(Chat Transcript)

hocd4z060 : HELLO,
thomas : Hello. Please post your question

kzca4a038 : HOW CAN I MAXIMIZE AIMCAT SCORES
lakshmymenon : After each AIMCAT, analyze your mistakes thoroughly with the help of video solutions. Start noting patterns of errors that you make in each subject. After a few AIMCATs you will be able to evolve a strategy of your own, considering your strengths and weaknesses, ideal number of attempts in each section based on difficulty level, time to spend on various question types etc. Analysis will help you greatly with time management, accuracy and question selection.

aru : GOOD EVENING EVERYONE !
thomas : Please post your question

hocd4z060 : HOW CHILD I PROCEED WITH LR AND TOPICS SHOULD I COVER FIRST
govindrajan : The same order in which the classes are conducted and the order in which exercises are given in study material.

bbca4a121 : HOW TO MAKE A TIMETABLE AND HOW TO ALLOT TIME FOR DIFFERENT SUBJECT?
govindrajan : Identify your strong and weak areas. Spend more time on the topics in which you are weak.

bhcb4a585 : WHAT IS AIMCAT AND WHY SHOULD WE TAKE AIMCATS?
thomas : These are all India mock tests similar to the actual CAT exam.you have to take this as practice if you are planning to write CAT this year

aru : HOW CAN ONE START READING EDITORIALS WHO HAVE LESS INTEREST IN READING
raman : Reading should be done dispassionately! Regardless of your interest.

hocc4v007 : FROM WHERE CAN I GET ACCESS TO THIS AIMCAT PAPER FOR ANALYSIS?
thomas : Similar question already answered. Please read transcript

jrca4a639 : HOW CAN I REDUCE MY WRONG ATTEMPTS AS I ALWAYS END UP ATTEMPTING MORE WRONG QUESTION THAN RIGHT ONES AND IT JUST HINDER MY SCORE.
philipthomas : Once you have worked upon a question and you end up getting confused between 2 options , you can do 2 things - decide to not answer the question or, be able to spot the difference between the options if you are able to do that , you will be able to finalise on the correct option.

bbca4a121 : HOW MUCH SCORE SHOULD BE CONSIDER GOOD IN AIMCAT
thomas : Do not bother about the raw score. Any score above 80 percentile at this stage is good

anshika : HOW AND WHAT TO STUDY AFTER WE ARE DONE WITH THE MORNING CLASSES?
philipthomas : Revise that day's topic and practice on those areas which were covered earlier

adcc4t001 : HOW TO FIND THE ANSWERS FROM PARAGRAPH ASAP?
lakshmymenon : Do not attempt questions without reading the entire passage - but you have to read fast, focusing on the central idea of each para. Once you finish reading (do not take more than 2-2.5 mins for reading), take each question, eliminate the obvious options and then revisit the relevant parts of the passage to compare each confusing option.

shyops : HOW MANY QUESTIONS SHOULD I ANSWER CORRECTLY TO GET MORE THAN 95% ?
thomas : It will depend on the difficulty level of the paper and can vary significantly from paper to paper. Have a look at the score of the person with all India rank of 250 in the aimcats, to get a rough idea

shivam : HI , I HAVE DOUBT IN QUESTION 6-10 IN AIMCAT 2522 LRDI , { DINESH LALIT QUESTION REFRENCE}
thomas : Please get it cleared by a faculty at your place or join the di doubt session scheduled eachbweek, in case you are eligible to attend the doubt sessions

prateek : HOW CAN WE ACCESS MISSED AIMCATS ? IS AIMCAT AT SAME LEVEL OF CAT IN TERMS OF DIFFICULTY ? WHAT SHOULD WE DO AFTER GIVING AIMCAT HOW TO ANALYZE ?
sunildua : Missed Aimcats can be accessed from your homepage once they are uploaded on it. The level of difficulty varies in Aimcats just like it varies in Cat. Aimcats do not have same pattern as Cat but have variation in the pattern. Analysis of the Aimcats means that you try to know about your weak/strong areas, learn about the mistakes that you tend to make by going through the wrong answers, know about the correct choice of questions and finally know how good you are at the areas that you have already studied with us...

chandana : HOW TO SELECT WHAT QUESTION TO SKIP AND WHAT QUESTION TO ANSWER IN THE VARC SECTION?
lakshmymenon : Good question! Most students ask, how to select the right RC passages. Passage selection can never be perfect because there can be tricky questions based on easy passages and vice versa. Once you read a passage, for each question, check whether you can easily eliminate 2 options. If not it is a warning signal. Once you eliminate 2 options, take each confusing option and compare it with the relevant part of the passage to identify distortions, extreme statements, far-fetched ideas, flawed assumptions etc. If you are still confused after about 1.5 minutes or so, just leave it or mark for review.

hocc4v007 : I HAVE A DOUBT IF THE QUES IS CORRECT OR NOT IN 2ND DILR PASSAGE
thomas : Multiple faculty have checked each and every question. It is unlikely to have any mistake. In case you still have a doubt after seeing the solutions, I would suggest that you attend the doubt session scheduled each week, in case you are eligible to attend

aman : MY SYLLABUS IS NOT COMPLETED YET ,WILL IT BE BENEFICIAL TO GIVE AIMCAT NOW?
thomas : Yes. Do take the tests in the test window. Do not bother about the scores and use the initial aimcats to try out different strategies to find the one that suits you the best

adcc4t001 : HOW TO CHOOSE THE CORRECT ANSWER FROM PARAGRAPH IN A SPEEDY MANNER?
lakshmymenon : Understand the central idea and tone of the author while reading the passage. Read a variety of topics to gain familiarity with CAT-type passages.

ggcn4q016 : HEY, I HAVE BEEN AN AVERAGE STUDENT WITH 80% MARKS WITH PCMB IN MY TWELFTH. I DID MY GRADUATION WITH GRADE A AND HAVE JUST STARTED MY PREPARATION FROM TIME A FEW DAYS AGO. I AM UNABLE TO UNDERSTAND WHETHER ILL BE ABLE TO COMPLETE SYLLABUS IN TIME AND HAVE ENOUGH TIME FOR MOCKS. THIS COULD BE MY ONLY CHANCE FOR CAT. I REALLY WANT TO GET INTO A GOOD COLLEGE.
sunildua : Dont worry about finishing the syllabus at this stage. Our material is more than enough. Worry about making the best use of the material, Some students do exceptionally well by going through only 90% of our material. So, remain focussed and work hard. Take the help of your Faculty members in case of doubts.

samridhi : AS A BEGINNER TAKING FIRST MOCK, HOW WILL YOU SUGGEST TO APPROACH THE AIMCAT?
philipthomas : Tell yourself that you need to answer only those questions about which you have clarity ,do not worry about accuracy and strategy now , just focus on accuracy.

ggcn4q016 : KINDLY ADVISE HOW TO START WITH SELF STUDIES AFTER THE EVERYDAY SCHEDULED CLASSES.
govindrajan : Revise the clasroom handout before solving exercise (a) of the relevant topic from basic study material. This should be followed by solving online foundayion test. After covering a few topics in each of the test areas, you may solve eercise (b) and online intermediate tests.

aaditya : SIR MY ACCURACY IN VARC IS LOW. IN THIS AIMCAT I SCORED 10 CORRECTLY BUT 12 WRONG IN VARC. IN PREVIOUS AIMCATS I HAVE BEEN SCORING WELL ABOVE 85%ILE BUT I AM WORRIED A LOT ABOUT MY VARC ACCURACY. CAN YOU PLEASE GUIDE ME THORUGH IT?
lakshmymenon : 10 correct, 12 wrong=22 attempts? Why are you attempting so many questions? Of course it indicates that your speed is excellent, but you need to be more selective. In RC, Once you read a passage, for each question, check whether you can easily eliminate 2 options. Just because you read a passage, you should not try and answer all questions in it. Be smart and avoid negative marks. Similarly in VA, don't try to attempt the non-MCQs very quickly because they do not have negative marks. Your aim is to maximise the score, so spend enough time on VA questions also. I would not suggest attempting more than 15-16 questions at this point till you work on your accuracy.

nasa : I AM TAKING THE AIMCATS AND SAMCATS AND I AM CONSTANTLY SCORING IN 20'S AND I GIVE MY BEST EFFORTS ALL THE TIME,
thomas : Do not bother about the scores in the initial aimcats. Your score will improve as you cover more topics. Use these tests to try out different strategies for solving to test to identify the one suits you the best

bbca4a121 : HOW TO PREPARE FOR DIFFERENT EXAMS WITH CAT PREPARATIONS?
govindrajan : Other management exams have a few additional reasoning topics (SM1002507) and Decisision Making. Classes to cover all these topics are provided. No speacial preparation is required for other areas. Make sure to take mock tests of other management tests to understand the question types.

anshika : WHAT ARE THE BOOKS WE CAN GO FOR MATHS? COULD WE GO FOR ARUN SHARMA?
thomas : The material we give is more than enough. You need not refer any other material

prateek : HOW TO SELECT SETS IN RC AND LR/DI ? ONCE WE SELECT HALFWAY IT SEEMS DIFFICULT TO CONTINUE AND TIME CONSUMING BUT LEAVING IT THEN WASTE THE TIME INVESTED, WHAT SHOULD WE DO IN THAT CASE ?
govindrajan : Once you read the initial few lines of a puzzle/DI set, you will get to know what kind of puzzle/DI set we are going to solve. This does not take more than 30 to 40 seconds. Give a quick read to the given data spending about a minute time. Do not try to analyse the information at this stage. Spend a couple of minutes to read the questions and the type of answer choices. In case the questions have "If" conditions, it indicates that we get more than one possible solution. The questions let us know how to use the given information. All these should happen in about 3 minutes. Then start going through the information carefully. While doing this decide which statement to be picked up first and the order in which the other pieces of information are to be used. This way we can have a smooth flow of thought process and take less time to solve.

cn : CAN YOU SUGGEST SOME NON FICTIONS TO SOMEONE WHO HAS A HABIT OF READING FICTIONS. ITS HARD TO FOCUS WITHOUT AN INTERESTING PLOT BUT I HEARD ITS BETTER TO READ NON FICTIONS TO IMPROVE FOR RC.
lakshmymenon : While reading anything is good for RC preparation, if you're not into non-fiction, there is no need to start reading these books now. It will be more useful to read articles on a variety of topics similar to those that appear in CAT. After all, he passages in CAT are only 500 words long. The most common topics in CAT are sociology, philosophy, political science, cultural history, psychology, genetics, physics, technology etc. Read a couple of articles on some of these topics every day.

vedapriyamn : HOW MANY MOCLS WE SHOULD TAKE FOR A DAY
philipthomas : Not more than one.

mohit : SIR, WHAT IS THE TYPICAL CUTOFF SCORES FOR GENERAL ENGINEERING MALE (GEM) CANDIDATES IN THE BABY IIMS?
thomas : Around 93 percentile

sana : WHERE CAN I ACCESS VIDEO SOLUTIONS FOR THE AIMCAT?
thomas : The video solutions are available along with the written solutions in your student home page

hocd4a745 : HOW TO IMPROVE VARC AND DEVELOP INTEREST IN IT?
lakshmymenon : Two reasons for developing interest: 1. It is essential for CAT! 2. Once you get to B-school, most of your curriculum is case-study based, and you'll have to read 100-300 pages almost every day! So, start now and make sure you read short articles on a variety of topics every day. For improving VARC, please refer to the answers already given in this chat.

anshika : WHAT TO DO WHEN WE HAVE DOUBTS AFTER WE ARE DONE WITH THE MORNING SESSION?
philipthomas : Stay back and talk to the faculty , they will be happy to help, normally faculty only after clearing all doubts.

sandhya : SIR I AM A NON MATH STUDENT, AND IT FEELS DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND AND ANALYSE THE QNS AND CONCEPTS, HOW CAN I IMPROVE IT?
saikat kundu : Hi, As a non-math person, you should prepare the basic concepts from your T.I.M.E study materials, then try to solve the CRQ (Concept Review Questions). Always refer your solution book for the questions those you are unable to solve,

hocc4s120 : WHAT SHOULD BE MY ATTEMPT IN EACH SECTION IN ORDER TO GET 99%ILE??
thomas : In case you have attempted it during the test window, the result will be available on your student home page. In case you missed the aimcat. You will have to wait till September for it to br enabled for you to attempt

hocc4v007 : FROM WHERE CAN I GET ACCESS TO AIMCAT2422 PAPER AND MY ATTEMPT
thomas : Similar question already answered

vedapriyamn : I HAVE COMPLETED QUANT SYLLABUS BUT YET TO FINISH GEOMETRY AND OTHER SECTIONS IS GOING SLOW SO HOW CAN I ENHANCE MY SPEED IN THOSE SECTIONS TO COMPLETE SYLLABUS AND START REVISION
saikat kundu : You may not be equally good in all the chapters. For those chapters, you are good enough, try to solve Exercises (A) and (B) for the difficult questions, but for the chapters those are not good enough for you, start solving from CRQ and take the help of the solution book and your faculty members to improve the topics

anu : HOW TO PREPARE FOR AIMCAT DURING THE INITIAL STAGE OF PREPARATION?
philipthomas : Do sectional tests before taking up an AIMCAT.

prasanth : SPENDING MORE TIME ON THE WRONG SET IN DILR. HOW TO IMPROVE THE SET SELECTION IN DILR?
govindrajan : Once you read the initial few lines of a puzzle/DI set, you will get to know what kind of puzzle/DI set we are going to solve. This way we can have a smooth flow of thought process and take less time to solve.

sope : WHAT IS THE BEST STRATEGY TO GO ABOUT LRDI?
thomas : Lrdi can be improved only by practice as there is very less theory to study and improve. Try to solve as many sets as you can. Your speed will gradually improve

ishika : HOW TO SOLVE VARC TOPICS I AM VERY WEAK IN THAT SECTION SO PLEASE GIVE ME SOME MATERIAL FOR INCREASE IT
sunildua : We have given sufficient material in every topic. However, if you still need some more material in a particular topic, please seek help from your respective centre.

anshika : HOW TO CLEAR ARE DOUBTS AFTER THE MORNING SESSION WHEN WE CAN'T CONTACT THE FACULTIES OR WE DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO THEIR CONTACTS ?
saikat kundu : Please contact your respective centers and ask the center people to arrange the doubt-solving classes for different topics. you also can call to the center during the normal office hour

laxmikanth7 : HOW TO IMPROVE MY MARKS IN DILR ?
thomas : Similar qn already answered. Please read transcript

aaditya : NOW THAT 6 MONTHS ARE LEFT FOR CAT WHAT IS THE IDEAL STRATEGY I SHOULD ADOPT TP GET 99 %ILE. MY ACADS ARE 9/9/8 GEM FRESHER.
philipthomas : Break it up into stages : focus on basics for the next 3 months , advanced levels for 2 months after that and only tests and mocks in the last month.

dhruv0162 : SIR/MAAM I AM FACING A PROBLEM THAT IF I IMPROVE MY SCORE IN 1 SECTION THE MY SCORE IN SOME OTHER SECTION DROPS.
lakshmymenon : That's obviously a mental block. After you finish one section, you need to forget it completely and focus on the next section for the next 40 minutes. Treat each section as a separate test!

ccca4a031 : WHAT IS THE TIME MANAGEMENT FOR VARC?BECAUSE I SPEND MORE TIME RC.
lakshmymenon : The passages in CAT are usually 500 words long. You have approximately 8-10 minutes to solve an RC set. You should finish reading the passage in 2-2.5 minutes. This can be done by focusing on the central idea, understanding the tone of the author and not focusing much on details. Then, for each question, eliminate the obviously wrong options quickly. For the remaining options, revisit the passage and compare each option carefully. Look for distortions, far-fetched or out of context statements, flawed assumptions etc. and decide on the right answer. Finally, if you are confused after spending about 1.5 minutes, leave that question!

chandana : I AM FROM A NON-MATH BACKGROUND AND IT'S TAKING MUCH TIME TO SOLVE QUANT QUESTIONS(1HR FOR 10-15 QUESTIONS).I AM CLEAR WITH MY BASICS BUT THE APPLICATION PART IS WHERE I STRUGGLE A LOT.HOW CAN I IMPROVE THAT?
saikat kundu : you need to practice more questions with different types. attempt the sectional tests as many as possible

dhruv0162 : SIR/MAAM I AM FACING A PROBLEM THAT IF I IMPROVE MY SCORE IN 1 SECTION THE MY SCORE IN SOME OTHER SECTION DROPS. HOW SHOULD I MENTAIN A BALANCE IN ALL 3 SECTIONS
philipthomas : Remember that you should vary the number of attempts in a section according to the difficulty level.

nasa : IS 1 AEON ESSAY A DAY ENOUGH TO IMPROVE IN RC'S?
sunildua : Nothing can be said to be enough for doing well in Cat. Do all that you can. Aeon essays will certainly help.

bhcb4a772 : CAN YOU TELL ME TIPS SO THAT MY ALL THREE SECTIONS CAN WE IMPROVED. IM WEEK IN ALL.
sunildua : There is no real strategy or rocket science about how to study. You have to work on all the areas that you are weak in. There are certainly no shortcuts to success.

bhcn4q736 : I HAVE JUST STARTED MY PREPARATION, IS IT ADVISABLE TO TAKE AIMCATS NOW?
saikat kundu : you still can take AIMCAT without any high expectations just to be well-versed with the exam

tanishakataria_ : HOW MUCH TIME TO BE DEDICATED TO VARC ? AS A BEGINNER.
sunildua : There cant be a standard answer to this. Every student requires different time frame to study a certain amount of work. So, get going and give your 100% to the preparation and stay focussed.

dhruv0162 : I AM A GEM AND HAVE MY 10TH 12TH AND GRAD SCORES IN 70S; HOW SHOULD I IMPROVE MY PROFILE AND WHICH COLLEGES SHOULD I TARGET. I AM CURRENTLY SCORING ABOVE 90 PERCENTILE IN AIMCATS
philipthomas : There are 2 ways to improve your profile , do some online certifications connected to business management or, take up work , it can even be part time.

tanishakataria_ : HOW TO PRACTICE VA. IS THERE A BOOKLET FOR IT?
lakshmymenon : Yes. Check the "Verbal Ability' Study Material (SM).

aditi : HOW TO ANALYSE THE AIMCAT AND IMPROVE THE RESULTS?
saikat kundu : after every AIMCAT you will get the full analysis of that paper. go through the analysis and try to identify your mistakes(Like, the questions you have attempted but you should not attempt them or the questions those you have missed were actually doable). the strategy that the toppers have taken to solve the questions and your strategy. you also can compare your answers and the topper's answers. so that, you can able to identify where you are lagging behind

tanishakataria_ : HOW MANY QUESTIONS TO DO FOR EACH QUANTS TOPIC? LIKE WHAT PROCESS TO FOLLOW? SINCE THERE ARE SO MANY QUESTIONS IN BOOKLET AND SPECIAL SUPPORT BOOK AND THEN TESTS AS WELL.
saikat kundu : simply your choice.

rajkalyan : WILL CAT SYLLABUS BE ENOUGH FOR OTHER COMPETITIVE EXAMS LIKE MAT
sunildua : Cat is the mother of all MBA entrance exams. However, you may need to focus on something else also depending on the kind of questions asked in a particular exam.

bpca4a364 : I HAVEN'T STARTED QUANTS YET, I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO START WITH? CAN YOU PLEASE SUGGEST HOW CAN I START MY PREPARATION, AS I AM FROM A COMMERCE BACKGROUND, I AM NOT GOOD WITH NUMBERS. HOW MANY HOURS SHOULD I GIVE FOR MY PREPARATION IN A DAY?
saikat kundu : one needs to start with the Arithmetic portion. you must start your preparation as soon as possible. to get a good B-School with decent score one has to devote around 5-6 hour daily

aaditya : WHAT SHOULD BE THE IDEAL PERCENTILE FOR ME TO GET INTO ANY IIM. ACADS 9/9/8 GEM FRESHER
thomas : You will need 99+ for the old iims and 95+ for the new iims

gowthaman : IN AIMCAT 2522,I SCORED VARC-36 PERCENTILE, DILR-95 PERCENTILE, QA-33 PERCENTILE, OVERALL-74 PERCENTILE. QA I SUBMITTED THE EARLIER, BUT I AM FINDING VERY DIFFICULT TO SCORE IN VARC. HOW EXCLUSIVELY I CAN PREPARE FOR VARC.
philipthomas : Work upon all areas relevant to the section ,for now , during the AIMCAT do only the RC section.

vaishnavi : HI I AM A WORKING PROFESSIONAL IN SUPPLY CHAIN IN A MANUFACUTIRNG COMPANY .I WILL BE COMPLETING 20 MONTHS OF TOTAL WORK EXPERIENCE IN JUNE.THOUGH I AM AN ENGINEERING STUDENT I AM QUITE WEAK AT QUANTS AND DILR . I HAVE JUST STARTED PREPARING AND THIS IS THE ONLY ATTEMPT THAT I HAVE . HOW TO PLAN COMPLETING SYLLABUS.
saikat kundu : you need to prepare a proper schedule for yourself, ideally, at this stage, you need around 3-5 hours daily for the CAT preparation apart from your daily routine. give sufficient time on those topics those are your weaker parts. if you are a regular classroom student, then, prepare the topics before coming to the class and solve the exercises after the class is over. take sectional tests every day

d : IF I PREPARE FOR CAT EXAM, IS IT SUFFICIENT FOR ME TO WRITE GMAT EXAM TOO?
sunildua : Cat and Gmat syllabus have an overlap of about 70%. You will require some more to be done in each of them.

hh : SIR I GOT -3 IN VARC SECTION HOW CAN I IMPROVE THIS
lakshmymenon : Please focus more on question selection and option selection. In RC, just because you read a passage, do not blindly attempt all questions based on it.for each question, eliminate the obviously wrong options quickly. For the remaining options, revisit the passage and compare each option carefully. Look for distortions, far-fetched or out of context statements, flawed assumptions etc. and decide on the right answer. Finally, if you are confused after spending about 1.5 minutes, leave that question!

rhicundu : HELLO SIR..PLEASE RANK BW IIM NAGPUR, VIZAG, KASHIPUR AND ROHTAK...
lakshmymenon : Rohtak and Kashipur, followed by the other 2

cn : I SCORED 91 PERCENTILE IN VARC BUT LESS THAN 80S IN QUANT AND DILR. I AM PLANNING TO FOCUS MAINLY ON THE LATTER TWO AND ONLY FOCUS ON VARC ONCE IN A WHILE. IS IT FINE?
philipthomas : No, you need to work upon your strong areas as much as you work upon areas that are not comfortable for you. You cannot afford to lose connect with your strong areas

abcd1234 : HELLO SIR, I FIND NUMBER SYSTEM AS VERY DIFFICULT TOPIC, HOW TO APPROACH, PLZ GIVE STEP BY STEP PLAN TO BECOME GOOD AT IT
saikat kundu : start from the basic concept (Formula), then solve CRQ and handout. once you are done and start understanding the topic, solve exercises A and B. take the help from your faculty members to solve the difficult questions

a : DO U PROVIDE CHAT SESSIONS FOR GMAT TOO?
lakshmymenon : No, but most centres offering GMAT have telegram groups where faculty members answer your queries.

alan : SO I HAVE JUST STARTED WITH TIME. I'M ATTENDING THE LECTURES, AND THEN IMMEDIATELY AFTER THAT I'M TRYING TO SOLVE QUESTIONS FROM THE BOOKLET, FOR QUANTS. I'M BRUSHING THROUGH THE EXERCISES A N B, IS THIS AN IDEAL APPROACH, OR SHOULD I TAKE UP A DIFFERENCE APPROACH. AND ITS TAKING A LONG TIME FOR ME TO SOLVE QUESTIONS, IS THAT OK NOW PLEASE GUIDE.
sunildua : There is never a shortcut to success. So, stay focussed and give your best.

nithin : WHAT'S THE PERCENTILE SHOULD I GET TO GET INTO FMS DELHI AND I'M A FRESHER. 100/98.6/92+ IN 10TH/12TH/GRAD
philipthomas : Nothing less than a 99 percentile

bpca4a364 : HOW TO BE GOOD AT VARC, BECAUSE I AM NOT ABLE TO SCORE GOOD IN VARC?
lakshmymenon : Start by reading a variety of topics. The most common topics in CAT are sociology, philosophy, political science, cultural history, psychology, genetics, physics, technology etc. Read a couple of articles on some of these topics every day.Attempt AIMCATs and sectional tests regularly. Instead of blindly attempting questions, focus on question selection. Watch the video solutions in AIMCAT to understand your mistakes.

pooja : SHOULD WE REVISE ALL THREE SECTION IN SAME DAY OR DIVIDE IT WITH DAYWISE?
saikat kundu : better divide day-wise. keep more days for the weaker section/s. it is advisable to keep two topics in a day

nanditha : HI, I HAVE STARTED PREPARING FOR CAT SINCE TWO WEEKS AGO. MY CURRENT STRATEGY IS TO COVER THE TOPICS ONE BY ONE BY SOLVING TOPIC SPECIFIC QUESTIONS
sunildua : Please also focus on the concepts so that you are able to solve maximum number of questions based on that topic.

kajal : FROM WHERE CAN I PREPARE FOR LRDI SECTION ,BECAUSE THERE IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT QUESTIONS IN CAT FROM OUR STUDY MATERIAL?
saikat kundu : once you have completed the study material, then start practicing the sectional test, the questions in the sectional tests are similar to the type of questions asked in CAT. solve SAM CAT papers as well

anshika : SIR I HAVE RECENTLY STARTED WITH THE CLASSES. ITS BEEN 3 WEEKS ,BUT STILL I'M NOT ABLE TO PERFORM BETTER. I END UP BEING DEMOTIVATED. I DON'T KNOW WHEN AND HOW TO GO FOR SECTIONAL TESTS AND AIMCATS OR WHAT PROCESS SHOULD I OPT FOR STUDYING?
sunildua : Do not feel disheartened at this stage. Stop worrying about your final performance in November. Make sure that you are improving every week and try to set targets for yourself and notice the improvement. Do not jump to sectional rightaway. Begin with the SM material that is given to you.

shubham : HAVE COMPLETED 50% OF THE SYLLABUS, WHAT SHOULD I FOCUS ON WHILE ATTEMPTING MOCKS FOR COUPLE OF MOCKS? ACCURACY OR SPEED?
lakshmymenon : Obviously, both are important. But develop accuracy first and in the meanwhile, keep track of the time spent on each question.

vedapriyamn : HOW MANY HOURS A DAY I SHOULD STUDY TO BE PERFECT IN ALL SECTIONS AND TO INCREASE ACCURACY
saikat kundu : sorry, there is no minimum time limit, The more you study and practice, the more you will be accurate and well-versed with the exam

mucb4a201 : WILL WE GET MOCK TESTS FOR OTHER MBA ENTRANCE EXAMS SUCH AS XAT,CUET, NMAT ETC
saikat kundu : yes, depends on whether you have enrolled for OMET as well or not

vaishnavi : IS THERE A WORD LIMIT TO POST
saikat kundu : no

annik : I HAVE IS 76% IN 10TH, 76.8% IN 12TH, 85% ENGG FEMALE WITH 2 YEARS WORKEX. WHAT IS THE CUTOFF FOR IIMS/FMS. AS IT IS MY LAST ATTEMPT, HOW SHOULD I WORK ON MY PROFILE.
saikat kundu : for the old IIMs and FMS, it is around 97-98 %ile, for the baby IIMs, it is around 92-95%ile

shweta : HI, IN THE INITIAL AIMCATS FOR VARC MY SCORE WAS AROUND 46 TO 34 BUT THE LAST AIMCAT MY VARC SCORE DROPPED TO 16, MY SELECTION IN QUESTIONS IS NOT ACCURATE. HOW CAN I IMPROVE
philipthomas : Check your performance in the initial AIMCATs, find your weak areas and work upon those areas, if required ask a faculty to help you with the analysis and create a study plan for yourself.

nasa : WHAT IS THE IDEAL EDUCATIONAL PROFILE FOR IIMA,AND PERCENTILE REQUIRED FOR A CALL?
saikat kundu : the educational profile is not as important as your written exam score and performance in GWPI/WAT sessions. try to be more focused to get around 95-99%ile to be sure to get calls from IIMs and other top B-Schools.

shubham : HOW TO SCORE BETTER IN RCS??
sunildua : Read a lot. Ensure that your mind does not wander off when you are reading. If it does bring it back to focus immediately. Work on your vocabulary. Make sure that you add atleast 15-20 new words everyday to your vocabulary. Study the rules of Grammar. Grammar helps in understanding the passages better.

bbca4a121 : HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD BE GIVEN TO STUDY, I MEAN FOR A AVERAGE STUDENT , WHAT TIME TABLE SHOULD BE FOLLOWED LIKE HOW MANY HOURS
saikat kundu : around 4-5 hours daily apart from your normal routine and classes. take at least 1-2 sectional tests every day. prepare your own timetable according to your convenience

bbca4a121 : HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD BE GIVEN TO STUDY, I MEAN FOR A AVERAGE STUDENT , WHAT TIME TABLE SHOULD BE FOLLOWED LIKE HOW MANY HOURS
philipthomas : 3 hours per day is good enough for a thorough preparation.

bhca4a382 : I HAVE SCORED 69,73,58,74 PERCENTILE RESPECTIVELY IN MY LAST 4 AIMCATS EVEN AFTER GIVING EXTRA EFFORTS I AM STUCK IN THIS RANGE HOW TO IMPROVE MY PERCENTILES TILL 99 AS THERE ARE HARDLY FEW MONTHS LEFT
saikat kundu : Solve the sectional test as many as possible and analyze your every AIMCATs. solve your study materials once again with the time limits

rhicundu : HELLO SIR..PLEASE RANK BW IIM NAGPUR, VIZAG, KASHIPUR AND ROHTAK....
philipthomas : The ranking - Rohtak , Kashipur , Vizag and Nagpur.

gunasree : FOR NEW BEGGINERS IS THEIR ANY SUGGESTION TO START THE PREPARATION FROM WHICH AREA
saikat kundu : already replied to the same type of questions before. please check the chat box

ropz : HOW TO PERFORM WELL IN VARC SECTION? I AM STRUGGLING PLEASE GIVE ME SOME ADVICE REGARDING VARA
sunildua : Read a lot. Ensure that your mind does not wander off when you are reading. If it does bring it back to focus immediately. Work on your vocabulary. Make sure that you add atleast 15-20 new words everyday to your vocabulary. Study the rules of Grammar. Grammar helps in understanding the passages better.

k : PLEASE TELL THE TIPS TO IMPROVE DI
saikat kundu : simply practice. the more you practice DILR questions more you will be able to tackle those questions in exams

bhcn4q736 : WHICH EDITORIALS ARE BEST FOR IMPROVING PERFORMANCE IN RCS
lakshmymenon : Read the Hindu Editorial and foreign journals such as Guardian, Observer, NYT etc. Also, try and read a variety of articles on the most common topics asked in CAT such as sociology, political science, cultural history, psychology, genetics, technology etc.

apoorva : HELLO! MY PROFILE IS 90,90,80 IN 10TH, 12TH AND BTECH.I HAVE GRADUATED IN 2023 WITH NO WORK EXPERIENCE.IS IT POSSIBLE TO GET INTO IIMS
philipthomas : Yes you can. just work hard and prepare well so that you can score a 99 percentile

bhcn4q736 : CAN YOU PLEASE TELL BY WHICH MONTH SHOULD I COMPLETE MY WHOLE SYLLABUS
philipthomas : Latest by October 31st

ani : IS IT TOO LATE TO START NOW?
sunildua : Not at all.. In fact most of the students begin their best preparation in May/June. So, stop wasting time by entertaining negative thoughts and put your best foot forward and begin your preparation in the right earnest.

qlca4a032 : AFTER GIVING THE AIMCAT, I GOT TO KNOW THAT I MADE SOME MISTAKES IN VA/RC SECTION. EVEN IF MY GUT FEELING TELLS THAT THIS IS THE RIGHT ANSWER AFTER GOING THROUGH THE PASSAGE, I END UP GETTING THE WRONG ANSWER. AND, HOW TO IMPROVE THE LRDI SECTION, SO FAR THIS IS THE SECTION THAT I'M QUITE STRUGGLING
lakshmymenon : For RC, do not follow your gut instinct! Instead, after eliminating obviously wrong options, revisit the relevant parts of the passage and compare each option with the passage. Try to eliminate the wrong one based on distortions, false assumptions, extreme statements etc. If you're confused after spending about 1.5 minutes on a question, just leave it or mark for review.

sneha : HELLO! WHILE ANSWERING VARC I TEND TO CONFUSE BETWEEN 2 OPTIONS AND END UP MARKING THE WRONG CHOICE AND THE OTHER ONE TURNS OUT TO BE CORRECT.HOW TO AVOID THIS.
