Preparations tips – Quantitative Aptitude, DI and Reasoning for SBI PO Exam!
(Chat Transcript)

gourav : HELLO SIR, I HAVE BEEN A REGULAR CLASSROOM STUDENT OF T.I.M.E. I HAVE BEEN GIVING REGULAR TESTS FOR THE LAST 6 MONTHS. MY SCORES HAVE GONE UP FROM 0 LEVEL TO AVERAGE LEVEL. HOW MANY TESTS SHOULD I APPEAR SO THAT I CAN REACH THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF SCORES AND I QUALIFY FOR THE PRELIMS?
supratim : Writing test is just one part of preparation . Next part is to learn from mistakes what we do in tests . Please do the analysis of the test after you finish writing it. Find out your weak areas . Then start putting effort to rectify . In general we face problems in Analytical Puzzles , RC , GA . So be careful about allotting adequate time for those areas . Thumb Rule : We have to know more to score more. Keep on writing tests . Keep on improving . Enjoy the process of learning . All The Best.

gourav : I MEANT THE MAINS.
supratim : Minimum 5 more.

musj7a286 : HELLO SIR CAN I KNOW THE CUT OFF FOR GENERAL CATEGORY STUDENTS?
supratim : Please go through the below mentioned link to know previous years cut off's http://www.time4education.com/BankExams/Previous-Exam-Analyses/PO-Exam-Analyses

sonu : SIR FOR SBI PO HOW MANY MARKS DI SECTION WILL COVER AND OTHER SECTIONS
hussain : In prelims 10 questions, and mains 20 to 22 questions and rest for other Sections

musj7a450 : HELLO SIR, IDEALLY HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD WE KEEP FOR QA SECTION?
hussain : You have to fix 20 min. time for Q.A

sachin : HOW TO PREPARE FOR MATHS
supratim : Please do start from basic . 1) Improve your calculation speed 2) Solve simple equation , ratio proportion - variation chapter and then move to percentage -profit & loss . 3) Please do solve average mixture chapter next . 4) Then move on to any other chapter . Please learn all concepts first then start solving . Next step is to write online sectional tests . In the beginning you will do mistakes . Learn from your mistakes and move on. All The Best.

ms : SIR, COULD YOU PLEASE TELL US, IN DI WHICH SET OF QUESTIONS SHOULD WE GO FOR, WHICH SET OF QUESTIONS TO IGNORE
hussain : In DI, it is better to leave or Ignore Caselet, in the other types of representations like Table, Bar graph, Line graph, Pie chart etc., try to answer the easy and moderate questions only, try to answer the selected questions out five questions in one set in five min.

gourav : SIR I AM AN ENGLISH MEDIUM STUDENT SO RC HAS NOT BEEN A PROBLEM FOR ME. SOLVING ANALYTICAL PUZZLES HARDLY TAKES 2 MINS. AND GA IS REQUIRED FOR PRELIMS?
supratim : GA is not required for prelims. But start your GA preparation from now on. Write online sectional tests . Find out weak areas and prepare more to improve them.

nida : IDEALLY HOW MANY QUESTIONS IN EACH SECTION SHOULD WE ATTEMPT WITHOUT WASTING TOO MUCH TIME ON ANY SINGLE SECTION
supratim : Depends on paper difficulty level . Do not waste time in any difficult questions. You will find enough easy questions to solve. But please remember , NO strategy works without knowledge . So practise more . Write online sectional tests .

musj7a286 : SIR WHICH ARE THE IMP TOPICS TO BE COVERED IN APTITUDE? AS WE HAVE LESS TIME I WANT TO PREPARE FOR IMPORTANT TOPICS SO THAT I CAN CLEAR THE CUT OFF
hussain : More practice is required on the following topics in quant. Percentages, Profit & Loss, Equations Ratio Proportion and variations, Time & Work, Time & Distance, Simple & Compound Interest, Averages, These topics not only important in quant. but also in DI. Accuracy is very important

sachin : HOW DO WE COVER FOR ENGLISH
hussain : Hello Sachin, Chat session on Preparation of English is on 20th March 2017

gourav : THANK YOU SIR.
hussain : Welcome

gourav : HOW DIFFICULT CAN ANALYTICAL PUZZLES BE FOR THE PRELIMS?
supratim : Analytical Puzzles can come difficult in Prelims as well . Do not take any chance. Prepare each and every difficulty level questions. Difficulty level of analytical puzzles increase if we increase number of indefinite information . Be prepared for that.

nida : WHICH TYPE OF ANALYTICAL PUZZLE SHOULD WE DEFINITELY ATTEMPT AND WHICH ARE TO BE AVOIDED AS IT COULD END UP TAKING A LOT OF TIME
krishnakuppachi : We should attempt the analytical puzzles in the following order: Ranking/Order based questions (floor number wise, heights-ranking, etc), Distribution, Linear (Single row), Circular (all facing same direction), Linear (two rows), Circular (different directions), Circular+Blood Relations (at the last)

gourav : IN CASE OF CIRCULAR ARRANGEMENT, IF A STUDENT SITS THREE PLACES FROM THE RIGHT. IT INDICATES?
krishnakuppachi : In circular arrangement, since its a loop and does not have end points, right of whom is required to be given. In the question that you have posed, the information is not complete. It should include 'from the right of ___'

gourav : IN QA, IF WE SKIP TIME AND WORK/TIME AND DISTANCE .. HOW MANY MARKS DO I LOSE?
supratim : Why should you skip ? You have enough time to prepare for both . Just think of a situation - T&W and T&D questions are easy and other chapter questions are difficult in exam . then what ?

sachin : HOW DO WE SOLVE 40 QUESTIONS IN 20 MINS FOR QUANTITATIVE APTITUDE
hussain : In prelims 35 questions in 20 mins. where as in mains 35 questions in 45 min.

gourav : IN REASONING,CAN WE EXPECT QUESTIONS OF DATA SUFFICIENCY IN PRELIMS?
krishnakuppachi : Pattern of the papers have been changing in the last 2 sessions. It is better to be prepared for such questions. And moreover, once the basics of reasoning are prepared, DS becomes easier. It only takes some practice.

gourav : CAN I APPLY FROM ANY OTHER STATE WHILE GIVING THE SBI PO EXAMS?
hussain : Yes, You can

gourav : A STUDENTS SITS FROM THE RIGHT OF X. IT MEANS?
krishnakuppachi : Hi gourav, i presume, you are continuing the previous question of circular arrangement. If it is said that the student sits third from the right of X, then we count three leaving X to place the student... meaning... X, 1, 2, 3 (is your Student). Hope it clarifies

nida : HOW IMPORTANT IS INDICES AND SURDS AND PERMUTATIONS & COMBINATION FROM THE EXAM POINT OF VIEW
supratim : Its important to know both chapters. It may possible questions will be there from these 2 chapters . Do not take any chance.

gourav : SIR I MISSED MY IBPS PO EXAMS BY JUST 2.4 MARKS. AND IT HAPPENED DUE TO QA. IT DOESNT IMPROVE EVEN AFTER REGULAR TESTS.WHAT DO I DO?
supratim : Practise more . Here in SBI PO , you can change the fortune with DI . Practise a lot to improve calculation speed . Then start practising DI . but it does not mean you can not learn T&W and T&D . Learn ratio - proportion - variation first and then move on to those 2 chapters.

sachin : IN PRELIMS 35 QUESTIONS IN 20 MINS. WHERE AS IN MAINS 35 QUESTIONS IN 45 MIN. HOW DO WE SOLVE
hussain : Select & Solve easy and moderate questions (More number of questions easy and moderate only, Very less number of questions are difficult).

sonu : HI KPK SIR FOR SBI PO NEW PATTERN OF DEDUCTIONS IS ASKING FIRST THEY ARE GIVING CONCLUSIONS AND WE NEED TO FIND OUT WHICH STATEMENTS FOLLOWS THAT CONCLUSION.MY QUESTION IS FOR EACH STATEMENT WE NEED TO DRAW VENN DIAGRAM IS COMPULSORY OR ANY OTHER METHOD IS THERE FOR THIS TYPE OF QUESTIONS
krishnakuppachi : Venn Diagrams is always the best method to work out these questions.

gourav : HOW MANY TESTS APPROXIMATELY SHOULD I PRACTISE SO THAT I CAN QUALIFY THE SBI PO PRELIMS EASILY?
hussain : Kindly don't get stick to the number of practice paper, try to practice more and more

akshay : HOW TO SOLVE SEATING ARRANGEMENT PROBLEMS IN LESS TIME? I USUALLY TAKE AROUNG 10 MINS TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM.
krishnakuppachi : Crux for solving seating arrangement, is to start with conditions having least options. Fix the people whose positions are specific, then pick up other people who have fewer options. Let's say A can sit in the 2nd position or 3rd position, then I would suggest to draw two diagrams, with A in 2nd position in one diagram and A in 3rd position in another diagram. This way you have ensured that the condition is used and you have one less condition to think. For conditions, where a person can be in more than 2 places, we leave the condition and come back to it, after we fill as many positions. Start practicing in this fashion and I'm sure the time it takes reduces further.

gourav : IN DI, HOW DO WE CALCULATE THE PERCENTAGE INCREASE FROM THE PREVIOUS YEAR?
hussain : Percentage increase or more, we calculate by using difference of (final value and initial value) divided by initial value

gourav : SIR CAN I ASK AN EXACT QUESTION IN THIS CHAT?
hussain : Suggestion is better to avail doubt session, other wise you can

sonu : SIR I MEAN TO SAY HOW TO SOLVE SUCH TYPE OF DEDUCTION QUESTIONS
sashikumar : first check out whether the conclusions are affirmative or not, if they are affirmative all the negative statement choices can be eliminated because a negative conclusion cannot be drawn from all the affirmative statements and vice versa.for the remaining choices then start drawing the venn diagrams

saif : SIR,HOW MUCH IMPORTANT PROBABILITY SECTION FROM THE EXAM POINT OF VIEW
supratim : Its important . Do not take any chance in things which is not in our hand. You have time to improve on this chapter . Please do that. For previous paper analysis please go through the mentioned link . http://www.time4education.com/BankExams/Previous-Exam-Analyses/PO-Exam-Analyses#

nida : WHICH IS THE BEST APPROACH FOR THE EXAM: 1. READ ALL THE QUESTIONS TOGETHER THEN DECIDE WHICH ONE TO GO AHEAD WITH . 2. READ THE QUESTIONS INDIVIDUALLY AND SOLVE IT THEN GO FOR NEXT QUESTION.
krishnakuppachi : Hi nida, the first approach is the best approach. But you need to be careful not to waste too much time. You need to be quick in reading the questions and judging which questions to pick up. Speed is of utmost importance.

sachin : HOW MANY HOURS A DAY SHOULD BE ALOTTED EVERYDAY
supratim : There is no ideal answer . It depends on your learning ability and available time. But I want to believe you are serious about the exam so please do spend minimum 4 to 5 hours everyday . spend more time if need be.

sonu : SIR IN CRITICAL REASONING AND DS TOPICS CONFUSES ME A LOT HOW TO OVERCOME CONFUSION IN THIS PARTICULAR TOPICS
krishnakuppachi : For critical reasoning, i would suggest you to regularly revisit the notes that we give in the class. This will help you avoid confusion. Btw, are you a student of T.I.M.E.? For DS, you need to practice answering the question with only one statement. Only if any one statement alone is not sufficient, then we need to combine the statements to check for sufficiency.

abhinandanhj : HI , HAVE ONE DOUBT. CONVERTED BOTH GREAT LAKES PGPM AND TAPMI. 3+ YEARS OF EXP IN IT.. WHICH SHOULD BE BETTER AT EXPERIENCE AND BRAND AND OVERALL IMPROVEMENT. GIVEN STUDYING EXTRA YEAR IS NO ISSUE.. TIA
supratim : If its Great Lakes Chennai then go ahead .

chotu : HELLO
supratim : Hi.. Please state your question .

chotu : MY QUESTION IS HOW DO I GET 45 MARKS IN SBI PO EXAMS?
supratim : I think you are talking about Prelims. Please devise strategy for all 3 sections separately . First part of strategy should focus on preparation , second part should be on how to implement that in exam . First part : Please prepare each and every topic for all areas. Second : Write online sectional tests in each area and write full length tests. Learn from mistakes and move on.

chotu : 10 DELEGATES ARE SITTING OPPOSITE EACH OTHER BUT NOT NECESSARILY IN THE SAME ORDER AND THEY BELONG TO A DIFFERENT COUNTRY. HOW DO WE APPROACH THESE QUESTIONS?
krishnakuppachi : This can be considered in two different ways: 1. 5 delegates are sitting in one row and the other 5 are sitting in another row facing them; 2. 10 delegates are sitting around a round table and facing each other. It would depend on additional information given in the question

nida : IN THE SERIES TYPE OF QUESTIONS THE LOGIC IS SOMETIMES QUITE DIFFICULT TO FIND OUT. IS THERE ANY SPECIFIC SET OF LOGIC THAT USUALLY IS FOLLOWED
sashikumar : particularly in prelims ,one question is based on difference of squares or cubes, one will be based on straight difference, one on product and two or three will be given on combination model ..(in general) this is the pattern followed earlier but need not necessarily always

sonu : SIR HOW MANY QUESTIONS WE CAN ABLE TO ATTEMPT OUT OF 100 IN SBI PO TO QUALIFY IN EXAM SECTION WISE
hussain : It is purely based on level of difficulty ( for your information, if paper is difficult it is approx. 40%, moderate 50%)

chotu : IS THERE ANY WAY I CAN SOLVE DI QUESTIONS AT A FASTER RATE?
hussain : Suggestion, memorize the multiplication table upto 20x20 (focus on 13 to 19), Squares up to 50, Cubes up to 30, Powers of 2 upto 12 and 3 upto 8, Percentage values of reciprocals upto 12 and complements of 100. Practice more DI to make yourself confident.( Simultaneously concentrate on approx. calculations )

chotu : ITS 4:00 PM.WHY DOESNT THE CHAT SESSION END?
hussain : Chat session timing 3 to 4:30 pm

chotu : OK.BYE. :)
hussain : All the Best

saloni : WHICH SECTION SHOULD WE START FROM TO CONSUME LESS TIME?
supratim : There is no ideal answer. It depends on your strength . Try all possible combinations in Mock papers before fixing up your strategy .

sonu : THANK U SASHI SIR
sashikumar : welcome sonu

chotu : THANK YOU SIR,FARE THEE WELL. BON NOITE.
hussain : Welcome

chotu : NO QUESTIONS WERE ASKED FROM TOPICS OF CODING -DECODING AND DEDUCTIONS – THIS WOULD HAVE COME AS A SURPRISE TO MANY ASPIRANTS.
hussain : Always be ready for surprise and unpredictable, don't be panic in these type of situations, do well, All the best

abhinandanhj : THANKS FOR THE REPLY
hussain : Welcome

nida : THANK ALOT FOR ALL THE SUGGESTIONS.
hussain : Welcome

sonu : KPK SIR HOW MANY QUESTIONS WE NEED TO ATTEMPT IN REASONING SECTION /35 .ONCE AGAIN THANK U FOR UR VALUABLE SUGGESTIONS
krishnakuppachi : Typically, attempting 21-22 questions is considered a reasonable attempt. But frankly, this would all depend on the difficulty level. You are most welcome. Wish you all the best in the exams to come!

kirti : TIPS FOR LAST MINUTE REVISION?
supratim : Revise all the concepts . Revise all the difficult questions you have come across while preparing . Write online sectional tests and full length Mock tests .

sonu : DAILY HOW MUCH TIME TO SPEND ON PREPARATION FOR SBI PO EXAM FOR ALL SUBJECTS
hussain : If you are not working then suggestion is spend 2 to 3 hours on each test area, ( more focus required on test areas, which you are not comfortable and it has high weight-age

goba1994 : 6TH LETTER FROM THE THIRD RIGHT TO THE SIXTH LEFT OF THE ALPHABETS?
krishnakuppachi : 6th left of the alphabet is F, 3rd right to F is I, but the question further says 6th letter from I, to the left or right, is not mentioned. Hence the answer could be either C or O

goba1994 : I AM STRUGGLING TO QUALIFY FOR THE NEXT ROUND I.E, MAINS
hussain : Prepare schedule and follow it, try only easy and moderate questions (leave difficult) in examination, do not mark wrong answers, accuracy is very important. Don't give your examination based on cutoff requirement, Give your best shot, All the best

goba1994 : I AM SCARED. PLEASE HELP ME.
supratim : Do not be scared . Enjoy the process of learning .None of us know everything . Few of us do work hard to learn from our mistakes. They are called successful in life. You can be one among those successful people. Just believe in yourself and keep on working hard . Its possible. Take help from teachers , learn new concepts. Apply all concept correctly in Mock papers . exam writing will be a cake walk. All the Best.

ms : THANKYOU SIR
krishnakuppachi : All the best!
