sovan : HY
amitpoddar : Hi....Please ask your question

anu : HOW TO IMPROVE RC ON DAILY BASIS?
darshanamishra : Read everyday, Practise CR, RC from SM and take sectional tests on RC

sovan : WHAT KIND OF TOPICS MOSTLY COME FROM RC
darshanamishra : It could be across subject areas that have been uploaded in form of RC links on your SHP. Please go through those links

harsh : SHOULD I READ AEON ESSAYS, HIGH SCHOOL ENGLISH WREN AND MARTIN, OBJECTIVE GENERAL ENGLISH BY SP BAKSHI AND WHAT BOOKS WILL YOU RECOMMEND TO IMPROVE RC?
lakshmymenon : Aeon Essays is good, but the passages are lengthy. You can take excerpts of about 500 words and read it with a timer set at 200-250 wpm. Arts & Letters Daily also has 'CAT-type' passages. Any newspaper editorial and online resources such as National Geographic, BBC etc. will give you passages on various subjects. For grammar, T.I.M.E Grammar book (Study Material) will do. For vocab, you can get Word Power Made Easy by Norman Lewis -you can check out the free PDF version first.

abcdefgh : GOOD EVENING. I NOTICED AFTER THE AIMCAT, THERE WERE CERTAIN REMARKS GIVEN AGAINST EACH QUESTION, INDICATING THE DIFFICULTY LEVEL AND SUGGESTS THAT I COULD HAVE ANSWERED IT SINCE IT WAS A RELATIVELY EASY QUESTION, WHICH I SEEM TO HAVE MISSED. SO MY QUESTION IS, WITHIN THE 40 MINUTES, HOW DO I ENSURE THAT I PICK THE RIGHT QUESTIONS, AND HOW DO I GO ABOUT SELECTING QUESTIONS INTELLIGENTLY?
amitpoddar : The choices you make in the AIMCAT depends largely on the practise you do from the booklets and sectional tests. Based on your comfort level and strong areas you can easily make the right choices during the AIMCAts,be it selecting the right passage or the right LR set or the doable QA questions.

abhay : IS READING EDITORIALS AND BOOKS THE ONLY WAY IN IMPROVING SPEED OF COMPREHENSIVE READING?
darshanamishra : These along with other kind of materials such as RC links and aeon essays also help. There are passages given for you to read upon in your RC SM also

harsh : IS READING THE HINDU SUFFICIENT OR SHOULD I READ ANY OTHER NEWSPAPERS AS WELL?
darshanamishra : You could also read the indian express

pavitra : HELLO, HOW DO YOU TACKLE LOGICAL ORDER OF SENTENCES FOR PARA COMPLETION WHEN BOTH THE SENTENCES LOOK APPROPRIATE FOR LETS SAY SENTENCE2 WHEN WE HAVE 5 SENTENCES.
darshanamishra : Look for the most generic sentence to start with. make use of links discussed in class.

pavitra : FOR CIRCLE ARRANGEMENTS, WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO GO ABOUT WHEN DIRECTION ARE GIVEN?
abhishek : Circular arrangment like any other LR topic is a puzzle. You get better at solving puzzles by doing more and more of it. So that's the trick.

anu : HOW MANY SETS OF LRDI SHOULD WE SOLVE ON DAILY BASIS?
amitpoddar : At least 4-5 sets. Have a weekly plan in terms of chapter completion.

shalin : HOW TO IMPROVE THE QUANT PART?
amitpoddar : After attending a class, do a follow up by solving the SM booklets. Start from the basics and then move to difficult questions topic wise.

harsh : HOW TO SOLVE PARAJUMBLES IF THERE IS CONFUSION IN ORDER OF 2 SENTENCES?
amitpoddar : Look at the contextual and the grammatical continuation while making the mandatory pairs.Look for words that are thought extenders(moreover,in addition to,etc.) ,thought reversers(yet, but, however, etc.), Noun-pronoun connection, etc.

abcdefgh : WOULD THE INBUILT CALCULATOR WITHIN THE AIMCATS BE THERE IN THE FINAL CAT EXAM, IN THE SAME WAY?
amitpoddar : Yeah,most likely.

gargi : WHERE SHOULD WE READ FROM FOR VA RC ? AND HOW TO IMPROVE VOCABULARY?
philipthomas : For RC, start by summarising the passages given in exercise 1 of your SM. For vocab, utilise the classroom hand outs

gargi : IS IT NECESSARY TO SOLVE QUESTIONS TOPIC WISE FOR LR AND WHAT KIND OF QUESTIONS SHOULD BE SOLVED TO IMPROVE LR IN SUCH SHORT DURATION OF TIME?
abhishek : Topic wise solving could be done, however, not necessary. If you are starting your pro, then basic questions from the booklet will be helpful.

jovita : I'M JUST GOING TO START READING NEWSPAPERS. IS IT TOO LATE, AND WHAT NEWSPAPER WOULD YOU SUGGEST TO START WITH?
gayathri : It is not too late. Better late than never. The Hindu. Reading the editorial page is inevitable.

abcdefgh : WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO APPROACH GRAMMAR, AND HOW MUCH IMPORTANCE SHOULD I GIVE IT IN TERMS OF TIME SPENT IN MEMORISING ALL THE RULES FROM THE MATERIAL?
darshanamishra : Attend classroom sessions. Solve questions from SM. There is a book V202 which could be followed for understanding rules. And overall comprehension of grammatical construction of sentences can be understood better by reading daily

harsh : IS IT BETTER TO STICK TO TIME MATERIAL ONLY WHILE PREPARING OR CAN I USE OTHER RESOURCES AS WELL?
amitpoddar : Pls stick to the SM booklets, handouts, three levels of sectional tests, AIMCATs and AIMCAT-SA (Self administered AIMCATs).Attend regular classes and take doubt classes.

thaara : IN LR QUESTION LIKE,WANT TO FIND OUT BLOOD RELATION AS WELL AS SEATING ARRANGEMENT IS SO CONFUSING , SO MANY ATTEMPTS I TRIED, BUT THE ANSWER IS NOT COME, WHAT CAN I DO FOR DIFFICULTY QUESTION.
abhishek : Get a doubt session with the faculty.

thaara : HOW TO GET GOOD MARKS IN RC
darshanamishra : Practise makes perfect. Read across subject areas daily. Practise solving RC passages from SM. Practise CR from SM. Take sectionals and full length mocks regularly. Reach out to your FMs in case of doubts in any of these sources.

thaara : IN LR SO MANY DIFFICULTY QUESTIONS ARE SO CONFUSING WHATS THE BEST WAY TO GET EASILY ANSWER
abhishek : There is no best way you can learn. You need to practice large number of sets to be able to solve the sets conveniently.

thaara : IN VOCAB SO MANY WORDS ARE I DONT KNOW, WHATS THE MATERIAL DO U SUGGEST ME TO LEARN VOCAB WORDS
darshanamishra : Read daily, that will improve both your vocab and your grammar

prajwal : HOW TO PRACTISE QUANTS FROM BASICS BEING FROM NON MATHS BACKGROUND
abhishek : Start with arithmetic section. That will be easier for non math students.

s : HOW TO BE CONSISTENT IN PREPARATIONS ESPECIALLY FOR DILR AND QUANTS . FOR SOME DAYS I STUDY FOR MORE THAN THREE HOURS AT A STRETCH BUT ON SOME DAYS I FEEL FULL AND I AM UNABLE TO STUDY .
abhishek : In car you do not feel like doing LR on any day, or suggestion would be to avoid it. As LR and DI cannot be done without proper concentration. You can set weekly average for number of sets to be done from LR.

gul : IS TIME EXERCISE AND HANDOUT IS ENOUGH FOR LRDI ? AND HOW MANY I HAVE TO ATTEND OUT OF 22 IN LRDI
abhishek : Yes. We give basic Handouts/booklets. We also give advanced booklets and Handouts. AIMCATs and AIMCAT SA also Provide with good sources of sets.

pavitra : HOW MANY QUESTIONS DO WE ATTEMPT "ACCURATELY" IN ORDER TO GET 99 PERCENTILE IN THE RC/VA SECTION?
lakshmymenon : In any section, the 99th percentile mark is around 50-55 percentile, though of course this is relative.

pavitra : HOW MANY QUESTIONS DO WE ATTEMPT "ACCURATELY" IN ORDER TO GET 99 PERCENTILE IN THE LR SECTION?
abhishek : Difficult to answer. Generally half the paper is sufficient.

s : HOW TO STAY MOTIVATED WHEN I AM UNABLE TO SOLVE QUESTIONS ON MY OWN ..
lakshmymenon : Just keep practising - everyone struggles with some area or the other in the beginning! Take sectional and mock tests and analyse your mistakes thoroughly. Go through the explanations of the questions and see if there were any questions you could have answered. Start thinking of strategies that work best for you. With consistent practice, you will definitely get better.

jmca5a004 : ARE WE SUPPOSED TO SOLVE BOTH THE EXERCISES OF EACH CHAPTER FROM OUR STUDY MATERIAL ?
abhishek : Yes.

thaara : WHAT NEWSPAPER CAN I READ ON DAILY BASIS WHICH WILL HELPFULL FOR RC\VA
gayathri : You may read The Hindu or The Indian Express. The editorial page is a must read. you can also read online resources like BBC, Aeon essays, National Geographic etc.

pavitra : HOW DO WE STRATEGIZE PRACTICE? BASED ON NUMBER OF HOURS PER DAY, SETS PER DAY OR CHAPTERS PER DAY? IT GETS VERY OVERWHELMING SOMETIMES AND THE RHYTHM KEEPS BREAKING
abhishek : Have a weekly Target, if one is unable to manage daily targets. That way, if you are unable to work on a particular day, work more on the other day. The work distribution could be by number of questions/sets or number of hours. It is upto the candidate.

sj : WHAT ARE THE IMPACTS OF GETTING A TITA QUESTION WRONG
abhishek : No impact.

s : WHAT IS THE MINIMUM NUMBER OF HOURS REQUIRED FOR CAT PREPARATION?
darshanamishra : As much as you can manage without compromising on quality of preparation. Try to push yourself eventually to do more as you approach the d-day.

thaara : FOR AN AVERAGE STUDENT HOW MANY HOURS IS ENOUGH TO GET PREPAPRED WELL
amitpoddar : Around 5-6 hrs of productive studies apart from attending the classes. In addition to the SM booklets, you need to solve the sectional tests as well.

tanishk : SIR. I’M HAVING DIFFICULTY IN UNDERSTANDING THE COMPLETE READING COMPREHENSION PASSAGE. PLEASE HELP ME SIR.
amitpoddar : Focus on the key points given in the passage and make short notes while reading every para. Try to get the overall summary. Focus on the demand of the questions and supply the best option among the given choices. Read and practise regularly.
