FAQs on GATE
1) Where can I get my GATE Admit Card?
Admit card can only be downloaded from the GOAPS website from 17th December
2014. Admit Cards will NOT be sent by post. Bring the Admit Card at the test
center along with at least one original (not photocopied/scanned copy) and valid
(not expired) photo identification, whose details have been entered while
filling the application. ONLY one of the following photo identifications is
permitted: Driving license, Passport, PAN Card, Voter ID, Aadhaar UID, College
ID, Employee Identification Card, or a Notarized Affidavit with Photo,
Signature, Date of Birth and Residential Address. Photocopies of the
identification document are not acceptable. Candidates will not be permitted to
take the exam if the original and valid photo identification is not presented.
2) I am currently studying 3rd year of engineering. Am I eligible for writing GATE?
According to GATE 2015 notification, pre-final students are not eligible to
write GATE. Only students in the final year of their degree can take GATE.
3) I am currently in my 4th year of engineering. What should I submit as a proof that I am in my final year?
Candidates who mention that they are yet to complete their course, have to obtain before hand a certificate from the Principal of their institution and upload the same during the online submission of the application.
4) When and where can I get GATE Results?
GATE 2015 results will be announced on March 12, 2015 at 5pm on the Online Application Website
5) Is there any change in validity of GATE Score?
GATE score is valid for three years from the date of declaration of results.
6) What is the importance of Qualifying Marks?
After declaration of results, GATE Scorecards can be downloaded by only those candidates whose marks are greater than or equal to the qualifying mark for their respective categories. The qualifying marks are decided by the GATE 2015 Committee.
GATE qualification is essential for obtaining the financial support of MHRD Scholarship/Assistantship for admission into
(a) Master’s programs and direct Doctoral programs in Engineering/Technology/Architecture
(b) Doctoral programs in relevant branches of Science in Institutes supported by the MHRD or other Government agencies.
Infact, there are some college/institutes which require GATE qualification for admission without MHRD Scholarship/Assistantship.
GATE Qualification is also a mandatory requirement to apply for various fellowships awarded by many Government organizations.
