gowthaman : HELLO GOOD EVENING TEAM! ONE GENERAL QUESTION. I AM MANAGING TWO BUSINESS FINANCE AND GOLD. WHAT CAN I SELECT AS A JOB ROLE IN CAT APPLICATION FORM. bharat : Mention that you are self-employed - duration (for how many months
ishan : I AM FACING PROBLEMS WITH SOLVING EVEN A SINGLE DILR COMPLETELY IN MY MOCK. WHAT SHOULD I DO AND WHERE CAN I PRACTICE DILR FROM TO IMPROVE. govindrajan : SM1002515, LRPEs, LATs, LWHOs and AIMCAT-SAs provide good amount of practice. Online intermediate tests and online advanced tests also have higher difficulty puzzles.
jinal : SHORTCUT TO SOLVE A FOUR DIGIT SQUARE abhishek : I do not understand. Do you mean calculating square of 4 digit number or sqaure root?
gowthaman : HOW MANY STUDENTS FROM TIME INSTITUTE JOINED IN IIM ABC LAST YEAR? asim : This year's audit is going on, the results will be made available in a few weeks of time. For CAT 2022 it was 116,252 and 160 respectively.
kavya : HI NOT ABLE TO SOLVE DI-LR SETS FAST, WHAT CAN I DO TO IMPROVE govindrajan : Once you read the initial few lines of a puzzle/DI set, you will get to know what kind of puzzle/DI set we are going to solve. This does not take more than 30 to 40 seconds. Give a quick read to the given data spending about a minute time. Do not try to analyse the information at this stage. Spend a couple of minutes to read the questions and the type of answer choices. In case the questions have "If" conditions, it indicates that we get more than one possible solution. The questions let us know how to use the given information. All these should happen in about 3 minutes. Then start going through the information carefully. While doing this decide which statement to be picked up first and the order in which the other pieces of information are to be used. This way we can have a smooth flow of thought process and take less time to solve.
goutham : WHAT IS THE IDEAL WAY TO APPROACH VARC SECTION, LIKE IS IT GOOD TO LEAVE ALL THE PASSAGES FOR THE LAST AND DO JUMBLES, ODD ONE ETC AT FIRST? asim : You must experiment with different strategies in the AIMCATs-SA and finalize a strategy couple of months before CAT.
karan : I AM FACING PROBLEM IN SOLVING TIME, DIST AND SPEED SUMS abhishek : Okay. Keep solving the exercise, you will eventually get better at it.
goutham : WHAT ARE THE KIND OF SET THAT WE SEE IN DILR SECTION govindrajan : Solve puzzles from LRPEs, LWHOs, LATs, SM1002515 and AIMCAT-SAs. They are at the CAT standards.
deepakpatra : SHOULD I TRY TO ATTEMPT OR ANALYZE EVERY DILR SET OR JUST FOCUS ON SOLVING EASIER ONES AND PUT MOST OF MY TIME INTO THESE? govindrajan : If you are talikng about mock tests, out of the four sets given, you should try to solve 2 or 3 sets to get good score in the section. If you take a systematic approach you will be able to solve at least two sets within the given time. Once you read the initial few lines of a puzzle/DI set, you will get to know what kind of puzzle/DI set we are going to solve. While doing this decide which statement to be picked up first and the order in which the other pieces of information are to be used. This way we can have a smooth flow of thought process and take less time to solve.
siri : WHEN ONLY PERCENTAGE IS GIVEN HOW TO CONVERT TOTAL VALUE asim : Its difficult to explain concepts on this platform, i suggest you attend a doubt clarifying session and discuss with a faculty member.
dlcn4q273 : WHEN DO WE AIM TO FINISH THE SYLLABUS IN THE COACHING? AND IF BY SEPTEMBER THEN HOW DO YOU SUGGEST WE DO OUR REVISION FOR THESE TWO SUBJECTS? NOTES OR ONLY TEST PAPERS? govindrajan : Revisison should happen as part of regular preparation. It is not advisable not to start revision till the completion of syllabus. After completing a few chapters revise earlier chapters at periodical intervals one by one. For revision solve test papers. Refre to notes in those topics where you are facing difficulty.
kishori : HOW CAN I BUILD MY LOGIC FOR DILR IN THIS SHORT PERIOD OF TIME asim : The key is to gain conceptual clarity with the help of basic study material. Make sure you regularly interact with faculty members and get your doubts. Follow it up with loads of practice with rest of the study material.
anand09 : I AM TO SOLVE MEDIUM LEVEL DILR SET,FROM WHERE SHOULD I PRACTICE HARD SETS ON DILR? abhishek : You can take AIMCATs, AIMCAT SAs, LWHO, LAT, DWHO,DAT, DEX handouts. Also, practice exercise booklet given(check with your centre, if not given)
e : IN LOGICAL, FROM LINEAR AS WELL AS CIRCULAR ARRANGEMENTS, I DO ALMOST OF THE ARRANGEMENTS CORRECTLY BUT I MAKE ONE OR 2 ARRANGEMENTS WRONGLY (FOR THE ARRANGEMENTS WHICH CAN BE AT ANY OF THE PLACES) SO HOW CAN I IDENTIFY THAT WHICH PLACE IS THE RIGHT PLACE? govindrajan : In case of the statements which do not specify left/right (A is two places away from B, there are three persons between A and B), you need to draw arrangements for two possibilities and solve both of them simultaneously.
karan : HOW MANY SETS SHOULD WE SOLVE DAILY TO BUILD A LEARNING HOW IT WORKS asim : Around 3-5 DI LR sets ( assuming you were asking about DI LR ).
siri : IN PIE CHART HOW TO CONVERT PERCENTAGE TO RATIO OR VALUE abhishek : You should ask these questions in the class.
cbcb4a107 : HOW CAN I IMPROVE MY VERBAL ABILITY IN THIS 4 MONTHS? asim : A lot of tips pertaining to this have been already mentioned by us, please check the chat transript.
ridwan : I JOINED THE COACHING LAST WEEK SO ONLY MINIMAL AMOUNT IS THERE FOR PREPARATION , SO IS IT POSSIBLE TO GET GOOD PERCENTILE ON VARC ? asim : Yes, every year a lot of students successfully crack CAT exam with 3-5 months preparation. Just follow the inputs of faculty members.
mucb4a223 : HOW MUCH SUM TO SOLVE FOR DI/LR govindrajan : Your question is not clear.
hocc4w052 : HOW MANY STUDENTS FROM TIME INSTITUTE JOINED IN IIM ABC LAST YEAR? abhishek : You may check this link later. https://www.time4education.com/local/articlecms/page.php?id=1648
: GOOD EVENING TEAM, WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO LEARN DLRI AND MAKE STRATEGY IN IT? govindrajan : Start with classroom handouts followed by online foundation tests and then exercise (a) of each chapter. After covering a few topics you may start attempting online intermediate tests. Simultaneously solve questions from Self administered AIMCATs. You may start solving exercise (b) and online advanced tests. After a couple of months you start practicing questions from lot 2 material. Approach to DILR sets: Once you read the initial few lines of a puzzle/DI set, you will get to know what kind of puzzle/DI set we are going to solve. This way we can have a smooth flow of thought process and take less time to solve.
e : TOTALLY HOW MANY MATERIALS ARE PROVIDED FROM UR INSTITUTE? asim : The BSM booklets list is available on your SHP ( depending on the course you have enrolled into ).
adca4a510 : I WOULD TO LIKE TO ASK YOU ABOUT THE CORRECT APPROACH TO SOLVE THE VA QUESTIONS IN WHICH OPTIONS ARE NOT GIVEN. THOSE ARE A LITTLE DIFFICULT FOR ME SOLVE. I WANNA MAXIMIZE THE ADVANTAGE THAT I AM GETTING IN TITA QUESTIONS. lakshmymenon : For para jumble questions, try to identify pairs of sentences by looking for connectives. Then look at the idea flow - does it seem to be general-specific or the other way round? This will help you spot the first sentence. Look for other patterns too, such as cause-effect, problem -solution etc.
gowthaman : IN QUANTS ARITHMETICS AND ALGEBRA WITH GOOD ACCURACY WILL GIVE YOU 90+ PERCENTILE. LIKE THAT WHAT TOPIC WE CAN SAY FOR DILR? abhishek : Unfortunately no such topic for LR and DI. To some extent, i may say venn diagrams. But that is not true in the past couple of years.
jayani : HI, I AM FACING PROBLEM IN RC. I AM NOT GETTING ACCURATE ANSWERS. WHAT SHOULD I DO? lakshmymenon : First of all, you need not attempt all questions based on a passage just because you read that passage. For each question, eliminate the obviously wrong options first, then for each confusing option, revisit the relevant part of the passage. Try to spot distortions, far-fetched statements etc. in one of the options. If you're still confused, just leave the question rather than risk negative marks.
himanshu : SIR HOW CAN I ATTEMPT THE AIM CAT THAT I HAVE MISSED IN PAST abhishek : Yes. They will be made available for all the students in a few weeks.
dlcn4q264 : GOOD EVENING TEAM, I AM FACING PROBLEM IN VERBAL ABILITY. WHAT SHOULD I DO? amitpoddar : You need to practise specific chapters from the SM booklets after every VA class you attend. Then, based on the doubts from those chapters, take doubt sessions.
mucb4a223 : AND WHAT SHOULD BE THE MAIN TOPIC TO FOCUS? asim : It is not advisable to indulge in selective preparation, you need to prepare for all the topics provided in the T.I.M.E. study material, skipping any topic could be pretty risky.
cbcb4a107 : IN DI, IT CONSUME MORE TIME, BY ADDING, SUBRACTING AND CONVERTING INTO PERCENTAGE OR RATIO. IS THERE ANY WAY TO SOLVE IT QUICK AND SOME PIE CHART QUESTIONS MAKE MORE CONFUSED abhishek : There could be better ways, but it depends on the set and data.
siri : SIR WE FACING ONE ISSUE IN DI,AFTER CHECKING THE DATA .WE ANALYSE BUT CAN NOT GET THE CORRECT ANSWER asim : Initial this happens with most of the students, the key to improvement is by doing lots of practice and incase you have doubts and queries get them clarified with faculty members on a regular basis.
jayani : ARE THE QUESTIONS GIVEN IN THE STUDY MATERIAL HAVE THE SAME DIFFICULTY LEVEL AS CAT QUESTIONS? abhishek : It is mixed level of difficulty, just like CAT.
akansha : HOW TO KNOW THAT WHICH SET IS GOOD TO DO AND THAT SET TAKES LESSER TIME ALSO bharat : That's a skill you get after putting in hours of practice... consistent practice in a particular test area/ question type would help you identify familiar question types in the tests
parimal : GOOD EVENING. MY QUERY IS REGARDING VARC. MANY A TIMES I GET CONFUSED BETWEEN TWO CLOSE STATEMENTS IN RC QUESTIONS. CAN U GIVE SOME TRICK TO ELIMINATE OPTION IN RC. amitpoddar : Try to first understand the demand of the question, whether the question asks you to fijnd the assumption, inference, etc. Then based on that see the difference between the two so called close options. If the question is specific to a para then mark the option which is specific and if the question is general, choose the option which is more general in nature. Also, discuss the close options with your batchmates and the FM.
cbcb4a107 : HOW MANY HOURS I SHOULD STUDY TO CRACK CAT 2024 WITH MORE THAN 90 PERCENTILE amitpoddar : 5-7 hrs of productive study plan should be good enough. Practise at least 2 areas everyday and take 4-5 sectional tests every week.
siri : IN DI WE CAN NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT THE QUESTION CLEARLY SAYS WHERE I DO MISTAKE I DID NOT KNOW SIR abhishek : Practice DI more, you will eventually understand. DI will require practice. Just keep doing that.
gowthaman : HELLO! I AM NEED TO DISCUSS ABOUT MY PERFORMANCE AND FEW QUERIES. CAN I HAVE ANY 1:1 MENTORSHIP? asim : Yes, you can, please visit your T.I.M.E. center or write an email to info@time4education.com (mention your T.I.M.E. ID number).
ks : I USUALLY UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT IN CLASS BUT WHEN I PRACTICE AT HOME I GET CONFUSED AND OFTEN MESS UP MY SOLUTIONS. IT TAKES ME A LOT OF TIME TO SOLVE A SINGLE QUESTION abhishek : Revisit the concepts and do the question again. Also, it can be a good idea to go through the solutions to learn the approach for problem solving.
ashwin : TO MAKE MY BASICS OF QUANT STRONG WHAT SHOULD I SOLVE FIRST SM1002220, SM OR ANYTHING ELSE? asim : You can begin with the three basis study material booklets, make sure you work with both the exercises provided to you. Follow it up with online sectional tests. Collect your doubts and discuss with faculty members.
lnca4a241 : SIR/MA'AM CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME THAT HOW MANY QUESTIONS CAME FROM WHICH CHAPTER OF LRDI IN PREVIOUS YEAR'S EXAM? bharat : Not something that we share with students... this is because there were three slots last year and the number of specific model question types changes between slots and years... pls focus on practicing and getting better
hocc4w052 : I NEED TO DISCUSS FEW QUESTIONS CAN I HAVE 1:1 MENTORSHIP asim : Yes, you can, please visit your T.I.M.E. center or write an email to info@time4education.com (mention your T.I.M.E. ID number).
bhcb4a911 : HI SIR. I STARTED MY PREPARATION IN LAST MONTH. IN THE LAST MOCK OF 2519. I JUST SCORED 25 MARKS. AND I COULDN'T EVEN SCORE A SINGLE CORRECT ANSWER IN RC. I ATTEMPTED 5 QUESTIONS IN RC IN WHICH ALL 5 ARE INCORRECT. HOW TO DEVELOP IN RC amitpoddar : Start reading from different genres on a regular basis from the SHP(reading links). Practise passages from the SM booklets and the sectional tests. Do a lot of CR based questions.
sid : WHAT SHOULD BE THE CORRECT APPROACH TO SOLVE THE VARC SECTION SO THAT I CAN ATTEMPT ALL THE QUESTIONS OF THE PART. SHOULD IT BE SOLVED IN THE SAME ORDER AS THE QUESTIONS ARE AND SHOULD THE WHOLE PASSAGE BE READ FIRST FOR THE RC PART? lakshmymenon : 1. It may not be a great idea to attempt all questions since there are negative marks. If you get approximately 50 per cent marks in each section, you will be close to the 99th percentile. So, focus more on being selective. 2. The order depends on your comfort level. You may even want to skip a passage. 3. Definitely read the ENTIRE passage and understand the central idea as well as the author's tone properly before answering the questions.
gowthaman : @ABHISHEK: SIR, IIM A,B,C TIME ALUMINI IS NOT IN THE LINK. abhishek : Keep checking, we will update it in a few days.
koustav : I AM UNABLE TO VIEW TEST SOLUTION OF QUANT SECTION INTERMEDIATE TEST SERIES asim : Please use a different browswer and check, at times that solves the issue, if it does not work , please write an email to info@time4education.com, mention this issue along with test code of the test.
siri : WHEN WE PRACTISE A DI WE STUCK IN ONE QUESTION . WE MOVE ON OR DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN abhishek : Of course, one should move on. You do not have lot of time to try a set again and again.
neha : SIR AM FACING ALOT OF ISSUE TO UNDERSTAND A SINGLE TOPIC CAN YOU PLEASE TELL WHAT SHALL I DO AM I DONT I CAN SCORE MINIMUM MARKS ALSO NOT ABLE TO GET A SINGLE TOPIC asim : I strongly recommend you do not panic. Start with the basic study material booklets/handouts. Collect your doubts and regularly discuss with faculty members. Make sure you constantly revise what you have learnt on a weekly basis. Do loads of practice.
cattopper : AFTER SOLVING HANDOUT PROBLEMS OF A TOPIC IN CLASS AND EXERCISE PROBLEMS IN BOOK FOR ALL TOPICS IS ENOUGH TO GET STRONGER IN THAT TOPIC? asim : Its a good start, then follow up with online sectional tests.
madhu : SIR HOW TO I ANSWER RC WHERE TWO OPTIONS SEEM PLAUSIBLE lakshmymenon : First of all, you need not attempt all questions based on a passage just because you read that passage. For each question, eliminate the obviously wrong options first, then for each confusing option, revisit the relevant part of the passage. Try to spot distortions, far-fetched statements, logical flaws, external data etc. in one of the options. If you're still confused, just leave the question rather than risk negative marks.
avinashpathak : HI,HOW TO DEAL WITH A PASSAGE WHICH HAS WAY TOO MUCH INFORMATION AND ALSO HAS DIFFERENT IDEAS RUNNING THROUGHOUT THE PASSAGE.ANY TIPS lakshmymenon : Learn to quickly identify the key ideas in each para and skim over the details. You can, and must, revisit the passage to look for details while answering the questions.
siri : IS THEIR ANY SHORT CUT TO MULTIPLYING 4 DIGIT NUMBER abhishek : Yes. There are better ways. But it will difficult to explain here.
ishansharma : I AM UNABLE TO UNDERSTAND WHERE TO START IN VARC amitpoddar : Please start from the RC and the VA booklets. Do one chapter each from both the booklets everyday. Take 3-4 sectional tests in a week from the SHP.
ridwan : I DONT UNDERSTAND WHERE TO START FOR PREPARATION? amitpoddar : Please start from the booklets chapter wise. Take some doubt classes as well.
ridwan : I HAVE LITERALLY LESS KNOWLEDGE ON ENGLISH WHAT ALL THE THINGS WE SHOULD DO TO IMPROVE THIS? lakshmymenon : Attend classes and take mocks regularly. Take sectional tests for all areas in VARC. Read the editorial of a newspaper such as the Hindu and try to write down the central idea in one sentence. Read 1-2 articles every day on a range of subjects. Look up the meanings of new words in a dictionary and write them down in a notebook. Revise these from time to time.
bhcd4w007 : GOOD EVENING SIR, I AM FACING PROBLEM IN SOLVING RCS AND LR PROBLEM DESPITE PRACTICING EVERYDAY MY SCORE IS NOT GOOD AND PERCENTILE ALSO PLEASE TELL ME AND STRATEGY SHOULD I FOLLOW WHILE ATTEMPTING QUESTIONS TO IMPROVE MY SCORE amitpoddar : pls book a counselling session with the respective FMs at your centre. Contact your centre manager.
james_bond : THOUGH I AM PRACTICING THE RCS DON'T SEEM MUCH GOOD. PLEASE SUPPORT amitpoddar : Pls focus focus on the question types asked in the passages. Apart from diverse reading, practise some Critical reasoning questions to improve your accuracy.
sanika : PLEASE LET ME KNOW THE NUMBER OF QUESTIONS TO BE SOLVED IN DILR AND VARC MOCKS TO GET HIGHER PERCENTILE asim : While it is not possible to predict exact number of questions to be done correctly to get a good percentile as it would depend on the difficulty level of exam, for instance last couple of years in CAT around 50% of the questions attempted with good accuracy fetched a pretty good percentile.
kriti : HI I WANT TO KNOW WHATS THE RIGHT APPROACH TO PICK DILR QUESTION govindrajan : This comes only by practice. As you practice, you will be able to relate the pattern of the given information and the questions with likely difficulty level of the set.
sd : ASIM SIR HOW SHOULD WE ANALYSE THE AIMCATS PROPERLY TO ELIMINATE FUTURE MISTAKES? WHAT SHOULD BE THE PROCEDURE? asim : After each AIMCAT, spend at least two to three hours in analysing each section of the paper. This is undoubtedly the most enriching experience that you can extract out of the AIMCATs. Step-1: Attempt all those questions in that section that you left unattempted during the AIMCAT. Step-2: Try solving questions that may still be left over. Only after giving all the questions a good try, check the answer key to find out which questions you could answer correctly and re-attempt all those questions that you answered wrongly. You would be able to learn a great deal from this step since you would actually be pushing yourself to think harder and find out where you have made mistakes. Do not look at the solutions until you are finished with this step. Step-3: You can refer the solutions and compare your approach with that given in the solutions. You should keenly observe and learn anything new that you may find in the solutions. At the end of this stage of your analysis, you should try to categorize the questions into levels of difficulty based on the understanding required and the amount of time that you would take to solve each of them in an exam situation. This is a very important step that will help you in identifying the level of a question, a critical input required when trying to choose the right questions to attempt in the AIMCAT or the actual CAT. Step-4: Carefully look up the extensive analysis – Section-wise, Area-wise, Difficulty Level wise and much more – that is provided to you on the Student Homepage after the results are declared. The AIMCAT results and analysis that are made available on the website are meticulously designed, comprehensive, and personalized analyses that are intended to give you valuable feedback regarding your performance. This feedback will guide you towards a better, more focused and effective preparation and can set you on a path of continuous improvement. Another practical way to boost your learning is to sometimes study, if possible, with your peers in small groups of not more than three to four members. You can analyze and discuss each AIMCAT as a group, after each member is through with his share of individual analysis. This a very good approach to maximize your learning. The group should ideally be formed with members with strengths in different areas so that there is scope for everyone to gain from the joint effort.
james_bond : IN "CHOOSE THE BEST WAY TO WRITE THE SENTENCE", I AM CONTINUOUSLY FLUNKING ! lakshmymenon : The exercise I mentioned above - reading with a timer and trying to summarise the essence in 1 sentence - will help you understand the author's perspective better. This will help with para summaries.
kdwaikar : SIR VARC IS FEELING SCARY IF I AM AIMING FOR FMS I NEED THAT 100ILE IN VARC CURRENTLY I'M NOT ON TRACK TO REACH THERE amitpoddar : Pls focus chapterwise and see which chapters you lack the most- para formation, para summary ,odd man, vocab, etc. Then start from the SM booklets and then go to the sectional tests. Analyse teh SAMCAts and the AIMCATs regularly.
sd : LAKSHMY MA'AM HOW CAN WE IMPROVE ACCURACY WHILE SOLVING INFERENCE TYPE RC QUESTIONS lakshmymenon : Firstly, please treat every RC question as an inference question since there are hardly any direct questions. Even the specific detail questions require you to make an inference. Secondly, for each question, eliminate the obviously wrong questions first. Then revisit the relevant part of the passage and compare each confusing option. Try to spot distortions, exaggerations, irrelevance etc. in one of the options. before making an inference and picking an option, ask yourself - can I understand this from the passage, or am I imagining something? If you're still confused, just leave the question!
gowthaman : I SAW THAT JULY 6TH AIMCAT FROM TIME INSTITUTE IS OPEN MOCK. SO IS IT WE CAN EXPECT SLIGHT INCREASE PERCENTILE FOR TIME STUDENTS? asim : The number of competitors will surely go up, you will surely do well if you have been preparing well though. All the best.
cattopper : WHETHER TAKING AIMCAT IS SIMILAR TO THAT OF CAT IN UI AND SOFTWARE AND CALCULATOR asim : Yes, we simulate the same UI and interface.
sriram : WHAT IS THE MINIMUM SECTIONAL CUTOFF FOR VARC AND DILR? asim : If you belong to general category aim at atleast 80+
drcb4a206 : SIR/MA'AM, I AM PRACTICING RCS DAILY ALONG WITH READING ARTICLES, BUT MY VARC SCORE IS ON THE DECLINE, WHAT ELSE SHOULD I DO? asim : Analyse your performance, identify the mistakes you are making in these questions, collect your doubts, discuss with a faculty member asap.
k : HOW DO I MANAGE, ALL THREE SUBJECTS IN A DAY I FEEL I DO VARC AND QA DAILY BUT UNABLE TO DO SAME WITH THE DILR. asim : It is not possible/advisable to do this if you are working professional or a college going student, make a daily time table and a weekly one. You need to prepare all the areas, but necessarily on the same day. You can prepare 1-2 areas in a day but rotate the topics.
neha : SIR IN CAT EVERY SECTION HAS NEGATIVE MRKING bharat : yes... but non-MCQ has no negative marking
sd : THANK YOU SIR asim : You are welcome
sd : HOW CAN WE IMPROVE ACCURACY WHILE SOLVING INFERENCE TYPE RC QUESTIONS amitpoddar : Pls do a backward check for the option you marked as your answer and just try to locate the fact of the case from where you drew the inference. Inferences are unknown from the known. Practise some CR based questions.
sd : DO WE NEED TO TAKE GMAT BEFORE CAT TO APPLY FOR SPJIMR OR AFTER CAT? asim : No, if you are writing/preparing for CAT then it is enough. You can apply to SPJIMR with CAT/GMAT not necessary to write both the exams.
koustav : ASIM: PLEASE USE A DIFFERENT BROWSWER AND CHECK, AT TIMES THAT SOLVES THE ISSUE, IF IT DOES NOT WORK , PLEASE WRITE AN EMAIL TO INFO@TIME4EDUCATION.COM, MENTION THIS ISSUE ALONG WITH TEST CODE OF THE TEST. I HAVE DONE BOTH PLEASE FIX THE SUBMIT TEST ISSUE FROM THE WEBAPP asim : Please do write an email to info@time4education.com.
k : I DO PRACTICE RCS DAILY SOMETIMES MAX I'VE SCORED IN SECTIONAL TEST IS 77%ILE. BUT WHEN I PRACTICE RC ON MY OWN I GET A WHOLE RC CORRECT FEW TIMES AND AT LEAST 4 QUES CORRECT DURING AIMCATS OR SECTIONAL TESTS THIS GOES DOWN TO 2-3 QUES CORRECT. HOWEVER TODAY ONLY I GOT A WHOLE RC CORRECT IN SECTIONAL TEST. HOW SHOULD I IMPROVE? lakshmymenon : Getting 2-3 questions right in AIMCATs are fine since they are often tougher than sectionals. However, why do you need to attempt all 4 questions based on a passage in AIMCAT? Question selection is an important part of your test-taking strategy. So, learn to identify and leave confusing questions. This will help you to improve accuracy.
neha : SIR I DONT HAVE ANY IDEA ABOUT THE SYULLBUS OR BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF CHAPTERS SO THE MOCK TEST OF AIMCAT I CANT GIVE RIGHT asim : You must write all the AIMCATs, in case you just started preparation for CAT, then take the first few AIMCATs as diagnostic tests, they will help you identify your strengths and weaknesses. It will also help improve your mental stamina.
manu : HOW DO I REMAIN CALM WHILE TRYING TO SOLVE RCS? I PRACTICE RCS DAILY FROM VARIED SOURCES. WHAT MORE CAN I DO TO IMPROVE MY SCORE? lakshmymenon : Try practising with a timer, at a reading speed of 200-250 words per minute. Do a word count, and then set the timer. Finish reading the passage before the timer is off, then without looking at the passage, try to write the central idea in one sentence. Keep practising this. Stay calm and do not try to remember all the details. Just try to understand the central idea of each para.
neha : SIR AS ONE MOCK IS ON TH JULY IF WE DONT AATEND IT ON TH JULY LATER WE CANT ACCESS TO THE LINK FOR MOCK OR WE CAN? asim : Any aimcat that you miss you will only get access to it 2 months before CAT exam. i recommend you do not skip AIMCATs.
drcb4a206 : SHOULD I FOCUS ON THE ATTEMPT RATE NOW OR THE ACCURACY RATE? abhishek : If you are starting now you must focus on accuracy, later you can start focusing on attempts.
poornima : HI, SHOULD I FOCUS ON VOCABULARY BUILDING AND GRAMMAR AS WELL, OR JUST READING EXTENSIVELY IS OKAY? ALSO, WHAT READING MATERIAL WOULD YOU SUGGEST: AEON ESSAYS OR THE HINDU EDITORIAL? lakshmymenon : Vocabulary building should go hand in hand with reading. After you read the passage once, go back and look up the meanings of new words in a dictionary. Note them down in a book and revise these notes from time to time. Hindu editorial and Aeon are good resources. Aeon Essays are long, so try to read 3-4 paragraphs (CAT passages are usually 500 words long). You may also explore other sources such as Scroll, Guardian, National Geographic, BBC etc.
arun : HOW CAN I INCREASE MY ATTEMPTS AND ACCURACY IN VARC AND WHAT IS YOUR RECOMMENDED ACCURACY..? lakshmymenon : Accuracy - 80 per cent. Number of attempts: Depends on accuracy. Even 50 percent marks should get you close to 99 percentile. So, do not bother much about increasing attempts. In fact, you should learn to be selective while attempting questions.
sd : I HAVE A GOOD ATTEMPT RATE IN VARC AROUND 15-17 QUESTIONS BUT I ONLY GET AROUND 10-12 CORRECT AND END UP LOSING MARKS. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GO ABOVE 33 SCORE. HOW CAN I IMPROVE QUESTION SELECTION? lakshmymenon : First of all, a score of 33 in most CATs should get you 95+, so you're on the right track. 15-17 attempts can get you 99+, but you need to improve accuracy. Try to spend more time comparing confusing options, revisiting the passage and trying to identify distortions, far-fetched statements etc. in one option. If it is still confusing, quickly leave the question and try to identify another one.You are doing fine - your accuracy will improve with a little more focused practice.
k : ON SOME DAYS, I DON'T FEEL LIKE STUDYING. LIKE I'VE STUDIED FOR 4-5 DAYS. ON 6TH DAY, I GET DEMOTIVATED AND ALL THE NEGATIVE THOUGHTS. I STARTED PREPARING PROPERLY FROM JUNE HOWEVER ENROLLED BY MID MARCH. I GET DOUBTS IF I'LL BE ABLE TO MAKE IT THIS YEAR ITSELF. IT GETS TOUGH FOR ME TO FIND POSITIVES SINCE ONLY A FEW TIMES I GET GOOD RESULTS OTHER TIMES BAD. I FEEL JADED. lakshmymenon : A very important aspect of a manager's job is stress management, as you surely know. Once you go to a B-school, you will have to do a huge amount of multi-tasking, and keep yourself motivated despite setbacks. So, while preparing now, set realistic targets every day and try to meet them. Do not overburden yourself. Focus on improving your weak areas. Take successes and setbacks as part of the learning experience. Find time for leisure and relaxation too.
sanjukta : "ALPES, LATEST WHOS, LAT, DWHO,DAT, DEX HANDOUTS" WHAT ARE THESE? WHERE DO I GET THEM? asim : These are handouts, if you are a full course student then you will be taught/provided these during the program on your student homepage.
sudhanwa : REMEMBERING ANCIENT EUROPIAN LANGUAGE ORIGIN ENGLISH WORDS IN VOCABULARY WITHOUT ANY BACKGROUND THERE IS HEFTY TASK. HOW TO MANAGE WITH THAT? amitpoddar : Apart from diverse reading, focus on the class handouts and vocab e book(SHP) for vocabulary. Also , wrote 15-20 new words with meaning and usage from whatever you read on a a daily basis.
fatima : FOR DI/LR & VA/RC, ARE THIS TIME MATERIALS ENOUGH? amitpoddar : More than enough. Pls solve the 2 packets of the material, three levels of sectional tests, 50+ AIMCATS and SAMCATs , (SHP)reading links, word of the day , vocab e book, etc.
ptcb4a134 : SIR, WHEN I SOLVED THE QUESTION OF QA. HEY TAKE LONG TIME .HOW TO REDUCE SLOVING TIME? asim : Work with the speed maths concepts, prepare with the study material booklet provided for the same. While practicing try to do most of the steps in mind and minimum steps on paper. Keep practicing with rest of the study material provided. All the best.
asin : HELLO! I HAVE BEEN PRACTICING VARC FROM PAST MONTH I HAVE BEEN DOING 2 PASSAGES AND 10 PARA JUMBLES FROM GIVEN MATERIAL EVERYDAY. BUT MY ACCURACY STILL FALLS UNDER 50%. IS THERE ANY OTHER APPROACH THAT I CAN FOLLOW. CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME HOW MUCH TIME I NEED TO SPEND EVERYDAY AND WHAT ARTICLES I NEED TO READ. lakshmymenon : Along with practising the passages, you have to analyse your mistakes thoroughly. Try to understand the flaws in your logic, and make notes of these if required. Revise these points before you practise the next set. Take AIMCATs regularly and watch the video solutions. Read the Hindu editorial and articles from various sources such as Aeon Essays (these are long - read 3-4 paras),Scroll, National Geographic, BBC etc.
james_bond : I AM TAKING A LONG TIME WHILE ATTEMPTING THE VARC SECTION PLEASE (I AM EXCEEDING THE TIME LIMIT). PLEASE GUIDE ME THROUGH lakshmymenon : Read The Hindu Editorials, or any article of around 500 words every day, with a timer. Do a word count of the passage, then set the timer at a reading speed of 200-250 words per minute. You have to finish reading the article by the time the timer goes off - which means you should keep looking at the timer too. Initially you may not understand anything - that is okay. This is how you practise skimming. After reading, cover the article and write down the central idea in exactly one sentence. Then read the article again slowly. This time, try to identify the key idea of every para. Then, after you finish reading, check the 1 sentence summary you wrote and see if you got it right. Do this every day, and you will see improvement.
siri : HOW TO IMPROVE LOGICAL THINKING SIR govindrajan : For every piece of information given in the puzzle, identify all possible interpretations and consider all possibilities while solving. Once you read the initial few lines of a puzzle/DI set, you will get to know what kind of puzzle/DI set we are going to solve.

BECAUSE WHENEVER I START READING THEM I LOSE FOCUS HALF WAY THROUGH AND DONT UNDERSTAND THE PASSAGE, BECAUSE IT HAS NEARLY 4000 WORDS lakshmymenon : 1. If you still insist on an answer, I would say a minimum of 25-35 hours ( excluding the classes ) per week routine is recommended. You should ensure that you distribute the time among all the areas ( as almost all IIMs and some of the other top -B-schools have provision for sectional cutoffs ).The distribution ratio would depend on your comfort level in that area,Make sure that you do not ignore your weaker areas, in fact devote a little extra time for those areas.

Then revisit the relevant part of the passage and compare each confusing option. If you're still confused, just leave the question!
