JEE ADVANCED
Getting that coveted IIT seat seems to have gotten tougher from the year 2013. Till 2012, candidates had the choice to appear for either one or both entrance exams - AIEEE(to get into NITs/IIITs) and /or IIT JEE(to get admissions in IITs and ISM,Dhanbad). Around eleven lakh candidates had appeared for AIEEE 2012 for approximately 25,000 seats and 5+ lakh students for IIT JEE 2012 for approximately 10,000 seats.
From 2013, candidates donot have the option of appearing for one of the two exams. MHRD and the IIT/NIT council have arrived at a new format for the AIEEE and IIT JEE exams. The exam is rechristened as Joint Entrance Examination (JEE)
Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is the all India entrance examination conducted for the admissions into the Engineering courses. From 2013,under the direction of MHRD, Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is being conducted in two parts,JEE-MAIN and JEE-ADVANCED . JEE MAIN is for the admission into NITs,IIITs and possibly CFTIs and other participating institutes. JEE ADVANCED is for the admission into IITs only.
The top 1.5 lakh candidates of JEE MAIN from all categories will be eligible to attempt JEE ADVANCED.
Admissions to IITs will be based only on category-wise All India Rank (AIR) in JEE ADVANCED, subject to condition that such candidates are in the top 20 percentile (category wise) in their respective Boards/Qualifying Examinations.
JEE-Advanced - Offline Exam - 2nd June 2013. There will not be any online exam for JEE ADVANCED.
