Chat on preparation tips for QA/DI & LR!
(Chat Transcript)

nancy : SIR,
rajeshsaraf : yes !! whats your query

error : SIR THIS YEAR WHAT IS THE TENTATIVE DATE FOR CAT EXAM OCT OR NOV???
rajeshsaraf : No such official confirmation on the same. May be yet again Nov

chinu : SIR, CAN YOU PLEASE SHARE SOME TIPS FOR SOLVING DI-LR QUESTIONS..
anujkhanna : The most important step in solving a problem is to “study” the problem statement - NOT read it , NOT skim through it, but study it thoroughly LR sets, note down the different models of problems that you come across during the course of your preparation in a separate book. Also note the trick to solve those questions such that you can revise it later. Work consistently on this section, doing 1 puzzle and 1 data a day for next few months non stop can help you acquaint with every type of question that can possibly be thrown your way. Consistent practice is the key.

nancy : SIR, THERE IS A VAST DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE QUESTIONS OF DI/LR THAT APPEAR IN AIMCATS TO THOSE IN STUDY MATERIALS.. PLEASE SUGGEST SOME BOOK FOR DI AND LR
rajeshsaraf : The best source :1) AIMCAT itself 2) Study material 3) Last 10 years of actual papers 4) SAMCATs and plenty of Online sectional tests

error : OK THAKS RAJESH SIR
rajeshsaraf : :)

gdf : SIR HOW TO PREPARE FOR DIFFICULT LOGICAL AND DI SETS
rajeshsaraf : Try to prepare for more of easy sets. That will take care of difficult part as well. For LR, complete topics from 1) Seating arrangement 2) venn diagrams 3) Distribution 4) Cubes 5) Binary logic and for DI, work on speed maths

kj : SIR ARE THERE ANY OTHER GOOD COLLEGES UNDER NMAT APART FROM NARSEE MONJEE...IS NMAT WORTH GIVING?
asim : UPES,IBS,VIT,AMITY are some other decent options, but let me make it clear that NMIMS is the only one which does not accept any other exam scores except NMAT.

hycb6a739 : HI SIR/MADAM Q/A PART IS VERY DIFFICULT TO ME TO GET UNDERSTAND AND SOLVING PROBLEMS
rajeshsaraf : Take it bit by bit. There are close to 25 chapters., Make it a point that you solve and complete 2 chapters (per 3 days). Also practice from AIMCAts, SAMCATs, online sectional tests

pri : IN THE QUANT SECTION, I'M ABLE TO SOLVE CORRECTLY MANY QUESTIONS ON MY OWN AFTER THE TEST THAT I LEAVE OR GET WRONG DURING THE TEST. IT IS VERY DISAPPOINTING AS I'M GETTING LOW PERCENTILE BECAUSE OF THIS. WHAT SHOULD I DO TO GET RID OF THIS PROBLEM?
anujkhanna : It happens with many people because of exam pressure and constantly thinking about time which is left sometime we make mistakes and even solve less questions now for next aimcat do not be nervous and try to solve the question as you are solving it at home as you have told here that you can solve the questions.

shruti : SIR, IM FACING PROBLEM WHILE SOLVING GEOMETRY Q. CAN YOU PLS SUGGEST SOME BOOK SO THAT I CAN WORK ON BASICS OF GEOMETRY
rajeshsaraf : TIME material is adequate. Solve questions from SM1001701, SM1001706 (CRQ, ex a, exb ) thoroughly

gdf : FOR LR AND DI WHICH BOOKS TO OPT AS IN TRISHNA DI SOLUTUIONS AR NOT PRESENT
srinivasbelvi : Firstly complete 2 DI & 2LR books given to you. Parallely complete 50 sectional tests presented on your SHP. In addition to that solve DI & LR questions from past 10 year CAT papers presented on your SHP. Trust me you do not need any additional practice...

prakash : SIR IS 5 MONTHS IS ENOUGH FOR CRAKING CAT.
abhishek : Absolutely. With the correct approach and efforts. Be positive

iyer : WHEN WE PREPARE A RUSUME SO IS IT NECESSARY TO WRITE RUSUME OR CV ON THE TOP OF PAGE
rajeshsaraf : Not required

kj : SIR PLEASE GIVE SOME TIPS ON HOW TO IMPROVE LR...NOT ABLE TO SOLVE MANY QUESTIONS IN AIMCAT
rajeshsaraf : There are five to six important topics 1) Seating Arrangement 2) Distribution 3) Quants based reasoning 4) Binary Logic 5) Venn diagrams 6) Cubes Try and complete all the varieties of the qs (easy, moderate and difficult). pay special attention to how you interpret and solve where there are multiple cases and multiple conditions (almost like 10 conditions)

error : SIR IS THERE ANY BSCHOOL WITH SPECIALIZATION IN ECONIMICS MBA IN INDIA
asim : DU offers a management program on this.

karthikeyan : SIR IN QQUANSMOST OF THE TOPICS ARE NOT COVERED FOR ME I AM ONLY AWARE ON RATIO SPEED TIME AND WORK......I AM NOT EVEN KNOW THE BASICS OF THE NUMBER SYSTEM OR GEOMENTRY WERE MOST OF THE QUESTIONS HAVE BEEN PLACED IN MY AIMCAT AND I WILL BE BUSY IN MY TRAINING AFTER AUGUST EVEN IN MY AIMCATS I CAN ABLE TO ATTEND ONLY 3 QUESTION FROM QUANS WHAT I WANT TO DO NOW SIR PLZ HELP ME
rajeshsaraf : You have to cover the areas as early as possible. Try to invest at least 1-2 hrs daily (on quants) and solve varieties of questions. If nothing else, try and complete last 10 years of actual CAT questions

dlcc6wa29 : SIR, MY AIMCAT 1721 AND 1720 SCORES ARE 106 AND 95 RESPECTIVELY. THE SCORES OF VA/RC, LR/DI AND QA ARE 38,33 AND 35 IN AIMCAT 1721 AND 28,29,38 IN AIMCAT 1720 RESPECTIVELY. HOW TO TAKE THIS SCORE ABOVE 130 OR 140?
abhishek : Keep on taking the AIMCATS regularly. Also, analyse the paper as to where are you going wrong, check whether you have skipped any easy Questions in the Paper and did you solve mostly the tougher Questions. Particularly in DI and LR areas, go through the solutions for the Questions(Both the one's you were able to solve and the other which you weren't) to find better ways of solving the Questions. Repeat this exercise after each AIMCAT and keep up the efforts.

de4thm0ng3r : HI, I HAVE APPEARED FOR 3 AIMCATS TILL NOW AND I HAVE SCORED A MAX A 38 OUT OF 100, WHICH WAS IN MY SECOND TEST. MY PROBLEM IS THAT DURING THE EXAM WHEN I SIT DOWN FOR THE DI QUESTIONS, I IMMEDIATELY GET LOST AND AM NOT ABLE TO FOCUS FORWARD. PLEASE SUGGEST A SEQUENTIAL APPROACH SO THAT I CAN TACKLE THE DILR SECTION AND SCORE ATLEAST AROUND 70. THANKS
rajeshsaraf : DILR section in AIMCAT/CAT exam is more about the right skill set to reject the qs. Even if you attempt 4 sets (out of 8 sets), you can breeze to a cool 98+ percentile (last year in CAT 2015, it was 99+ percentile). The idea is to build skills as to whereby you can find out easy sets and differentiate those from difficult ones. Also, the sets which you are eventually leaving out (try and don't spend more than 3 mins on that)

pranjal : HOW IS THE LEVEL OF QUANTS IN NMAT EXAM ?
anujkhanna : compared to cat we can consider difficulty is 50-70 percent.

shibashish : HI SIR, I AM ABLE TO SOLVE ALMOST AROUND 25-28 QUESTIONS OF AIMCATS WHEN TRYING THE SAME AT HOME IN 40 TO 50 MINS.HOWEVER WHEN GIVING THE EXAM I AM FOLLOWING THE TRADITIONAL WAY AND THE SHORTCUTS AND OTHER METHODS DOESN'T STRIKE. AS A RESULT AM BEREFT OF TIME AND DO MORE MISTAKES.WHAT CAN BE DONE TO CORRECT THE ERROR?
abhishek : Take more of AIMCATS. Test taking strategy is not only limited to tricks and concepts, but also taking the test in CAT setup. I am sure this is only a temporary glitch and will be corrected with regular AIMCATs. Keep taking the AIMCATs

pranjal : HOW IS THE LEVEL OF QUANTS IN NMAT EXAM WHEN COMPARED TO CAT EXAM ?
anujkhanna : Already answered plz check

ashu : SIR, I AM SCORING LESS IN QUANT SECTION SO HOW SHOULD I BRING IT UP AND HOW TO APPROACH FOR CAT FROM THIS POINT OF TIME.
anujkhanna : You also must go through the explanation of answers and see whether you already knew the core concept for solving each question. You should list down the questions which you could not solve despite having the conceptual clarity on the same. Also try to solve question by various methods / shortcuts even if you have to make equation try to minimize the efforts by making single/double liner equations. Also a very important factor is choosing right question.

tamalghosh00 : HELLO SIR! I AM FACING HUDDLES IN DI/LR MAINLY DUE TO TIME MANAGEMENT. MY ATTEMPT DOES NOT GO BEYOND 10-12 ALTHOUGH WITH 80% ACCURACY. BUT WHAT DO NEXT TO INCREASE NO OF ATTEMPTS??? IT TAKES TOO MUCH TIME FOR ME TO UNDERSTAND THE PASSAGES REGARDING DI/LR & TO SOLVE THEREAFTER....
rajeshsaraf : There will be a couple of difficult sets and while a couple of easy sets will be there. Those easy sets can be done (usually at least two easy sets can be done in a cumulative time of 20 mins). Further, regulkar practice is required. Build speed maths skills, for LR prior exposure to a large variety of qs related to "Arrangement ", "Distribution, "Quants based Reasoning", "General Puzzles", "Selection", "Binary logic etc helps

kj : SIR WHAT SHOULD BE THE STRATEGY TO REVISE THE QUANT CHAPTERS DONE SO FAR?
rajeshsaraf : Revision of the concepts, formulae, solving qs from ex(a) , ex (b) and solving all the qs asked in last 10 years of CAT exam + online sectional tests + SAMCATs

karthikeyan : SIR HOW TO APPROACH THE GEOMENTRY AND NUMBER SYSTEM
rajeshsaraf : For Geometry, go for finer details. Divide that into further sub-topics like 1) Triangles 2) Quadrilaterals 3) Polygons 4) Circles 5) Solid objects. Again, go for further sub-detailing (say in triangles like SImilarity, congruency, apollonius theorem etc) . Same for Number system (learn for Binary, octal, hexadecimal -common systems)

scarecrow007 : FOR QUESTIONS IN LR, LETS SAY FOR A PARTICULAR QUESTION THERE ARE TWO POSSIBLE ANSWERS, Q OR R. AND AMONG THE GIVEN OPTIONS ARE, A) P B)Q C)S D)CBD. WHAT SHOULD BE MARKED AND WHY?
srinivasbelvi : Read question stem carefully. Question would be stated as which of the following can be... author might be asking for a possibility & not certainty.

mano : SIR AM DOING MY 3RD YEAR B.SC DEGREE IN DISTANCE EDUCATION WHAT ARE THE XAMS I CAN WRITE?!
asim : CAT,XAT,IIFT,TISSNET,MAT are some of `them.

kj : SIR IN THE LAST FEW AIMCATS...MY PERCENTILE HAS BEEN IN THE 80S OR HAS JUST CROSSED 90 PERCENTILE....HOW TO TAKE IT TO 95+ ?
anujkhanna : Analyse your AIMCAT – the best way to do it is to see which question have you marked correct and how much time you have taken and what was the average time taken by others if you are taking more time try to reduce steps. Secondly which questions have you marked wrong how many people attempted that and how many solved that accurately ex – if 60% people solved it with 20-30% accuraccy then it must be a trick question, why to attempt such question. Third in the question you have left column if there are easy or medium difficulty based question try to convert them. The whole point behind taking mock tests is to analyze your preparation. The mock tests will give you the idea about your strengths and weaknesses.

gdf : IN SHP WE DON'T HAVE QUESTIONS PAAPERS POST 2008..WHY HAD TIME NOT PROVIDED THOSE
srinivasbelvi : CAT papers are uploaded on SHP under test analysis tab.

swetha : SIR, HOW DO I IMPROVE MY TIMING SKILLS FOR EXAMS!!! I ANSWER VERY LESS NUMBER OF QUESTIONS AROUND 8 ONLY IN QUANTS
abhishek : For improving the number of Questions, you can do the following 1. Learn new tricks and techniques which helps in improving speed, 2. Learn the skill of identifying easier Questions(this will take practice)

pranjal : HOW MANY SETS OF LR NEED TO BE SOLVED ON PER DAY BASIS ?
anujkhanna : atleast 2 caselet for each per day will be sufficient and it will also depend upon the difficulty level of the questions you are solving for more difficult set you can just analyse 1 Case-let

mbaaspirant : SIR, FOR ANALYTICAL REASONING LIKE STATEMENT ASSUMPTION, ARGUMENT, CAUSE & EFFECT WHICH BOOK SHOULD WE FOLLOW?
rajeshsaraf : These topics are part of Critical Reasoning.

amrit : SIR, MY AIMCAT SCORE FOR 1722-112, 1721- 118, 1720-114. KINDLY ANALYSE AND SUGGEST SOMETHING FOR A 150 SCORE
rajeshsaraf : Scores above 100 are good. One milestone is achieved. Clearly, the next milestone is crossing 150 on a consistent basis. Check for Accuracy rate. For quants, it should be nothing less than 90%, for DI and RC (nothing less than 80%). Point No 2) More exposure to variety of models of qs will help in ensuring that easy qs are not left out in Exam.

akshaynakra : HI SIR. I AM UNABLE TO GIVE TIME TO MY STUDIES AS MY JOB IS TAKING 10 HOURS EACH DAY. WHAT SHOULD I DO? I AM TOO CONFUSED.
srinivasbelvi : Set your priorities upright. Either balance between work & CAT preparation OR compromise on one of them.

shibashish : SIR ,ONE ISSUE THAT PERSISTS ARE THE TOPICS ESPECIALLY IN QUANTS IS THAT FEW OF THE TOPICS LIKE NUMBER SYSTEMS, TIME AND DISTANCE THE COMPLEX QUESTIONS THAT I DID EARLIER,SAY AROUND A MONTH BACK I TEND TO FORGET TO APPLY THE SAME WHEN TRYING THOSE. AND SINCE WE HAVE FURTHER TOPICS TO COVER I AM NOT ABLE TO REVISE THOSE.SO BASICALLY IT IS CAUSING ME CONCERN AS TO WHAT CAN BE DONE IN THIS CASE??
anujkhanna : It is always advisable that after every one week you revise the concepts specially those question which are either very difficult or very confusing.

pranjal : SIR THIS TIME DI SETS WERE NOT MUCH TOUGH CAN WE RELATE TO THIS LEVEL OF AIMCAT TO THE ACTUAL CAT TEST ?
srinivasbelvi : Last two years of CAT had tough DI & LR. Hence prepare yourself to tackle harder DIs & LRs.

swetha : THE NON OPTIONAL QUESTIONS IN VA ARE ALMOST ALWAYS WRONG FOR ME! I DONOT UNDERSTAND WHERE I GO WRONG WHILE ATTEMTING THE QUESTIONS. PLEASE GIVE ME ADVICE ON THAT .
vjs : During practice solve the question till final answer.( In case of QA)

pratya : HOW MANY SETS OF DI SHOULD BE SOLVED IN A DAY WITH TIME MANAGEMENT?
srinivasbelvi : About 2/3 sets per day should do good.

ammu : I FACE DIFFICULTYIN GEOMETRY QUESTIONS..HOW TO APPROACH IT SYSTEMATICALLY...AND I HAV STARTED PRACTISING ONLY BEFORE A FEW DAYS..SO HOW MANY HOURS SHOULD I ALLOT FOR DI ND LR EVERYDAY
abhishek : Quant requires proper practice. Start from the basics and gradually improve the level. Same will be the case for LR and DI(Practice - Even more important) We cannot quantify the number of hours, it will depend on the aptitude level of the candidate. For an average student, around 4 to 6 hours will be sufficient.

amrit : SIR, WHAT WAS THE SCORE FOR 90%ILE AND 95%ILE FOR CAT15?
rajeshsaraf : About 40% marks will have taken you to more than 90 percentile, 55% marks for 99+ percentile and 75% marks for 100 percentile (CAT 2015)

ashu : SIR HOW TO PREPARE FOR LR SECTION, I AM SCORING LESS IN THAT.
anujkhanna : LR sets, note down the different models of problems that you come across during the course of your preparation in a separate book. Also note the trick to solve those questions such that you can revise it later. Try to attempt every LR problem in a methodical fashion, and solve step-by-step, because trying to look at all the information at once will confuse even the best of us. Hence it is important to be very clear with data before you get deeper into any caselet and getting your time invested in it. The most important step to solving an LR problem is to write down all of the information given in a box, table or diagram. Many people have habit of reading the case-let first and then again read it to get the solution which is time consuming.

scarecrow007 : IN OUR BATCH, LR CLASSES FOR ARRANGEMENT, DISTRIBUTION, SELECTION, AND BINARY LOGIC HAVE BEEN TAKEN (LR4). I AM WORRIED FOR THE SYLLABUS IS HUGE. PLEASE SUGGEST
rajeshsaraf : For LR, these are the major topics (as you have enlisted). Syllabus will always be huge. You got to think that you are tougher than any of the person around or any of the challenging situations with which you are confronted with. YOU CAN DO IT !! Complete these topics by completing qs from ex(a) and ex(b)

kj : SIR HOW TO KEEP CALM WHEN GIVING EXAM IN INVIGILATED MODE...I USUALLY GET LOW PERCENTILE IN INVIGILATED EXAMS AS COMPARED TO THE NON INVIGILATED ONES?
feroz : Your focus should only be on the question paper. Don't pay attention to the rest of the people. You'll have to inculcate this as the final exam would be in the same mode

tamalghosh00 : SIR I ALWAYS END UP IN GETTING 5-6 WRONG ANSWERS IN QUANT IN AIMCATS WHICH BASICALLY HAPPENS EITHER DUE TO CALCULATION MISTAKE OR IN HURRY.MY QUANT PERCENTILE IN AIMCATS IS SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 80-86 PERCENTILE.BUT DUE TO SUCH MENTIONED SILLY MISTAKES I ALWAYS GET 30-40 LESS MARK.HOW TO IMPROVE THE ACCURACY??? ALSO AS PER LAST YEAR CAT HOW ONE NEEDED TO SCORE TO BRING 99 PERCENTILE IN QUANT?
feroz : Cut down a little bit on speed, your accuracy will improve. Last year can't be a criteria for next year. So, practice as much as you can

chandu : HI SIR ..I'M WORKING NOW. LAST AIMCAT I SCORED 98 MARKS.VA/RC 48 DI 29 QUANT 21. PLS SUGGEST ME HOW TO IMPROVE MY SCORE.ALSO I COULDNT CROSS CUTOF FOR ANY SECTION..I'M DOING 2 SETS PER DAY DI/LR AND 2 RCS ,DAILY.PLS HELP ME WHAT MORE HAVE I TO DO WELL AND STRATEGY (FOR QUANTS ESPECIALLY) AS I GET LESS TIME TO PREPARE.
anujkhanna : You also must go through the explanation of answers and see whether you already knew the core concept for solving each question. You should list down the questions which you could not solve despite having the conceptual clarity on the same. Also try to solve question by various methods / shortcuts even if you have to make equation try to minimize the efforts by making single/double liner equations. Regularly practice and revise the formula, vocabulary and grammar rules, so that you don’t have to think hard on the exam day.

swetha : HOW DO I SELECT THE QUESTIONS TO ANSWER INITIALLY. I DECIDE INITIALLY I WILLLL BE ABLE TO ANSWER FEW QUESTIONS!!! BUT LATER ON WHEN I START SOLVING, I DONT GET THE ANSWER. OR SOMETIMES THE QUESTIONS WHICH ARE EASY, I MISS OUT ON THEM AND LATER REALISE IT WAS A EASY QUESTION WHILE ANALYSING MY AIMCATS
rajeshsaraf : Those things (leaving out easy qs or not getting the answer to easy qs quickly)are bound to occur during the exam time. The only thing you have to ensure is "right quantum of practice" with which these types of issues can be taken care of

de4thm0ng3r : AS A CORRESPONDENCE STUDENT WILL I GET THE FACILITY OF CONSULTING A FACULTY? EVEN ELECTRONICALLY?
asim : You may send your queries to postal@time4education.com

pri : BY WHEN SHOULD I AIM TO FINISH UP WITH THE TIME BOOKS AND GET STARTED WITH SOLVING LAST YEAR QUESTIONS AND SAMCATS?
anujkhanna : by the end of july or mid august.

nikki : SIR, I AM NOT ABLE TO INCREASE MY SPEED IN QUANT. HOW DO I IMPROVE MY SPEED AND CALCULATIONS?. EVEN AFTER PRACTICING SPEED MATHS WHEN I WRITE MOCKS I TEND TO USE THE STANDARD METHOD..HOW DO I TACKEL THIS PROBLEM.
anujkhanna : Also try to solve question by various methods / shortcuts even if you have to make equation try to minimize the efforts by making single/double liner equations. at least for 15-20 days practice many questions of quant without making long equations or by using traditional method of calculation you will automatically get adjusted to new methods.

tamalghosh00 : SIR I AM A NON-TIME STUDENTS.WHAT ARE THE BOOKS NEED TO BE FOLLOWED TO INCREASE MARKS & SPEED WHILE SOLVING DI/LR?
srinivasbelvi : Try TIME material & get access to SHP which has good number of DILR sets. I'm sure that TIME material will give enough exposure to varieties to handle DILR sets that might feature in CAT.

mbaaspirant : FOR DI, IS EVERYDAY PRACTICE WITH TIME LIMIT SUFFICIENT OR DO WE EVEN NEED TO LEARN AND UNDERSTAND SOMETHING FOR DI?
srinivasbelvi : Mear practice might help to ace calculation based DI however you might have to learn concepts behind reasoning based DI. In all exposure to varieties will help a great deal.

akshaynakra : ANY MATERIAL TO PRACTICE THE CUBES QUESTION? I FIND IT HARD TO UNDERSTAND THEM
rajeshsaraf : Best source: TIME study material (LR book) SM1001705, Online sectional tests

pratya : CAN U PLEASE SHARE SOME TIPS FOR SOLVING QUANT QUESTIONS?
feroz : Identify your strength areas and work on your weeker areas regularly. Also, identify the topics which are important for CAT e.g., Algebra, Numbers etc

kj : SIR PLS SUGGEST A TIMETABLE THAT ONE CAN FOLLOW AT THIS STAGE OF PREPARATION SO THAT WE CAN PRACTICE ALL THE 3 SECTIONS REGULARLY?
feroz : We'd suggest that you take up two areas alternately on a daily basis. Youmay club RC & DI and LR & QA(indicative only)

mbaaspirant : IN THE LR SECTION FOR ARRANGEMENT AND PUZZLES TYPE QUESTIONS WHAT ARE SOME GOOD TRICKS TO SOLVE QUESTIONS?
rajeshsaraf : The key point is building up the ability to understand a large chunk of interconnected set of conditions (which may lead to multiple cases in solving of the puzzles). A regular practice of qs like "Linear Arrangemnt", 'Circular Arrangement", "Distribution +Arrangement" types of qs have to be solved on a regular basis

nid93 : I HAVE BEEN GIVING AIMCATS THIS YEAR AND MY PERCENTILE HAS BEEN IN THE RANGE OF 97-99% . I WANT TO KNOW IF THE LEVEL OF AIMCATS IS ENOUGH TO BE PREPARED FOR CAT OR DO WE NEED TO SOLVE QUESTIONS WITH HIGHER DIFFICULTY LEVEL?
anujkhanna : Level of AIMCAT is designed to match the lavel of Actual CAT so it will be more than enough you can also try to get last years AIMCAT papers and old CAT/XAT/IIFT papers should also be solved along with it.

mbaaspirant : I HAVE FINISHED ARUN SHARMA AND QUANTUM CAT AND I KEEP REVISING THIER GOOD QUESTIONS REGULARLY. APART FROM THIS WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO DO FOR 99.5+ IN QUANTS?
srinivasbelvi : I believe it is good enough. Apply your learnings in AIMCATs & get similar percentiles what you expect in CAT. Knowing concept is one thing & applying it under pressure is the other thing. Make sure of later part as you've done your first part.

ben : SIR, WAT WOULD BE THE RIGHT TIME TO START TAKING SAMCATS?
feroz : ASAP. Don't delay anymore and do the thorough analysis

nid93 : HOW DO WE SELECT THE RIGHT DI/LR QUESTIONS. THE TIME REQUIRED TO READ A DI/LR SET IS SIGNIFICANT. SO HOW DO WE SELECT WHICH SETS TO SOLVE?
asim : You need to familiarize your self with different types of DI AND LR caselets, only after practicing a lot of questions, you will develop ability of quickly identify the type and difficulty level of questions.

thea100 : SOLVING DI QUESTIONS INVOLVING TABLES TAKES A LOT OF TIME, SO IS IT PREFERABLE TO ATTEMPT THEM LAST?
rajeshsaraf : It depends on the type of qs. Generally, there are two models of qs 1) Calculation intensive 2) Logic based. try and analyze what types of qs are taking a lot of time. Further, you have to scan through 8 sets and do the sets which are easy ones. You don't have to necessarily solve DI sets. If you are comfortable with LR sets, even that is fine

rah : HOW DO EXCEL IN DI AND REASONING AND QUANTS?
srinivasbelvi : Here is the classical way to prepare for any section of CAT... Understand the basics; practice the applications based on the basics learnt; reinforce your learning by revision.

rudra : SIR HOW TO SOLVE QUESTIONS BASED ON TRUTH TELLER QUICKLY BECAUSE I USED TO TAKE LOTS OF TIME ON THOSE QUESTION TYPE?
rajeshsaraf : That belongs to the topic "Binary Logic". Such qs have to be solved using the process of assumption. Say there are two persons (P & Q). One of them is a truthteller and the other is a liar. Assume P is a truthteller and try and check the consistency of the statements. If all the statements are consistent among themselves, that implies the assumption is valid

bk : SIR , I JUST STARTED STUDYING FOR CAT . I HAVE BEEN REGULAR IN CLASSES BUT RECENTLTY STARTED PRACTICING . I SCORE NEARLY 80'S IN AIMCATS . AT PRESENT I M DOING THE STUDY MATERIAL PROVIDED AT THE COACHING , I DO EVERY AND EVERY QUESTION OF IT . IS IT SUFFICIENT FOR NOW? WHAT SHOULD BE THE APPROACH OF DOING IT AND ARE THERE ANY TOPICS WHICH I SHOULD FINISH FIRST? PLEASE HELP WITH IT. PLEASE PROVIDE ME WITH SOME FUTURE GUIDLINES TOO. THANKING YOU IN ADVANCE.
vjs : Practice all the questions given in the material provided time to time by T.I.M.E. You need to start preparation well in advance for a decent percentile to ensure the calls. recognise areas you are good at and areas you feel are difficult for you. Prepare a study plan and execute it. Also,go with the classes to cover certain topics.

pranjal : HOW IS LEVEL OF DI OF CMAT WHEN COMPARED TO CAT ?
srinivasbelvi : Half the difficulty level of CAT

amrit : SIR, I AM UNABLE TO FIND THE LEVEL OF QUESTIONS FOR PRACTICE IN ANY SOURCE EXCEPT AIMCATS.IT IS NOT EVEN IN THE STUDY MATERIAL WHERE TO FIND A CAT LEVEL PRACTICE QUESTIONS EXCEPT AIMCATS?
anujkhanna : Try to arrage last years AIMCATs as well from have any friend or senior. Also previous Year CAT / IIFT / XAT papers will be a good resource.

kappa : HI SIR, WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT TOPICS IN LR
anujkhanna : Arrangements (circular and linear) distribution / binary logic / venn diagrams are some of the most important topic for CAT for other management exams we have some more topics like CUBE / number series

swetha : I LEARNT HOW TO APPROACH DI/LR QUESTIONS A MONTH BACK. EARLIER I USED TO DO BETEER IN DI/LR(NOT GOOD, BUT DEFINITELY BETEER COMPARED TO OTHER SECTIONS). I THOUGHT I WILL BE ABLE TO IMPROVE MY ACCURACY BUT I ACTUALLY STARTED GETTING REALLY REALLYY LOW MARKS IN DI/LR(30 PERCENTILE). ITS DISAPPONTING THAT MY EFFORTS A MONTH BACK HAS GONE WASTE. WHAT SHOULD I DO???
rajeshsaraf : An awareness of the relation between marks/percentile will help a lot. Pls note that if you get 12 qs correct (out of 32 qs) OR even if you leave 20 qs, observing the last six AIMCATs, 12 qs (or 36 marks) has been very close to about 88 percentile. Obviously that's a huge morale booster. So, when you face DI/LR section, don't jump into trying into doing all the qs. Rather tread cautiously and check which are those two easy sets. 99% of the battle is won if you can figure out where are the two easy sets (there are bound to be 2 easy sets out of 8 sets). Once, you are done with 2 easy sets, look for at least one more set. That will give a huge boost to self-confidence. Believe in Self

avi : SIR,ANY TRICKS FOR SEATING ARRANGEMENTS..
srinivasbelvi : The set of points to be borne in mind would have been stated by the faculty taking basic class on the seating arrangement. Work with that understanding as there might be no special tricks in seating...

kj : SIR, DO YOU RECOMMEND GIVING NMAT?...I MEAN IF YOU HAD TO PICK ANY 3-4 EXAMS...WHAT WOULD THEY BE?
feroz : CAT, XAT, NMAT, SNAP, IIFT

mac : SIR IS THERE ANY GUD BSCHOOL WHICH PROVIDE MBA IN LAW SPECIALISATION
raman : As such it makes more sense to a General Mangement programme and to do projects or internships in Law firms instead of looking for such specialisations.

mba2016 : SIR HOW TO INCREASE MY CLACULATION SPEED. I GET STUCK AT THE CALCULATIONS AND THE MORE I TRY TO SOLVE IT FAST, THE MORE TIME IT TAKES AND I USUALLY END UP DOING IT WRONG. (I CAN GO WRONG FOR CALCULATIONS AS SIMPLE AS 11+7 !! )
abhishek : PRACTICE!! Learn the right techniques and learn its applications also.

mbaaspirant : SIR WHAT TYPE OF QUESTIONS ARE INCLUDED IN REASONING BASED DI?
feroz : The calculations are clubbed with a little bit of reasoning. Every question would be having a fresh condition e.g., in certain questions you may be asked to maximise or minimise under certain constraints

ashu : SIR AS OF NOW I HAVE STARTED GIVING TIME FOR QUANT AND DILR 3 HRS EACH DAILY AND GIVING TESTS ON SHP AND SOLVING BOOKLETS. WILL IT HELP ME TO IMPROVE MY SCORE. IS THAT SUFFICIENT ?
abhishek : Yes. It will be sufficient.

mac : IN LR QUESTIONS FORMING NOMENCLATURE AS PER ALL CONDITION TAKING LONG TIME HOW TO APPROACH IN SHORT PERIOD OF TIME
srinivasbelvi : Well, the is is the most typical question every one poses in general. One has to make their own codes. With practice one will be able to create their own codes in the shortest possible time.

rohit : SIR I HAVE COVERED ALMOST ALL THE TOPICS OF QUAN FROM BOOKLET BUT STILL NOT GETTING A GOOD SCORE AND I M ALSO DEVOTING AS MUCH TIME AS I CAN BUT DO NOT GETTING SCORES SO KINDLY SUGGEST ME ANY APPROACH.
vjs : you must analyse your strengths and weaknesses and plan your preparation accordingly, and You need to keep preparing till you are confident on the topic, and then keep revising regularly.

pranjal : THANK YOU @SRINIVASBELVI SIR FOR YOUR GUIDANCE
srinivasbelvi : Mention not... best wishes

thea100 : SIR, I'M NOT ABLE TO MEMORIZE FORMULAS PROPERLY WHICH REDUCES MY SOLVING SPEED.HOW DO I IMPROVE ON THAT?
feroz : Formulae anyway aren't that important as the concepts are (except for a few basic ones). Focus on concept building, rest will follow

akshaynakra : BELVI SIR CAN YOU PLEASE SHARE YOUR EMAIL ID? I LOST IT.
srinivasbelvi : here you go... srinivas.belvi@time4education.com

nikki : SIR ON AN AVERAGE HOW MANY HOURS SHOULD I PREPARE? BEING FROM A NON-ENGG BACKGROUND I FACE A LOT OF DIFFICULTY IN QUANT AND DI..MY SCORES IN AIMCATS ARE NOT UPTO THE MARK WHAT STARTEGY SHOULD I FOLLOW
rajeshsaraf : Regular practice is the key. Even if the scores are low, that's alrite. Analyze thoroughly. Solve the qs (which you couldn't solve during the test time)

mbaaspirant : FOR CR, THERE IS A 1000CR PDF ON TOTALGADHA.COM . IS IT BENEFICIAL TO PRACTICE CR FROM THERE?
srinivasbelvi : Sure you can try after completing TIME material both books & online ones available on SHP.

de4thm0ng3r : HOW HELPFUL ARE TIME'S VIDEO LECTURES? I AM THINKING OF BUYING THEM AS I CAN'T PHYSICALLY ATTEND A CLASS, BUT AM UNSURE AS TO HOW MUCH WILL THEY HELP IN GAINING THE CONCEPTS AND BASICS AS WELL AS ADVANCED TECHNIQUES? PL ANSWER
feroz : They are detailed videos. Concepts are covered in depth. You'll find them useful.

dlcc6wa29 : THANK YOU SIR. WHAT TOPICS SHOULD I GO THROUGH FIRST FOR TAKING MY SCORE TO AROUND 130-140. KIND OF GETTING DEPRESSED AND FRUSTRATED BECAUSE OF ALMOST SATURATION IN SCORES(I.E. 95-110)
feroz : As far as QA is concerned, Algebra, Geo, Numbers, TSD, P&C form the bulk. For LR, practice as many variants

bk : WHAT ALL TOPICS I SHOULD PRACTICE FIRST?
srinivasbelvi : As you have enough time to do all topics. Hence start with the topics of your interest.

pranjal : THANK YOU @ANUJKHANNA SIR FOR YOUR GUIDANCE.
anujkhanna : Your welcome All the best for coming exams

akm39 : GOOD EVENING SIR, PLZ SUGGEST HOW MANY SETS OF DI LR ONE SHOULD TARGET? I TARGET 2-2 SETS OF BOTH AND SCORE MOSTLY ABOVE 98 %LE. I KNOW IT DEPENDS ON DIFFICULTY OF PAPER, BUT IF ONE IS ALREADY GETTING 98%LE, PLZ SUGGEST HOW MUCH SHOULD I ACTUALLY TARGET, TO GET MAXIMUM? I AM USUALLY LEFT WITH NO TIME AFTER SOLVING THESE 4 SETS!
rajeshsaraf : That's a good attempt. In cat 2015, 4 correct Sets would have taken your score past 99 percentile. The only thing is "consistency". Secondly, there will be some qs (which you still can answer without even cracking the complete set). Once, the four sets are done and dusted and say if you have only five mins, then in that time, it's virtually impossible to crack a full set (but you can definitely look for cracking an individual question, treating that more like a quants question). That will come through loads of practice.

mbaaspirant : SIR THERE IS A DEARTH OF GOOD BOOKS FOR CAT TYPE LR ONCE WE FINISH TIME MATERIAL. WHICH BOOKS SHOULD WE FOLLOW?
feroz : please finish off the material first. You'll find more than enough for an exam like CAT

avi : SIR,ANY EXTRA BOOKS REFERS EXCEPT TIME BOOKLET..
rajeshsaraf : TIME booklets are more than adequate

mac : IS JBIMS IS ACCEPTING ONLY MHCET SCORE OR CAT TOO??
srinivasbelvi : CAT too

hycb6a739 : SIR IM NON MATHS STUDENT I'M FACING BIG PROBLEM WITH Q/A TOPICS ,AND ITS DRAGING ME BACK AND DEMOTIVATING I'M LITTLE OK WITH ARITHMETIC TOPICS LIKE RPV,AGES,AVG,SI&CI,TMIE&WORK,DISTANCE,SPEED, BUT IN PURE MATHS LIKE GEOMETRY,CO-ORDINAT GEOMETRY,TRIGONOMETRY,MESURATIONS,ALGEBRA,LOGARITHM PROBABILITY, ETC .I'M PREPARING FROM ONE MONTH BUT NO IMPROVEMENT PLEASE GIVE ME SUGGESTIONS TO IMPROVE MY Q/A.IS THIS 5 MOTHS OK TO GET 90% .
rajeshsaraf : Simple advice. Don't give up. There are bound to be moments of frustrations. But you got to move ahead. Look at the brighter side. Take one chapter at a time. For example (say Indices and Surds). Check what part is dragging you back. Make notes for the same. (CLearly all the concepts will not be difficult. If there are 50 concepts, may be 10 concepts will be difficult. Make a note of them and discuss with the faculty members)

chandu : THANKS ANUJKHANNA SIR. I'M LOOKING AT SOLN ONCE I HAVE DONE SO AS TO SEE IF BETTER APROACH THAN MINE IS GVEN.COULD YOU ALSO ELABORATE REVISION , AS IN WHAT HAS TO BE DONE FOR QUALITY REVSION?
anujkhanna : if you are looking for alternative approach try to think about the solution from every possible angle and also try hit and trial / working from answer option methods to get better result. Consult your faculty member to take their insight as well. As for revision try to do it on every weekend by looking at previous concepts that you have done and can you connect them to coming concepts for example time and work / time speed distance have almost same kind of logic.

swetha : THIS IS OFF TOPIC BUT PLEASE CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME IF THERE IS CONSETION FOR A TIME STUDENT FOR TIME VIDEOS. THE OFFICE STAFF ARE NEVER RESPONDING. I HAVE BEEN ASKING THEM FOR THE PAST ONE MONTH IF I CAN PAY SO THEY CAN UPLOAD IN SHP. THEY NEVER RESPOND.
rajeshsaraf : Send a mail to info@time4education.com

anks : HI HAVE ATTEMPTED AIMCAT 1720..BUT MY SCORES IS VERY LOW IN LR..ONLY 2 RIGHT N 2 WRONG I COULD NOT SOLVE OTHER LR QUESTIONS IN THIS AIMCAT . WAS THE LEVEL OF LR VERY HARD? ..I HAVE SOLVED THE BOOK PROBLEMS.BUT STILL I COULD NOT SOLVE THE QUESTIONS. WHERE AS I WAS COMFORTABLE WITH THE DI PART.
rajeshsaraf : AIMCAT 1720 DI/LR was easy -moderate. The set on Binary logic (where nine statements are made by a person where these statements are arranged in a particular order of true and false statements) was easy. That can be done in max of 8 mins. Similarly, the last set in DI (Mileage/petrol consumed -scatter chart) was an easy one. 2 qs from the first set in DI (Food tax ) and two qs from the (Average export price) were very much doable. Even if one has done these twelve qs correctly, scores would have been 85+ percentile

bk : WHAT SHOULD MINIMUM AMOUNT OF TIME I SHOULD DEVOTE FOR DI LR AND QUANT EVERYDAY?
feroz : At least 4-5 hours on an average

swetha : @ANKUJKHAANA SIR, SENIORS SHP IS DEACTIVATED RIGHT??? HOW CAN WE GET LAST YEARS AIMCAT PAPERS??? ??
anujkhanna : printed version of aimcats are also given to students ask your seniors if they have kept the copies of the same.

pratya : IN QUANT,HOW TO DECIDE WHICH QUESTIONS NEED TO SOLVE AND WHICH QUESTIONS ARE NOT?
vjs : Solve simple questions first then proceed for difficult questions.Keep going with known questions at the end try the difficult questions.

swetha : HOULD I WORK ON MY STRONG AREAS FIRST AND IMPROVE IT OR WEAK AREAS
abhishek : I think working on weaker areas will be a better idea. As most of the top B schools look at sectional cutoffs. First improve your weaker areas and then work on the stronger ones.

kj : @FEROZ SIR..THANK YOU SIR!I HOPE TO DO BETTER IN THE COMING AIMCATS ....THNX FOR THE GUIDANCE.
feroz : All the very best

003mram : MAM, I AM NOT ABLE TO FOCUS PROPERLY FOR THE QUANT SECTION AFTER WRITING 2 HOURS OF RC AND DI IN THE AIMCATS. ALSO, MY STRENGTH IS THE QUANT BUT I AM NOT ABLE TO PUT MYSELF COMPLETELY INTO QUANT DURING AIMCATS..WHAT CAN I DO?
rajeshsaraf : That is precisely the reason as to why AIMCAts are being conducted. This way, you can learn how to channelize your energies and give undivided attention for at least those three hours. Don't worry !! Try and have a firm resolve that you can do it

mbaaspirant : SIR I END UP LEAVING A LOT OF QUESTIONS IN CAT WHICH I KNOW. MY EXAM TAKING STRATEGY AND SPEED IS NOT GOOD. I AM PLANNING TO GIVE 80+ CAT MOCKS WITH PROPER ANALYSIS OF EACH MOCK. WOULD IT BE BENEFICIAL?
feroz : Mock analysis will definitely prove to be more useful than anything else. But it should be done in a way it is supposed to be. Keep taking AIMCATs and you'll definitely improve. ALl the best

avi : SIR,OLD ACEDMIC SCORE AND WORK EXPERIENCE IF NOT SO GOOD THAN THERE IS ANY HOPE FOR MBA PREPARING STUDANT THAT HE SUCCESSFUL IN THERE MISSION OR NOT..
anujkhanna : In the past many student with this doubts have cleared various exams to be a part of very good B-school so i would say yes there are lot of hope provided the score in competitive exam is very good

swetha : THIS IS OFF TOPIC BUT WHEN I ASK THE NUGAMBAKKAM OFFICE IF I CAN HAVE THE AIMCAT PRINTED PAPERS, THEY SAY ITS THEY HAVENT GOT IT FROM HYDRABAD OFFICE. I HAVE BEEN ASKING FOR NEARLY TWO MONTHS.
feroz : write an e-mail to info@time4education.com. Let us also look into this in the meantime

nikki : THANKYOU SO MUCH @ANUJKHANNA SIR AND @RAJESHSARAF SIR FOR YOUR VALUABLE GUIDANCE :)
anujkhanna : your welcome All the best do well

chandu : THANK YOU @ ANUJKHANNA SIR..
anujkhanna : your welcome all the best keep calm and do well

thea100 : WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO LEARN MATH TIPS AND TRICKS?
feroz : Practice as much as you can. There's no short cut to hard work. Though you may also bring in some amount of smartness to cut down upon your overall efforts

anks : SIR, IS THERE ENOUGH TIME LEFT SO THAT I CAN IMPROVE MY SCORE IN DI/LR AND VA FROM 60%LE AND 70%LE RESPECTIVELY TO 95%LE + IN BOTH THE SECTIONS?. I AM RELATIVELY DOING GOOD WITH THE QUANT SECTION. WHAT SHOULD BE MY PREPARATION STRATEGY FOR THE NEXT 3 MONTHS(OR TILL CAT2016) IN DI/LR AND VA (ASSUMING I HAVE GONE THROUGH THE TOPICS ONCE) TO REACH ATLEAST 95%LE .
anujkhanna : Yes there is lot of time we can still work on the problems and turn them to opportunity. By now you should be done with learning the concepts by focusing on the most basic and moderate level questions from a set of reliable study material. Taking one mock test per week all through this month should suffice. Needless to say, a proper and detailed post-mock analysis is a must. By this month end you should step on the gas and move to two mock tests per week. Again, it goes without saying that proper analysis of both the mocks within the same week is mandatory. At this stage, solving the previous years’—CAT 1990-2008—papers will be really beneficial.

hycb6a739 : SIR I ATTEMPTED 1720 AIMCAT I GOT VERY LOW PERCENT 12.5. MARKS ARE 21, IN Q/A 4MORKS ONLY HOW CAN IMPROVE MY Q/A IS THIS 5 MONTHS ENOUGH TO GET GOOD PERCENTILE PLEASE SUGGEST ME
rajeshsaraf : Refer to SM1001701, SM1001706 and SM1001708. Go through CRQ first. Complete all the qs (don't spend too much of time there, you got to be familiar with those models of qs). Once through with that, go through ex (a) qs. The best strategy is NOT giving up (however tough the situation might be. You never know......

mayank : SIR DO WE HAVE TO DO SOME LR PROBLEMS FROM OTHER BOOKS ALSO APART FROM TIME MATERIAL??OR IS IT ENOUGH?
feroz : T.I.M.E. material is more than enough. But do it on a regular basis

chandu : THANKS @ANUJKHANNA SIR, PRACTISING DAILY FOR 2HRS WILL BE SUFFICIENT TO ACE THE EXAM?
anujkhanna : I would suggest While practicing make sure you are spending time for every subject. You should spend 60 min on quant / 30 min for logic and 30 min for DI along with 20 min for grammar and 40 min for RC on daily basis which will give enough practice for solving during cat exam As actual exam will be like this.

bijarniya : SIR IS THERE DEFENCE QUOTA AVAILABLE IN ALL SNAP COLLEGES
anujkhanna : yes in some of symbiosis colleges in fact SIMS college is mainly for people who have family with defence background.

swetha : IN MY LAST AIMCAT THERE WERE THREE NON OPTIONAL QUESTIONS IN QUANTS THAT WERE RIGHT FOR ME BUT I REALISED WHILE ANALYSING IT SAID MINE WAS WRONG. BUT MY ANSWER AND THE PAPER'S ANSWER WERE EXACTLY THE SAME. I DOUBLE CHECKED.
feroz : Post this on info@time4education.com. We'll have a look at it

navjot : SIR, IN LR I HAVE TROUBLE SOLVING QUESTIONS ON SELECTIONS. PLEASE EXPLAIN THE RIGHT STEPS TO GO ABOUT IT.
rajeshsaraf : Get your concepts right on statements like 1) if P is selected, Q will be selected 2) Unless P is selected, Q will not be selected 3) Only if P is selected, Q will be selected 4) Either P or Q will be selected 5) AT most one of P & Q will be selected. These are some frequently encountered statements. See that you are comfortable with these types of statements

akshaynakra : SIR HOW TO WORK ON ACCURACY ?
raman : Do not put yourselves into undue pressure. Do things at a steady pace. May be you can start looking at problems that you have solved from exercies or from SM or handouts. Cut down on the speed.

chandler : CAN WE EXPECT THE ON-SCREEN CALCULATOR FOR CAT 2016? ( I KNOW THE OFFICIAL COMMUNICATION WILL BE IN AUGUST, STILL WHAT IS YOUR SAY?)
srinivasbelvi : I opine that screen calculator might continue for the years to come...

dlcc6wa29 : SIR, WHAT IS THE PROPER WAY AND REQUIRED TIME THAT WE SHOULD GIVE TO THE ANALYSIS OF AIMCATS. AND BECAUSE THEY ARE AVAILABLE IN PDF'S, NOR THEY CAN BE SAVED. IT GENERALLY TAKES MUCH MORE TIME TO ANALYSE THEM.
rajeshsaraf : Generally, you need to look at the types of errors committed. 1) Error like any easy qs left out 2) Error like unnecessary amount of time spent on difficult qs 3) error like 2+3 =6 4) silly errors etc

manu : I GO FOR WEEKEND BATCH ,ONLY 50% SYLLABUS IS COMPLETED SO IS THERE ENOUGH TIME LEFT TO FINISH THE SYLLABUS OR SHOULD I PREPARE ON MY OWN
rajeshsaraf : Syllabus, sooner or later, will definitely be completed. You will always have a good headstart if you can parallely think of completing pending things on your own.

saloni : I M TRYING BUT NOT GETTING GOOD SCORE SOMETIMES MARKS GOES TO NEGATIVE WHAT TO DO PLEASE TELL....
abhishek : Try to work on your concepts. Build them right. Try to solve questions which you are very sure of. Control the number of attempts.

anks : WHAT STRATEGY WHOULD I FOLLOW TO IMPROVE DI/LR SCORE?
srinivasbelvi : Well, strategy is too strong a word. Strategy is a function of ones SWOT. It might be too early to discuss the final strategy if you are preparing 1st time for CAT. Also strategy keeps changing based on your learning & exposure.

swetha : DO I NEED SEPARATE PREPERATION FOR OTHER EXAMS(CMAT, .,ETC.,)
anujkhanna : Some of the sections will require separate attention like GK for SNAP / CMAT / XAT also there are few additional topic present in logical section and in XAT you have to focus on decision making as well.

karthikeyan : WHAT ABT THE GEOMENTRY AND NUMBER SYSTEM WHETHER IT CAN BE LEARNED FROM
rajeshsaraf : These are important areas. A similar qs has been answered. Check the transcript as to how to go about for the same.

mac : I CANNOT APPROACH MOST OF THE QUANT QUESTION OF TIME BOOKLET OF SOME TOPICS LIKE GEOMETRY, SEQ SERIES, NUMBERS, MENSURATION I HAVE TO SEE ANSWER BOOKLET HOW I CAN APPROACH QUESTIONS WITHOUT SEE EXPLANATION?
rajeshsaraf : That's OK. Even if you have to refer to sols booklet, that's alright. Try and ensure you get exposure to vaaaaaast models of qs. That will cut down surprise element in the exam

chandu : THANK YOU VERY MUCH @ANUJKHANNA SIR FOR YOUR TIME. WILL TRY TO FOLLOW THAT AND TRACK MY PROGRESS
anujkhanna : your welcome

shivanand : HERE'S MY STRATEGY: I FIRST PERUSE THROUGH ALL THE QUESTIONS CATEGORIZING THEM IN EASY, MIDDLE AND DIFFICULT ONES AND PROCEED TO SOLVE FROM EASY ONES. BUT THIS TAKES TIME. IS THIS APPROACH CORRECT?
vjs : For easy ones you need not to spend much time.this is the time to follow the plan.

karthikeyan : SIR WHETHER TIME MATERIAL IS ENOUGH FOR PURE MATHS SUBJECT LIKE NUMBER SYSTEM OR TRIGNOMENTRY OR I SHOULD LOOK FOR ANY VIDEOS STILL I AM NOT TAUGHT IN CLASS AND I AM NOT AWARE OF THE BASICS
vjs : will be discussed.

bijarniya : SIR IM TALKING ABOUT SIBM.........IS THERE DEFENCE QUOTA IN IT....AND WHAT IS THE CUT OFF
anujkhanna : as far as i remember there is no defence quota in SIBM

d2 : IN DI, I FIND IT HARD TO ATTEMPT MORE THAN 2 SETS, BUT I'VE REALISED THAT ONLY BY ATTEMPTING AT LEAST 3 SETS CAN A PERSON GET A GOOD PERCENTILE. ARE THERE ANY TRICKS TO IMPROVE SPEED AS WELL AS ACCURACY?
vjs : Revise the concepts of speed maths and PPL which will help you to go quick and accurate.

karthikeyan : SIR WHETHER I CAN LEARN GEOMENTRY AND NUMBER FROM THE TIME BOOK ORTHEWISE I SHOULD GO FOR VIDEOS STILL I AM NOT AWARE OF BASICS AND I AM NOT TAUGHT IN CLASS
rajeshsaraf : TIME study material is adequate. If the basics are hurting you, you can refer to Class 9th, 10 CBSE books to start with (as a supplement).

bijarniya : THANKU YOU SIR
anujkhanna : your welcome

akshaynakra : I MISSED A CLASS OF WORK/TIME. I FACE PROBLEMS IN IT. FROM WHERE SHOULD I LEARN IT?
rajeshsaraf : You can always attend a back up session for the same. Contact your local TIME office/centre.

anmol : SIR I AM FINDING DIFFICULTY IN NUMBER SYSTEM ESPECIALLY IN REMAINDER THEORM AND FINDING LAST TWO DIGITS. WHAT TO DO
abhishek : Approach the FM and get your doubts clarified. Ensure you put in the efforts before you approach the FM.

bijarniya : SIR IS THE THE MATERIAL AVAILABLE SUFFICENT FOR SNAP EXAM
anujkhanna : yes it will be more than sufficient apart from that read newspaper daily and use manorama year book for GK prepration

anks : ASSUMING I HAVE LEARNED ALL THE CONCEPTS OF DI AND LR ONCE. WHAT SHOULD I DO TO IMPROVE DI/LR SCORE?
abhishek : LR and DI, these two areas require lot of practice. So, if you are done with the concepts, then start practicing.

mbaaspirant : SIR FOR DI, IS ARUN SHARMA + TIME SECTIONAL TESTS + CL TEST GYM SUFFICIENT OR DO I NEED TO DO ANYTHING ELSE ALSO?
rajeshsaraf : :) And after all these, what else you want to do :)

dlcc6wa29 : SIR, HOW MUCH TYPICAL IS MY SCENARIO TO GET INTO THE TOP B SCHOOLS(IIM A,B,C)? I AM A GEN ENGG AND MALE WITH 64,85,89.6 AS MY GRAD, TWELFTH AND TENTH PERCENTAGES RESPECTIVELY. HOW MUCH DO I NEED TO SCORE TO GET A CALL FROM THESE INSTITUTES. KINDLY SHED SOME LIGHT.
rajeshsaraf : You have to score 99+ percentile (clearing sectionals)

d2 : FOR WHAT KIND OF MATHEMATICAL OPERATIONS SHOULD WE RELY ON THE ON-SCREEN CALCULATOR AND WHEN SHOULD WE NOT RELY ON THE CALCULATOR?
rajeshsaraf : if there is a calculation like 38% of 496, you should be in a position to get the answer in your head. Calculators are deceptive. These are not key board based. These are mouse based, which are not user friendly. However, in extreme types of calculations, where accuracy is the demand, you can rely on the same. But that should be rare

mbaaspirant : I HAVE 12 HOURS DAILY AND QA IS MY STRONG AREA. WHAT TIME SHOULD I DISTRIBUTE AMONG VA, RC, LR, DI, QA?
raman : Focus on tests and performance in your strong area (QA in your case!) take more tests about 2 hours on QA/ REst of the time you spend judiciously on other areas. You may not be able to do VA continuously. Do LR-DI and VA intermittenetly.

mac : HOW TO IMPROVE GEOMETRY I AM UNABLE TO FIGURE OUT THE GEO QUESTIONS LIKE WHICH EXACT THEORAM WILL BE USED HERE HOW TO BE FAMILIAR WITH ALL THEORAMS THAT JST AFTER WATCHING QUESTION IT AUTOMATICALLY STRIKE IN MIND
anujkhanna : use a reverse approach open your solution booklet before opening your question booklet. Then concentrate on one theorem ex- apollonius theorem and see how many questions are designed on that so that you can understand the application along with concepts of this theorem.

swetha : @ANKUJKHANNA WHEN CAN I START CONCETRATING ON THESE EXTRAS??? HOW MUCH TIME WIL IT REQUIRE??? ALSO WHEN WILL THESE EXAMS BE CONDUCTED??? POST CAT???
anujkhanna : you can concentrate on them simultaneously like reading newspaper will help you in gk / RC and interview as well. It will hardly require 1 hour per day. some exams like snap and xat is conducted post cat

jenil : HELLO. AIMCAT 1720 WAS MY FIRST TEST IN THE PREPARATION FOR CAT. THE ANALYSIS PROVIDED BY TIME SUGGESTED THAT JUDICIOUS SELECTION OF QUESTIONS IS IMPORTANT. HOW CAN WE SELECT THE RIGHT QUESTIONS WHICH SHOULD BE ATTEMPTED FIRST? IT MIGHT BE EASY TO REJECT QUESTIONS IN QUANT, BUT WE NEED TO SPEND TIME AND SOLVE IN CASE OF VA-RC/DI-LR WHICH ALSO HAVE GROUP QUESTIONS.
srinivasbelvi : Since it is your first experience with mock CAT, I suggest you not to read too much into it. Infact do not worry about the first 3 AIMCATs that you take. Connect with your mentor after 3 AIMCATs to understand further.

nishant : I DONT THINK I WILL BE ABLE TO CRACK CAT WITH A 99.5% THIS NOVEMBER. SHOULD I GO FOR PREPARATION FOR NEXT 1 YEAR.
anujkhanna : You still have lot of time so do not loose your heart you can do well have positive thoughts and do a lot of practice. Just go with relaxed and apart from CAT concentrate on other exams as well.

shubham : FOR MATHS, IS ARIHANT PUBLICATION BOOK, PLUS TIME MATERIAL ENOUGH?
anujkhanna : it will be enough

nishant : ASSUME I HAVE PRACTICED ALL TYPES OF QUESTIONS..... WILL I BE ABLE TO SAY THAT I CAN CRACK CAT XAM EASILY
raman : All types of questions ??!!

d2 : SINCE MOST OF US WILL BE WRITING OTHER EXAMS APART FROM CAT, SHOULD WE SEPARATELY PREPARE FOR THAT AS WELL OR IS IT OKAY TO CONCENTRATE ON ONLY CAT FOR NOW AND PREPARE FOR OTHER EXAMS A WEEK OR SO BEFORE?
srinivasbelvi : Similar skill areas are tested across all management entrance tests. However a few entrance tests might have a few addition skill areas like decision making, essay writing, general awareness etc. Hence when you prepare for CAT, by & large you'd have prepared for other exam too.

anks : HOW MUCH SHOULD I DEVOTE DAILY/WEEKLY NOW ON FOR LR/DI
vjs : There are nothing like number of hours. Using the AIMCAT analysis, you must analyse your strengths and weaknesses and plan your preparation accordingly, and You need to keep preparing till you are confident on the topic, and then keep revising regularly.

swetha : IS IT ALRIGHT IF I DONT USE ANY OTHER MATERIAL FOR CAT OTHER THAN TIME'S BECAUSE I HEAR EVERYONE USING ARUL SHARMA AND THELIKE
abhishek : Yes. It is alright. Our material will be more than sufficient.

ram : HELLO SIR, JBIMS THIS YEAR OR ABC NEXT YEAR?
rajeshsaraf : Tricky question. It depends on how have been your AIMCAT scores. Further, other things like risk taking ability, are you working and most importantly, your own preference for the same.

mohitsarda : SAR MY BASE OF MATHS IS VERY WEAK SO HOW TO ROBUST MY BASE FAST
rajeshsaraf : Quants is 50% speed maths and 50% concepts. You need to work on speed maths -addition, subtraction, multiplication, % calculations etc. Further get exposure to different models of qs related to chapters like Numbers, Geometry, trigonometry etc

samreen : SIR IAM VERY POOR AT QUANT AS I HAVE LEFT IT AFTER MY TENTH SCORED ONLY 4MARKS IN AIMCAT1720.HOW TO OVERCOME WITH THIS PROBLEM.PLEASE SUGGEST
vjs : Majority of topics are to the level of tenth std.Even the topics of +2 level are very simple. most of the questions will test the logic along with calculations.

nilesh : ANY SUGGESTION TO STRONG NUMBERS, OTHER THAN TIME STUDY MATERIAL?
asim : Apart from BSM, make sure you also work with the online sectional tests, SAMCATs and the AIMCATs.

mbamaster : HI. DO THE TIME VIDEOS FEATURE THE SPEED MATHS? THIS, I FEEL I PARTICULARLY IMPORTANT FOR MY DEVELOPMENT.
rajeshsaraf : Yes !! They do !!

blacky : SIR WHAT IIMS CAN I GET INTO WITH 98 PERCENTILE...ACADEMICS ARE GOOD
asim : You can surely expect multiple IIM Calls, provided you cross the sectional cutoffs also.

ram : @RAJESH SIR, MY CAT 15 SCORES WERE 95, I HAVE ONE YEAR WORK EX AND CURRENTLY NO JOB.
rajeshsaraf : I am assuming that you have got admission in JBIMS. But the question is "what if for some reasons, ABC does not happen. Do you have back up plan. It is about self -introspection.

nishant : WELL ONE OF MY SISTERS TOLD TO PRACTICE THE +2 RD SHARMA BOOK AND ALSO READ THE BOOK FROM RENIN MARTIN. IS THAT METHOD RIGHT?
srinivasbelvi : You can do as much as you could provided you are blessed with enough time. However nothing at the expense of completing TIME material first.

bittu : WHAT ADDITIONAL PRACTICE IS REQUIRED TO PREPARE FOR XAT , IIFT & MH-CET EXAMS ALONG WITH CAT PREPARATION NOW .
anujkhanna : GK / question based on decision making and essay writing.

shubham : IF IT TAKES A LOT OF TIME IN CRACKING A QUESTION WHILE SOLVING IT FROM BOOKLETS, SHOULD I CHECK THE SOLUTION THEN AND THERE, OR WAIT AND TRY TO SOLVE IT MYSELF FIRST EVEN IF IT TAKES 15 20 MINUTES ?
srinivasbelvi : Don't refer to the solution unless you give a few attempts at it be it 15 minutes or even more.

nilesh : MY ACCURACY IN NON-MCQ QUANT/DI/LR QUESTION IS VERY BAD, HOW TO IMPOROVE ?
vjs : 1. Knowing Basics or concepts is the first step, then practise. 2.Its ultimately skills that is most important key to the competitive exams. 3. start form basic study material and refresh the concepts then work on CRTs,QAREs,QATs..and will gain lot of confidence .QUICK and ACCURACY is the mantra.

kush : SIR IN DI OF, I AM ONLY SCORING 9 TO 10 MARKS. AND ALL OF IT IN DI. I AM NOT ABLE TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS IN LR IN THE 1 HOUR DESPITE PRACTICEOF . HOW DO I INCREASE MY SPEED. AND ALSO DO LR QUESTIONS FAST AND CORRECTLY
rajeshsaraf : You will find at least 1 set easy in LR. Try and spot that easy one. All LR sets are not necessarily easy. But look for that easy one lurking around some corner. That will be your saviour

shubham : THOUGH I KNOW BASICS OF NUMBERS AND GEOMETRY, YET I FIND IT VERY DIFFICULT TO CRACK THE QUESTIONS. WHAT CAN I DO
rajeshsaraf : The qs are usually from the combo of multiple integrated topics/concepts. While understanding of a concept is important, you need to solve a large number of qs so that you learn the application in wide range of scenarios

mohitsarda : SAR IS THERE ANY GOOD BOOK AVAILABLE TO MAKE GOOD BASE FOR QUANT
raman : TIME material and handouts. Besides attending classes regularly. If required attend more classes in the same topic.

d2 : WHAT TYPE OF QUESTIONS IN VA, RC, QA, DI AND LR SHOULD WE AVOID ATTEMPTING AND WASTING OUR TIME?
rajeshsaraf : This will vary from individual to individual. A particular candidate may have a huge likingness towards Geometry but others may just have a hatred for the same. SO, you need to understand your own taste for the same and accordingly build a suitable strategy

mbamaster : THANKS. I'LL BUY THE VIDEOS THEN. PLEASE ALSO TELL ME WHETHER THESE VIDEOS TEACH US THE SHORTCUTS FOR QUANT. FOR EXAMPLE: THE SHORTCUT FOR THE 3 DISTANCES IN THE TSD TOPIC.
rajeshsaraf : The videos will give you exposure to the variety of concepts under one single roof. ALl the best

sharad : SIR IN DI IS IT NECESSARY TO PRACTICE SPEED ENHANCEMENT BOOKLET AS VIRTUAL CALC IS QUIET TOUGH TO HANDLE
rajeshsaraf : Of course Yes !! Speed is the key. Doing calculations and doing it faster is so important. Again, as you mentioned, online screen calculator is indeed tough as they are mouse based and not key board based.

mohitsarda : HOW MUCH QUESTION WE HAVE TO ATTEND TO GET 85%ILE + IN QA AND LR/DI
abhishek : Around 50-60 percent questions with a decent accuracy.

anmol : SIR HOW MUCH ARE MY CHANCES OF GETTING INTO ABC. I HAVE CLASS 10 CGPA 10, CLASS 12 94.4 AND GADUATION 9.47 CGPA
srinivasbelvi : Excellent acads... Try & get a good CAT score.

vicky : HI ALL. WHAT SHOULD BE MY STRATEGY FROM NOW ON FOR THE NEXT FEW MONTHS OF PREPARATION?
anujkhanna : By now you should be done with learning the concepts by focusing on the most basic and moderate level questions from study material. If you have not done so then in month of july august try to finish it. Taking one mock test per week should suffice. Needless to say, a proper and detailed post-mock analysis is a must. After that you should step on the gas and move to two mock tests per week. Again, it goes without saying that proper analysis of both the mocks within the same week is mandatory. At this stage, solving the previous years’—CAT 1990-2008—papers will be really beneficial.

ram : @RAJESH SIR, IS THERE A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE BETWEEN JBIMS AND ABC? IS IT WORTH RISKING IT ANOTHER YEAR?
rajeshsaraf : Again, it boils down to individual preferences. I know of candidates for whom even ABC doesn't really matter as they are looking for nothing less than Stanford/Harvard etc. It's relative. My only advice is you need to have a fool proof back up plan (in either kind of situation)

shubhra : SIR I HAVE PRACTISED ALL THE QUESTIONS IN DI BOOKS AS WELLAS HANDOUTS.STILL I AM GETTING ONLY 44 AS NET SCORE IN AIMCAT 20.WHAT SHOULD I DO TO IMPROVE MY SCORE ?
srinivasbelvi : Knowing / understanding concepts is one thing & applying what you know is the other thing. Focus on the second part.

nishant : HOW MUCH DO I NEED TO PAY FOR WATCHING TIME LECTURE VIDEOS PROVIDED I AM A TIME STUDENT
rajeshsaraf : For issues concerning payment, You are advised to contact info@time4education.com

samreen : SIR,HOW CAN WE ATTEND MORE CLASSES ON THE SAME TOPIC
srinivasbelvi : Buy video lectures available on your SHP & watch it repeatedly.

mohitsarda : SAR WHAT TOPIC ARE MOST IMPORTANT IN QA
vjs : There is no correct answer to that.Recognise areas you are good at and areas you feel are difficult for you. Prepare a study plan and execute it. Also,go with the classes to cover certain topics.

mac : AFTER SOLVING HANDOUT QUESTIONS DONE IN CLASS I MOVED TO CONCEPT REVIEW QUESTIONS TILL THAT I CAN APPROACH BUT WHEN I MOVED TO EXERCISE AFTER IT I CANNOT APPROACH MOST OF THE QUESTION IN SOME TOPICS LIKE AMA SICI PPL AFTER CONCEPT REVIEW QSTN I DO ARUN SHARMA LEVEL1 QUESTIONS THEN I MOVED TO TIME MATERIAL EXERCISE AFTER IT I M ABLE TO APPROACH MOST QUESTIONS SHOULD I CONTINUE THIS TREND OR ANY OTHER SHOULD I ADOPT?
rajeshsaraf : EVen if you have solved about 50% of the qs in ex (a) on your won, that's a terrific attempt. For the remaining 50% qs in ex (a), you can always come back to that chapter later on.

yash : SIR ISTARTED WORKING ON CONCEPTS FIRST ....SHOULD I COMPLETE ALL TOPICS FIRST OR SHOULD I START MEMORIZING FORMULATIONS? TOGETHERLY?
srinivasbelvi : Taking one look at all concepts is preferred approach.

yash : SIR ISTARTED WORKING ON CONCEPTS FIRST ....SHOULD I COMPLETE ALL TOPICS FIRST OR SHOULD I START MEMORIZING FORMULATIONS? TOGETHERLY?
rajeshsaraf : Most of these things have to done on a parallel basis.

yash : SIR ISTARTED WORKING ON CONCEPTS FIRST ....SHOULD I COMPLETE ALL TOPICS FIRST OR SHOULD I START MEMORIZING FORMULATIONS? TOGETHERLY?
srinivasbelvi : Taking one look at all concepts is preferred approach.

shubham : WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO ANALYSE AIMCAT SCORE
anujkhanna : Analyse your AIMCAT – the best way to do it is to see which question have you marked correct and how much time you have taken and what was the average time taken by others if you are taking more time try to reduce steps. Secondly which questions have you marked wrong how many people attempted that and how many solved that accurately ex – if 60% people solved it with 20-30% accuracy then it must be a trick question, why to attempt such question. Third in the question you have left column if there are easy or medium difficulty based question try to convert them.

yash : SIR SHLD I START GIVING SECTIONAL TEST ...BUT M STILL NOT DONE WITH MY QUANT CONCEPTS?
rajeshsaraf : You can take up both parallely. Online tests will give you exposure to online environment while Quants SM will give you exposure to concepts.

yash : SIR SHLD I START GIVING SECTIONAL TEST ...BUT M STILL NOT DONE WITH MY QUANT CONCEPTS?
abhishek : You can take the test for the areas you have completed the basics.

sharad : ON SHP VIDEOS WILL BE AVILABLE TILL END AND WE CAN ALSO WATCH IT AGAIN AGAIN OR NOT
rajeshsaraf : You can watch the same multiple times

ngcb6a035 : SIR FOR SPEED IN QUANT N DI .. WHAT SHOULD BE DONE ON DAILY BASIS...
rajeshsaraf : speed maths -addition, subtraction, multiplication, squares, comparison of fractions, % calculations on a regular basis. Spend about 10 minutes on a daily basis.

bablu : HOW MANY FOUR DUGUT NUMBERS CAN BE PREPARED FROM NUMBERS 3,4,5,6,7
rajeshsaraf : 5P4

mac : I AM A CLASSROOM STUDENT HOW CAN I BOOK A SLOT OF DOUBT CLEARING SESSION
abhishek : Contact your center for Doubt session.

dlcc6wa29 : SIR, MY QUESTIONS ARE STILL UNANSWERED. I HAVE POSTED THEM ABOUT HALF AN HOUR AGO AND THERE IS NO RESPONSE. KINDLY ANSWER.
rajeshsaraf : Answered

anks : WHAT ACCURACY(RIGHT VS WRONG) ONE SHOULD TARGET WHILE GIVING AIMCAT
srinivasbelvi : Anything in excess of 80% in QA & LRDI... in excess of 70% in VA.

yash : M JUST STARTING QUANT FROM BASIC WHT SHLD BE DAILY WORK HOURS I SHLD BE GIVING TO QUANT
rajeshsaraf : Try and enjoy that. Quantum of time spent on the same, will automatically be taken care of. Also, pay attention to the quantum of learning you derive from the time you spent.
