Structure of our classes
To cater effectively to the vocabulary levels of GRE® test we have
several classes exclusively dedicated to building the vocabulary of our
students. To practise and test the skills acquired in the classes, the
vocabulary sessions have additional mini-tests called VCTs. These are
administered from the second class onwards. There is a mid-course test and a
full-fledged, vocabulary-skills test covering antonyms, analogies and sentence
completion.
Besides this, there are classes dedicated to strategies involved in sentence
completion, analogies, antonyms and reading comprehension. Since analytical
writing has become a crucial component in the admission process, many classes
focus on this section with some classes focussing on basic writing skills,
where you will write essays on simpler topics. Besides this, sentence
construction and grammar-related issues are dealt with in dedicated classes.
These classes will help you prepare yourself to face the rigours of the
analytical writing section.
The classes for quantitative ability revise all the concepts of arithmetic,
algebra, geometry, data interpretation, etc. For students from the non-maths
streams there are additional special classes to build-up the basic concepts.
Most of the college admission committees ask for a write-up from all candidates
seeking admission called the "Statement Of Purpose (SOP)". One full
class is devoted to this important exercise of how to write an SOP.
P.S. Each of our classes for the GRE® test are held for a
duration of two hours.
Material
For further honing your skills, 10 additional full-fledged practice sets are
given as part of a "take-home" package. Four booklets and a pack of vocabulary
cards also form part of the study material. One book, containing original
T.I.M.E. material, explains concepts that are required for the
Quantitative Ability section and also carries practice exercises that will
sharpen the skills required for the Quantitative Section of the GRE®.
Another book supplements your preparation on vocabulary front. There is also a
separate book that an overview of the Analytical Writing Section and includes a
pool of topics used by ETS. In addition to all of these, there is also a
booklet that contains ten sample essays each of the issue and argument topics.
These twenty essays give you an idea of how the two types of GRE® analytical
writing essays can be written.
Preparation
We believe that a student from a branch of Science and Engineering has adequate
grip over maths and can tackle the section on quantitative ability with a fair
degree of comfort. This is because the concepts tested are usually of High
School level only. With some grounding on basic maths, even students from
non-maths background can do well. However, since GRE® test is a
'verbal-intensive' examination we feel that the verbal part of the test will
take about 3 to 6 months of active preparation. Besides this, intensive
preparation is required to effectively tackle the analytical writing section.
