(Chat Transcript)

piyush_singh : SIR, WHICH ORDER TO FOLLOW WHILE DOING QUESTIONS IN REASONING AND ENGLISH?
krishnakuppachi : Hi Piyush, while working on reasoning, start with input-output, then deductions, inequalities based conclusions, coding-decoding, individual questions (DS, Blood Rel, etc), puzzles and finally critical reasoning

chinki : CAN U GIVE SOME SUGGESTIONS RELATED TO ESSAY N LETTER WRITING
sumita : What kind of suggestions? Please specify.

irfu : SIR WHAT TYPE OF QUESTIONS IS EXPECTED IN DATA -INTERPRETATION AND COMPUTER APTITUDE PART AND HOW CAN I SCORE WELL THERE WITH A GOOD STRATEGY?
hidayathullah : Data Interpretation - You can expect about 20+ questions. Please focus on Tables (Missing Data), Pie Combos, Bar and Line graphs. Please avoid solving CASELET in the exam as it is time consuming. Last year there were no questions on Computer Knowledge. This year you can expect about 5 to 10 questions from Computers. Please focus on Computer fundementals, Architecture, Operating Systems, Network and MS Office

piyush_singh : SHOULD WE DO BOTH THE RC PASSAGE IN THE BEGINNING ?
sumita : RC passages are time-consuming. It is better to attempt the easier and less lengthy questions first before moving on to the tougher and longer ones.

neha : WHAT SHOULD BE THE TARGET SCORE FOR THE EXAM?
hidayathullah : Do not go to exam with any pre fixed target in mind. The cut offs depend on no. of test takers and difficulty level of the exam. Prepare in all aspects and try to maximize your score. All the best!!

kxsj7a176 : SIR I FOUND DIFFICULTY IN QUANTITATIVE ABILITY WHAT SHOULD I DO
hidayathullah : Dear Student, Please practice the SBI PO Main mock tests. 20+ questions appear from Data Interpretation. With effort and practice, these questions are doable. Also, please do not neglect individual questions from Arithmetic topics, questions on Series, Data Comparison and Data Sufficiency. Every week write 2 to 3 mocks and do a thorough analysis of the papers.

bhsa7a6430 : SIR ANY TIPS TO MAXIMIZE SCORE IN REASONING SECTION ESPECIALLY PUZZLES?
krishnakuppachi : While solving puzzles, pick up the ranking/distribution questions first and then move to linear/circular arrangement of facing same direction and then move to two-row arrangement, circular two different sides facing, and finally arrangement+blood relations.

piyush_singh : HOW MANY PUZZLES WE SHOULD ATTEMPT AND IN WHAT ORDER??
krishnakuppachi : Hi Piyush, I have addressed the order in another question. Please read them. As regards how many, given the increased weightage, you might have to work on atleast 2 puzzles, if you can get the individual / job-puzzles questions correct. Else, might have to pick up even 3 sets

sonu : SIR IAM HAVING DOUBT IN DEDUCTIONS THAT IS STATEMENT:SOME WORDS ARE PAPERS , ALL LETTERS ARE WORDS ,NO PAPER IS A VOWEL CONCLUSIONS:ATLEAST SOME LETTERS ARE PAPERS ,ATLEAST SOME LETTERS ARE NOT PAPERS IN THIS CASE EITHER CASE EXITS OR NOT
krishnakuppachi : Hi Sona, Either..Or case in deductions exits on only 2 situations - (I) If one conclusion is "No A is a B" and another conclusion is it's opposite I.e., "Some As are Bs/Some Bs are As"; (II) "If one conclusion is "Some As are not B" and another conclusion is it's opposite I.e., "All As are Bs". If the conclusions are in any other combination, then the Either.. or will never work. However, just bcos the above opposite conclusions are given, it does not automatically become either or... the negative conclusion should be true in basic diagram and false in alternate; and the vice versa for the opposite conclusion

roxen1808 : CAN U PLZ TELL HOW TO MINIMIZE STEPS IN SOLVING QUADRATIC EQUATION
hidayathullah : Dont use formula. Use factorization method. Multiply constant term and x^2 term. Write that as product of two numbers such that the sum or difference is equal to middle term. Interchange the signs to get the roots.

bhsa7a6430 : SIR HOW MANY ATTEMPTS WILL BE SUFFICIENT TO SCORE WELL IN MAIN EXAM WITH HIGH ACCURACY?
hidayathullah : Do not go to exam with any pre fixed target in mind. The cut offs depend on no. of test takers and difficulty level of the exam. Prepare in all aspects and try to maximize your score. All the best!!

piyush_singh : ANY TIPS TO SOLVE FILL IN THE PASSAGE QUESTIONS??
sumita : Quickly read the passage first to get an idea of the topic and other necessary details, while mentally marking off areas you feel are amenable for drawing questions from. Then go to any one question and read the options too. Then try to connect it with the idea(s) you have just read in the passage. Follow this procedure till you are done answering. Vocab questions are much easier so try solving them first before moving on to detail-based questions. The ones on tones and inferences must be attempted last.

hidayathullah : Can you pls elaborate your query

roxen1808 : THANX
hidayathullah : Welcome

sonu : AGE BASED PUZZLES IS GOOD TO ATTEMPT IN EXAM OR TO QUIT
krishnakuppachi : You can attempt. Keep in mind when you do age questions, keep the age as constant and distribute the people

irfu : SIR HOW TO APPROACH THE READING COMPREHENSION PASSAGE IN THE EXAM FIRST GO THROUGH THE PASSAGE OR FIRST READ THE QUESTIONS AND ALSO HOW TO APPROACH THE NEW PATTERN PARAJUMBLES I.E THE ODD SENTENCE.
sumita : See, if you read the questions first, you get influenced by what you have read and chances are that you may only read the passage truying to look for the answer to this question. This will result in wastage of time,as each time you would need to read the entire length of the passage. Therefore, first skim the passage quickly, to get an idea of the theme and content. Then try one question at a time. You would know which part of the passage supports the choice you think is correct, or lead you to the answer itself. scan that part to confirm. This is a better approach than putting the carriage before the horse! The odd man questions work in a fashion similar to that of the para jumbles ones. You will need to sequence the jumbles sentences and while doing so, you'll strike that sentence that is digressive in nature or is unrelated. This misfit is your accurate choice for the odd man question type.

hwsc7a291 : HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE DATA INTERPRETATION SECTION FOR SBI PO
hidayathullah : Please write two to three practice mock tests and do thorough analysis of the paper. You can expect about 20+ questions. Please focus on Tables (Missing Data), Pie Combos, Bar and Line graphs. Please avoid solving CASELET in the exam as it is time consuming.

All the best!!

sonu : KPK SIR CAN U SUGGEST ANY AUTHOR BOOK FOR PUZZELS
krishnakuppachi : I would prefer if you work with TIME material. In case of extra practice, you can work out RS Aggarwal

piyush_singh : ANY TRICK TO SOLVE NEW PATTERN CODING DECODING? LIKE THOSE ASKED LAST YEAR IN SBI MAINS AND IBPS MAINS
krishnakuppachi : Familiarity with letter values is critical. You could correlate letter values, prime numbers, even, odd numbers, vowel/consonants letter values. These will help in finding out the logic easily

limon : SIR, CAN YOU SUGGEST ANY FOR LOGICAL REASONING?
krishnakuppachi : TIME material, and if required more (RS Aggarwal)

hwsc7a291 : WHAT IS CASELET THAT HIDAYATHULLAH SIR TOLD TO AVOID IN,DATA INTERPRETATION ?
hidayathullah : Data given in verbal sentences and you have to capture the data in the form of table / Venn diagram. Please avoid these questions as they are time consuming.

limon : SIR, CAN YOU SUGGEST ANY BOOK FOR LOGICAL REASONING?
hidayathullah : TIME material and mock tests. If you are not a TIME student, you may refer the following books. 1) Verbal and Non Verbal Reasoning - R S Agarwal / B S Sijwali / M K Pandey

hwsc7a291 : WHAT IS CASELET THAT HIDAYATHULLAH SIR TOLD TP AVOID IN,DATA INTERPRETATION ?
hidayathullah : CASELET means data will be given in verbal paragraph and you need to capture the data in the form of table or Venn Diagram. Please avoid this in the examination as it is time consuming.

sonu : FOR DESCRIPTIVE TEST FIRST WHICH TOPIC SHOULD BE SELECTED LETTER WRITING / ESSAY.
sumita : It all depends on your level of comfort with that particular writing, the topic you have chosen to write on, and your practice. Technically, an essay is definitely more time-taking, while a letter can be finished off earlier. but it all depends on all factors I've cited above.

piyush_singh : ANY TIPS TO SOLVE SYLLOGS QUESTIONS QUICKLY, IN WHICH THEY ASK STATEMENT AND GIVE CONCLUSIONS?
krishnakuppachi : Understanding what comes in basic diagram is very critical. If you have mastered this, then the questions become easy, from statement to conclusion or from conclusions to statements. Also, when the statement are all affirmative (all , some) and the conclusion is negative (no, some not), these conclusions never follow.

kolkata : NOT ABLE TO QAULIFY THE TOTAL CUT OFF MARKS IN BANK PRELIMS EXAMS..WHAT TO DO?
hidayathullah : Please give your section wise marks to understand which is your weak area?

b : PLZ SUGGEST BOOKS FOR BANKING AWARENESS
thiagarajan : Banking and Financial awareness by Kiran Prakashan. Banking terminologies book will be available to you in your student home page if you are a time student. You can also refer online websites like investopedia. Monthly magazines and monthly current affairs section will also have banking awareness contents.

bhsa7a6430 : WHAT WERE THE NEW PATTERN QUESTIONS IN ENGLISH SECTION LAST YEAR AND HOW TO APPROACH THEM?
sumita : New question types included sentence starters, para odd man out, and para completion questions, though the last one has already been asked once in IBPS PO. The approach for Para odd man out is similar to the one in para jumbles; questions on sentence starters are based on grammatical concepts, essentially conjunctions, so you need to brush up your skills in that area. Para completion questions are logic based and need good verbal reasoning skills. Try to look for a sentence that completes the idea and not furthers it, and is related to the topic the first sentence has broached.

piyush_singh : HOW TO PICK CORRECT INFERENCE ?
sumita : First you need to keep the meaning of the term 'inference' in mind. It means arriving at that conclusion which, though not logically derivable from the assumed premises, possesses some degree of probability relative to the premises. So there is little chance of you finding either a sentence or an idea in the passage that you can draw support from or pick. You need to draw it yourself after interpreting the text deeply and accurately, and then pick the most suitable choice that corresponds to your thought.

victoriya : HOW MANY MONTH IS SUFFICIENT FOR PREPARATION ?
hidayathullah : About 5 to 6 months to clear both Prelim and Main examinations.

bhsa7a6430 : SIR, HOW TO APPROACH COMPARISON QUESTION FOR QUADRATIC EQUATION NEW TYPE LAST YEAR QUANTITY 1 > QUANTITY 2?
hidayathullah : These are called Data Comparison questions. You need to establish a relation between the two quantities/columns given. The questions will be based on basic concepts on individual topics like PPL/TW/TD/Mensuration etc.. To answer these questions, the basic fundamental of Arithmetic topics should be clear. Practice questions from your mock test.

kxsj7a176 : WHEN WILL BE SBI PO EXAM?
hidayathullah : Main exam on 4th June 2017

sonu : SIR HOW MANY QUESTIONS WE EXCEPT FROM COMPUTERS IN BOB PO PGDF EXAM
thiagarajan : The exam pattern is quants-50 reasoning-50 English - 50 and GA-50. 2 descriptive writing questions. In GA sometimes they can ask Computer related question. Max (5-10)

piyush_singh : ANY TIPS TO FIND OUT STRONG OR WEAK ARGUMENT? I KNOW THE BASIC
krishnakuppachi : If you are good at basics, then the only suggestion I say is to be the judge of a debate competition. Read the arguments from a neutral point of view, and not from our personal point, and based on yes/no, reason out whether the given reasons are strong or not. Another way to look at it, understand what the examiner tells by yes or by now and then read the reason, (without reading the reason directly).

piyush_singh : ANY TIPS TO SELECT THE MAIN IDEA OF THE PASSAGE?
sumita : The main idea of any passage runs through the entire body of the passage and is easy to catch. It states the purpose and sets the direction of the passage. It may be stated or implied. If it is stated, you will find it in the very first sentence of the passage, though it is not restricted to that and can occur anywhere. When it is implied, you'll need to read between the lines to grasp it.

taniya : KINDLY TELL WHAT SHOULD BE THE SEQUENCE OF SUBJECT TO BE ATTEMPT IN SBI PO EXAM ?
hidayathullah : Dear Student, in Main exam each section is separately timed. You need to solve in the order given in the exam and you do not have liberty of choosing a section.

hwsc7a291 : WHAT CAN BE SECTIONAL CUT OFF AS WELL AS OVERALL CUT OFF IN SBI PO MAINS 2017
hidayathullah : Do not go to exam with any pre fixed target in mind. The cut offs depend on no. of test takers and difficulty level of the exam. Prepare in all aspects and try to maximize your score. All the best!!

saurabh : WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO GET 30+ IN GA SECTION
hidayathullah : 1. Newspapers: THE HINDU/TOI 2. Any one monthly magazine of current affairs Stock questions – Definitions, Abbreviations from topics of Indian Economy & Banking 5. Please download TIME Bank APP. You will find Daily GA Updates, Monthly GA PPTs and weekly GK Quiz

kolkata : IN PUZZLES THE TYPE WHERE FLOOR ARRANGEMENT OR CIRCULAR SEATING ARRANGEMENT IS MIXED WITH BLOOD RELATIONS OR LIKES AND DISLIKES OF PERSONS ARE VERY CONFUSING AND DIFFICULT TO DO.. DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO TAKE AS CONSTANT FIRST AND DISTRIBUTE THE REST WITH RESPECT TO THIS...
krishnakuppachi : In a floor arrangement, the floor numbers to be constant. For circular or linear arrangement, definitive condition to start with. Ideally, arrangement+BR should not be attempted. It takes a lot of time and chances of errors are higher. In case of other distribution, anything that is based on order (like age, days, months, years) should be taken as constant and other parameters become distributable ones.

roxen1808 : SIR I GOT 34 MARKS IN SBI PRELIMS ENG

hidayathullah : Notification likely to be in the month of Feb / March 2018.

piyush_singh : HOW TO DO MISSING DI QUESTIONS FASTER? IT TAKES A LOT OF TIME TO WRITE WHOLE TABLE ON PAPER AND FILL IT.
hidayathullah : Please do not write the whole table on paper. There is no universal way to fill in all the missing data. Find the missing data, if it is required to answer the question based on the info provided in the question. The missing data you got in one question cannot be used for other questions.

kolkata : HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD I DEVOTE TO EACH OF THE SECTIONS EVERYDAY INCLUDING CA??DO I NEED TO GIVE MOCK TEST EVERYDAY?
hidayathullah : Please take mock test every alternate day and do the thorough analysis of the mock test after the exam. Please spend more time in the section where you are not comfortable/up to the mark.

sonu : DAILY HOW MUCH TIME WE NEED TO SPEND ON SUBJECT WISE TO CLEAR BANK EXAM
krishnakuppachi : Hi Sonu, since all the topics have their cut-offs, you need to practice all areas equally. Spend about 2 hrs on each of the areas individually and then practice one mock test every alternate day.

hwsc7a291 : HOW CAN I SOLVE THE FILL THE BLANKS AND SYNONYMS AND ANTONYNM PART OF,ENGLISH SECTION
sumita : FIBs are relatively easier to work out. Read the statement carefully and first, try to fill the missing word without looking at the options. Choose the word from the options that best replaces the word that you had initially thought of. Now read the sentence by replacing the blank with the option that you have chosen. Direct vocab questions are tough to answer. You need to have familiarity with words and also know all their meanings. For this, it is essential that you read a lot and pick up words in context. Then look up their meanings and apply them to the context in which you have read them. This is an uphill task but it will help you gain a better understanding of words and this in turn will equip you to answer these questions accurately.

saurabh : WHAT WILL COME IN REASONING IN SBI PO MAINS AND WHAT ARE THE BEST WAY TO APPROACH THEM IN LESS TIME
krishnakuppachi : Hi Saurabh, that's a very difficult question to answer as to what will come on the mains. Better approach however is to be able to identify easy questions first and then move to difficult ones. Scan the paper/section first and then pick up questions in the order of your ease.

priyanka : HOW LONG SHOULD BE THE ESSAY AND THE LETTER
sumita : Keep the subject in mind when writing the letter. There will definitely be a time limit as well as a word limit, so don’t wander off from the topic and fill in unnecessary details that may eat up into your time.

b : BEST BOOKS FOR COMPUETER SCIENCE AND TO PRACTICE DI FOR MATHS?
hidayathullah : Computer Knowledge - Kiran Publications Data Interpretation - Dhillon Publications Please refer to previous year papers of Kiran Publications also

bhsa7a6430 : WHAT WERE THE NEW PATTERN QUESTIONS IN QUANT SECTION AND SUGGESTED APPROACH LAST YEAR MAINS?
hidayathullah : Data Comparison questions - You need to establish a relation between the two quantities/columns given. The questions will be based on basic concepts on individual topics like PPL/TW/TD/Mensuration etc.. To answer these questions, the basic fundamental of Arithmetic topics should be clear. Practice questions from your mock tests.

piyush_singh : YOU SAID DO INPOUT OUTPUT UPFRONT, BUT IT TAKES A LOT OF TIME. ANY SUGGESTION TO IMPROVE THAT ??
krishnakuppachi : Usually, for input-output, start with seeing the output (last step) and then retrace the changes step-wise from input. That way you can correlate the logic better

kolkata : WHEN WILL SBI CLERK 2017
