IBPS Clerk Main Exam - Preparation Tips and Exam Strategy
(Chat Transcript)

bb : HI
hidayathullah : Hi

prena : SIR HOW MUCH TIME IS REQUIRED FOR REASONING PREPARATION DAILY
hidayathullah : Please focus on all the test areas as there is section wise cut off. In reasoning pls focus on Deductions, Coding - Decoding, Alphabetical order, Symbols Notations, Puzzles, Sequence, Direction Sense, Blood Relations topics

musj6a556 : SIR HOW TO SOLVE PARA JUMBLES.
supratim : Please look for connectives between sentences . Keep chronological order also in mind. Please attend classes for more clarity.

musj6a556 : HI
krishnakuppachi : Hi, please let us know your question

musj6a556 : SINCE THEY ARE ASKING FIND THE ODD ONE OUT IN PARA JUMBLES
supratim : Find out the sentence which does not fit into the sequence.

raj : I GET TENSED IN THE EXAM. MY PREPARATION IS GOOD AND I'M ABLE TO ATTEMPT 60-65% OF THE QUESTIONS WITH A GOOD ACCURACY IN MOCKS, BUT I BECOME TENSE IN THE ACTUAL EXAM. HOW DO I OVERCOME THIS?
supratim : Writing tests regularly and in unfamiliar environment such as class room will help.

musj6a556 : THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IBPS ASKING ODD ONE OUT IN PARAJUMBLES.ITS DIFFICULT TO FIND OUT.HOW TO IDENTIFY
keerthana : The logic is the same. Identify the topical sentence and then look for thematic or idea linkers that lead to the next sentences. Once you are able to arrive at the right order, look for the sentence that is somewhat related to the main topic but not completely. that sentence is the odd one out. this sentence comes tantalizingly close to the rest of the sentences but doesnt fit either because it deviates from the topic or goes off the main theme. select this as your answer. Go through the practice papers.

prena : SIR IN REASONING MORE THAN TWO PARAMETER DISTRIBUTION/RANKING QUESTIONS ARE GIVEN HOW TO SOLVE SUCH TYPE QUESTIONS IN LESS TIME
supratim : Practise more. Find out definite information's and put them in grid first .

raj : I HAVE NOTICED IN THE EARLIER PAPER ANALYSIS THAT THE SECTIONAL CUT-OFF FOR QUANT IS LOWER THAN REASONING GENERALLY. IS IT ADVISABLE TO ATTEMPT MORE IN REASONING SECTION, THAN QUANT, THEN?
hidayathullah : It all depends on the difficulty level of the questions asked. You cannot conclude any such thing. Also,as there is section wise cut off, give equal importance to all the test areas.

john : CAN WE EXPECT ANY CHANGE IN PATTERN IN CLERKS MAINS AS SEEN IN THE IBPS EXAMS CONDUCTED ESPECIALLY RRB OA
supratim : Few question types may be unfamiliar to you at first. But please go through them carefully , those questions may be the easiest to solve .

needa : I NOT STUDENT OF TIME. I CAN ASK QUESION?
khasim : yes

john : CAN WE EXPECT SERIES OR APPROXIMATION QUESTIONS IN MAINS? CONSIDERING IT NOT BEING ASKED IN ANY MAINS TILL NOW..\
thiagarajan : Usually they do ask approximation questions for clerical exams. Last Clerical Main exams had these questions..

needa : I PREPARE OWN. USE RK AGGARWAL BOOKS. IS IT SUFFICIENCY FOR EXAMS? I DO NOT TIME FOR ATTEND CLASSES.
hussain : Yes, You can follow RS AGGARWAL, My best suggestion is kindly go for a test series package OR Correspondence course of TIME

john : IS INPUT OUTPUT BEING ASKED IN CLERK MAINS? OR IS IT JUST CODING DECODING, SYLLOGISM,PUZZLES,MISCELLANEOUS QS AND DS SINGLE QUESTIONS?
sashikumar : The chances of getting input-output types of questions is very minute, but you should not take risk.so get prepared to that as well

john : HOW TO IMPROVE ACCURACY IN ERRORS SECTION AND SENTENCE FILLERS/ ODD SENTENCE OUT ..CONSIDERING I DO LOT OF MISTAKES HERE AND THIS WILL HELP IN MAXIMIZING THE ENGLISH SECTION MARKS
keerthana : The error identification type is purely based on grammar rules. Go through the practice papers and SM. Sentence fillers is also based on grammar. Go for the choice that combines both sentences without a change in meaning. Para odd one out is actually like PFQ. Identify the topical or opening sentence. See what sentences can follow that continue with the same theme. The odd one out is the one that is not exactly related to the main focus or theme of the rest. for example, if 4 sentences talk about student activism on campuses, the odd one out will talk of a present politician who was also a student activist. this sentence is the odd one out, this sentence is vaguely or loosely related to the main theme. go through the practice papers.

phanikiran : LIKE THE OTHER EXAMS, IN THE IBPS CLERICAL EXAM TOO, WILL THE EMPHASIS BE ON PUZZLES? HOW MANY QUESTIONS CAN BE EXPECTED FROM PUZZLES IN THE REASONING SECTION?
krishnakuppachi : In the recent past, the weightage of puzzles has increased. But that does not mean that the other topics like Coding-Decoding, Deductions, etc. are not being asked. The puzzles questions are likely to have 3-4 sets of questions. Around 15-20 questions can appear, depending on the sets being asked. Having said this, prepare the other areas of reasoning topics equally. All the best!

john : IN RRB,JUMBLED PARAGRAPH QUESTIONS WERE OF NEW PATTERN WHERE YOU’D HAVE TO SELECT ODD ONE OUT. FROM WHERE TO PREPARE SUCH QUESTIONS CONSIDERING IT WAS A SURPRISE THIS TIME
keerthana : The iBPS PO practice papers that we have given to students have these question types. This was first asked in the SBI PO 2016 paper. you can look at this paper or get hold of our PO main mocks. The logic is the same. Identify the opening or topical sentence. See what sentences follow it because they continue with the same theme. The odd one out comes close but is not linked with the main idea. It deviates or is completely unrelated to the rest of the sentences.

phanikiran : THANK YOU SIR. PUZZLES ARE DIFFICULT TO ATTEMPT. IT IS TIME-CONSUMING. HOW DO I WORK ON THEM IN THE EXAM?
krishnakuppachi : Don’t pick up puzzles questions at the beginning of reasoning section. First attempt the other easier ones like Deductions, Inequalities-based conclusions, Coding-Decoding, individual questions (like Direction sense, Blood Relations, OMO), Input-output etc. before moving to Puzzles questions.

prena : SIR CAN U SUGGEST ME CORRECT ORDER OF SOLVING PUZZLES IN EXAMINATION
krishnakuppachi : Hi Prena, there is no correct order for solving puzzles. But given the nature of the various puzzles, I can suggest an easier or appropriate order to be followed for keeping up with time and accuracy. The order is as follow – Ranking/Order based questions (floor number wise, etc), Distribution, Linear (Single row), Circular (all facing same direction), Linear (two rows), Circular (different directions), Circular+Blood Relations (at the last)

nitya : WHAT CAN WE EXPECT OF THE LEVEL OF POSTAL BANKS AND PREPARATION TIPS FOR THE SAME
supratim : Write IBPS Clerical & IBPS PO prelim mocks . That will give you a comprehensive view. Please do practise Grammar & Vocub based questions in English section. Calculation based DI , simplification and arithmetic questions for Quant . In reasoning pls focus on Deductions, Coding - Decoding, Alphabetical order, Symbols Notations, Puzzles, Sequence, Direction Sense, Blood Relations topics.

prena : SIR DAILY HOW MUCH TIME NEED TO PREPARE CURRENT AFFAIRS
khasim : its depends on how comfort you are in that area.try to focus at least 3 hr for both ca and banking awareness, cover atleast 6 months ca

nitya : WHAT SHOULD BE THE IDEAL APPROACH OF SELECTING QUESTIONS IN REASONING SECTION IN MAINS TO SOLVE MAXIMUM IN 30 MINS
krishnakuppachi : Deductions, Symbols Notation-based conclusions, Coding-Decoding, Input-Output, Individual questions (OMO, Direction Sense, Blood Relations), Puzzles

john : IS CRITICAL REASONING BEING ASKED IN CLERK MAINS?
hidayathullah : No questions on CR.

musj6a556 : SIR YOU HAVE ANY IDEA REGARDING CUTT OFF MARKS FOR CLERK MAINS FOR GENERAL CATEGORY FOR MAHARASHTRA
hidayathullah : Last year 66.75

nitya : A GOOD SOURCE FOR READING RECENT BANKING AWARENESS?
khasim : you can go through the T.I.M.E. magazine and other magazines available in the market

musj6a556 : ROUGHLY HOW MANY QUESTIONS NEED TO ATTEND IN EACH SECTION IN ORDER TO GET THROUGH THE EXAM
hidayathullah : No such number. Depends on the difficulty level of the paper.

musj6a556 : ROUGHLY HOW MANY QUESTIONS NEED TO ATTEND IN EACH SECTION IN ORDER TO GET THROUGH THE EXAM
hidayathullah : Depends on the difficulty level of the paper.

john : WHAT SHOULD BE THE APPROACH FOR SELCTING QUESTIONS IN QUANTS SECTION TO MAXIMIZE SCORE
hidayathullah : Solve in the following order - Series, Simp/Approx, Individual Quant Questions, DI

nitya : IN PUZZLES, HOW TO KNOW OR SELECT A DOABLE LESS TIME CONSUMING PUZZLE.. USUALLY PEOPLE FACING DIFF DIRECTIONS TAKES TIME
supratim : Number of definite information's will be more in an easy set.

bbsa6a262 : SIR CAN WE SOLVE DEDUCTIONS WITHOUT VENN DIAGRAMS
krishnakuppachi : Yes, there are other methods to solving deductions, but they can be used in limited scenarios. Using venn diagrams, any question in deductions can be solved. Hence, the preference to use Venn Diagrams in Deductions

prena : THANK YOU SO MUCH KRISHNA SIR CLARIFYING MY DOUBTS REGARDING PUZZELS
krishnakuppachi : You are welcome. All the best for your exams!

nitya : WILL THE MAIN RESULTS COME IN JANUARY FOR IBPS CLERKS. OR IT COMES DIRECTLY WITH FINAL SELECTION IN APRIL
hidayathullah : Depends on Participating organizations and IBPS

nitya : HOW TO APPROACH QS WITH PIPES CISTERNS AND MIXTURES ALLEGATIONS. ANY EASIER
hussain : Pipes and Cisterns are similar to TIME & WORK (80 to 90 % )and suggested method is LCM, Mixtures & Alligations easier method is Alligation Method ( without formula ) Mixing given varieties, In Mixtures & Alligations read question carefully, when you understand question, you can easily answer

john : A HUGE NUMBER OF PUZZLES SETS WERE SEEN THIS YR IN RRBS. WHAT CAN BE DONE TO SOLVE A MAXIMUM NO OF SETS..AND THE CUTOFF FOR REASONING SECTION WAS ALOS LOW IN PO MAINS..
krishnakuppachi : Please read the chat history. I have earlier mentioned the order of puzzles that will help in saving time and improving accuracy. When solving Puzzles questions, read the conditions given in the puzzles and identify definitive conditions. They directly fit into the arrangement / distribution. Fill them first. Then re-read the conditions which are not definitive, in line with the part puzzle, already worked out. Then pick up non-definitive conditions which offer you exactly two options, and draw two puzzles (based on each of these options) and then read the pending conditions which fit either of them. The crux of solving puzzles is a lot of practice. You need to put in more efforts in working on these points while practicing the questions. Hope this tip is helpful in your practice.

nitya : SIR WITH 10 DAYS LEFT ,.. WHAT SHOULD BE THE IDEAL STRATEGY TO CLEAR THIS EXAM WITH HIGH SOCRE AND ACCURACY
hidayathullah : Donot read anything new. Revise whatever you have studied. Give 1 mock test each day for the next 4 to 5 days. Analyse the paper after the test. Keep yourself cool. All the best.

john : SIR AS TIME IS TAKEN CARE FOR IN MAINS WITH SECTIOANAL TIMING, WHAT MUST BE THE TOPIC MANAGEMENT FOR EACH SECTION IN A OVERALL SCENARIO
hidayathullah : The order for Quant and Reasoning is already given earlier. Pls check. For English follow the order - Cloze passage, RC, Grammar, FIB, PFQs

nitya : SIR I AM GIVING KARUR BANKS CLERK POST, HOW DO U RATE THE EXAM OR THE BANK.PLZ ADVICE
hidayathullah : The exam is in line with the IBPS Clerk exam. You may go ahead and write the exam.

musj6a556 : SINCE CODING AND DECODING ASKED IN IBPS MAINS WAS DIFFERENT.SAME THEY WILL ASK IN CLERK?IF THEY ASK LIKE IBPS PO HOW TO SOLVE THOSE KIND OF CODE LANGUAGE WHERE SHALL I REFER?
krishnakuppachi : There is a possibility to ask again. The same pattern is available online. But, keep the practice on all the topics and not just on the new patterns. Good luck

nitya : ANY OTHER BANKING EXAMS I MUST APPLY TO? NOT THOSE WHICH OFFERS COURSES
hidayathullah : Query not clear. What you mean by courses?

nitya : THERE ARE FEW BANKS WHICH OFFER BANKING MBA COURSES ALONG WITH A JOB GURANTEE ... I AM ASKING FOR ANY OTHER EXAMS IN LINE NOT RELATED TO SUCH
hidayathullah : Generally such courses will be for PO. For clerk you may look at IBPS Clerk, SBI Clerk, RBI Assistants, Insurance companies Assistants etc..

john : THANK YOU ALL. HOPE CLERK MAINS IS A SUCCESS. REALLY APPRECIATE THE HELP HERE!
hussain : Welcome, All the best
