GWPI Process at B-Schools

The process comprised:

  • Written Ability Test (Essay)
  • Group Discussion
  • Personal Interview

Written Ability Test (Essay)

  • Duration: 20 minutes

Sample Topics

  • You will face your greatest opposition when you are closer to your greatest miracle.
  • Flipkart and Snapdeal merger – A new dimension in Indian e-commerce.
  • Don't get intimidated by anything you don’t know. Use it as your strength and think differently.
  • Leaders who refuse to listen will eventually be surrounded by people who say nothing.
  • India's preparedness against cyberattacks.

Group Discussion

  • Type: Topic-based
  • Number of candidates: 10–12
  • Duration: Around 5 minutes for generating ideas, followed by 1 minute for each candidate to make their preliminary points and then GD happened for around 15–20 minutes. At the end, 1–2 students were asked to summarize.

Sample Topics

  • Is India’s demographic dividend underutilized?
  • Mirror mirror on the wall, my Instagram is the fairest among all – Social Media versus Real Life.
  • Pink.
  • Is India becoming a hub for refugees?
  • The world is a dangerous place to live not because of the evil people in it but because of the people who don't do “anything” about it.

Personal Interview

  • Duration: 15 to 20 minutes
  • Number of panelists: 2 to 4

Written Ability Test

  • Duration: 10 minutes
  • Note: Students were given a dense passage (article) to read and then summarize the passage in about 100 words (in some cases students were given different word limit also) in the given time. They were also asked to mention 5–6 key words that best describe the given writeup.

Group Exercise

  • Type: Case Study
  • Number of candidates: 7–10
  • Duration- Around 5 minutes reading the case and around 15 minutes for discussion.

Sample Case Study

  • An automobile company, renowned for making very good vehicles targeting middle class customers, wants to reposition itself into luxury segment overcoming its earlier image. Students were asked to come up with a strategy to do so.
  • Note: One unique aspect about the process was that students were provided with charts and sketch pens, which they could use for idea generation and use to explain their solution for the problem being faced.

Personal Interview

  • Duration: 15 to 20 minutes
  • Number of panelists: 2 to 4
  • Note: As part of the PI, extempore was also conducted. Students were given a word and they were expected to write five sentences using this word in 2 minutes. The words being given had “negative meanings”, they were asked to write sentences which conveyed positivity. Once done they were asked to read the sentences to the panel.
