IIT Madras is located in the city of
Chennai in Tamil Nadu within an area of 620acres. IITM was born out of the
first Indo-German agreement and was formally inaugurated in 1959 with technical
assistance for the establishment from German government.
IITM has a goal for each IITians to be an agent of change of Technology,
initiate a new working culture in industry, with a view to increase
productivity and bring to industry the capacity to innovate, become
entrepreneurs themselves for starting new science based, technology oriented
industries, cultivate a sense of responsibility to their soceity and a desire
to serve for the country.
