tests are already uploaded. Take the tests in a planned manner.

pulkit : SIR HOW I AM PREPARE FOR VA /RC
swapnila : Already answered. Please check chat transcripts.

megha : SIR I HAVE DOUBTS IN QUANT IS THERE ANY ONLINE SITE WHERE I CAN CLARIFY MY DOUBTS?
vjs : You approach near by T.I.M.E office and get the schedule of doubt clarifying sessions.

amit : SIR WHAT IS THE IDEAL TIME TO START GIVING MOCKS? A FRIEND OF MINE HASNT EVEN COMPLETED THE SYLLABUS BUT IS GIVING MOCKS RIGHT AWAY...AND THAT IS CONFUSING ME IF I SHOULD DO THE SAME..EVEN I HAVE NOT COMPLETED THE SYLLABUS.
vinnayraj : even if you havent completed the syllabus you can take a couple of mocks to understand the composition ,test structure , get used to test conditions,to understand question selection and very importantly to train your body and mind to focus and concentrate for three hour duration

gwcb7a003 : IN QUANTATIVE APTITUDE , WHICH SUBJECTS ARE IMPORTANT TO STUDY ??
bhuvanaganesh : Please give equal importance to all the topics

muca5n548 : DO THE CORRESPONDENCE STUDENTS ALSO GET HANDOUTS LIKE THE CLASSROOM STUDENTS
swapnila : No.

abhi : SIR I'M A GEM 95.89-CAT FRESHER 10TH-93.1 12TH-90 BTECH-69 CAN I GET IIM JAMMU PROVIDED THEY DON'T CONDUCT GD PI AND DIRECTLY GIVE ADMISSIONS
revanth : Hi Abhi. That'll depend on the relative performance of other students as well. So please wait for the result to be announced.

pulkit : SI I HAVE COMPLETED MY BASIC OF QA ND LR DI BUT CANT FINISH MY ENGLISH MATERIAL SO HOW CAN I COMPLETE
rajeshsaraf : Completing the basics of Quant, LR is a very general statement. You need to be absolutely crystal clear with. In Quant alone, there are close to 3000 distinct models of qs. For e.g, say Geometry and Mensuration, taking into account all the theory, concepts, key questions, there would be over 300 such distinct models of ideas. Similarly, in LR about 10 chapters. For a very good grip, per chapter, there could be about 30 sets which are crucial to solve. So, you will have to get into the numbers. For English, for CAT, just two things matter -> RC + Para Jumbles. Vocab is not a major element. The passages can come from any area -Science, Social, Philosophy, Sociology etc. You have to read on all the variety of topics which come your way.

dlca7aja76 : ITS BECOMING REALLY DIFFICULT TO PREPARE FOR CAT ALONG WITH REGULAR COLLEGE.DO YOU HAVE ANY TIPS ABOUT IT?
vinnayraj : focus on cat preparation more at the beginning of the semester and during holidays and during your college exams priority should be course study..it is possible to balance both and a lot of students manage and succeed..you need the will and effective planning..

karlos : REPEATING MY QUESTION_AT MY CMAT SCORE OF 72.3 %ILE, IS IT POSSIBLE TO CONVERT WELINGKAR MUMBAI? IS IT WORTH BUYING THE FORM,NOW? ACADS: 88,78,71. NO WORK EX. PLEASE ANSWER, LAST DATES ARE APPROACHING!!!
rajeshsaraf : very less chances for conversion

bharathvasan : WHAT IS THE PERCENTILE REQUIRED FOR IIM A B C UNDER NON-CREAMY LAYER?
bhuvanaganesh : Please visit http://www.time4education.com/CAT-MBA/Admission-Criteria/IIM-Admission-Criteria for more details

1 : 10-91%,12-85%,BTECH-93%, WORK EX-2 YEARS, GENERAL, I HAVE BEEN SELECTED IN IIFT, I DO NOT HAVE ANY OTHER CALLS DUE TO 90 PERCENTILE IN CAT. SHALL I GO AHEAD WITH IIFT OR TRY AGAIN NEXT YEAR
vinnayraj : iift is one of top colleges and you can consider joining..but if you are very determined to join one of the top 5 b schools and are willing to work hard and go through the arduous task of preparation again and are willing to take risk you can consider writing again..it is a very personal decision..

gwcb7a003 : IN LR IN WHICH AREAS I HAVE TO FOCUS?
rajeshsaraf : Seating Arrangement (Linear, Circular), Distribution (Matching of multiple variables), Cubes, Venn diagrams, Comparison, Selection, Binary Logic, Quant based reasoning (very important), etc

dks : SIR, IS IT WORTH TO JOIN ISB FOR PGP PROGRAMMES AFTER 2 YEARS OF JOB EXPERIENCE. DO WE GET BETTER JOB OPENING AFTER DOING THOSE PROGRAMMES? PLS ADVICE
swapnila : Yes. Though your decision of joining this college would depend on other options you have.

sony : SIR I HAVE HAD A CGPA-10 IN CBSE 10TH STD, 96.4% IN CBSE 12TH COMMERCE, CURRENTLY PURSUING B.COM HONS., GETTING AROUND 89-90 PERCENTILE IN AIMCATS AND GRADE POINT 8.6-8.9 IN MY SEMESTER EXAMS. DO YOU THINK TARGETING IIM-C IS ACHIEVABLE? I AM ALSO TRYING TO GET MY OBC-NC CERTIFICATE BUT IT IS GETTING DELAYED. CAN YOU LET ME KNOW WHAT ARE MY CHANCES IN PRSENCE AND ABSENCE OF THE OBC CERTIFICATE?
bhuvanaganesh : good chances are there to get a good score in CAT 17. Cut off is less for NC OBC category

priya : DALMIA MMS FINANCE OR WELINGKAR PGDM FINANCE?
swapnila : Welingkar.

akash123 : SIR HONESTLY ASKING EVEN IF I SCORE A 100%LE OVERALL AND A DECENT IN ALL AREAS.. EVEN THEN I WILL NOT GET A CALL FROM IIMA JUST BECAUSE MY 12TH WAS 77%.
vinnayraj : if you get a very high percentile you will certainly get into a top b school with a positive attitude..and it is not wise to pin your hopes on only one college..plus even after you get a call the conversion chances are 1/3 ..so it is better have a basket of options..

1 : @VINAYRAJ SIR- BY NEXT YEAR MY WORK EX WOULD BE 3 YEARS WOULD IT BE A HURDLE?
vinnayraj : not really...but evaluate your self belief and determination, current job option, free time to prepare and the risk factor involved...

revanth : Hi Abhi. It's answered.

abhi : SIR PLEASE ANSWER
revanth : Hi Abhi. It's answered.

gwcb7a003 : AFTER COMPLETING MATERIAL , WHICH BOOKS ARE RECOMMENDED??
govindrajan : Sufficient material is provided by us for CAT preparation. You can think of other books after completing the TIME material.

abc : HELLO SIR,MY FOCUS IS IN GETTING INTO SP JAIN CLG...CAN ME HELP ME WITH THE PERCENTILE REQUIREMENT FOR AN OPEN CATEGORY STUDENT....I ALSO HAVE 2 YRS OF WORK EXP...
revanth : Hi ABC. If it's SP Jain that you're concentrating on then you need to select a specialisation. Then you need to build your profile as the form that's needed to be filled for SP Jain is extremely lengthy & complicated. Also don't lose focus on the Top 40 B Schools by concentrating on just SP Jain.

akash123 : SIR IS MAGAZINE OF TIME SUFFICIENT FOR GK IN IIFT AND SNAP?
sumit : yes its enough .

megha : IT'S DIFFICULT FOR ME TO MANAGE BOTH COLLEGE AND STUDING FOR CAT PLZ SUGGEST ME HOW TO MANAGE BOTH AND PLZ HELP ME IN TIME MANAGEMENT ALSO AS I FEEL LIKE I M WASTING SO MUCH TIME ON SOLVING PROBLEMS.
govindrajan : Your priority should be your college studies. Pay more attention to your regular college studies. Initially spare about an hour a day for CAT preparation, you may increase this when you start feeling comfortable with your college studies.

gwcb7a003 : SIR PLEASE ANSWER??
vinnayraj : you will receive the second lot of material also..try taking the sectional tests and analyze the aimcats thoroughly...

sony : SIR I AM A B.COM GRADUATE AND SEEING THE ENGINEERS EXCELLING IN CAT YEAR AFTER YEAR REALLY BRINGS MY MORALE DOWN. WHAT EXTRA PREPARATION TIPS WOULD YOU LIKE TO SUGGEST THAT WOULD DEFINITELY MAKE ME AN EXCEPTION?
rajeshsaraf : Your question is built on the premise that engineers do well. It is just that a majority of the candidates who write the exam are engineers. So, you will hear mostly about engineers. As a matter of Fact, IIM A or most of the other IIMs want to maintain an academic diversity. For that, there are stringent norms and strict selection procedure for those who are engineers and belonging to Open category. For students coming from NON-Engineering background, the selection is less rigid. That means even if you have a poor rank as compared to an engineer who has a better rank, then you have as good a chance of selection as the engineer.

gwcb7a003 : SIR PLEASE ANSWER?
bhuvanaganesh : already answered

akash123 : SIR SHOULD WE PRACTICE THE MATERIAL ALREADY DONE AND THE THINGS LIKE HANDOUTS OF PREVIOUS CLASSES OR WE SHOULD MOVE ON AND FOCUS ON COMPLETION OF REST INCOMLETE MATERIAL?
vinnayraj : it helps to revise periodically..so do a mix of both..also once you learn new topics related to the topics already done you will be able to solve questions better..

akash123 : THERE ARE APPROAX 215 TESTS ON OUR SHP RIGHT NOW. HOW SHOULD I APPROACH FOR THEIR COMPLETION
vinnayraj : you can start taking them now..but try to solve a combination of study material, class handouts, aimcats and sectional tests and dont focus on only one..

gwcb7a003 : HOW TO LEARN VOCABULARY ??
rajeshsaraf : 1) Vocabulary is NOT an important element for CAT. However, that is extremely important for other entrance exams which you might be appearing for. 2) There are close to about 2000 key words. You will have to budget some time for learning that. A certain number of words on a daily basis. take the help of a thesaurus. Thesaurus does the opposite of a what a dictionary does. For a dictionary, it gives the meaning of a word. However, for thesaurus, it is the reverse. There is an idea and built around that there will be hundred words. So, it becomes slightly easier to remember those words and those are all interconnected. technique aside, you will have to get into it and work towards. The results may not happen for the first 15 days, but at certain point of time, you can see a quantum jump in your performance

akash123 : SIR IAM AT THE 13TH CHAPTER OF WORD POWER MADE EASY AND NOW FEELING A BIT LAZY OR HONESTLY SPEAKING I FEEL LIKE I WOULD HAD UTILIZED MY TIME IN DOING SOMETHING ELSE THAN DOING THE MUG UP OF WORDS? WHAT TO DO SIR
vinnayraj : you can take a break now and start later..but a more effective way of learning would be to learn words when you encounter them while reading and make sure you a read a lot and a lot of variety..

gwcb7a003 : SIR I SOLVE ALL BOOKLET QUESTIONS BUT I FACED PROBLEM IN AIMCAT AND SHEET QUESTIONS?? WHAT SHOULD I DO?
rajeshsaraf : Booklet/Handouts/Test papers have a different purpose. AIMCATs have a different purpose. Once, you understand the central theme, then it becomes easier and you feel a bit light. For the classroom handouts/Study material, you will have to try and solve different categories of qs (easy, moderate, difficult) under no specific time constraint. There the objective is learning concepts and building speed. AIMCATs have a different agenda altogether. You may be at a beginner level or an advanced level (assuming completed everything). AIMCATs test your ability to say "NO" to any questions. AIMCATs are about rejecting qs and not about selecting qs. In every section, there will always be at least 10 doable qs. But which 10 doable qs (out of 30), that is the most difficult task. So, AIMCAts prepare you for that scenario, where by the looks of a question you can judge which question is doable or not. Even if you solve 30 (out of 100 qs) corrctly, still your score will definitely cross 90 percentile. That means out of 10000 candidates, your rank will be 1000.

vineeta : SIR, HOW IS IISWBM,KOLKATA ?
bhuvanaganesh : It is a BB category B school. cut off is 70 percentile in CAT. You have to clear the sectional cutoff also. Fees is around 6 lakhs and avg salary is around 6 lakhs

akash123 : THANK YOU SO MUCH TO ALL THE TEACHERS FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND GUIDANCE. I WILL GIVE MY BEST NOW ONWARDS. :)
bhuvanaganesh : welcome. Best wishes

sony : SIR COULD YOU PLEASE SHARE TIPS FOR PREPARING FOR WAT CONDUCTED BY VARIOUS B SCHOOLS
swapnila : • You are provided with essay tasks to be carried out in periods ranging from 10 minutes to 30 minutes. • The number of words may/may not be given. If not, you could look at something like 350-400 words. • What's being tested here are your clarity of thought, command over English, empathy, GK, etc. • Try using simple and clear English. Don't go for complicated words unless you are comfortable with them.

isha : WHICH TOPIC IS MORE SCORY QUANT LOGIC OR RC?.
swapnila : Quant / Logic

sony : WHAT IS THE PROFILE REQUIRED FOR PURSUING MBA FINANCE AT IIM C
vinnayraj : you dont need a special profile...you need to crack the cat and do well in the interview...if you have in depth knowledge of finance and can manage certification courses they will help..

gwcb7a003 : I AM STUDYING IN COLLEGE SO HOW SHOULD I MANAGE BOTH COLLEGE AND CAT STUDY?
bhuvanaganesh : If you plan properly for the coming 7 months you can do it.

abc : ALL THE OTHER STUDENTS IN MY CLASS ARE ATTEMPTING CAT FOR THE 2ND OR 3RD TIME N THEY ALSO ANSWER THE QUANTS QUESTIONS REALLY FAST....COMPARATIVELY I TAKE 3-4 MIN MORE TO SOLVE QUANTS QUESTIONS....IS IT POSSIBLE FOR ME TO IMPROVE MY SPEED IN 5-6 MONTHS?
vjs : There are many students who made in first attempt.

daksh : SIR I AM FROM NON MATHS BACKGROUND I TAKE SO MUCH TIME IN SOLVING BOOKLATE HOW TO PREPARE FOR QUANT SECTION?
rajeshsaraf : There will be some resistance in the early stages. Just don't give up. There will be a point of time when you will start relishing all the efforts which you are putting in. Never say DIE. !!

shub : IS IMT DCP A GOOD CHOICE IF FEE IS NOT THE PRBLM ?
rajeshsaraf : It depends on what other options you have.

sony : WHAT ADD ON COURSES YOU RECOMMEND DOING FOR MBA FINANCE AT IIM C? PLEASE ENLIGHTEN...
rajeshsaraf : Crack CAT, get into IIMs. You can do any or multiple specializations in any of the B Schools. No special courses or certifications required for MBA -Finance. Just clear CAT (Written test). That is the single most crucial factor.

gwcb7a003 : HOW MUCH MARKS SHOULD BE SCORE IN INDIVIDUAL SUBJECTS IN CAT?
bhuvanaganesh : It is difficult to predict. It depends upon various factors like difficulty level of the paper etc

gwcb7a003 : AS AN AVERAGE STUDENT HOW TO MAKE PLAN FOR CAT PREPARTION FOR UPCOMING 7 MONTHS?
govindrajan : Practice basic study material initially and simultaneously take online basic tests. Once you reach a level of comfort start taking online intermediate test. Use initial SAMCATS and AIMCATS to build strategy for yourself, in terms of how to be accurate and reduce wrong answers. Make sure that you practice a few questions related to two test areas everyday. Do not bother about how much time you are consuming in solving the questions in the initial days. You will pick up speed as you practise.

sony : THERE HAD BEEN RUMORS ABOUT TOP B SCHOOLS DOING AWAY WITH STUDENTS HAVING LESS THAN 9 GPA IN GRADUATION. IS IT TRUE? I AM DOING B.COM. DO I NEED TO SCORE MORE THAN 9 GPA? IT'S VERY RARE IN MY INSTITUTE
bhuvanaganesh : No

daksh : HOW MUCH BOOKLATE QUESTION SHOULD I DO DAILY TO SCORE GOOD IN QUANT SECTION?
bhuvanaganesh : The no of questions depends upon your ability. Practice daily from your SM. Then please take sectional tests. Three levels are there for each test

isha : I AM FRM NON MATHS BACKGROUND I DONT UNDERSTAND QUANT AND LOGICE PARTS SO EASILY EVEN WEN I TRY TO.SOLVE QUES IT TAKES ME AROUND 5-8 MINS HOW SHOULD I MANAGE TIME AND MAKE IT EASY
bhuvanaganesh : First step: Revise the basics Second step: Practice a lot

daksh : HOW TO IMPROVE ENGLISH FOR CAT?
rajeshsaraf : Read, Read, Read, Read. Read on a variety of topics. Focus on the comprehension part. When you read, pay focus on key qs like "Central theme" , "the basic idea which the author wants to communicate", "tone of the author", "what could be the profession of the author", Central idea behind every paragraph. Key probing qs will make you an accomplished learner

money : SIR DOES SP JAIN COLLEGE HAS 85% CUTOFF FOR 10-12?
revanth : Hi. The criteria changes from year to year. So you'll have to wait for the criteria associated with CAT 2017. However, it's generally Sectional Percentile Cutoffs that're mentioned in the website & not 10th & 12th % cutoffs.

sony : THANK YOU SO MUCH SIRS AND MADAMS. IT WAS A VERY HELPFUL CHAT SESSION. CONFIDENCE BOOSTER WITHOUT A DOUBT
bhuvanaganesh : welcome

sree : SIR, DOES JOB EXP MATTER LARGELY FOR GETTING INTO IIM'S ? OR IS IT EQUALLY LIKELY JUST AFTER THE COMPLETION OF DEGREE WITHOUT ANY EXP.
vinnayraj : a lot of freshers do make it to the iims..so it is possible to secure admission without work experience..you need to crack the exam and do well in the interview..

isha : IS IT POSSIBLE TO SCORE AROUND 90 PRECENTILE IF WE PRACTICE FOR 4-5 MONTHS PROPERLY
rajeshsaraf : Why just 90 !! DREAM BIG !!! But then, YES, you got to start first. If you are committed, you WILL see the results. All the best !!

ruchi : I'M FROM NON-MATHS BACKGROUND,SPEED FOR SOLVING AND UNDERSTANDING IS VERY LOW IN QUANT ,HOW CAN I IMPROVE MY SPEED WITH PERFECT ACCURACY ? SHALL I CONCENTRATE MORE ON VOCAB ?
rajeshsaraf : Solve more and more, get exposure to different models of qs.

daksh : I HAVE SOLVED QUANT 1ST BOOK TWICE AND I AM ABLE TO SOLVE QUESTION FROM THAT TOPIC IN AIMCAT. BUT TO SOLVE IT TWICE IT TAKES TIME AND I AM READY TO GIVE THAT BUT THIS PROCESS IS BENEFICIAL?
vinnayraj : yes it is..revision helps you understand better and also the chances of you figuring out a better method of solving problems is higher the second time around..

money : SIR WE SHOULD SOLVE SHEETS AND BOOKLETS AGAIN AND AGAIN AFTER SOME TIME OR SOLVING THE SHEET ONCE IS SUFFICIENT?
vinnayraj : revision certainly helps and during that you may also figure out better ways of solving certain kinds of problems..

gwcb7a003 : IS TIME MATERIAL IS SUFFICIENT TO CLEAR YOUR ALL DOUBTS IN QUANT FOR CRACKING CAT?
vinnayraj : yes it is..

money : SIR, OUR FOCUS SHOULD BE ON SOLVING AS MANY QUESTIONS AS POSSIBLE IN AIMCAT OR ACCURACY IS IMPORTANT?
vinnayraj : attempting questions just for the sake of increasing their number doesnt help...attempt as many questions as possible by solving them completely and answer only when you are very sure..a couple of logical guesses is allowed only when you have categorically eliminated a couple of options..

s : IFIM OR SDMIMD
bhuvanaganesh : IFIM

gwcb7a003 : THANKYOU ALL THE TEACHERS FOR CLEARING MY QUESTIONS.. ANY IMPORTANT TIP FOR CRACKING CAT AS I NEED TO CRACK CAT SO PLEASE TELL ME
bhuvanaganesh : Revise the basics. Practice a lot

daksh : SIR I HAVE JOINED TIME LAST YEAR IN AUGUST EVERYTHING WAS GOING WELL I USED TO STUDY DAILY BUT SOME HOW I GET DISTRACTED AND NOW I AM FAR BEHIND MY BATCH IS IT GOOD FOR ME TO CHANGE THAT BATCH AND JOIN ANOTHER BATCH ?
vinnayraj : it is better if you do...

bharathvasan : THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUGGESTIONS. WILL DO MY BEST IN CAT'17
vinnayraj : welcome..

money : IN QUANT EVEN AFTER SOLVING QUESTIONS AND PRACTISING I AM NOT ABLE TO SOLVE QUESTIONS OF AIMCAT, CAN YOU SUGGEST ME SOMETHING?
rajeshsaraf : NOT all AIMCAT qs are meant to be solved. Even if you do just 50% of the qs (say with 100% accuracy), still you will be in top 5% in majority of the AIMCATs. NOTE:-> Just 50% marks !!

msd : WILL IIFT ANNOUNCE ANY WAIT LIST PLEASE REPLY.
revanth : Hi MSD. IIFT has announced 343 converts for Delhi & 240 for Kolkata. Once the Other Top b Schools announce their results, IIFT might be forced to extend admits. However, let's wait as it depends on the relative preference of the students.

daksh : SIR AFTER SOLVING BOOKLET QUESTIONS IN PARTICULAR TOPIC LIKE PERCENTAGE WHAT WE SHOULD DO FIRST? HANDOUT OR SECTIONAL TEST?
vinnayraj : once you are thorough with the fundamentals you can try any order though ideally handout, study material and then the sectional tests is desirable..

gaurav : SIR , HOW MUCH QUALITY STUDYING TIME IS NEEDED TO GET 100 PERCENTILE. AND OUT OF IT HOW MUCH TIME TO QUANT ???
rajeshsaraf : 100 percentile implies you need to get a score of at least about 80% marks. For 99 percentile, last year, a net score of about 50% marks was enough. At this stage, look towards building concepts, solving variety of qs. Spend about 5-6 hrs on a daily basis.

money : SIR, MY AIMCAT SCORE IN QUANT SECTION FROM THE PAST THREE TEST IS 11 OR 13. IT JUST REVOLVES AROUND 11-12. IT IS NOT EVEN ANYWHERE NEAR 20%
bhuvanaganesh : Do not worry about this. With proper preparation you can get good score
